Quirky Cottage
The Old Wash Kitchen is a lovely Quirky Cottage with exposed beams and Yorkshire stone. It’s an upside down house with the living quarters on the first floor and the bedrooms on the ground. Full of character down to the bathroom which I assume was the coal cellar, you need to be careful of the door which is hobbit sized but the kids will love it. A good size for a small family holiday. Lovely comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. And above all a gorgeous view from the lounge window of the Yorkshire countryside. The property is in a pretty village in a quiet lane overlooking a stream with enough shops close by for anything you may have forgotten to take.

Lovely homely cottage
We really enjoyed our stay at The Old Wash Kitchen, the cottage is comfortable and homely, and was a good size for us as a family of 4. The cottage was spotlessly clean when we arrived. It is set in a lovely quiet location, with plenty of local walks and a short drive into the peaks. The breakfast welcome pack was a thoughtful little extra and was absolutely delicious - so nice that the butter and marmalade are sourced locally. The hosts made it clear that they were there if we had any problems and needed to contact them, thankfully the need didn't arise during our stay. We would definitely recommend a stay at The Old Wash Kitchen and hope to be back again in the future.

A comfortable, clean and well fitted out little house with loads of character.
The Old Wash Kitchen is decorated and equipped to a very high standard. The whole place was immaculately clean and in an excellent state of repair. Although it looks picturesquely small from outside, it is surprisingly spacious within. There is lots of room for four and the furniture in the lounge and kitchen/diner is very comfortable. The view of the hills from the lounge is beautiful and the sound of the river just outside is lovely. The bedrooms are snug, but the beds are comfortable and the bedding of good quality. The bathroom has an interestingly hobbit-sized entrance, but inside there is a full sized bath as well as a washbasin and shower cubicle. The water is lovely and hot and plenty of fluffy, white towels were provided.
The house is located in a quiet lane of attractively interesting stone cottages and there is plenty of parking space outside. The village shop is a two minutes away and there are two pubs and a tea room in easy walking distance. Just behind the house there is a lovely riverside walk that passes an old mill building and continues into Holmfirth.
Clare, the owner answered all emails in a friendly and efficient way and her arrival and access instructions were clear and comprehensive. The welcome pack of supplies was especially kind, with eggs, bread, milk, butter, tea, coffee and sugar all waiting for us. I would not hesitate to recommend The Old Wash Kitchen as place to stay and will certainly return in the future!

Enjoyable
Very comfortable bed, well equipped quiet property, ideally placed to enjoy this breath taking area and the weather was glorious....what more could we want! My only wish would be somewhere to put my early morning cup of tea on my side of the bed.

Pretty little cottage.
A bit quirky especially getting into the bathroom. The welcome pack (bread, real butter, jam and eggs) went down a treat!!!
The only slight downside, according to the 16yr old was there was only one mirror in the whole place!!

Great character property
Our six-year-old described this as a higgledy-piggledy house due to the downstairs bedrooms but it's much more than that. In a quite location with the sound of the water rushing by: this was a super spot for our weekend break. Holmfirth is walking distance and the house itself is warm, cosy and well kept. If we're returning to the area we'll definitely stay here again!
