Always prefer to book into an independent hotel and was not disappointed. Second to none whiskey selection and great beers , Meals in the Resteraunt were good and very reasonably priced , The owner, Nadal and all staff where friendly and welcoming .
Would defiantly stay here again.
Due to staffing issues there was no hot breakfasts just continental but this was clearly advertised on site

The Hotel needs updating , the breakfast was poor .

Service for breakfast in the morning was good and parking was easy.
Broken window in room let a lot of noise and cold air in. Lots of movement that could be heard throughout the hotel.
Bed linen could smell fresher.
The owner also needs to ease on the listing of rules, key left in hotel, no leaving/returning after 11.30pm etc.

I do understand why you lock the doors at midnight. Maybe an external key could be a concideration.

The bar and young barman were cheerful and young barman/ waiter polite and efficient.
We were asked by the proprietor if we understood from Booking.com that there was no key to let ourselves in to the hotel after midnight and there was no night Porter. Fortunately we had no plans on our 2night stay to be out until after 12 midnight but we thought this was poor. There was a private party with disco on in the dining area on our second night which we were told about and we tolerated the noise from the disco in our room which was above the dining room. We had to leave the hotel for a short time on this evening and we could not use the reception door as a hotel guest as it is kept locked with the result that the only exit was through the dining/function room and bar where the private party was taking place. It was crowded with people sitting and standing in both these areas without face coverings being worn and it was difficult for us to manoeuvre our way out of the hotel through the party guests to the bar door to exit into the car park and back in again. As hotel guests we were surprised and shocked that the other door was not unlocked for guests to use during this private function.
The morning following the party we came down for breakfast and we’re directed to the self serve continental breakfast area and told we could sit anywhere in the dining room. on noticing that the area had not been cleaned up after the function from the night before, I asked if another seating area, the conservatory, was available for us to sit in. At this moment in time I was not sure if the person I was talking to was a member of staff or another hotel guest as she was sitting having breakfast with another person. I was told we could sit anywhere in the dining room. We sat down at a table nearest the window and as we were eating I could see that the table was dirty with drink stains and crumbs and that the floor was not cleared from the party. I took my napkin and wiped the part of the table we were sitting at and found the table to be filthy.

Co Tunstall breakfast was okay
Venue very dated Struggling to be viable?
6.0
Short walk to train station. Moderate walk to a few restaurants. Pleasant bar and patio.
Carpet was deplorably dirty. Twin beds instead of a double bed. Small bathroom. Poor heat regulation with excessive bedding.

The hotel had a wonderful home-from-home feeling with comfortable lounge area and intimate atmosphere. The hosts, Nidal and Ann, were welcoming, charming and helpful. Nidal's cooking was top class and his selection of scotch whiskies is mind-blowing.
We would have preferred a bath to a shower and the stairs to guest rooms are steep so not suitable for someone who has mobility issues. The location is on a busy road so better sound insulation in our bedroom would have helped.

Cost, wife of the owner, cleanliness & comfort. What I wanted.
Husband a bit unwelcoming. He’d phoned me & sent me a message (both rather terse) warning about the time of arrival but due to driving, I got neither .. but arrived in time. Everything seemed clean enough but white towels a bit grey, everything a little jaded.

Comfortable stay. Friendly staff. Nice and clean.
Check in times restricted.
