Casa do Alto is a very large house (750m2) which is located in a 10,000 m² property which includes a large swimming pool (15 x 7.5 m) and 2 outdoor kitchens with barbecue. It is divided into 3 totally separate apartments.
This listing is for the top floor apartment (180 m2 + balcony 7,3 m2): with 2 large suites (each with double bedroom + living room with double sofa bed + full en siute bathroom); 1 additional full bathroom with Jacuzzi; 1 living room with dining area, full kitchen and library. The library can easily be converted into a 3rd bedroom with a large king size sofa bed using screens. Folding beds are available on demand.

Adaúfe is a small village but has all the necessary amenities (pharmacy, health center, analyst (blood, urine, etc.), ATM, gas station, hairdresser, supermarket, cafes, bakery, butcher, etc.). It also has 2 large shopping centers 5 km away, and Braga (3rd Portuguese city) is about 5 km from Casa do Alto. Porto International Airport is only 50 minutes away.
You will need a car to get around, but there is a frequent bus service to Braga and local taxis are also available. Casa do Alto has plenty of parking space.
Casa do Alto is an old renovated stone country house, on a farm, which is nestled in the hillside of the Cavado River Valley. This is not far from the campus of the University of Minho. It has exquisite views from all sides and part of the ancient Roman road to Braga is right at the back gate. The "eira" in stone (or patio where cereals dried) is one of the largest in the Minho region (484 m2) and many memorable events have taken place there.
Casa do Alto is he perfect place to stay as a base to visit this region of Portugal or just relax in the property itself (1 hectare) either in the garden or in the wooded area with oaks, cork oaks, sweet chestnuts among many other varieties of trees. It has 2 outdoor kitchens with barbecue and a large secluded private pool with a magnificent view of the orchard which includes a wide variety of fruit trees such as orange, lemon, mandarin, khaki, apple, pear, fig, cherry, kiwi, grapes, apricot, peach, plum and many others.
There is so much to see around the Minho region and as Casa do Alto is almost in the center of this area, it is an ideal base for this part of the country. Braga (3rd largest city in Portugal), is the largest city near Casa do Alto (5 km), and is an exciting city with many historical sites to visit, such as the oldest cathedral in Portugal. An excellent local and international gastronomy can be enjoyed in the many restaurants available in and around Braga, with a wide range of exquisite wines of which Portugal is renowned.
There is also a "tourist triangle" consisting of the three famous sanctuaries of "Bom Jesus", "Sameiro" and "Stª Marta" which are worth a visit.

The house is high up in the mountains over steep streets. The Caso do Alto on Google Maps slightly deviates from the actual entrance. Use the coordinates given by the owner instead. You arrive at a gate which the owners will open for you. We were warmly greeted by Tania, and her family, and the dog (which they kept on a leash during our stay). The upper apartment, which is next to the owners, has wonderful views from the small balcony. The rooms are very spacious, and they are all airconditioned (although we hardly used it due to the cool breeze in the evenings). The pool is very large, and open to the owners and the renters of the second apartment. It is some stairs away from the apartment.
We had a wonderful bbq at the poolside. In conclusion, we had a wonderful stay, and would definitely stay here again.

Amazin place. Great space, nice pool, very comfortable for a family of until 6 people. Exceptional attention from Mario and his son. We really felt as if we were in our own house.

One of our favourite places in Portugal!!
Seriously this place is nothing but amazing. The hosts were so kind, friendly and always willing to provide any advice we needed.
The apartment itself has a fantastic location. You are close enough to braga if you need anything but you truly get a country experience. The place had everything we needed plus more. It was roomy and spacious. The pool was a great way to cool off and spend some time.
Highly recommend this place to anyone.

Beautiful house with a great view
We spent a wonderful week at Casa do Alto. The very spacious house and the surroundings are exceptionally beautiful, the pool is even larger than we thought. A very very special place! Margaret and Mario are great hosts and could not have been kinder. We felt right at home and are already checking our dates for next year. Thank you for a fabulous holiday!

Quiet and peaceful
Great place to unwind. Large pool with BBQ, plenty of pool loungers etc. Slight walk to the pool area, but well lit at night. The owners were lovely and very helpful; very knowledgable about what’s going on in the locality. The accommodation was comfortable and well equipped. Great place to chill out.

The house was fantastic. Super luxury and had absolutely anything we needed. We were 3 families sharing 2 floors. We have arrived in the afternoon and they have offered a lunch that was prepared for us, great surprise! House is authentic and beautiful, with all the amenities that you wish for. Our kid and us enjoyed big pool with amazing views . It’s one of the bay places we have stayed in!

L'appartement où nous logions et spacieux, magnifique et très bien entretenu. La propriété est paradisiaque avec sa piscine, son verger et sa vue splendide sur la vallée. De plus, la propriété est proche des commerces et de nombreux sont à visiter dans les parages, ce qyi en fait un point d'encrage parfait pour visiter cette jolie région.
Enfin, nos hôtes, Magaret et Mario, parlent très bien français et sont toujours de bons conseils pour les visites, restaurants et loisirs....

Amazing house!
The house was fantastic. Super luxury and had absolutely anything we needed. We were 3 families sharing 2 floors. We have arrived in the afternoon and they have offered a lunch that was prepared for us, great surprise! House is authentic and beautiful, with all the amenities that you wish for. Our kid and us enjoyed big pool with amazing views . It’s one of the bay places we have stayed in!

Lovely apartment with gorgeous views, huge bedrooms and a comfortable living and dining area. Close to many towns, historic sites, restaurants and shopping.
We had a wonderful stay , enjoyed all the amenities such as barbecues and a large pool. Our hosts Mario and Peggy ensured we saw all the sights, helped us with information on all things Portuguese. Would loved to have stayed longer.

Luxurious villa retreat
Lovely apartment with gorgeous views, huge bedrooms and a comfortable living and dining area. Close to many towns, historic sites, restaurants and shopping.
We had a wonderful stay , enjoyed all the amenities such as barbecues and a large pool. Our hosts Mario and Peggy ensured we saw all the sights, helped us with information on all things Portuguese. Would loved to have stayed longer.

Beautiful place to stay just outside Braga
Enjoyed a lovely 5 night stay at Casa do Alto during our travels through Portugal. We stayed with our two kids, who loved being able to walk the cobblestone paths and roam the orchard. We had stayed in downtown Braga also but we were ready for the peace and quiet of the countryside. This rental is still very close to the city and all it’s amenities, but offers beautiful scenery and places to walk or hike right from the house, including a 2,000 Roman road. The apartment was just lovely, as well as the hosts. Very accommodating, and offered us some great suggestions for things to do the area. Highly recommend this place.

Muito agradàvel e a receção impecávél com uma geleira bem aprovisionada à chegada. Aconselho para uma estadia calma em família. Gostaria de ter aproveitado mais de tudo mas o tempo foi curto para todas as minha « atividades ».

Lovely country house
Beautiful location and wonderful, rustic farm house with all the amenities you could want. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Central to all the sights in the Minho region of Portugal. A great stretch of the old Roman road was just outside the gate and made for a wonderful morning walk. We were there during Easter week and able to enjoy the festivities. The only drawback was the unusually rainy weather but still managed to have a great time. I would definitely want to come back during warmer weather and enjoy the pool and the great outdoor ameneties.

Formidable séjour à la CASA DO ALTO
Nous avons passé 2 très agréables semaines à la CASA DO ALTO. Les prestations sont à la hauteur : nous étions 2 familles de 4 personnes et nous logions dans l'appartement du haut, largement spacieux et propre. La piscine a été très appréciée. Peggy et Mario sont aux petits soins tout en sachant rester discrets : toujours de bons conseils pour les sites à visiter. Nous recommandons sans hésitation et surtout, nous conservons l'adresse pour un éventuel nouveau séjour au Portugal. Karine.

EXCELLENT SEJOUR
Nous venons de passer deux semaines entre amis (deux couples avec enfants) et sommes enchantés de notre séjour à la casa do alto. Peggy et Mario sont chaleureux et accueillants et donnent de très bons conseils sur les sites à découvrir ou les bonnes adresses. Le logement, très propre, est grand et spacieux et bien équipé. Logement très propre, très grand. Confort et calme...
La propriété est très bien entretenue, très belle piscine.
Tout est parfait !
Les propriétaires sont aux petits soins.
Couple extrêmement charmant (Mario parle plusieurs langues dont le Français, et Peggy parle également le Français).
Très bon conseil de la part des propriétaires sur les points forts à découvrir dans la région (lac, balade...)
Très belle région pour les amoureux de la nature !

In reality, the Casa do Alto is even more beautiful: the apartment is spacious, clean and very comfortable, the pool a real treat and the garden full of orange and other fruit trees is a little paradise. The place is great for kids and families. Most of all, the hosts, Peggy and Mario, were extremely friendly and helpful: they gave us many tips for restaurants, day trips &c. That was a five star experience, highly recommended.
