About this cottage rental
An idyllic retreat in the heart of one of the Isle of Wight's prettiest villages, Grebe Cottage was completely renovated in early 2014 and now offers a stylish holiday experience. The cottage is directly opposite the famous Bonchurch Pond, and a short walk from the quiet sandy beach at Monks Bay. The excellent Bonchurch Inn is within walking distance, and for a wider choice of amenities the charming seaside resort of Ventnor is a 15-20 minute walk. The property is set back from the road and presents a very pretty frontage. A generous entrance hall with hanging space leads to the comfortable main lounge, stylishly decorated, with Smart TV and audio systems and a pretty open fireplace. A separate dining room is furnished in old pine. The kitchen is newly fitted in a white Shaker style, with gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and Nespresso machine. Off the kitchen is a sun porch, ideal for morning coffee, and a utility room with washing machine and downstairs WC. There is an enclosed terraced garden to the rear of the property with outside dining facilities. Upstairs, the master bedroom enjoys excellent views of the pond and has a king size double bed. The second bedroom has two single beds that can be zipped together (please advise at time of booking). The spacious luxury bathroom, newly renovated, has a powerful shower, corner bath, bidet and under floor heating. Grebe Cottage has been expertly renovated by Distinctive Designs of Ventnor, and is decorated in subtle colours from the Zoffany range.
The South Wight is very special. Slightly removed from the main tourist beaches, the Ventnor Undercliff enjoys a Mediterranean microclimate. Exotic plants can grow -you will find an international collection in Ventnor Botanic Gardens, Ventnor was developed in Victorian times as a fashionable seaside resort, and there is much fine seaside architecture. After suffering a period of decline during the 1960s and 70s it is now resurgent, and enjoys a thriving arts scene, quirky shops, and provides the full seaside experience in an uncrowded environment. The Undercliff nestles beneath St Boniface Down, which offers excellent down land walking with fabulous sea and rural views.
Bonchurch is one of the Island's prettiest villages. Mostly constructed of the local stone and dating from medieval times, it was developed from about 1800 as a retreat for the wealthy, with large houses, villas and cottages, artfully positioned in generous gardens. The famous Pond is a natural feature that was developed in Victorian times into the wonderful village centrepiece it is today. The village is close to but sheltered from the sea, and enjoys sandy and quiet beaches. A stay in Bonchurch is lovely at any time of year. There is always something to do, from watching the ducklings on the pond in early summer to the fabulous autumn colours to dramatic coastal walks in winter.

3rd year we have rented this cottage for our trip to the festival. Brilliant as always .

The property was as advertised and was extremely well cleaned, bright and spacious for the 4 of us and our cat! Communication with Rita was really good and reassuring. In all, we enjoyed all aspects of the cottage and would recommend it to friends and family.

From the outset, this property appealed. Its location opposite Bonchurch Pond with its terrapins, heron, ducks and carp suggested it might be rather busy, but in mid-June, we had no problem with road noise at all. Parking was fine, though we did have to move the car away from the cottage between 9 am and 5 pm. As we were usually out or there was space further down the same road, this didn't present a problem. The cottage itself is beautifully appointed inside and out, was very clean and there were some lovely touches including a bottle of wine and a bar of chocolate. We would highly recommend Grebe Cottage and fully intend to return ourselves sometime!

Nothing really lets it down. It has everything one could wish for.

Peaceful few days in lovely quaint cottage opposite the village pond. The cottage was well equipped close to the beach and all amenities.

From the moment we walked through the door we felt at home. The cottage looks tiny from the front but opens up as you go in and was the perfect size for the 4 of us. 3 adults, one child and one dog. The cottage itself was very well equipped and with a lovely patio area out the back. We loved the location opposite the pond and a short walk to the beautiful dog friendly, Monks Bay. We also walked up the steep steps to Bonchurch Inn. Worth a visit, set around a beautiful courtyard and serving lovely Italian food. I would highly recommend a stay here and would love to return.

We had a very nice stay at this lovely cottage. Bonchurch is a beautiful village and a good starting point for hikes, walks to the beach or other trips. The only thing we missed as a family was a garden to relax or let the kids play. However, we used our time then for great trips instead.

Great place and a great location

This cottage is almost perfect, being spacious, light, and well-equipped.
The slight, very slight, defect being no view from the suntrap courtyard. However, it's a short walk to the sea front and village green so not really an issue. The pond opposite is also a pleasure: teeming with life.
Great base for walking straight from the door - the coast path to Shanklin and up onto Boniface Down.
The Bonchurch Inn is a lovely spot for a pint, but is currently up for sale - hopefully the new owners will keep it going and keep its character.

Simply the best place to stay in Isle of Wight. Brilliant beds great shower lovely kitchen, love the big window at the front and the nice garden. The patio is a good sun trap for sun bathing. We loved feeding the ducks in the pond, amazing unspoilt English countryside. Whenever we go back to Isle of Wight, Glebe Cottage is our first choice every time. Wonderful. Thank you

This is a lovely little property, we were all very comfortable there. It provides all of the facilities you would need and was nice and clean when we arrived. The location is pretty and very quiet. Its a shame some businesses have closed during Covid and not re-opened. It would have been nice to wander along the road to the cafe some days and explore one or 2 shops but unfortunately all the village has now is a garage, a welders, 2 churches and a pub.
Bonchurch is a beautiful place though, right on the coast and ideal for those that enjoy walking and cycling. We walked into Ventnor a few times and along the coast path to Shanklin one day

We loved our stay at Grebe Cottage and can't wait to visit again.
Location: The village of Bonchurch is idyllic, with a fabulous pub serving great Italian food. There are no other amenities in the village but Ventnor is only a short 15/20 min walk away and you will find everything you need there.
The cottage: Beautiful, with good size rooms and enough outdoor space. The photos do not do it justice. Has all you need. The wine and chocolate were a lovely touch.
Other: The pond opposite is lovely and full of ducks, fish and terrapins. There is even a heron that visits. The area is really clean. The coastal path is beautiful and we loved the walk into Ventnor. It's longer but well worth it. From 1st May parking is restricted opposite tproperty and there is parking either inside of this area, although it does get busy as there is car garage that uses the street parking. One day we had to park 3 or 4 mins away. You can park in the restricted are though for an hr and between 6 pm and 8 am.
We would definitely go back as the cottage is great and so is the location. Host is also really helpful and quick to reply.

Grebe Cottage is very well appointed and spacious, and a comfortable base from which to visit any part of the island, or simply chill out. We were there before the summer parking restrictions came into effect and had no problems parking over the road, alongside the pretty pond. It’s a steepish walk up to the Bonchurch Inn - well worth it for a friendly welcome and tasty meal. All in all, a great place to stay.

A home from home!
We fitted into the cottage really quickly and the little nooks and crannies were perfect for ours needs from housing our little dogs to drying out our soggy shoes after a downpour! Probably the comfiest bed I'm stayed in on any holiday and made us smile to see the pond life every morning!

Parking difficult and house rather cold
Although I had specifically asked about parking and been re-assured, this in fact was very difficult. There was rarely a space near the house.
We were unable to turn the central heating on. There was no contact telephone number in the house instruction book, so we could not contact the owner for help. Although there were enough logs for one evening there were no fire lighters or kindling. We were quite cold.
There was no ‘welcome pack’ although other people had mentioned wine etc. So all a bit bleak when we arrived.
In view of these short comings, some sort of rebate would be nice.

Lovely place in Bonchurch
Cosy comfortable home from home with everything you could possibly need. We had a lovely stay and would recommend to others because it’s a wonderful chocolate-box village location minutes from the sea and a short walk to all that Ventnor has to offer. The cottage has everything you could want to make it a comfortable and relaxing stay.
