About this house rental
Two superb properties providing luxurious, beautiful and peaceful accommodation for up to 18 in beds and 3 in cots in the wonderful Wye Valley almost equidistant from Hereford and Hay on Wye and near to the river Wye. Monnington House is a real gem and sleeps 12 plus the adjoining Garden Cottage sleeps 6. This matched accommodation is extremely hard to find. The kitchen and dining area in the main house are geared up for catering and numbers of 18.
The hamlet of Monnington on Wye offers undisturbed tranquillity and beauty and yet is easily connected to local activities, pubs and cafes and places to visit all within 20 minutes. There is a superb farm shop at the top of the lane. You will hear sheep grazing, birds tweeting and squirrels hard at work collecting nuts. A short walk, through the enchanting cider orchards, to the river will stir your senses. Let your shoulders drop and stresses disappear.
The properties have bags of charm and are places for all seasons - cosy up by the woodburners on a cold winters evening and enjoy crispy, misty walks or lap up the huge gardens and grounds and enjoy long lazy lunches in the sun on the terrace.
The properties are supplied with high quality hypnos super king beds (zip and link) and luxurious 400 thread count Egyptian linen. These simple luxuries allow you to rest and restore. Each bedroom has its own bathroom giving extra comfort and total privacy. The main house is geared up for catering for 18 guests. The kitchen is well equipped and stocked. The dining area both inside and outside seat up to 18. To help you entertain and cater there are 2 electric ovens, a 4 door aga, 2 dishwashers and 3 fridge freezers throughout. We have a great local caterer who works in the house frequently particularly when large groups come to stay. She has great reviews and really can enhance your holiday and is reasonably priced. Please make an inquiry.
On site there is plenty to do - enjoy the large 2 acres of gardens and grounds which are private and quiet and play football on the huge playing field. For rainy days and winter nights enjoy the rustic table tennis room and the games room with pool table and table football in the outbuildings. Bring your fleece and wrap up!
There is wonderful walking straight from the door to suit all abilities and ages. Monnington on Wye is located on the Bredwardine to Byford Section of the Wye Valley Walk and also on the E1 part of the Wye Walker. Across the river guests love the Moccas Hill Wood National Nature Reserve where there is a large choice of walks and wonderful trees to admire. For those who like to get their heart racing a walk to Arthurs Stone from the house is a challenge and takes about 2 hours or drive to Hay on Wye and march up Hay Bluff.
During the summer months the River Wye comes into its own. Guests love fishing and can obtain passes from either Bulmers Angling Club or the Fishing Passport. Large group bookings often enjoy a full or half day canoeing or kayaking on the Wye which can include a suitable stop at a pub on the riverbank for lunch. Wild swimming is increasingly popular. We can put you in touch with an expert. There are 5 golf courses within reach of the house including Kington which is the highest golf course in England and has with fabulous views. Hereford Raceway is close to the house and offers go-karting which the whole family can enjoy. Hereford Squash Tennis and Racket club welcomes visitors. Many guests play tennis and padel. Trekking with the llamas in the Black Mountain is loved and should be booked well in advance and likewise riding in the Welsh Hills.
A visit to the market towns of Hay on Wye is loved by book lovers. For those who love a cathedral the Mappa Mundi in Hereford Cathedral is a must. There are still many independent shops in these towns and great galleries and cafes to visit. The Small Rare Breeds Farm at Kington is nearby and loved by young and old. Everything was to a very high standard. Generous welcome pack. Accommodation met our requirements. Plenty of room for people to do different things. Play facilities for children were a boon as weather was very mixed.

We stayed over the New Year period for a family gathering to celebrate a wedding and a 95th birthday. The house is very spacious with multiple living spaces. Most of the guests (18) stayed and a few extra joined us on one of the days. We had a very enjoyable time and did all our own catering so used the kitchen extensively. The house is very well furnished and the kitchen is unusually well equipped for a rental property.

Our family of fourteen ranging in ages from thirteen to ninety one had a great Christmas in this outstanding property.
We like a rural location and Monnington is certainly that, the house itself has been beautifully restored, the kitchen, dining area with underfloor heating, an aga , two ovens and two dishwashers with plenty of dishes, plates and implements meant that our party wanted for absolutely nothing. The goodies left for our arrival were most acceptable, it has to be said you could not fault this excellent property and the owners management of it.
Thankyou Anna for making our Christmas one to remember.

Property was super, as expected. Plenty of room for all the family and enough areas to escape to if needed.
Very well equipped and the play barn provided another outlet for the kids.
Great location, quiet but not too isolated, Hay and Hereford easily reached. The weather meant that we stayed in for a couple of days but that was absolutely no problem.
Anna was super as a property owner, checking we were ok and giving us tips for activities. Check in was seamless and overall the whole experience eas great.
Highly recommended.

A wonderful weekend for 16 at Monnington House for a 50th birthday party.
The house is extremely well set up with 9 very comfortable and well appointed en-suite rooms, with seemingly endless hot water. The kitchen has all the equipment you could need to cater for a large group and there is space to sit all together both inside and also out on the terrace (including large BBQ). 3 sitting rooms each with their own log burners meant that there was always somewhere to find a bit of space - not forgetting pool table, table football and table tennis.
Anna could not have been more helpful with all arrival/departure arrangements and I can wholeheartedly recommend Debbie and Woody for any catering requirements.
All in all top class and hope to be back.

Our large family from Yorkshire, Surrey, West Midlands and Monmouth all stayed here for 4 nights over New Year. The house is amazing with everything you would need. There were so many of us we had to use the cottage as well which I gather was also amazing. The addition of en suite bathrooms to every bedroom was just so convenient and wonderful. We used all the facilities and had our own New Year Games competition which was immense fun. We had a superb meal at the Old Black Lion, Hay-on-Wye on New Year's Day and would highly recommend the restaurant. We were all sorry to leave at the end of our stay but are returning again this coming New Year for a whole week! We would like to thank our hosts for all the hard work they put in to make the property so comfortable for their quests and also thank them for the wonderful welcome pack which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. See you again on the 28th December, 2015.

Monnington House accomodated our extended family of 16 (youngest 6 months, eldest 81 years!) for one week in July 2015. Even with such a large number to be catered for we never felt crowded - far from it. The kitchen was perfect for cooking large meals for all, as well as enabling multiple cooks to prepare separately at lunch and snack time! The house is beautifully decorated from top to bottom. The luxury (necessity with big family!) of an en-suite with baths and showers for every room was amazing. The large outside space, with lawns and plentiful seating (plus essential BBQ) was enjoyed by children and adults alike.
Great location for the convenience of Hereford - swimming pool, shops and the Beer & Cider Festival - as well as beautiful towns such as Hay and canoeing on the Wye.
Highly recommended.

The property was lovely and a great size for everyone to both get together and have some quiet time away from the rest too. Very well equipped kitchen. The weather was lovely so we had chance to enjoy the outside space too including the football field. The attached cottage is a nice addition. The stay was enjoyed by all.

We had a great week staying at Monnington House.
The booking process was straight-forward and Anna the owner was very helpful throughout.
The house was just as beautiful as it looks on the website and has clearly been a labour of love. Extremely clean and well-presented throughout. Beds were all exceptionally comfortable - everyone commented on just how well they slept.
We were a large family group with ages ranging from 18 months to 70 years and the house suited us perfectly. Lots of space for us to spread out in and the grandparents could retire to the cottage annexe at night to avoid an early morning wake-up call from the children.
The large secluded gardens were a big hit with the children, there are lovely walks from the doorstep and a really useful farm shop just up the road for an essentials.
We visited the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre at nearby Kington which the children loved and also enjoyed days out in Hay on Wye and also at some nearby National Trust properties. We mostly catered for ourselves at the house as it was easier than eating out with the children but that was made very easy with a large well-equipped kitchen, 2 dishwashers, 2 large fridges etc. All in all I would highly recommend Monnington House to anyone looking for a beautiful place to stay in a very lovely part of the country.
