Pro : hotel by the sea , fab staff , really perfect place to stay .
Cons : showers and bathroom ergonomics need thinking about and a mirror for on coming traffic on the very busy corner where pedestrians cross to reach the beach .

We stayed at the Valais in late September/early October this year, & had a wonderfully relaxing & enjoyable week. The hotel is right on the beach, which is sandy, & the sea is shallow for a long way out, making it very safe for swimming. We particularly enjoyed the "beach butler" service, which meant we could eat lunch & get drinks without ever moving from our sunbeds, & breakfast on the terrace with a perfect beach view. The hotel itself is clean, modern & comfortable, & there are multiple screens in the bar showing all the football games you could want. It was never noisy though, & the location away from the main village is very peaceful. We found a lovely taverna "Neraida" just two minutes' walk away near the little harbour, with a very traditional Greek menu & a beach view perfect for watching the sun set behind the mountains opposite. We ate there most nights. The main village is a five-ten minute walk away if you fancy more variety, but most of the eateries there seem more "touristy" & less Greek. The hotel has a pool & a variety of watersports & boat trips on offer, although we didn't make use of them. The staff are friendly & couldn't do enough to make sure we were well looked after. We would like to thank Julie, Katerina, Christos & especially Riz who was so helpful when my partner managed to injure himself one night - NOT the fault of the hotel by the way! We would definitely stay there again.

Location close to beach and village was great.
Staff were great. Hard to find the receptionist, she was never at the desk.
Didn't like all the extra charges for loungers ans air con..
Very noisy if you are in a room opposite the Mill Bar. music VERY loud didn't stop till 1:00 AM most nights.

The reception was a failure. Person at the reception did not make us feel welcome, no nice words, no advices, nobody showed and explained the room and helped to bring the luggage. But the critical point was, that we did not get any information that the air condition is not included and needs to be activated and payed separately. What's the first thing if you arrive in the hotel room after 6 hot hours travel from Athens, you trying to start the Air condition.. Under pressure by angry wife in the Hotel room (Air condition is very important for her and reason to start marriage crisis), I go back to reception, nobody there, going to the pool and talking to the waiter (sorry too lose my countenance there). Beside this and the too small bed, no complaints, very good value for the money! Everything very clean and well maintained, nice quiet location, good friendly service in the restaurant/pool area, walking distance too many bars and restaurants, but don't expect party, its a beautiful relaxed family and couple vacation place. However, the start is everything, in Athens we had an ugly room but we did not care because the receptionist who brought our luggage to the room was extremely friendly and helpful.

Lovely hotel, by the sea. Excellent facilities, friendly staff that really looked after me, food very good. Would thoroughly recommend!

Staff exceptionally welcoming and helpful.
Great Pool.
Right on the beach.
Shame EVERYTHING had to be paid for - this included pool towels, pillows for poolside sun loungers, strange small value "extras" on your bills A/C etc. I din't mind but it took the shine off a little. Personally, I'd rather pay more and have these small things free.
Menu was ok but not inspiring.
About average cost. Small portions compared to some local restraunts.
Drinks were about average cost.
We both enjoyed our stay mostly because it was so quiet which may not suit everyone.
Would go back.

The family Valais for many years and their staff are long standing, welcoming and really helpful. Positioned at the best place on the lovely safe bay at Alykanas lots of walks, water sports, really recommend

The friendliest hotel I've ever stayed it, made to feel welcome by everyone. The hotel overlooks the beach and is also ideally placed, 5 minutes walk to resort centre but quiet location.

On one side I have to say that there wasn't anybody at the reception when we arrived, and we struggled to find someone there during our entire stay. On the other side, the staff of the bar - Lindsey, Michael, Julie, Susan and Jim - were very precise, polite, kind and helpful.
The room was't very clean and the bathroom was pretty small. The air conditioning is available, but it costs 5€ a day.
The beach staff were willing and friendly, they made us feel at home.

Fantastic team of staff here, so friendly and welcoming. Like staying with family. Busy enough to have company if you choose, but quiet enough to relax. Beautiful part of Zante. Our 3rd visit and we love it.
