The hotel seemed great for a minute. The first front desk woman was kind and allowed us to hold our bags and pay for the spa to kill time since we arrived much earlier than expected. Pool and resting areas are very clean and nice. A lot of options to relax and not a lot of traffic. But when we checked in there was no AC so it was pretty stuffy and hot and never cooled down even with the windows open. The main issue was having the second person working at the front desk try and hold our food we ordered hostage. I am vegetarian so I opted out of their expensive buffet. We got no notice of our food being delivered. Only found out when we passed by the front desk walking around the hotel. The worker proceeded to vaguely threaten us saying we wouldn’t be treated so kindly next time we ordered food to the hotel because it was forbidden. Followed by her hesitating to go behind the counter where our food was being stashed as if she wasn’t going to give it to us. She then reiterated we needed to get our food out of sight to avoid her coworker also being unkind over what we ordered. It was extremely off putting given what we paid for the room and spa. Also there was nothing stated to us about this policy so we were blindsided.

The hotel changed the Covid rules when I arrived requiring a test from their guests on a daily basis. It was by far the most retroactive rule any business set up during the time I was in Germany. In addition to this the hotel used to have a reputation of being excellent years ago. It is not a luxury hotel anymore. Rooms are very simple, beds (futon mattress) is sparse and uncomfortable, the duvet is the quality of a blanket in an old youth hostel and the bathrooms are just old…

After some days in busy Düsseldorf it was nice to breath in fresh air and have a quite night. It’s a bit more expensive, but waking up relaxed also has a value. I was there on a sunny and mildly warm day, so a little dive in the swimmingpool after work was great.

Really amazing hotel that was incredibly relaxing and nothing like I expected. The entire ambience was about wellness and the hotel itself was like a step back in time with log fires everywhere. Staff were attentive and helpful and the food was very good.

Stay is quite an experience, though pricey. The hotel styled after a medieval fortress, built with old stones. Great attention to detail, even cricket chirping from behind doors. Rooms are excellent and stulish. First time I saw a two-storey bathroom! And an in-room sauna!!! The room looks very clean, except for a cockroach my wife found and killed. We told reception and they freaked out. Food is excellent and german-themed. Restaurant bill for 4 with just 1 glass of wine and 3 beers was 450€ euros, but this was a family reunion, so who's counting... Excellent themed getaway, but a 45€ taxi ride to town, or airport. A great one-time experience.
