Everything was closer, such as shopping center and parking was ridiculous to pay.
Rooms not acceptable to dark and front desk control the air.

Staff was kind. Hotel room was nice, comfortable, clean. Not too noisy. Restaurant was reasonably priced for a four star hotel.
What did not go well.....I booked the room through booking.com. The room price was $191 plus tax. I ended up paying well over $300 for parking and amenities (that I never used). That was a surprise. So the room cost me nearly double what I expected. Also check in is way too late (4:00pm)

Great location. It was across from the Galleria and had delicious restaurants around the area too. Very easy to get on/off 610 to and from the hotel. The all American breakfast and coffee were very good. While checking out I informed the hotel clerk the 2 issues I had with the room and she was very nice to waive the "amenity fee".
I stayed at Hotel Derek for 3 nights and during my stay I felt that the hotel was more focused on fashion than function. The small refrigerator in the room was leaking water and the light along the mirror was broken. We did ask for the light and refrigerator to be looked at and fixed, but unfortunately nothing was done. When you stay at the hotel be prepared to self park for $28 a night or valet for $38 a night. Self parking is located closely behind the hotel, but not connected, so it was a little difficult getting my items to my car. I did use a cart to assist getting my baggage to the car, but due to being parked on the 6th floor there wasn't a ramp to use to manage the cart down to the car. Due to my specific length of stay, we had a complimentary breakfast at the small bar/restaurant located in the hotel. However, my last morning I only wanted coffee and did not want breakfast. I found out that the coffee was complimentary only if I ordered the breakfast meal. During the 3 night stay, there was a heavy gas smell when walking into the hotel near the pool area.

Nothing, we called before driving hours just to be staring at a dirty wall, the room is dirty, and the staff is rude.
Everything from the moment we walked in. We called before driving hours to discuss the room and accommodations just to be staring at a dirty wall, the room is dirty, and the staff is rude.

Quick check in. Courteous staff. Lounge area. Valet parking
Pillows are like folded newspapers very uncomfortable.

The steak I ordered was delicious
Bacon and eggs were undercooked although I asked for them to be made well done. No housekeeping. I requested new bed linens never received them. I had to request more towels multiple times before I received them. No microwave. Although there was a free complementary breakfast it was unclear how to receive it. The nightstand was broken. No one was at the front desk half the time. Poor customer service across the board.

I used to love this hotel. I think everyone did. it was trendy and kind of wild, but it still felt cool and luxurious. regrettably it has fallen on hard times the last several years and the amenities keep disappearing.
Gone is the mini bar and room service options. The projector over the pool isn't showing movies anymore and the lobby has been redecorated to a reflect a cheaper, more monotone and "basic brown" looking style. The robes are shabby for obvious wear. The rooms have not been updated for over a decade and the age shows. It no longer feels luxurious but the price hasn't gone down despite the lack of amenities and the fading grandeur. Not even a microwave or a minibar. Room didn't even have cups. Shower supplies have been downgraded. Feels more like a comfort inn than a 4 star hotel. Needs some attention. Staff was ok but not overly welcoming or anything. I think I'll hunt elsewhere for a fun escape next time. The cutting costs are cutting into the allure.

The breakfast was pretty basic

Room was ok, But no cleaning at all, and no room service.
need to pay 28$ for self parking and 38$ for valet.
Need to pay for all taxes, even you mentioned it is included on the rate.

I selected the property because of its location.
The bathroom tub had two long (6-8”) hairs on the bottom. The water in the shower wouldn’t turn off even with heavy force. The shower curtain hangs so that it’s always touching the toilet. The orange and purple color scheme of the room was unattractive. The vibe of the room was generally shabby. There was not a single usb port in the room. I checked in at 4:30 pm and at 11:05 pm the hotel auto messenger texted asking how I was liking the stay and asking it I needed anything. It really was 12:05 am because of the time change occurring that night. How is this an acceptable time to be sending texts like that? I can’t silence my phone because I need to communicate with my family and polite phone etiquette should not include wellness texts from your hotel at midnight.

the room was nice
the staff was dry and house keeping sucked they only came around to refill the snacks not clean the room. The restaurant downstairs was as accessible. Homeless people were everywhere as soon as you walk outside.

All of the ice machines where broken. The hotels smells like weed. The parking elevator was not working and we had to park on the 6th floor.

the building itself was very beautiful!
Our room did not have air. Called maintenance twice to have fixed and once they left it never fully cooled down. was told because it’s higher up that it wouldn’t be cold.

Location
Hotel was dirty , outdated , house keeping only came 3 times even though we were on the list after list everyday even had to go downstairs and ask daily sometimes they never came at all. Business center was empty gutted out cubby holes . No computers no printers basically just a space.
