The gorgeous interior full of antiques and the delightful young women that run this beautiful B&B. We had a brief and very friendly chat with the owner. She filled us in on the history of the former private maternity hospital. We only stayed one night but had time to enjoy a bottle of wine in the gorgeous garden out front.
The room we were in was small but that’s to be expected. It was a hospital. Only one night was just fine.

We have stayed at Highfield house twice since December and in the same room. Each time we have arrived very late and the owner/staff were very accommodating by leaving out a key for us. The bed is large and extremely comfortable and dressed with lovely sheets and pillows. The room and bathroom are spotlessly clean. Very nice neat ensuite with good light and a nice shower. The room is a fabulous size and the curtains are sumptuous! The view down the garden is very pretty looking towards the river.
The room was much too hot and we couldn't get cold water from the cold tap! A couple of bottles of cold drinking water and bed side glasses would have been nice. The sound from the room above is plain to hear and really should be addressed. For the price I feel that, as breakfast is not included, then a breakfast voucher for a local business or a plate of pastries/ fresh fruit etc should be included. There are tea and coffee making facilities but on this occasion, no tea spoons and rudimentary milk and sugar sachets. Having stayed before, I knew this and we bought mugs from home and fresh milk with us.

The house was rustic, exceptionally well presentex and inviting. Bed was very comfortable, however pillows were weighted and heavy.
Pillows were a little on the heavy side.

Beautiful location, along the river, the castle, the walkways.

Exceptionally helpful staff, beautiful building close to town. Would stay again

Great location & the house was very well presented.
It said it was self catering but had no facilities for this. Shower was very poor, although was offered to use the shower in another room. Was not given any information about the property on arrival, just handed the keys. No communication when leaving either. We needed to lift up the bed as something rolled under there & there was dust & a few items from a previous visitor. We did enjoy our stay and with the little niggles sorted it would have been great. Breakfast would be a good option too…

This is a beautiful old home, tastefully decorated. Rooms are comfortable--our bathroom had a vaulted ceiling with skylight, which was nice. Great location in town. We did not realize this is not a bed & breakfast (our fault), so be aware of that.

The property is gorgeous and the room was well appointed. The location was perfect - walking distance to Trim Castle and easy walk to town.
Really nothing - the queen bed that we slept in was up against a wall, so if I got out of bed, I had to crawl to the end or over my husband, but a minor thing unless you had mobility issues.

Location great. Very elegant house
Despite the rads being on & very heavy drapes, the room was freezing cold

great location
good parking facilities
easy check in n check out
Rooms have an ‘old world’ feel which is fine but high dusting is required in my room, dusty in places, pelmets all need laundering, no toiletries for shower or bath. No option of breakfast during my stay. Three big beds in the room little room to open n close blinds etc.
Trying to plug in chargers n kettle is all a struggle with heavy lockers n furniture blocking sockets.
It all just lacks attention to detail. I note that basic feedback from other reviews are not followed up as I experienced some of them.
This suggests that the place continues to be booked up and there’s no pressure to address the issues. It appeared there wasn’t a lot of people staying the night I was there but the few that were there were noisy so I reckon when busy the place could be less than quiet.

Our room was lovely and very comfortable, loved the bath and Netflix that was a very welcomed surprise.
The only very small complaint was there was no shower gel and a bit dusty!
Otherwise we had a lovely stay in the Highfield guesthouse and will recommend to family & friends😊

Wonderful old hotel with excellent parking and perfect location for visiting Edinburgh without having to pay for Edinburgh lodging. Very close to the train into town. Wonderful staff.
Food was average.

Geraldine was a lovely host, very friendly, informative and accommodating of all my needs. The room was very clean and comfy and I enjoyed my stay. Excellent location, right in the centre of the town, close to the sites, shops, cafés and ricer walks.
The room I was in was on the road side by a main junction, it didn't really bother me and for the price of the room I can't complain. But if you're a light sleeper perhaps requests a back room.

Comfortable, convenient and very good value. Free parking and handy wi-fi.
TV a bit wonky but I wasn't there to watch TV. No complaints.

The location is very nice and central, free car parking available
Second time l stayed here. Unfortunately this time the room wasn t very warm (radiators working properly), but there were lots of drafts, specially into the toilet, which had no a heavy curtain, just a very tiny one

I didn t have my breakfast as with my partner decided to go somewhere else.
The room was very nice and big, with a big tv and a bit toilet. 'Unfortunately' the shower wasn t big enough for the two of us, but was bigger compared to a normal shower.
Lovely place to stay in, quiet and easy to find
Only thing l noticed is that there are lots of stairs (even to access the toilet. Only 2 steps), and l m not sure if it could be recommended for people with disabilities in walking/on a wheelchair, l would suggest to ask it, if someone has special needs.
