The layout of the condo was great with lots of space for our family. The pool was nice.
We booked two units together and were told they were “only one unit apart”, however when we arrived, we discovered they were actually 2 buildings and many units apart., which was highly inconvenient for our family traveling all together.
Also, the photos were a little deceiving. The “premier” units are on the second floor, which means you have no access to the grassy area with hammocks and bbq grills unless you climb through the bushes or walk all the way around the property.
The buildings closest to the gate/office are quite far from the pool.
The rules at the pool are terrible. You can’t bring any outside drinks or snacks (including water bottles). We had staff confiscate Gatorade. I understand that they want you to buy their food and drinks, but we dropped $300 on lunch and drinks at the restaurant and then still couldn’t use our water bottle and they took away a can of juice in our bag. We’ve never been to a pool with such strict awful rules in any complex we’ve lived or visited. Also a grumpy old man tried to tell us our kids couldn’t get in the hot tub…
The pool runs out of towels in the afternoon every day and you aren’t allowed to bring any other towels in or out.

Staff at the main office was very friendly.

Beautiful condo/resort and near shops and restaurants. Loved going to Island Gourmet Market for our groceries, food, and other essentials for the condo. The restaurants nearby are expensive so Island Gourmet was a nice relief from the expense of the food places. There is a small farmer's market at King Shops and we ate food from the vendors. Really nice. The condo has plenty of room for a large family. Helen at the front office was helpful.
I was surprised to be greeted with a housecleaning bill at check in. It should have been included in the total bill. All of the beds in the condo were loud and made a terrible creaking noise. If you are sharing beds and get up at night, you will likely wake someone up - it's that loud. Windows are adorned with vertical blinds and several of them keep falling. We've had to put them back up many times in the master bedroom, a guest room and the main living area. If you don't put them back up, bright light will shine through in the morning.

Beautiful spot. Quiet with a lovely breeze. Most of the food in the restaurant was really good. Pulled pork was a family favorite. Loved the gym, has the most incredible view. Our second time staying at this spot, perfect for a quick getaway.
Some folks at the pool were extremely obnoxious.

The view from the pool is unbeatable, and the condo was well appointed.
There are far too many rules for the pool which are arbitrarily enforced. Staff at the office were not particularly helpful.

First of all, the grounds are SO well maintained and absolutely beautiful!! We had quite a few extremely windy days and there was always a crew of grounds-people cleaning up after the winds. They really care about the landscape and flora here. I read several reviews about the Ocean Club rules...and this is true. They are very strict in there and poolside. But by no means a deal breaker. Just be resigned to eat/drink their items and/or fill up b4 you go in. :-) BTW...Kathy (server in Ocean Club) is THE BEST!!
The unit we stayed in was very nice. The carpet could use an update and the beds were not very comfortable but not terrible either. There was limited cookwear (just enough to get by) but not enough if you did alot of ur own cooking. The 2 fry pans should go bc no matter how much oil/spray you use everything sticks.

Great location with beautiful well kept grounds and buildings. The home was clean and very quiet at night. Would definitely stay at this property again!
Beach equipment was provided but no beach towels.

I loved the amenities of the pool and gym, and our condo was lovely.
The food at the club restaurant was a bit expensive.

wonderful. unit 2C had everything we wanted. the dvd player was broken but one of the staff ladies actually brought one from her own home so we could use it. The condo was perfect. The pool is gorgeous and the staff there and in the cafe were outstanding. We had cable tv there and On Demand current movies. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else.
I wish they served breakfast at the Ocean Club (at the pool)

The pool area was lovely, the property itself was lovely. The location was very nice.
The unit we were assigned was a dump. You posted lovely pictures of the units on your booking site but the unit we got was definitely not pictured. If pictures of the actual unit we were placed in had been posted, we never would have booked with you. The “garden view” is actually no view. The lanais are directly up against the only area of the resort that is not landscaped. It looks directly into some scrub evergreens, you could reach out and touch them. Carpets were filthy and stained. The walls were dirty. The mattresses were thin, flimsy and you could feel every spring in your back. Furniture was old, and dirty. The kitchen was barely stocked, not even enough bowls, spoons, etc for number of people the unit was supposed to accommodate. Many things that might be considered essential for a kitchen were not stocked. Two towels and one washcloth per person in the bathrooms so plan to do laundry if you want clean towels. You will need to use the bath towels at the beach. They provide a small sample box of detergent so you will need to buy your own. Beach gear was a cooler. No beach towels, chairs or anything else. We had to rent beach chairs. We typically book condos on vacation. We have never had such a shabby and poorly stocked condo. We talked to the front office and were told it is owner dependent. Owners are held to no standard when renting. Owners of rental condos typically make an effort to accommodate renters and make them feel welcome. The owners of 1G at Hall Kai did nothing to make the stay comfortable. Given this, I would recommend taking your money elsewhere if unit 1G is even a remote possibility as your unit. Sadly, we know the other units at this property are better maintained and stocked. So you pay the same as others who book on this site but get a far worse experience for your money based on the random assignment of units. We were in contact with Booking.

we come to the island every year and we have stayed at Hali’i Kai before so we know the location well. The resort is lovely.
we were a family of 5 and the place was to sleep 5, we got there and it only slept 4. The other thing to help the rating out would be some beach towels, we had to take bath towels to beach and wash them every day , that is avoidable if the place had some beach towels like most rentals there have. Other thing would be to have a few beach chairs as most rentals in the resort come with those. Besides these things, Hali’i Kai itself is beautiful as always and well maintained

Great location, nice common areas, great pool/Jacuzzi. Decent food & drinks at the restaurant.
Staff at the pool/restaurant could use A LOT of improvement. There is some obsessive rule enforcement for the smallest tiniest things. Really takes away from enjoyment. Example: you get accosted for bringing a water bottle to the GYM!!!
The gym has a wonderful location but is very cramped and often gets crowded/full. Towel service at the gym is spotty.
Tennis + pickleball courts are nice. So is the putting green.
Front desk personnel was friendly and accommodating.

Very clean, spacious and modern condo. having two full bathrooms was great. the outdoor space was beautiful as well. We made breakfast each day and used the grills for dinner one night and it saved us a lot of money. The beds we comfortable and we had plenty of towels, beach towels, beach chairs and toys. The pool had an amazing view and there was an excellent safe swimming beach for families just a five minute drive away. This condo seemed to be in a very safe area but was gated for extra security.
There was nothing we didn’t like about the property. We were even allowed to check in two ours early.

Absolutely loved the lanai! Amazing sunsets, nice cross breeze, perfect place for a cup of coffee or wine!! Having the condo made our trip much more comfortable and efficient. We were a short walk to the pool and Ocean Club for great food & views!! Laundry room allowed us to leave without dirty clothes.
The condo was decorated very nice-homey & tropical. Looked very clean upon arrival. There was what looked like chocolate dried on the refrigerator handle, prompting a cleaning of the kitchen. There was no beach access from the property. These were minor things, we would stay there again!

The property is located in a beautifully landscaped and maintained complex. Pool and restaurant were amazing and largely why we chose this location. Condo itself was very clean but very stripped down compared to other condos we have rented in Hawaii. Unfortunately, other than a couple boogie boards there were no other beach amenities provide such as cooler, beach chairs, or even beach towels which is usually pretty standard at most condos in Hawaii. Also, there were no basic spices other than small supply of coffee. Bed unfortunately was the big issue—super uncomfortable—very squeaky. We reached out to onsite management and they were very accommodating. Maintenance did attempt to fix super squeaky uncomfortable bed as they had received previous and similar complaints but to no avail—still appreciated the attempt! Fortunately management also provided some beach towels and some additional coffee which was very nice on their part. I will definitely stay at this complex again but in a different unit.

AC was hard to adjust and keep constant comfy temp — it was programmed to go off at night which got too warm and we had to get up in the middle of the night and lower the temp.

The grounds and building structures were beautiful
The Ocean Club was so far from our unit that we felt the need to drive. When we got there, there was no parking. Obviously other tenants felt the need to drive also.
The mattress in the main bedroom needs to be replaced. It squeaks when you move and the mattress had no firmness to it.

The location of the property is superb. The grounds and gardens are beautiful and very well kept. the pool with its restaurant/bar are fabulous and the best part of the property, along with its location on the Shoreline Trail.
Given the high price of the unit, the plastic glasses and dishes seemed to miss the mark. We also had expected some beach chairs for the beach, as we came by plane and couldn’t bring our own. Also, the furnishings were dark and somewhat dated.

restaurant, was great, the ground’s beautiful, good location
very strict rules for kids, not as family oriented as we thought. our condo had carpet that didn’t look very clean , should be tile or something easy to clean.

This was a beautiful location with all the amenities. The Beach Club restaurant and pool were amazing. Our refrigerator was having problems during the stay, so they upgraded us to a larger ocean-side condo. Could not have asked for better place to spend our vacation.
Nothing.
