The Scottish region:
Scotland has a rich and exciting history. The region has so much to offer, from culture, history, beautiful landscapes, outdoor activities, to its myths and legends. There are numerous festivals held in Edinburgh, and the surrounding areas, throughout the year. It is a wonderful holiday destination with so much to explore and do.
Edinburgh itself is packed with historical sites, museums, art galleries, wonderful festivals and events, good eating and a huge variety of shops. Children and families will also love Edinburgh with all the fun activities, including the Edinburgh Zoo, Ocean Terminal - explore the Royal Yacht Britannia, have a fun walk and tea at the Royal Botanical Gardens, experience hands-on activities at the National Museum of Scotland, get "eye-boggled" at Camera Obscura and World Illusion, get shaken at Our Dynamic Earth, participate in the Science festival, walks along the beach front or canal.
Don't miss the Edinburgh Castle, Palace of Holyroodhouse, interesting shops and museums along The Royal Mile, fun bus tours of the city, or discover the secrets of the underground streets in Edinburgh (if you are feeling brave!).
Edinburgh also caters for sporting enthusiasts, with walking and cycling paths in the city, numerous golf courses, tennis and sport facilities scattered throughout Edinburgh, ski slopes and great hiking country not far from the city.
Festivals in Edinburgh include: International Science Festival; Edinburgh International Film Festival; Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival; Edinburgh Art Festival; Edinburgh Fringe Festival; Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo; Edinburgh International Festival; Edinburgh International Book Festival; Edinburgh's Christmas Festival; Edinburgh's Hogmanay, and many more ...
The Cramond - Barnton area:
In the immediate area around the apartment, you can enjoy Cramond Beach or stroll along the River Almond. There is a lovely wide walking / cycling path running next to the beach that heads in the direction of Ocean Terminal. Explore Cramond Island (but watch out for the tide), or nearby Lauriston Castle. For golfing enthusiasts, there are two golf courses in the Barnton area.
Further afield:
Not only are you spoilt for choice in Edinburgh city, but further afield there are also tons of things to see and do. There are excellent sites and activities for all the family, from young to old.
Hopetoun House, before the Queensferry bridge is a wonderful place to walk in the gardens, explore the house and top it all off with a lovely tea or lunch. They also hold various events throughout the year including the summer fair, the Christmas fair and lots of fun activities for children.
There is the famous Roslyn Chapel (mentioned in Dan Brown's book on the Da Vinci Code), with its interesting marks and centre healing spot.
Cragie's Farm is a fun spot for families - pick strawberries and raspberries, do the nature trail, and enjoy some lovely eats.
You are not far from the Scottish Borders area in the south, and heading north you soon reach the Scottish Highlands. If you have a car and want to go further afield there is so much to see in these areas as well. However, Edinburgh itself will probably be enough to keep you busy!

The rental was clean and neat. It had a great layout and met all our needs. We were there to watch our daughter at the fringe. The bus was a few blocks away from getting into the city. We really enjoyed our stay there, highly recommend it, and will stay there again.

This is such a lovely property and the host could not have been more responsive or helpful. It was truly a home away from home with some nice features I actually don’t have at my own home like heated towel racks and plenty of windows looking out onto a secluded garden space. I miss the peaceful atmosphere already. I’m so happy to have stayed at a place where you can easily catch the bus or a taxi to the touristy sites but also could enjoy this beautiful little area. There is a trailhead you can pick up near the bus stop that takes you along the river (lots of steps but worth it). There is a great little bistro on the water and a lovely beach to explore nearby. This is a wonderful place to stay and I would not hesitate to return if I have the chance.

We are fortunate to stay for a week in this nice apartment. Really nice kitchen with all the amenities and plenty of space as we were traveling with three children. It was a little out-of-the-way, but for us that was perfect as As it was a nice quiet spot to end the day. The host was very responsive, and I would highly recommend it.

We had a lovely stay! The apartment was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The area is quiet, and we slept very well. Julia provided everything we could need in the way of information and details. We definitely recommend this vacation home and would stay again. Thank you, Julia, for sharing your wonderful home.

This apartment is amazing really spacious and comfortable - a home from home. It's in a lovely upmarket location with easy access into the city (just 20 min bus ride - 3 buses an hour). Would highly recommend you will not be disappointed it really lives up to its billing!

This was a perfect spot for our family of 5. We stayed there for 8 days and were very comfortable. The host really went above and beyond for us and helped us out when we forgot some items in the home. Thank you! During most of our stay we did not rent a car, and mostly used taxis to get around, which worked well. It's located in a really nice little town. There are not many shops/restaurants within walking distance, but during the day you can walk to the beach where there is a cafe and ice cream stand. It's very quiet and we were glad we did this instead of staying in a hotel downtown.

Large space! Was perfect for our family of five with three adult children. The property manager put a cot on the sun porch for an additional bed. She left cookies and tea in the kitchen for us. Very good communication with property manager and clear instructions for check in and all appliances in the apartment. It was very clean and well stocked. Very nice and safe neighborhood. We really enjoyed our stay here!

We had a wonderful stay at the apartment. It's not too far out of city centre, but far enough to find some peace and quiet for a good night's rest. It was very clean, well-stocked, and Julia went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and attended to. Thank you for a fantastic holiday. We hope to visit again!

This review is very simple …. from booking to arrival to departure everything met or exceeded every expectation we had.
The apartment is exactly as described; heating, appliances, showers, TV, all worked perfectly.
We cooked a full Christmas day dinner for our whole family without problems.
You can tell the owners take care of the apartment and as such visitors are obliged to do the same.
We could not recommend this property higher.

This property was away from the hustle and bustle of City Center but an easy walk to the bus stops. The property was quite nice and quiet. The apartment itself was more than we could have hoped for. Kitchen was fully stocked, the decor was very nice and updated. The only thing we would have changed is to have softer beds...they are very firm.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this well equipped modern flat with first class amenities. Would recommend to anyone who is looking to rent a flat to visit Edinburgh.. Great access to airport, tram system and bus service. .

Absolutely beautiful apartment with tons of space. The neighborhood was quiet and upscale, just a 15 minute walk to the ocean. Everything was perfect except for trouble with the hot water heater. Julia, the owner, was extremely responsive in getting help out quickly to fix it. Unfortunately it still took a couple days but she did everything in her power to get things working. We loved our visit and would definitely stay there again!

Scotland July 2022
We came to Scotland, with another couple who had tickets to the open at Saint Andrews for the Practice rounds. The apartment was very nice, even better than expected. Great location to get to from the airport, and to explore other areas of Scotland.
We also liked that we could Uber in Edinburgh, to go to the Royal mile or to go out for dinner in the evening.
Very spacious and all the amenities we could need.
I would recommend!!!

Fabulous Spot in Edinburgh
What a wonderful experience! We enjoyed our time in this lovely spot so much that we extended our stay so that we could explore more of the area.
Particularly helpful was the binder with all the instructions, recommendations, and owner’s manuals. Should we be lucky enough to visit Edinburgh again, we will definitely stay here again.

Barnton’s Best
This place was just as pictured and more. The neighborhood was so quiet and safe and a great central location to attractions and the bus. We absolutely loved it and hope to return again. It felt like a second home.

We really enjoyed the Barnton 1 apartment. The size worked well for myself and 3 friends. It was very comfortable and very clean. It was a great central location for where we traveled and easy access to bus stop for travel into Edinburgh. The kitchen provided everything we needed for cooking breakfast as that was the only meal we ate at our home away from home. The washer/dryer was a real plus for us as we had a 11 day stay. Two minor enhancements would be to have hooks on the bathroom doors and a safety bar installed in the shower in the front bathroom. Julia was also very responsive to questions prior to our arrival and provided excellent information regarding bus stop locations and driving directions from the airport. I would definitely recommend this apartment to friends.

Lovely property. Comfortable. Well equipped. Great location for touring around. Only one point I would make and that is putting blinds on bedroom windows. Other than that it was perfect and we would definitely stay again.

You can tell that Julia takes great care of her property and of thinking about her guests. It is so nice when the small things are there such as tea, coffee, clean and new pots and pans, dishwashing soap, great towels, bedding, etc. The place was spacious and meet all of our needs. I was there with my husband and my 13 and 9 year old. We each had our own room and plenty of space with the dining room, kitchen, living room and sun room. Everything is there that you could need (drying racks, blow dryer). The location was fine for us as we rented a car and it is on the busline to get to the Royal Mile. Highly recommend.

Wonderful place to stay with an equally wonderful host
Julia is by far, one of the best hosts I've ever experienced. Her home is truly a place you can relax and enjoy. Very clean and comfortable with welcoming touches (thank you for the milk and cookies!). This is a great place to stay and is within close range to tour around Edinburgh and surrounding area. We will stay again and recommend to family and friends. Thank you Julia.

Great Property home from home
Our stay was excellent and the apartment was in top condition and had everything that we needed. Communication with the host Julie was also superb. The area was perfect to visit past haunts in Edinburgh and to complete touring over the Forth Bridges into Fife and beyond and down to the Border areas. We would certainly recommend this property without hesitation for couples or Parents with a family.
