The fully equipped kitchen has a microwave, blender, toaster, coffee maker and washing machine. The living room has a fireplace, radio, CD, TV/VCR and a large selection of movies. Shangri-La is a great place right on the beach. If you want a private place to stay in the Bahamas, this is the place.

Kim, the owner, helped ensure that our stay was delightful. This was our fourth trip to this wonderful house just steps away from a pristine beach, and we certainly plan on returning yet again.

Our trip to Shangri-La exceeded our expectations. From the warm welcome and information from our host Kim, to the quaint perfectly appointed house, and spectacular beach and amazing location right on Bennett’s Harbour , we felt as if we had just landed in paradise! If you like a remote quiet locations where the locals embrace you every step of the way, while swimming in the most pristine waters—this is the rental for you. We feel honored that host Kim shared her family home with us and allowed us to experience the true Cat Island. We can’t wait to book our next trip to Shangri-La.

This has been one of the best experience I have had. I enjoyed the fact that they were well prepared and the host met me at the airport. Down to flash lights on the side of the bed just incase current went off. The rooms were really nice and cozy which made it great for sleeping and working from home.

This place is absolutely incredible! I'm is so helpful and nice. Cleo, or caretaker went above and beyond. The beach is so secluded and breath taking. I can not recommend this place enough!!

The beach was amazing, as it usually is on Cat Island. The location was close to Arthur's Town, which was nice for evening dinners. Of course there are always the bugs, but that's just part of a nice warm climate. I may have lost a pint of blood but it was worth it! The house is great too.

A very nice house with character & charm on a large, private beachfront lot. Comfortable accommodations, gorgeous beach, lovely landscaping. Would have rated it a 5 but the house is showing signs of age, a bit more maintenance is needed, but 5 star potential is there. Overall still nice and definitely recommended.

Me and my wife had a great relaxing week on Cat island.Shangri-la lived up to its great reviews. The stone house and the beach were stunning. Most relaxing vacation ever we spent most of our time on the beach or deck. The weather was perfect.Only downside was lack of grocery stores and restaurants on the island. We will be back hopefully next year.

We were really impressed with the home. I am a builder and love to see a home that is not only well built but great economical design and appointments. A lot of thought and hands on work went into this home and property.
Thanks Kim for continuing the tradition your Mom and Dad began so many years ago.

Spent a week at the Shangri-La with my husband and two young sons.we enjoyed the beach, kayaking up alligator creek, fishing, snorkeling, and swimming. The house is well equiped with everything we needed. Not much privacy because the walls only go up so far between rooms, but we made due & did fine.Ourboys had a blast just playing on the beach and swimming most days. The cabana down by the water was perfect. We had a few fires in the pit at night, which was wonderful. Quite a few businesses were closed during the week, and it was a challenge finding places to eat out. We ended up cooking for ourselves most of the time. All in all a great week! Can’t ever go wrong with the sun, sand and Caribbean!

We very much enjoyed our stay at Shangri-la. The location really can't be beat! To be able to walk out the door with no shoes and straight onto one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen is a real treat. The view from the house is magnificent, with the palms blowing in the breeze, beautiful sunsets and moonrises over the ocean. We were able to cook some good meals in the well-stocked kitchen, and enjoyed the rustic, cute design of the stone cottage. Our favorite thing was getting in the kayaks and paddling down the nearby creek, with turtles and rays scooting around under our boats. Magical! We would love to return to this peaceful haven.

I'll make this short and sweet. The house is awesome and has everything you could want for a relaxing self-sufficient vacation. Definitely rent the car. Travel is easy and it gives you so much freedom. The island itself is great. The people are even better. The friendliest place we've ever been. There is plenty to do if you want, or do nothing at all. Groceries are easy to get and plentiful. There are a few close restaurants and Yardie's (highly recommended) is an easy walk. Bring lots of bug spray and tanning lotion. It's not a bad idea to pack some frozen meat in a thermal tote with some ice packs. It was so nice to cook on the grill and enjoy a nice meal on the patio. We hesitated to give such high marks to this place because we want to keep it all to ourselves! We will definitely be back!

My wife and I stayed at Shangri-La on 6/20/17 for a week. Booking was simple. Our caretaker met us at the tiny airport upon our arrival on a quick and smooth flight from Nassau. The house would be described as a rustic resort! It was very clean and had everything we needed. There is a grill, a hammock, 2 kayaks and a small cooler. There is no AC but it was actually cool at night except for the last two where it was warm but not uncomfortable. The beach was calm, deserted and amazing! Some boats came in the last few days and anchored out in front of the house. We joked that they were invading our private beach but all was fine. We had a couple of great bon fires under amazing stars. The car that's available with the rental had no problems except for a dead battery on a couple of trips down the island but we discovered the battery cable was just a little loose. No big deal. The Pink Chicken and fishing with Reynold were some of the hi lights. Hard to beat the amazing beaches, peacefulness and tranquility on Cat Island but I think the best feature are the people! The nicest I've ever met anywhere! Even the few tourists we met were a cut above. It's like we all realized we discovered a little known secret and were bonded by it. We did a lot of exploring and still didn't see everything. Definitely liked our beach the best! We've been all over the Bahamas, Virgin Islands (US and British) and many other Caribbean islands. Cat Island is now among the top. We will definitely be back. And soon!

We loved this place. It was as advertised and we were not disappointed. It was private and the right size house. Beach out back was clean with good sand. Not rocky. Really a nice beach. We used the kayaks extensively. I took the kayak up a ways to the left and found several small isolated beaches that were very nice. There are floaties in the small shed. Fun to float around on the beach. Nice private cabana at the beach too.
The car was an adventure, but it didn't leave us stranded. There are some tricks to it so have the caretaker show you how to use the wipers. Cat island was just what we were looking for. If we come back to Cat we will certainly consider this house again.

I have hesitated writing a review because i don't want this place over run with people. The house was better than expected, it has everything one needs. It is set back from the beach just far enough for privacy but it is an easy walk to the beach. The deck is very large and only has a few steps to the sand. The owners are great and the caretaker Trevor will come if you need something but will never bother you. The people of Cat Island are the most engaging and kind people i have met since growing up on a farm in Iowa. They will help you find what you need, and in the 2 weeks we were on Cat no one asked us to buy anything or heckled us like other islands. I have been to 26 islands in the Carribean and the beach rates at the top. You can be on the beach all day and never see another person. Places like Shangri-la are rare in these times. This was the most relaxed and at ease i have been for years. If you come to Cat you need to understand it does not have the big night life casinos and 4 star hotels, it will rejvenate your soul if you just slow down and take it all in. Also it does have the basic supplies, but it is a good idea to bring some meat and a few supplies yourself. When you go exploring you will want to get back to Shangri-La because it is the best spot. Five of us stayed in the house the first week with no problem. If you come looking for treasure you will find it in the people of Cat Island!

We have visited beaches from Australia to the Seychelles and many points in between, but Shangri-La on Cat Island remains our absolute favorite beach vacation in the world. Once again, we had this beautiful and pristine beach to ourselves for our entire two week stay. We have stayed at Shangri-La at least sixteen times over the past sixteen years, and we've been the only two people on the beach on all but two of our visits. To say we love this place is an understatement. The house is always very clean, in perfect condition and is extremely comfortable. The people on Cat Island are the most friendly, helpful and happy people we have ever met. This is a true escape from the world, and when you must leave the island, you will be very relaxed and rejuvenated. (Although we're also very sad because we don't want to leave!) Ginny and Richie are such wonderful people to deal with, and we cannot recommend this very special place highly enough.
