This homestay is absolutely incredible!!! The location is stunningly beautiful, the hosts are exceptionally friendly and kind, the food is delicious, the safaris they offer are amazing and memorable adventures!! Some of my best memories in Nepal have been staying here. I highly recommend this homestay!! I can’t recommend it enough!!!
There’s nothing I didn’t like. I have thoroughly enjoyed staying here!!!

The main house is a gem! Old traditional wooden house with view at rice fields. Very remote location (!), in a true Nepalese countryside. The only place we could see buffalo carts on the way to and from the property.
Lots of wildlife too, including wild boar coming every night to feed on rice.
Considering how far it is from other places, staying few nights is in our opinion the best option.
Softer beds, better bridge across the river.

If you want to experience the rural life of Nepal and take amazing pictures with the sunset on the rice fields, this is a place to stay. To rest and to discover local life. But it is surely way more expensive than other places especially the safari. If you are willing to pay more and you don’t mind you can book. Otherwise I recommend to go there as a holiday on a farm. The room was very cosy and the bathrooms cute and clean.
Safari was 11 hours long to see a lot of the national park and also areas other tourist would not go. Anyways it was way to expensive with 180 Dollar. Taxi from the airport to the place is 2 hours for 25 Dollar. Bus is an adventure but is like 2 Dollars instead.

If you want to truly experience Nepal, then this is the place for you!
The family is incredible, the food is delicious and the location is breathtaking!
I highly recommend this property to any travelers, solo, couples and families 😁

We loved being so close to nature, the farm, the animals. The trek to the waterfalls, guided by the resort owner, Ramakanta, himself.
His wife and son not only took care of us at the resort but also prepared all the delicious meals for the 2 days.
4.4
This place is for peace loving people. I enjoyed the place of nothing but just nature. Went to the waterfall by walk for 3-4 hours. In season you have access to the chitwan national park.

Shanta Ghar is a place for the people seeking solitude...it's for the people who like to talk to the locals and understand how they live. It's about understanding how people have made out a home in a place so far from the city, yet it feels like home. It's about going back in time and appreciating whatever life has given to us.
Highly recommended to all the solo travelers and the peace seekers. Respect the environment around and do not play loud music, or do not throw trash anywhere.

Beautiful surroundings, beautiful house and a beautiful family who couldn’t do enough for us! The hosts took us on a safari which was outstanding. Absolutely don’t be put off by the fact this properly is away from the centre of Chitwan - we trekked to a a secret waterfall, had the most beautiful private safari and explored the local village, away from tourists. Our best place yet to visit! Thank you so for all your warmth, guidance, care, exceptional knowledge of the area/animals and hospitality too - we will be back!

A beautiful setting, wonderful hosts, which made us all feel immediately at home and part of the family… incredible food too! Ramakata and his family were fantastic hosts, they also provided excellent excursions
too, including: an open jeep safari; secret waterfall trek and a visit to Stand Up 4 Elephants. We have had an incredible stay at Shanta Ghar and I cannot recommend this homestay enough. It was also lovely to be away from the busy tourist away of Chitwan… instead we got a taste for real life, authentic, rural Nepal - with an incredible safari thrown in!
5 stars - we’ll certainly be back.

The Homestay is perfectly located within the park and offers a total immersion in the beautiful natural surroundings.
Ramakanta and his family are great hosts, we were very well taken care of, the food was some of the best we had in Nepal, they are lovely people to be around.
No negative points in mind

The family is so nice and friendly, and also the food is amazing. For everybody who wishes a real local Nepal experience
It is a local experience, so a little bit more basic and it is a bit remote so it takes a bit longer to get there (2,5h local bus); but worth it!

I liked everything. The friendliness, the house and its decoration, the walkway to the bathroom (especially at night), the food, the river,
the location, everything!

This is a really special place. it won’t appeal to everyone. It’s not a resort. it’s a family home where you will experience real Nepali life in a rural village on the edge of the Chitwan National Park. The food is delicious, home cooking - some of the best we had in Nepal. Rama and his family are wonderful and will do anything to make your stay a perfect one. The safari we did was amazing - we saw 9 rhinos, including a really close encounter with a mother and tiny baby. The other highlight was a mother and baby sloth bear. Definitely recommend you do this if you stay here. We passed other jeeps full of tourists and we had just four of us and were out until the sun just started to go down.
The beds are hard but this seems to be quite normal in Nepal. At first the bathroom looked like it might have insects at night and you had to go across a little bridge to get to it. In reality it was clean and nothing scary ever jumped out at me and I loved the little bridge. It’s a bit like glamping but that’s part of the appeal. And also why it won’t suit everyone!

I’ve longer hesitated before leaving a review for this place. Ramakanta’s family have been so beautiful to us that we felt very confused about everything that happened over there. We had some beautiful experiences as the exceptional food from Ramakanta’s wife, the hospitality from his family and we even had the chance to arrive for a buffalo’s birth but Ramakanta ruined our whole feelings.
The budget room is described with a balcony and a saloon corner in the description as in the pictures of the room but it doesn’t. We’ve finally have been charger 12000 nrp + more than 2000 for the « government taxes » instead of around 5000 taxes included.
The place is described as located 7km from the center but it’s actually 54 km so we’ve payed 5000 nrp for a rickshaw who gently drove us to the place in the evening time. We had to cross the Chitwan National park escorted by the army and drove more than 1h after that to reach the place (total -> + 2h from Barathpur)
The worst part is that we’ve booked a jungle trek for 13 000 nrp (we finally refused to pay). We were supposed to be picked up by a truck to go to the National park and we were supposed to have 2 professional guides from there in the early morning but we didn’t. We directly left by feet from the Shanta Ghar to the deep jungle with Ramakanta, the owner, who calls himself a professional guide but he’s not, and his 19 years old nephew. We’ve been walking around 12 hours into the jungle, sometimes left behind, no track for walking. He doesn’t know any single thing (« spider doesn’t bite, they pee on us » or « this flower is a rodhodendron » when the flower is actually a white turmeric flower) and anyway, we didn’t even have the time to look around us that much because he wanted us to walk fast to reach some places we never saw at the end. But most of all, we’ve been walking into the jungle into the dark which wasn’t the plan and which was terribly dangerous an scary. We didn’t receive any apologies for that and he just explained ver badly that situation by a simple « it can happen sometimes » but he didn’t have any torches (we provided our phone for light), any real map, any phone numbers or rescue plan and tools. We ran out of water, came back full of blood because of the leeches…Here is a very small resume and after talking to many tourists and local people, we’ve decided to report him to the police.

This is an absolute dream of a stay. The location is a far out of the way but totally worth it. The house is in a traditional style, it’s a real home stay feeling, fantastic food and a peaceful stay surrounded by beautiful nature. The accommodation is simple but has everything you could need. It’s great value for money and I wouldn’t change a thing. Ramakanta and his family will go out of their way to make you feel at home and make sure you have a great stay. We also went on the walking safari with Ram and learnt so much about the animals the area and the culture, he loves to share experiences with his guests and his hospitality comes so clearly from his heart!

Amazing place! Definitely a wild-natural-traditional-uncontaminated area and facility; very traditional wooden structure, very big room, and the owners are very kind. The location it is a bit far from the airport and it is quiet safe; at night better to close doors and windows to avoid surprises (rhinos, elephants, and other wild animals move around freely). The owner and his family are very gentle and helpful; they've helped me to organize the jeep safari with take-away breakfast and lunch (very nice to have the bio meals in the safari park while admiring the animals). All food is made with own-cultivated products. Not a place for those looking for a cozy location (classical tourist hotels with all commodities).
The driver of the jeep was not very experienced, specifically for safaris. We stopped next to a rhino and the driver was speaking at the mobile phone; better not to challenge the wild animals, especially a rhino.

Purely organic stay🙂

Friendly and welcoming family. I enjoyed getting to know them. Quiet farm land surroundings. Hot shower. Western toilet. Farm animals. WiFi works fine. You can walk to the jungle perimeter. Traditional food served.
You are three hours from the city in cleared jungle now farm land. The bus journey is usually packed and bumpy! The meals at the property are extra (2-4 usd per meal) and usually all contain spice-there is nowhere else to eat nearby. I had tummy ache on leaving due to the spice. Make sure to bring snacks or your own food. The property could inform guests of the costs of food on arrival and needing to eat there. I thought it was a bit cheeky to charge for every cup of coffee, water etc offered to me during my stay. Felt like they want to milk the customer for every bit of cash and it ruined the feeling of the host being genuinely hospitable.

I had the best time of my life here at Shanta Ghar. The location is soo peaceful and beautiful. Our host was so kind and down-to-earth. We all loved the service here. We also had the best dinner experience under the stars. I have decided, if I were to visit Chitwan again someday, I'll definitely stay at Shanta Ghar again.

We came to this place with to high of an expectation due to the reviews on booking.com. The place is much more a 7 than a 10. The owner is trying very hard with limited resources and deserves a lot of credit for that. However expect basic accomodation in the middle of nowhere whereby you are totaly dependend on the family to provide you with even a cup of tea. Limited food options (no menu) that will take between one and two hours to get to you. After the initial disappointment we reset and had a good time. The surroundings are very pretty and the villages take you back in time.
The difference between the way the accomodation is presented on the site and what you actualy get.
