I had booked one of the single rooms, which turned out to be so small that there wasn't room to accommodate a chair, so the only place to sit was on the bed. It was also very noisy, with the music from the foyer clearly audible. Thankfully, the extremely obliging staff were able to move me to a larger one. This was at the furthest end of the building, up two flights of stairs (lift out of order) but had plenty of space. Unfortunately, in this room there was a constant low level noise coming from the heating system, and despite double glazing, road noise too.
Everything looked a little dilapidated, but overall it was a comfortable stay and convenient for where I needed to be. I didn't eat there.

As we drove into the property, it was immediately evident that this property is very tired and a shell of its former self. If you remember the Fawlty Towers hotel, then you are nearly there.
Our disappointment continued when we were told that the spa was unexpectedly closed, as we had checked in early and had planned to leave late on departure in order to take advantage of the spa.
Reception simply told us to contact the secretary, who after a couple of mail exchanges, offered us a bottle of wine as apologies - 5 days after we had left.
We skipped breakfast as it looked overpriced and poor quality.
The common areas were ok and clean, obviously some money has been invested, but the myriad of carpets and cold bar did make this feel very uncomfortable.
One positive is that the bedroom and bed were decent sizes, although the shower looked like it had its best days in the 80s.
One to miss next time we are in the area, I am afraid.

Absolutely fantastic
Great service
Incredibly friendly and helpful staff
Great breakfast

A spacious, comfortable, and clean room. We enjoyed a well presented breakfast with a good choice of hot and cold food. The spar was small but had a pleasant pool and sauna, unfortunately the steam room wasn't working when we were there. We consider the hotel good value for money at around £100 per night for B&B.

Staff was very friendly. Booked the stay for my partner for her birthday as it had spa facilities, which she likes to use. However, the hot tub wasn't working and the steam room was on and off. It's not great to book a hotel for it's spa facilities if half of them are not working, especially if this was a birthday stay. However, after mentioning this to the staff, we were offered a free drink.
Overall we enjoyed the stay and the location of the house. The such as the bathroom felt a bit outdated, but we did love the room we stayed in facing the garden.

lovely location nice place to stay and quiet

Jacuzzi was out of order.
Suite decor was tired and mismatched. Quality of finish was poor, like the tradesman who did it had never done it before. Carpet was fraying, bedside light wasn't plugged in, had to move the bed which the cleaner obviously hadn't done for some time. Disappointing.

Great overnight stay at a lovely spa hotel.
It is an old building but full of character, great customer service (friendly staff and happy to assist however they could).
Dinner was great, menu isn’t the biggest but some good choices and excellent quality!

The staff on reception were so lovely, my baby was sick in the night, and the young lady on night shift at reception was so helpful and accommodating.
A very kind lady at breakfast helped the children with some snacks for their trip to Peppa Pig World and she was so helpful and pleasant. Would definitely return.

Pool and spa area is beautiful, feel like you're in the middle of a forest. The room on the other hand was quite lacking, dirty cups and window covered in dead bugs. It felt like no one had been in that room for over a year. The irony of the review slip being coffee stained was quite funny.
The staff through the hotel were extremely accomodating and pleasant.
Lovely place just need a bit better attention to detail.

Arrived at 2.50pm. At reception was informed that check-in was 3.00pm. Bit pedantic as only ten minutes early. Not very welcoming .

This hotel was a strange mix. It may be mid refurbishment but a long way from complete. All of the light fittings looked to be new along with the chandeliers. Carpets in main areas very bright and again seemed new. But, the rooms we had (Executive) although large were very dated. The TV was angled so it didn’t face the bed. Very few sockets and not next to the bed. Very thoughtfully a n extension had been left near the mirror - handy for the hairdryer. The rooms were very hot although radiators were off.
We had Dinner and breakfast. Dinner was plentiful if you like chips, but the chicken not quite so well portioned. Breakfast very poor. Definitely budget ingredients and a bizarre toaster.
All of the staff were polite and well trained. A credit to the hotel.

Toilet seat broken needed changing; windows cracked and un-openable; terrestrial television channels very restricted; not 4 star as advertised,

Lovely big rooms and a great breakfast

Friendly polite staff. They didn’t advertise the pool though.
It’s spotless throughout with decent room size and bedding.
Decor very dated in style, let the nice building down.

I loved my stay here, it was only for a night and was a business trip but I'd stay there again without hesitation. My room was huge, clean and no it's not modern, which is what i loved. The bedroom had all the amenities i needed and the bed, oh my, it was so comfortable. Food in the restaurant was delicious. I can only say good things about the whole place. If you want modern it's not for you. If you like character and grand, it's for you. I'll definitely be returning.

Check in was a little delayed, but they held my bags and had them transferred to my room later. Otherwise very plewsant stay, shame about the cricket, though that's not the hotels fault.

Great staff, room very dated but clean. My room was at the rear and overlooked poor masonry work on the hotels building.

We enjoyed our recent stay at this hotel. We were greeted with courteous staff who managed to have our room ready even though we arrived a little earlier. The room was comfortable and quiet and beautifully furnished. The staff were very helpful for our entire stay.

The staff were great and very helpful. The hotel itself is, unfortunately looking very tired. It needs a lot of TLC. Used the spa, but disappointed. The Jacuzzi was tepid. The steam room wasn’t working and the sauna was not hot.

The Staff are excellent helpful and friendly
Nick and Alex made our stay
We stayed with two American friends and they even gave us a tour around the hotel with all the history
We will stay again if we come to Southampton

The hotel is not near the port but the staff , and food in the restaurant were good, ordered us transportation and organized other guests to travel together to the cruise lines , if you are traveling to the port I suggest this hotel

Staff were really great. Building currently under updating. The £13 curry literally tasted like a £13 curry if you catch my drift.
Very enjoyable stay! :)

Thoroughly enjoyed staying for 1 night. Lucky to have a Suite which was spacious, well equipped and comfortable. Made use of the pools and spa facilities - great view of the woodland from the pool.
Friendly and very helpful staff.
Will definitely visit and stay again.

We booked an “executive double” which is actually a “standard double “, room was very small and cramped with furniture but no wardrobe or desk or chair. Only hook was on bathroom door, so nowhere to hang clothes. Bed linen was good quality cotton and comfy pillows but mattress very hard. Staff friendly and attentive. Breakfast buffet style and plentiful.

Good for an overnight for work. Hotel is tired and requires modernisation it’s run by teenagers who could do with some guidance.
Room was clean. Food was bland and the main area could do with a thorough vacuum. Overall it’s fine for a business stay.

Overall good
Should be great if it could include breakfast with that price.

our room was clean and had everything we needed. However chaos in the restaurant spoiled the evening completely. Extremely slow service, and who runs out of steak on Grill Night? The young staff tried hard, but they were understaffed and overworked. So many customers were sitting waiting over an hour for food, including us .

Beautiful setting. Still in process of upgrading. Staff were very helpful.

Lovely grounds, super pool, friendly staff. Spoilt by the room being so hot with no air conditioning and windows that only opened three inches as on the hrpund floor.

Very relaxed atmosphere , staff very accommodating and friendly. Excellent amenities in an ideal location. Breakfast was spot on . Will definitely be visiting again.

They were not prepared for guests.
Hotel was old and needed many updates. Lift (elevator) was not working and many, many stairs to lug our luggage to our room. Dining room was not appealing and very limited choices. There was a celebration of young people (prom) so loud music until around 10pm.
Staff seemed eagar to please but hotel was not in good shape.

Very good service and accommodation
