The cosy living room between the kitchen and dining area
The beds were comfy
Overall the property was a bit tired
Not as clean as we would expect
The floor in my bedroom was still wet in places - suggesting that the mop was too wet and the water used not hot enough
No bins in bedrooms or toilet
Dust on floor indicates only superficial cleaning (I used to be a hospital cleaner)
Shower screen in downstairs shower worn to point of it not providing an effective barrier /not working

This cottage was really clean and in a quiet spot with lovely views the cottage has three large bedrooms there is a good size dining table and chairs
This is a neglected home rotten windows some don’t open ivy growing onto windows
Very old worn unpleasant carpet flooring
Uncomfortable and mismatched seating
Falling down outhouse am rusted chairs make the front garden awful

Location was great. Accommodation met needs - well appointed and equipped. Really comfy beds - slept brilliantly. Cosy.
A few small things…..
Bedding felt a bit synthetic. One big kitchen drawer was loose. No small cooking knife. Only one tea towel.

great location
stairs are very steep

Great location and a very quirky cottage that had all necessary facilities and was cosy and warm. Ideal for 6 adults and a dog. A good shower room downstairs and & nice large bathroom upstairs with 3 large bedrooms.
Unfortunately the back bedroom double bed had an old spring mattress that needs replacing or a mattress topper as the springs could be felt and very uncomfortable. I would also suggest a hand towel should be provided in each WC.

Central location to walk to town
Had heating
Mould in property on walls!
Damp smell in property upon entry! Should not be letting property in this condition.
Very unhappy due to health effects of damp and mould.
Broken shower door dangerous in shower cubicle which is behind kitchen on ground floor, off the track so can fall on you at anytime!
Very steep narrow stair case, made of slippery gloss painted wood, one adult slipped once and dogs slipped down steps. Not suitable for older, disabled, or unaccompanied young children in our opinion.
Pathway access to property on completely unlit, slippery moss path, which is pitch black at night!
Window off lock latch so apparent fixed half flew open when opening the lever half side.
No allocated parking, have to try and get parking at car park off Broad Street, short walk away.
Beds old and springs poking into body
Bedding very old and bit smelly
No bath mats or hooks in bathroom or ground floor shower
One bin in entire property
Upstairs only a bath no shower and difficult to shower in there due to location of taps
Loose/damaged toilet seat
Broken lever in bath to turn to shower use
Kitchen hob extractor not working
No extra bin bags provided
Old plastic kettle and hairdryer is melted on tips
There was no care attention or consideration of guests in this cottage. Very disappointed.
Urgently requires improvements for safety and health re mould, steps, damp.
No contact number provided for any issues or concerns
Paid approx £900 for 6 nights. Check out 10a.m. Check in 4p.m.

The city was lovely.
There were lots of flies and spiders. I wondered if I should switch to staying in the car. Towels were damp and smelly. I was terribly tired to kill the flies.

Great position & very quiet. Comfortable beds.
Very steep, narrow wooden stairs, 95year old felt very anxious.

The cottage was more spacious than appears in the photos so there was plenty of room to eat, relax in the lounge and use the kitchen without feeling cramped. Decor was neutral and tasteful. We really liked the layout too. The heating had been put on in readiness for our arrival, for which we were grateful as it was a cold day. It was also peaceful - no noise whatsoever during our stay. The location was great - it was quiet but a very short walk indeed into the centre of Hay or down to the river. Also right next to the Globe if you want to pop in there too, which we did, on the way home after dinner at the delightful Chapters on Friday evening.
It was great having a front garden where (weather allowing) you can sit and relax, and we also appreciated the use of the Globe garden immediately in front of the cottage to allow our dog to have a short wander about between his longer walks.
The downstairs shower and loo did smell strongly of damp as other reviewers have commented.
We had difficulty operating the old-style electric hob and the rings took a very long time to heat up. The markings on the knobs had been rubbed off over time so we couldn't see if they were on or not. At one point they were all on and because we were unaware of that, eventually the entire hob surround became extremely hot. This was an aspect of the accommodation that we felt needed an upgrade.
While the beds were comfortable per se, a standard double is narrow for a couple especially if you're used to a king size at home.
The little garden at the back of the house is not completely fenced off so we did not let our dog out there (but the yard at the front was fine for him to sniff round and have a wee). Clearly someone else with a dog had also used the Globe garden, which was very quiet throughout our stay, and not cleaned up after it though :-/ and there were a couple of areas where there was broken glass which dogs could easily walk on.
Despite these niggles, though, we really enjoyed staying here and would visit again as the positives outweighed the negatives for sure - but for a longer stay a better hob would be key.

the property was comfortable and surprisingly more spacious than it appears in the photos, the location is also perfect for getting around as it’s fairly central but also in a quiet enough position
only minor issue we had was that we couldn’t connect to the wifi, however not being linked up to the internet was no bad thing for a weekend away.

The accommodation was cosy (which was great as it was cold), the beds were comfy, the property was clean and the directions were helpful. There was an open fire and a woodburner, neither of which we were expecting and which we would have thought were selling points. There were two bathrooms, which would be great if there were several of you staying in the property.
The property felt cared for but tired and unloved.
In the kitchen - The fridge door had no shelving - this meant the fridge space was limited as there was nowhere other than the salad tray to stand bottles. The fridge was small for a property for six guests and there was no small freezer in it. The shower door was missing some hinges and was therefore very difficult to operate. There were no instructions for cooker, cooker hood etc. - we struggled a great deal to use the oven and never got the cooker hood to work.
In the downstairs bathroom - The shower tray didn't drain well at all, meaning that showers had to be extremely swift - it was impossible to have time to wash hair. (Fortunately there was a shower attachment on the big bath in the second bathroom.)
In the lounge - The lounge only had three seats (a small two-seater sofa and an armchair) and a large footstool for sitting on, and no space for more furniture - this would have been an issue with six people staying. The lounge fireplace was largely covered by an unsightly board - unsure why.
General - We rang the number provided for the cottage manager to discuss some of the issues and left a voicemail - 72 hours later we've still heard nothing. Little things were missing - tin opener, pictures and / or mirrors in bedrooms - or tired - chipped kitchen work surface, only one pint glass but several sherry size glasses, integral door for washing machine missing.
The restaurant mentioned had VERY limited opening hours - fine if you're aware in advance.

The location was excellent - really close to the town and to the river for walking the dogs.
the property was spacious for 4 of us and 2 dogs.
We loved it so much we have rebooked for next year!

Couldn't fault the cottage or the location. A major issue for me was the parking situation, most particularly the location of the free car park. For a non-disabled person I would suggest this would not be a problem. I walk with a stick so could manage the short distance between the car park, the cottage and the village centre. However, there is a very steep slope to negotiate when leaving the car park, and I found this particularly difficult. I do recognise, however, that there are no alternative parking spaces, nor could there be, it is a small village after all.

Cooker hob not working properly.
Poor furnishings in lounge
Noisy upstairs as no carpets or rugs

Great location, close to the town, shops and pubs and also very close to gorgeous river walks. Everything you need provided. Good size bedrooms.
Steep narrow stairs but this is an old cottage so to be expected.

Everything else!
The carpets were so rough, they really rubbed our feet.

Lovely cottage, with 3 very comfortable double rooms, and all the facilities you'd need. Great location within easy walking distance of all the shops, pubs and restaurants of Hay-on-Wye. Even the neighbours were very friendly and helpful.
Nothing to say here...

Location, proximity to a nice pub garden.
The hob is terrible. None of the hot plates heat up properly. Took 20 mins to fry an egg.
Not enough sofas/armchairs furniture the 6 of us, even though it’s supposed to accommodate 6 people!

Fabulous little cottage in a perfect location
Very comfortable beds and plenty of towels and extra linen if needed
The furniture in the lounge area was not as comfortable as it could have been.
Not enough seating for 4 people.
9.0 / 10.0
The location, space and cottage itself, handy extra bathroom downstairs. Ideal for families with dogs. Stairs a bit steep for anyone with mobility issues but I think the advert says this anyway.
No condiments or loo roll (minor things) but would have brought with us if we'd known.

Lovely cottage in a great location, only a short walk to the town centre & river. Well equipped & very comfortable beds.
The only problem we encountered is that the cottage sleeps 6 but there's only 4 seats in the lounge so you can't all sit together in the evening unless you sit round the table in the dining room. The only other negative thing I would say is that it's very difficult to find & this isn't made any easier by the fact that there's no sign on the house! We had to go by the photo & even when we were inside we weren't really sure if it was the right house until we saw the welcome note on the table!

Great little cottage in excellent location for visiting this lovely town. It has everything you needed .. very very comfy beds, good kitchen facilities, and was clean and cozy. We would definitely book again if in the area.
The property was great for what we needed and paid for but does need a little TLC. The only things I would mention are that the shower downstairs is small and not much room to move in!! The stairs are steep - but fine if you are careful. Also - it is hard to find - for future bookings it’s a small passageway near to The Globe.
