The new refurb is great, food and dining still excellent . Noise however … see below
I’ll start by saying every other stay has been great at the Moorland. We were in room 114 and I’m afraid the noise was awful. The plumbing means you can hear taps from the surrounding rooms. The people upstairs walked around constantly and made the ceiling creek, (btw I am not a light sleeper) and the people below had a dog that barked constantly until about 10pm and started at 6am. I was there working (as a musician I got back late - so being woken at 6 not great) my other half came as he was recovering from surgery. I creeped in at 1.30am and the dog started up then also.
The reception staff just seemed to look sheepish when this was mentioned and apologised but I’d expect at least a gesture for returning guests. I also filled in feedback with the hotel direct and asked to be contact with them and heard nothing. I always give a right of reply before leaving a bad review . At the end of the day you go to a hotel to get a restful sleep. I’m not sure we can stay here again as there is no guarantee of a good nights sleep. Luckily there were two of us to share the driving home 4.5 hours as we were so tired .

4.3
Splendid location with real character and very kind staff.
Nothing to dislike
4.3
Location and condition of property very good. Nice welcome. Nice gardens
Food did not meet expectations. Evening meal was OK but not to the standard expected for the price. Cheese mousse was minute, you could have done much better with this. Lamb was overcooked and lukewarm. Veg iffy. Dessert OK (sticky toffee pud ) bit over priced and v simple. My wife's fillet steak was tough. (Even if it was free ) Why did we need steak knives for lamb and fillet ? We soon found out.
Nice selection for Breakfast, but, Bacon had been kept hot too long and overcooked. Sausage was anaemic. Tomato looked as if it had been under warming grill for an hour and was consequently dry and shrivelled. Cheap baked beans.
Is black pudding still fashionable ?
No we didn't complain at the time as we were with friends and didn't want to embarrass them.
Surely service charges are out of date and smack of class distinction and almost insulting to the staff in this day and age. The best tip we can give is by recommendation and returning, sadly we won't be doing either

Location is amazing ! Gardens pretty and accessible .
The only lounge was being renovated and so no comfy area to relax with our friends .

The little extras like lavender spray and cards in your room

The location very good with town centre with parking. Great hospitality, rooms very comfortable, care taken over details. Breakfast delicious all made with local produce.
4.3
Our expectations were exceeded. The location was ideal and the whole premises felt freshly refurbished. Our room was spacious and welcoming with gentle music playing as we arrived.
Not a complaint but a suggestion. The room and especially the bathroom was very hot. Some form of thermostat to the towel rail could be beneficial to comfort and running costs.
4.3
Friendly staff, ample parking, lovely comfortable room with great facilities, excellent food in the restaurant and a very tasty breakfast. Would highly recommend.

The room exceeded my expectations, large and comfortable. Excellent restaurant, lovely breakfast, and great location for exploring Dartmoor.
Nothing at all.

The location is right on the doorstep of Dartmoor. Pleasant staff in all areas of the hotel. Good quality food on both the bar menu and the restaurant menu. The furnishings are comfortable and not worn. The hotel is well maintained.
Room 203 is not accessible from the lift, if you have mobility issues then let the hotel know.

Everything! Amazing place to stay.
4.3
Comfy bed, lovely rain shower, fridge with complimentary water, Dyson hairdryer.
Room was very hot, had to keep window open and fan on full.
Slow breakfast service on second morning of stay.
4.3
Great facilities, lovely breakfast.
That we didn't book more nights.
4.3
Great room facilities, great breakfast in lovely location
Sorry they could not accommodate a large dinner booking due to a wedding being held same time in the hotel

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room we were eventually given was spacious and clean with a lovely view.
We booked a deluxe room but the room we were allocated was very poor and looked directly over the car park. We were then offered a room on the "dog floor" and were eventually given the standard of room we had booked and paid for. However the room was very hot, the bed rock hard and the duvet so thick we were sweltering so we didn't get much sleep. Also the food was not really 4 star standard. The choice in the restaurant was limited and breakfast was mediocre ("fresh fruit" was apples or a banana and the fruit salad was rancid).

Located just a short walk from Haytor rocks, the moorland Hotel is an excellent base to explore Dartmoor. The hotel is very comfortable with friendly and efficient staff. The room was well equiped and even had a fan which was useful as the south facing room got warm during an unusual warm spell for October.
Nothing.

Wonderful setting. Comfortable lounge areas.
Limited food menu although food served was good.
4.3
Fab, interesting menu.
4.3
Location, staff, food, brilliant. Best ever.
Our dog friendly room had everything that you could wish for EXCEPT room to manoeuvre. It was almost the smallest room we have ever had to cope with. Noises of chairs and walking from the room above were surprising. This was OK, for one person with a dog but with two and a dog really difficult.
4.3
Nice atmosphere, great staff and nice food
All was fine
4.3
The location is fabulous
The staff were outstanding, so polite. We have stayed in many hotels and I have to say that your staff really are a credit to the hotel.
Room was far too hot even without heating on.
4.3
Breakfast has a good choice and cooked well
I think the room next door must have complained about my hairdryer at 9.am because I was then given a Dyson drier to use . I also heard their television which they had on quite late but I didn’t make a fuss
4.3
All the staff we interacted with were exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable. The evening meal and the staff in the conservatory area were of a particularly high standard.
Breakfast was good but other people who arrived after us were served more quickly and the buffet ran out of at least one item (fruit salad) about halfway through the breakfast period, with no more being available
4.3
Fabulous location with great views of Hay Tor. Very dog friendly with a large garden and field. The staff were all lovely and very helpful. The food was good too.
Nothing!
4.3
Good food, amazing location right on the Moor, lovely staff
Bed could be more comfortable, and I thought it would be nice to have a separate bar area instead of having to order via the restaurant.
4.3
Breakfast and location were fine
Bedroom was a little noisy with overhead feet!
We were surprised to find scaffolding was erected after we arrived - though no intrusion occurred
4.3
Great location and friendly helpful staff
Grounds were very good
Dinner service ended quite early at 8pm and could have gone on later
