About this villa rental
Il Rombo is a welcoming farmhouse, recently renovated and equipped with all the modern comforts, situated in a residential area close to the historic city of Lucca in central Italy’s Tuscany region.
The five-bedroom villa is part of a large estate, offering plenty of space to unwind without compromising privacy. The house has been wonderfully restored to retain a great sense of history, with all of the quintessential elements here, from beamed ceilings to terracotta tiles and original stonework. Guests can relax in the living room, which stays cool thanks to its thick stone walls. Home cooks will be in their element in the country-house kitchen, which is fantastic for rustling up an Italian feast for the whole group. In addition, all five bedrooms are traditionally decorated in a Tuscan style with oak wood furniture and iron-wrought bed frames alongside air-conditioning and en-suite bathrooms to meet all your needs.
Enjoy your days off by relaxing in the neatly manicured gardens with its large pool with enough sun beds for the entire family, or exercise in the shared tennis court framed by cypress trees. Outdoor dining in the pergola makes the most of the beautiful views over olive groves and dipping hills underneath a twinkling night sky.
You can find many charming Tuscan villages with various shops and restaurants a short drive away. When looking for somewhere more lively, Lucca is only 20 minutes away by car and is full of attractions, such as the city walls that can be explored by foot or bike.
With its famous leaning tower, Pisa is only a 40-minute drive from the property when you want to switch up the scenery or need a spontaneous day trip idea.
You are well placed to head into the rolling Tuscan hills, where you can enjoy hiking trails through ancient woodlands, picnic in the pungent botanical gardens of Renaissance villas or sample wines at wonderful vineyards. There are plenty of beaches and natural wonders to explore here if you’re a keen outdoor lover, such as Parco Regionale Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli nature park and Cascata dell'Infernaccio with stunning waterfalls.
Architecture and art lovers shouldn’t miss Florence, boasting a wealth of centuries-old buildings, Renaissance landmarks, fascinating galleries and museums, and a bustling dining scene.

Location:
Il Rombo enjoys an ideal location, allowing guests to explore Tuscany comfortably.
Put on your walking shoes to discover the relatively unspoiled landscape dotted with ancient farmhouses and idyllic villages, or visit nearby landmarks such as the Villa Torrigiani – a Palatial 1500s villa with an ornate, coloured facade and beautifully landscaped gardens.
Tuscany is famous worldwide for its gastronomy, so you’ll be pleased to find an array of traditional Italian restaurants nearby – think everything from delicious gnocchi to wood-fired pizza and a selection of cured meats. A typical market selling fresh fish, meat and vegetables is a 10-minute drive away, as is the closest supermarket.
Further south, you can reach Livorno, known for its busy port with boats and daily ferries to islands such as Sardinia, Corsica and Sicily. Locals tend to congregate at the central Terrazza Mascagni promenade right next to the water – and visitors are encouraged to do the same before exploring the Venezia Nuova – a local neighbourhood with a Venetian quarter – set to become a source of many of your holiday photographs.
The closest city Lucca is a comfortable 20-minute drive away. Its historic centre, with an array of piazzas, palazzos, Romanesque churches and fortifications, has long attracted visitors and opera enthusiasts. It used to be the home of the famous Italian opera composer Puccini. Notable places to visit include the Fortezza Vecchia – an imposing mediaeval fort overlooking the Medici port with tower ruins and Fortezza Nuova and a fort set in the water which is just a short walk to the Piazza della Repubblica square featuring admirable statues. You can also visit Puccini’s former residence and walk around its romantic gardens.
Outdoor enthusiasts have plenty of options to get lost in nature, with the Oasi LIPU Massaciuccoli nature reserve being a short drive away. Situated next to a lake, it’s perfect for walking, watching birds from specially built cabins or renting a kayak to cruise along the river. The nearby Parco Regionale Migliarino, San Rossore, and Massaciuccoli are also excellent spots for picturesque walks and take you through forested walking trails to a wild beach.
There are many gorgeous beaches along the Tuscan Coast. Notably, Spiaggia della Lecciona offers scenic views and a tranquil atmosphere, while the long sandy strip running along the coast next to Calambrone is home to many beach clubs, restaurants and sun bed rentals.
