About this cabin rental
The Kist is an ideal way to get away from it all. It is set in 6.5 acres of garden and grounds and surrounded by fields. It is entirely self-contained and no-one will visit unless you invite them. Our house is 100m down the garden from The Kist. We work from home so will usually be around if you need us, but otherwise will leave you to enjoy your stay. It is 3.5 miles from the nearest village (Balfron).
The Kist - an historic term for a linen box or treasure chest - is a stunning contemporary lodge set in private grounds in a beautiful rural location. A large deck area and a panoramic window in the main room allow visitors to enjoy the country experience whatever the weather. You may well find deer grazing in the garden of a morning.
The Kist is set in glorious countryside, but is close enough to Glasgow to enjoy all the cultural and shopping attractions of a big city. Some of Scotland's most spectacular countryside, including Loch Lomond, the Trossachs and the West Highland Way, are nearby. Historic Stirling is within easy reach and the Castle is definitely worth a look. Both Edinburgh and Perth are about an hour away by car.
The stylish glass fronted open plan living area includes a fully fitted kitchen complete with integrated fridge freezer, dishwasher, wine chiller and washing machine.
The large decked area to the front is the perfect way to enjoy sunny evenings and yes, there is a barbecue if eating al fresco is your thing.
There are two double bedrooms, both en-suite, with one set up as a twin room. The master bedroom has a "P" shaped bath and Mira shower. The twin room has a Coram quad shower and roomy walk in wardrobe. It is set up with twin beds.
The modern lodge offers all the advantages of a new home, in a lovely setting. Practical, cosy and stylish, you'll love being 'Kist'.

Lovely short break. Cannot fault the property.

Perfect stay with our dog-exploring and walking (Ben Lomond and West Highland Way), swimming in the Loch at Milarrochy Bay and attending the Open at Troon.

We were a party of 3 people aged 67,71, and 91.
The property was very well equipped for our needs. Beautiful location, very quiet and peaceful. The only thing that could be added is a ramp or step at the back for my those with limited mobility. All in all an excellent stay and we hope to return.

What a truly wonderful place a real privilege to stay at The Kist

The Kist is one of the most beautiful accommodations, we‘ve ever been. Surrounded by fields & hills, with a lot of animals around you, it is very quiet. On the other hand the next greater town (Stirling) is not far away and from there you can travel by train very easy and fast to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Stirling is also worth visiting. The accommodation is very nice and equipped and Ilona and her husband are very helpful landlords. I hope, we will come back one day!

nice and chilled stay needs a bit of diy around the outside

Loved being out of the city. Quiet, beautiful, saw deer, hares, lots of sheep, and heard birdsong from sunup to down.

The Kist is in a very quiet rural area located down a windy narrow road. If you desire a beautiful two bedroom cottage with a great kitchen this is a great space for you. We spent 2 nights early April when all of the area fields are sprinkled the sheep and their newborn lambs. We explored the acreage the Kist sits on with beautiful views of the fields and hills, listening to the lambs calling for their moms. So peaceful, serene, yet close enough to a few must see sights such as Stirling Castle and Loch Lomond. Know that restaurants in the villages close by are very limited for evening meals. Suggest making food in the evening at the Kist after a day of adventure. Well appointed kitchen with large fridge/freezer, oven, cooktop. Bedrooms are on opposite ends of home which is nice for quiet and privacy. Would highly recommend if you need tranquility and don't mind driving to attractions.

We spent a wonderful couple of days in this lovely property and would highly recommend it. Iona was an incredibly friendly and responsive host. There is lots to do within a short drive of the house - but the location is so beautiful it was an effort to tear ourselves away!

The Kist was a great place to get away for a few days. Everything worked as it should and it was very comfortable. Distance to shops wasn’t too far but a trek non the less. It was disappointing to not be able to let the dogs run free as there is plenty of land and a fenced/gated area at the back would have been better. All in all, the stay was lovely and relaxing. If I was going back with just my wife, it would be okay, but not with the dogs.

We spent a wonderful week in the kist. The cottage is very cosy and the location ideal - whether for walking/hiking or a visit to Edinburgh or Glasgow. We were also very lucky with the weather - a week of sunshine.

My family had a very relaxing stay at the Kist and served as a nice place to stay while visiting Loch Lomond and Stirling’s attraction such as the Kelpies and Sterling jail and castle.
The Kist was perfect for my family thank you.

Wonderful location, good views, private outdoor space, modern and spacious. Helpful owner.
4.9
The Kist is brilliant. Really modern accomodation in the most beautiful setting. The house has everything you could think of. Perfect location to access the surrounding countryside but also easy into Edinburgh. We will definitely be back!
4.9
The property is a fully equipped bungalow style home on a big piece of land. The only noise is the animals flying, crawling or walking around. So quite.
The single track can be a challenge with oncoming traffic and the lack of indication that someone is approaching.
Some nice conversations with the owner and additional supplies of towels or (bed / kitchen) linnen.
Overall a nice starting point to explore the surrounding area from Fort William (with Ben Nevis mountain), Glencoe, Falkirk (Kelpies, the Wheel, SeaLife, Birds of prey) until Edinburgh (with its castle and the Royal Mile). A very large Tesco supermarked in Stirling is about 20min away. All in all money well spent.
4.9
The Kist has a super layout and feels spacious and private.
The kitchen was fully equiped and bed really confy.
Although sited on a single track road it's proximity to Loch Lomand, Srirling and even Glasgow was ideal.
I have alreadt recommended it to a friend.

Could not fault the accommodation, very clean and comfortable, everything we needed was provided. Exterior decking in need of some TLC, the website photo is a bit out of date. Rough single tracks to get to the Kist, be aware. Enjoyed our stay.

Set in stunning grounds with beautiful scenery, The Kist was exactly want we wanted to get away and enjoy the peace and quiet. We took our German Shepherd dog who just loved the space. Lovely hosts who live nearby and Iona was there to assist with anything we wanted. The proprty has everything you need, including a wine cooler which was well used!. Had a wonderful few days and will be back, thank you.

Hidden and quiet, the Kist is a two bedroom/two bathroom house situated in a rural area! We enjoyed our stay so much! Everything you need is here as a base to explore or just relax on a holiday.
Iona was very helpful before our arrival with instructions and directions, and when we first arrived as I needed help to operate the washer.
Thanks for a great stay Iona! Would not hesitate to stay at the Kist again!

the property is as advertised. Clean, cozy and quiet. The only noise come from the sheep, chickens and cows.
