The local area:
Heron’s Rest is situated in a charming, peaceful community with homes and recreation carefully placed amid nature preserves spanning thousands of acres.
Rotonda is an area that caters for many interests and pursuits. With its relaxed atmosphere and abundant wildlife, there is something for everyone, from the renowned golf courses on your doorstep to the local white sandy beaches of the Gulf of Mexico.
On Rotonda itself there are local, free tennis courts and cycling trails and the villa is equipped with sets of golf clubs, bicycles and tennis racquets.
Fishing rods and gear are provided for use off the villa’s own dock. For a day at the beach there are deck chairs/loungers and beach gear for the kids! We even provide coolers. We leave much of our own personal stuff for you to use.
Things to Do:
Rotonda is a Golfers’ paradise! There are no less than six local golf courses, including four operated by Rotonda Golf and Country Club. For non-golfers, there is freshwater or deep-sea fishing with some of the best fishing in the world at nearby Charlotte Harbour. Other water sports, including boat hire, Jet Ski, kayak’s take you out into the Gulf. Air boat rides.
Wildlife:
Bring your binoculars! As you will see (depending on season) from our own deck, every kind of bird, alligators, otters, turtles and so on.
A photographers paradise! It really is a pleasure just to watch the wildlife in your own back yard.
Beaches:
There are several gorgeous, white beaches within a ten- to fifteen-minute drive. Quiet and remote, they attract lots of bird life, dolphins, turtles and other wildlife. There are no big crowds, just plenty of white sand with wonderful shells being lapped by gentle waves. You must stay on to see one of the stunning sunsets.
Rotonda: is a unique circular development built around golf courses and waterways in the Englewood area of Charlotte County.
You soon discover a part of Florida that is off the beaten path - unhurried, unspoiled and uncrowded.
This region is often called the “gem of the sun coast”, and you will soon see why.
On the beautiful Gulf of Mexico in southwest Florida, Rotonda/Englewood is located mid-way between Tampa and Fort Myers. Wildlife is abundant: Rotonda is a bird sanctuary, where you can expect to spot many varieties. Its many miles of waterways - including the waterway that runs along the bottom of the garden – include otters, turtles and a variety of fish. You might even spot nocturnal residents such as raccoons, armadillos and bobcats. Most mornings, a great grey heron relaxes on our fishing dock, hence the name “Heron’s Rest”. From our own dock we have seen alligators, turtles, many kinds of birds.
When at the beach, for one of the glorious sunsets, look out, you may catch sight of dolphins alongside the numerous birdlife.
It is peaceful here, but, if you fancy visiting somewhere designed for higher-energy thrills, there are plenty of tourist attractions nearby. Rotonda is an “away from it all” location, yet is the perfect base for trips to the larger tourist resorts of Fort Myers, Tampa, Miami, Sarasota or Venice.
Finally, there are many major attractions and places of interest, including Disney, Universal Studios, Busch Gardens and the Everglades, all within driving distance. Charlotte Harbour Area:
The wider surrounding area of Charlotte Harbour and the Gulf Islands is a collection of nine charming coastal communities surrounding the state’s second largest harbour. It is known for its expansive, unspoiled beauty.
Restaurants:
The area boasts numerous styles of restaurants, either locally-owned or larger chains. Renowned for fresh, local-caught seafood, many restaurants are at located on the water’s edge.
Shopping:
Local supermarkets provide a vast range of food and wine and deliciously inviting delicatessens. Inland to Port Charlotte, around fifteen minutes’ drive, is an extensive shopping area and mall with major stores, a large range of restaurants and multi plex cinema. Further afield are huge outlet malls.
Theme Parks and Attractions:
Orlando and the Disney/Universal/Sea world theme parks is about a 2.5 hour drive. It can be a long day trip, but a stopover at a budget motel means a two- to three-day visit is within easy reach and the journey is very straightforward.
A closer attraction is Busch Gardens, Tampa - a fantastic theme park offering thrilling rides as well as one of the country's premier zoos featuring more than 2,700 animals. It has something for all ages. Being just two hours’ journey away, Busch Gardens is a fun day trip.
Miami, with its famous South Beach, is a three-hour drive away.
The Everglades, where you can experience air boat rides and see alligators, are within easy reach.

Me and my husband bring our kids to this area each year to visit family. We love the area and the house was very nice. Had everything we needed for the week, which made it so easy to pack knowing we didn't need a lot of stuff. It was a little to warm to use the pool table in the garage do us but maybe a different time of year. The Management Company was very responsive when we had a question. Overall made nice memories and had a great time!

The house was exactly as described. My husband loved fishing on the dock while I sat by the pool in the evenings. Close to the amazing beaches. We hope to rent again next year. Thank you for a great rental.

I can only say- wonderful vacation time at this villa! Excellent experience, everything in the house was very comfortable and more than you can imagine. They have everything you need to feel relaxed and not worry about small things. Best wishes and thanks again!

Highly recommend this home...we will definitely be coming back!

A wonderful, well-kept home in a quiet neighborhood with lots of wildlife to see in and around the canal. The fenced-in yard allowed us to watch the alligator in the canal without wondering if he would come ashore or not. The kitchen was well-stocked and had everything we needed to cook. Close to Boca Grande beach, where a manatee swam right past us! The pool was good to relax in. Would definitely stay here again!

Truly enjoyed the stay and the property was more than accommodating!!

We have found our new home away from home!! This home is convenient to everything you could possibly need while here. Our favorite beaches and restaurants were only minutes away, which makes any holiday that much more relaxed. I was determined to see a dinosaur this trip, and right when we went over the first bit of water in the neighborhood I look over, squeal, almost making my boyfriend wreck because I spotted a.... DINOSAUR!!!! And there were also some in the waterway behind the home, I named them all El Champo! The weather wasn't in our favor the first couple of days which is normal for FL summers, which was another reason I fell in love with this home because of all it offers in terms of entertainment for the kids and us adults. We were never bored. The absolutely ONLY downfall to the home isn't anything about the home but is something all of FL has to deal with, which is that trash bins have to stay in the garages, but the family before us seemed to have eaten a fair amount of fish and forgot to set the bins out that morning for pickup. So in the afternoons the smell could be overwheling when going into the garage, but like I said, that's all of FL especially in the blistering summers. On our way home the kids were already planning our trip back next summer, which was interesting due to the fact that my prissy daughter is determined to wrangle a dinosaur and bring home with us lolol!! I can't thank the owners enough for letting us stay in their lovely piece of paradise!

The place is very nice. We made food in the kitchen. We swam little bit in the swimming pool but we enjoyed the beach and jet ski in Englewood. The pool is somewhat clean. I had to remove bugs. We played the pool game. This place is wonderful place to stay.

We loved everything about the property.

The house was very clean and roomy for a family of 5. The kitchen was well stocked to prepare meals. The pool was fantastic. About a 10 to 15 minute drive great beaches. Overall would give the location a 5 star review.

We had a great time during our stay, this property was perfect for our family.

We really did enjoy the property. There were a few lights burned out and the fridge wasn't staying cool enough, when we contacted the property manager it was after 9pm but they responded within an hour and came out the next day to fix it. Our only suggestion to the owners would be to get new flooring, the vinal flooring throughout the house was peeling up along all the edges. It was a lovely property, very peaceful and clean.

This rental was absolutely everything that my family was expecting and more, from the pool, dock on the canal, the proximity to the beaches, it was perfect!

We loved the pool but only got to use it one day. The weather turned horrible. Coldest it has been in years there with extremely bad winds due to the Noreaster. We still loved every moment.

The house was exactly as pictured and the contactless check in was simple. The communication with the owner was easy with quick responses. The kitchen was the best stocked we have ever had and we do rentals frequently. They also had more towels than I have at home and also beach/pool towels. We enjoyed using the pool table, bicycles and beach chairs provided in the garage. There is a bike trail near the house and also walking trails and golf courses within Rotonda. We paid to have the pool heated which made swimming great. We also loved watching the wildlife through the screened in Lanai every day. We now know why they call the house Heron’s Rest as we saw the heron every day and egrets, anhingas, sand hill cranes and alligators. We saw a very large alligator several mornings and once it came up on the bank on the empty lot next door for a photo opp. Also saw baby alligators from the golf cart path bridge nearby. We enjoyed the beach and kayaking which is about 20 minutes away. Our favorite restaurants were Farlows and Lighthouse Grill. There were two very minor maintenance issues that occurred during our two month stay and the property management company resolved them right away. We would definitely stay here again and were sad to have go back home.

The home was very spacious and well maintained. We live in the same state so we were able to drive there with extra supplies just in case. Well, we did not need anything. The home was well stocked with dishes and linens. The WiFi and cable worked really well. The pool was spotless and relaxing. The only drawback was that the neighborhood is quite a distance from the water/beach and shopping. There is a Publix nearby and a handful of restaurants. It was fine for us this time because the intent of the trip was to relax. Great area if you bike or like to walk. Plenty of room for a family. The Master bedroom is on a different side of the house, away from the other bedrooms. Thank you Michael for your hospitality and the great condition of your home.

We fell in love with this place the minute we walked through the door! The large sliding doors out to the pool area was just so inviting and a wonderful place to relax. We just immediately felt like we were home with warm decorations and pictures of the family that owns the house. The neighborhood is a quiet one and an easy drive to many beautiful beaches. We would spend our mornings on the beach and then come home and relax in the pool in the afternoons. It was well worth it to pay extra to have the pool heated so then we could swim at night under the stars. The rooms were perfect for our grand children giving each one of them their own space and at the opposite end of the house was the master bedroom with a very spacious bathroom and a wonderful rain shower. We would love to go back and I know the grandchildren are ready to go back any day they had a great time! It was a perfect grandparent getaway. Thank you for such a beautiful place!
