About this villa rental
A fully equipped villa which is quiet and relaxing . The rear bedroom has a single bed and a small double, the front bedroom has a double bed. There is space for a cot as well. A new kitchen blends in with the 18'' thick stone walls and original features such as a mosaic marble sink outside - great for prepping salads in the sunshine. A vine-draped pergola shades the dining patio and a high stone wall makes 'Phoebe' a private little haven. There's a gated parking area which doubles as a secure play area. The beach is close, so it's great to go for several dips a day - take a stroll in the morning, past the bakery (the smell of fresh bread is irresistible); grab a pastry, and as your route is straight down the historic main street between the end of our little lane and the castle, you can also collect a coffee at Filio's and have breakfast on the beach with the clear waters of the Ionian Sea lapping at your toes.

I greatly enjoyed my stay and left a long note in the visitor's book.

Nigel and Fiona offer a well maintained property - everything works well! Clear instructions made it easy to find the house, local hidden nature and beauty spots. A really gorgeous and relatively so far untouristed part of Greece. We loved the peace, nature, sunshine and ease. Long may it last! Ancient historical sights were within easy reach - fascinating! We hope to be back for more exploring 😊

Villa Phoebe quickly felt like home to us. The bedrooms were quiet and cool at night with air conditioning, and the sitting room with overhead fan was cool and comfortable during the hot summer days. There were books for adults (all holiday houses should have books!), toys for the children to investigate and an outside shower, which was a huge hit. The walk through the village to the sea every day was good fun and gave us a great feel for the place. (Methoni is a real Greek town with a good, safe atmosphere and splendid beaches that are ideal for young children.) There wasn't a huge amount of space in the kitchen for storing or preparing food, but we ate out in the village most of the time so it didn't really matter and the kitchen provided everything we needed when we did eat at home. Also, we didn't actually use the top garden in the end, except for drying clothes - it just wasn't that practical with small children - but we used the terrace by the entrance a lot for breakfast and lunch, and that was fine.
Nigel and Fiona were great hosts and we felt they really took us to their hearts, going out of their way to help us with our queries and arrange taxis etc., which we really appreciated. We'd recommend their properties to anyone wishing to stay in an authentic Greek village house with the assurance of English-speaking assistance when / if you need it. Thanks again guys and hopefully see you another time!

The villa was exactly what was required in a quiet setting yet only a very short distance to the local amenities and walking distance to the beach. The villa contained everything needed for a great stay. All was clean with plenty of linen and towels. The local neighbours were very friendly and welcoming.
We were very familiar with the area and as usual we were not disappointed at any time during our stay. The food in Methoni is always one of the highlights of our holidays along with the scenary, warm seas and surrounding great beaches. I would recommend the area to anyone looking for a relaxing and low key holiday. .

We had a lovely time here in Aleiki Villa, myself and my two boys here, with my parents next to us in Villa Phoebe. An ideal arrangement ! We spent many lazy sunny days between the garden, the beaches and the local restaurants and cafes. Greece has been a revelation and I don't doubt that we will be back. Our picks are the small beach past the campsite and two restaurants Andreas' place round the corner and Palia Istoria on the street leading from the beach to the fort.

We echo everything the other reviewers have said about this lovely villa and its hospitable owners. Fiona and Nigel are the best hosts you could ask for, they know this area really well and are total experts at what they do. We felt at home here within ten minutes of arriving. The villa is charming, comfortable and very well equipped (as well as immaculately clean), the garden is perfect for lazy evenings, and the location is quiet but still central to all the goings on of the beautiful village. We were a couple and a friend seeking a peaceful retreat and an authentic experience and we couldn't have found anywhere better. This is a fantastic area to stay in, whether you want to hire a car and see the many incredible local sights (we recommend the stunning waterfalls at Polylimnos) or relax without a car and walk to everything you could possibly need for a peaceful holiday. The restaurants and beaches here are delightful and a showcase of Greece at its best. Almost loathe to be leave this review as we don't want Phoebe to get too booked up - we will be back!

Coming to this part of Greece, Methoni, has been like discovering all earth's pleasures in one place ! How wonderful to find a thriving high street butchers, bakers, fish mongers, wonderful grocers store all so welcoming to the humble un-greek speaking tourist. We have adopted the local cuisine and eaten so well. The endless sandy beaches and calm seas have been a wonder indeed to two small energetic boys. And when we have felt like a trip to paradise Voidokilia beach and fresh water lagoon have provided pleasures that will stay with us long after our return to England - oh to see it at migration time! For me the abundant insect life has been fascinating. So Nigel and Fiona thank you for letting us stay. It really has been wonderful and we fear we may be back !!
PS a couple of strong recommendations : Kastros restaurant on the corner of the castle is simply wonderful. Really great home cooked Greek food all locally sourced ( including VERY local wine ) absolutely charming service and with a few creative twists. Do go, we loved it. Also the nearer of the two butchers does the most sublime hog roast on Saturday mornings ( 3 whole pigs ) not to be missed.

Pheobe is a very homely stone house with all the comforts we needed, without being over-the-top in terms of luxury trimmings. The garden is very pretty and private for breakfast or evening meal, with both sunshine and shade and the seemingly constant buzz of cicadas.
For our family (two teenage daughters) the location was perfect. We like to be in among the villagers and able to easily walk everywhere. There is a permanent population in Methoni so even out of season there would be a good bar and restaurant nearby and an interesting flow of locals to and fro along the small main street. It's not a picture perfect place, it doesn't have fancy shops, but it's real! Old men watching the world go by as they flick their worry beads, women practising traditional dancing in a village hall, an open air movie night for the kids...
In summer the choice of tavernas and beach bars was really good and everyone friendly - we ended up eating out pretty much all the time because of the great prices and variety. The main square and beach are an easy stroll from Pheobe, as is the vast castle with its wild interior. The beach may not be the best ever but the water is beautiful and as you swim you have stunning views of mountains and stylish boats moored off. The 'tourists' are mainly Greek families (of all ages) so the atmosphere is lively but appealingly low key.
Fiona and Nigel are very fond of their Greek neighbours and lifestyle and gave us plenty of useful and enthusiastic advice as well as thoughtful extras like home grown oil and blueberries. Thank you both so much! We will definitely come back.

Our family spent three and a half weeks in Greece. We spent the first two in Nigel and Fiona’s villas in Methoni and we spent the last week at their place in Gialova. Each of the locations was wonderful. The accommodations were even nicer than the pictures convey, they were extremely clean, and well-stocked. Furthermore, Nigel and Fiona were glad to provide everything we needed from DVDs for our kids (and the villas were great for kids with plenty of room) to tips about sites to see to advice on the best boat rentals and most beautiful beaches to explore. The location of the villas is also perfect—we loved exploring the Peloponnese from Methoni and Gialova. These villas—and their gracious owners—helped make for a perfect holiday for our family.
