We stayed for 2 nights when attending a wedding locally. Couldn't fault anything during our stay. We had diner on the first night and after speaking with the chef (Cam) about food preferences he offered something off the menu that was delicious. The room was lovely, loads of space and the hotel itself and grounds made for a really nice break. Enjoyed a cool swim in the pool on the first night after a long drive which was just what we needed.

We stayed here with our two-year old. Firstly the positives:
- Stunning gardens and views. Gardens are immaculately kept.
- Use of pool was a real bonus.
- Clean, well-furnised, and comfortable bedrooms with everything you need including toiletries, refreshments and bathrooms. Great hairdryer.
- Fantastic shower with excellent pressure and temperature.
- Fabulous and friendly housekeepers. They made us feel welcome.
The areas I think could be improved:
- Breakfast started well on the weekend, but deteriorated over the week. Still adequate, but a but disappointing, especially when the cafetiere was replaced with little cups of coffee.
- There was no bar service after about 9pm. We like quiet places, but it would have been nice to have been able to get a drink on a night.
- It seemed like the management are missing a trick somewhere. It was the height of summer and it seemed quite under occupied.
- Finally, a lot of the facilities that are listed on the website did not exist when we got there. There was no cake on arrival, no sherry decanter in the room, no lunchtime service. I get the feeling that there might be some kind of financial struggle or cost cutting going on.
Overall, we had an enjoyable stay and it really was a beautiful hotel and it would be a shame for it to lose it's charm through cutting back too much.

It’s a charming coaching hotel that needs investment. Slightly out of the way. That said, splendid steak dinner. Breakfast was a self serve, I assume because of a lack of staff in the kitchen. There comes a tipping point where cutting back further would be the end.

The staff went well beyond what was expected, we were running late and missed the restaurant, however they cooked us a wonderful meal. The staff very friendly and helpful. The pictures do not give justice to the hotel I normally wouldn’t review a hotel but this is a little gem.

Lovely hotel, room had a lovely view, bathroom big with bath and separate shower. Could have had more drawers or shelves for clothes. No cooked breakfast in the week but enough choice of cold foods.

We didn’t initially plan to stay at The Castle of Comfort (TCoC) but did so as our pre-booked two night Bristol accommodation didn’t live up to its reviews. We searched on Hotels.com for an alternative and found TCoC and what a great little find. Shortly after booking we were called to see if we would be wanting an evening meal. This offer was taken and very welcome after a long drive. The food and service throughout our stay was great.

We had a lovely stay here The room was very nice, bed and pillows were comfortable. A good selection of teas with coffee and hot chocolate available to make in the room, replenished every day. The choice of breakfast was amazing. We had an evening meal which was very nice. The staff were very friendly. It is a bit isolated and is not near the main areas to visit

We’ve decided to pick this hotel for my 40th birthday stay as it has such good reviews. Sadly we were a bit let down. It’s just next to quite busy road and the soundproofing of the room was not great (we could hear everything from the upstairs room:walking, conversations, their TV). Condition of the room was a bit tired as well… The staff was lovely and breakfast was nice. Grounds were nice as well as quite a bit of greenery, birds chirping etc. It’s just sadly it was not 10/10 for us…

We spent a couple of nights here when attending a wedding nearly. The hotels is comfortable and welcoming. Food quality was excellent. We'd certainly go back again, particularly in the summer as there are good walks nearby.

An old-fashioned cosy English hotel, staff is friendly and welcoming, attached with a decent restaurant. Surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. Quite worth the money

It was a fabulous night.
We arrived a little late but the host said not to worry, they would keep the kitchen open - and the food was great.
the view from our window of the sheep in the field was beautiful - and the grounds were very nice.
The staff was exceptional at everything they did. We felt like family

I can't speak highly enough of this beautiful little hotel! From the complimentary tea and cake on arrivel to the decanter of sherry in the room ... it was full of nice little touches that make you feel special. We highly recommend it!

I can't speak highly enough of this hotel and the people who work there. From the moment we arrived until we checked out we were made to feel incredibly welcome by everyone, especially Emily (thank you so much).
The bedroom, dining area and lounge were spotlessly clean and very tastefully decorated; the patio area and grounds were immaculately kept and an absolute delight to wander around.
We decided to have our evening meal in the hotel and would definitely recommend the restaurant to guests and non guests. The food was absolutely delicious and, like the hotel, incredibly good value for money.
The little touches, like complementary tea and cake upon arrival and sherry in the room help to set Castle of Comfort aside from any hotel we've stayed at in the U.K..
This was our first stay here and it was such a wonderful experience that we really hope to be back but next time it will be for much longer.
Thank you all once again.

A charming accommodation with lots of history.(the bathroom taps will talk to you) Excellent, sincere friendly service from check in to departure. Reasonable value (hard to find in Briton) including breakfast. Would have enjoyed staying longer to perhaps spend time in the pool. Meeting Carol, owner/chef was a plus. Her evening meals were nicely presented.

I made a booking to stay here through the Hotels.com app. I drove the 4.5 hours and arrived at around 8.30pm was greeted by a lovely lady who seemed shocked to see me. They had not received any notification about my booking and I was the second person to arrive with the same issue.
The ladies at Castle of comfort were fantasic, they sorted me a room with no drama and also fed me even though they only buy in fresh supplies for their expected guests. See the photo of my meal attached it was exellent.
My room was very compfortable, clean and in excellent condition and breakfast was fantastic.
I would highly recommend a stay whether on business like myself or as a base for exploring the area, something I plan to do in the future with my wife.
Hotels.com have now issued a refund, so all is well :)

The lovely reception on arrival continued through our stay. The dinners are just perfect and great breakfast selections. Room clean. Would recommend for a stay in the area.

The best in the county. Carol, the owner was so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The pillows and mattresses were super comfy, crisp cotton sheets, enormous and beautiful garden with a slide, swing and swimming pool. An astonishing choice for breakfast - I can highly recommend the porridge with cream and honey. This place should definitely be rated five star and we will definitely be coming back

We returned to stay at CoC after enjoying an evening meal there on a previous visit to the area. Our stay didn't disappoint. Room 5 has a comfortable king sized bed, two easy chairs and a modern bathroom with excellent shower. Tea and coffee making facilities offered a wide variety of flavours with biscuits, sweets and sherry as a bonus.
Most rooms at the CoC are at the front of the building so there is some traffic noise. It didn't worry us but will no doubt be worse in Summer.
The staff were unfailingly friendly and attentive, the breakfast menu extensive & delicious and the evening meals had a limited choice of mains but we're also delicious.
Note: Access upstairs is by a narrow winding staircase.

My husband and I travelled to the Castle of Comfort for a wedding nearby. I advised them that we would be arriving late, as we were coming down from Yorkshire.
Carol greeted us as we arrived, and she was so friendly. Our room was lovely and the team couldn't do enough for us. I also have to praise Emily, who was perfect and she made us feel so welcome.
Nothing was too much and they helped us get a local taxi etc.
Breakfast was amazing and we did eat on the Friday night... delicious!
Thank you to the team.

We had a great weekend with Carol and the team. Well looked after from the moment we arrived till we left.
Rooms were traditional and very clean with everything you would expect at a larger hotel.
Loved the fact there was some relaxing bubble bath which was needed after a night of dancing at a wedding nearby.
Will be back soon.

We had a wonderful one-night stay on the way back from Devon. From the minute we arrived, the staff were really helpful and friendly. We had a swim in the on-site pool. The room was clean and had everything we needed. Good, large shower and comfortable bed. Food was excellent and the service at dinner was really good. Would definitely stay again.

A beautiful period property, with a very homely and comfortable feel. The proprietors made us feel very welcome and even gave us a lift to the local pub.
