About this house rental
Come explore the private beach, restaurants, and shops in Duck, NC while staying at this spacious, bright retreat we call "Good Tides." You'll find paradise in this wonderful home surrounded by live oak trees for privacy while you sip sweet tea (or margaritas!) from the porch swings. The open and airy living space is perfect for that special family get together. There is also room to spread out, with extra space in the sunroom upstairs and game room downstairs with wet bar and foosball. Three story decks face the east and west to catch ocean breezes, sunrises, and sunsets. A private pool, outside shower, and hot tub are just outside the back door. Your whole family will enjoy this beautiful home.

First off, Gary is a phenomenal host who made us feel very welcomed and was great at keeping in contact to meet any needs or answer any questions. I had messaged Gary about the empty propane tank for the grill,and if it is the guests’ responsibility to get it refilled, which was no big deal. Gary did respond back to let me know where to locate the filled ones, but my phone had died and I didn’t read it in time, which was my fault. He offered to reimburse me and did. I appreciate how attentive he is.
The house was great! It was very clean, had a comfortable and cozy living room and kitchen area for our group to come together, but also is spacious and offered so many other areas for people to just hang out separately or kids to play.
If you have toddlers, this is the place to stay. House had enough board games and toys that my 2 year old loved playing with where I didn’t even need to bring any of his toys from home, which was practically half of my suitcase. The beach chairs, beach toys, and wagon were such an added bonus, especially since sometimes that can be forgotten/take too much room.
All the wives of our group definitely appreciated the number of bathrooms, especially with many rooms having their own private one, as well as the massive fridge.
If we plan to visit again, we definitely have a go to place. You can tell they take care of their property and make sure you are taken care of as well.

We had a fantastic time at Good Tides. It was the perfect size and setup for a multi-generational family gathering. The first floor foosball and TV room was a great place for kids to hang out while adults were upstairs, and the upstairs had plenty of space for everyone to be together, while doing different things and not stepping on anyone's toes. Four spacious decks were lovely for morning and evening, and the two mid-level decks were covered so you could be outside even when it rained. The walk to the beach was very manageable. Gary was very responsive and kind in the run up to our stay and during our stay, and helpful with even small logistical tips. The house and kitchen were very generously stocked with all the beach gear you could need (including towels!), paper goods, and games, etc. It was the perfect fit for our family, and we would love to stay again.

Everything was great for our family of 10 adults, enough room to spread out and still be together. The house was well appointed and clean. The only downside was our 85 year old mom couldn’t get safely into the shower. My fault for not checking on that. She did however enjoy the outdoor shower and goes with the flow so all in all 10 out of 10 for us!

It was wonderful to be able to stay with our entire family of 10, ages 4 to 65, in one house, enjoying family dinners and playing in the pool. The house was very clean and the beds were comfortable. We really appreciated all the small conveniences provided by the owner (not always supplied by other owners) such as toilet paper, laundry & dishwasher soap, beach towels, etc. We had no problems while we were there. If we ever get back to the Outer Banks, this is the place we'll stay.

Our family had a vacation planned in Marco Island for this week. With all the rain, flooding, and State of Emergency in southern Florida we needed to pivot and FAST!! Thankfully was able to cancel other trip on FRIDAY and start looking for a place for my family of 5 and my FIL and SIL. We booked this the day before coming!! Communication was fantastic and everything about this place was wonderful. The host is very thoughtful in providing all that you can imagine you'd need. I packed so many things that weren't necessary because it was all there!! The location is great, just a short walk to the beach. We made many meals at the house and all you'd need is there. We all really enjoyed ourselves. The fact that most adults had their own bathrooms attached to their bedrooms was such a bonus and the extra 2 half baths were so great to have so no one had their space taken over. We had such a wonderful relaxing time. We will definitely be back! Kuddos to a fabulous host!

Had a family of 10 adults and two children with more than enough space to enjoy. Very clean and great location to walk to beach or short drive to the town. Peaceful and beautiful location. All pool and home amenities you can think of. We had rented a golf cart to get items to/fro beach and that was great to use- made it all so easy!
Full time neighbors friendly. Must see- Corolla light house, wild horses on the beaches, walking the boardwalk, rented kayaks and went scuba diving( there is a tanker sunk off coast of Killl Devil Hill.)

Perfect house to get away with the extended family. We had 5 adults and 2 kids under 10, with plenty of room to spread out (and could easily have fit a few more adults/kids). Pool is a perfect size for relaxing for our size group, and the heater (extra charge) was clutch on what ended up being a chilly Mother's Day weekend. Dining room and living room both have good seating space for everyone which isn't always the case! Other reviews mention the gravel walk to the beach as a negative, but it is a well-maintained/packed gravel, and an easy walk in flip flops, <5min. Adorable family of 6 deer seems to live nearby, too! Owner was exceptionally responsive. Only very minor negative is that you need to make the beds upon arrival and strip them when checking out, which is a minor pet peeve for me, BUT you at least know they've been changed. :) Would absolutely stay here again. My 9 year old declared "Good Tides had Good Vibes," and that is high praise!

This was our first trip to OBX and we enjoyed our stay at Good Tides. For the past decade we have vacationed at Ocean City, MD. This property was a blend of the solitude of the mountains, including deer in the back yard, and the serenity of the ocean, a few blocks away. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub along with a very spacious living area. We did rent a golf cart because the walk to the beach was a bit far for some members of our family. Gary, the owner, was very responsive and accommodating. We had a fabulous week.

A few cons-some safety strips in the bathtub, possibly some extra bar ware (shaker, on the rocks glasses).
Pros-plenty of dishes, glasses, coffee cups, kitchen well furnished. The beds were extremely comfortable. The house felt very open and uncrowded for our family of 11. Plenty of room for everyone to sit. The kids loved the pool, the many games available to them and the goose ball. The walk to the beach was easy. The town of Duck a short drive as well as Corolla. We all had an absolutely wonderful time and would recommend this house to everyone.

Exceeded all our holiday expectations. Plenty of room for all. Everyone said the beds were exceptionally comfortable. The spot was perfect. Short walk to the beach. Smaller kids loved the pool. Trees and shade were a big plus. Sunrise on the beach was spectacular.

Wonderful vacation at Good Tides!
This was my first time using VRBO and everything about the weekend was amazing! The house is very clean, comfortable and well stocked. The basket of beach/pool towels was so convenient! The beds were very comfortable and the layout worked well for our group. The beach is a short walk down a quiet street. Gary was very prompt in answering my questions. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this home to others.

A fun trip!
Good Tides was perfect for our three families to each have our own space and also plenty of room to all hang out and be together! After a few days of rain the bugs around the property increased and Gary quickly responded by having a pest team out to take care of the issue. We had a full two weeks to enjoy the pool, hot tub and short walk to the beach. We would recommend Good Tides to anyone who wants to enjoy a realxing vacation in Duck!

Property was everything described. Short walk to beach. Privacy was good. House well supplied. Just a short cart ride into Duck to get supplies. Timing your departure on the weekend is essential. Suggest 6:30am. Owner very responsive to concerns. Will do it again.

Nice house!
House was perfect for our family! We had an issue with the smoke alarms beeping and Gary quickly resolved it! Our main problem was with the traffic on Duck Rd.... horrible all the time!!! We wouldn't stay this far north again. Dinner wait times at restaurants was horrendous! The house was great, though. Be prepared for a gravelly walk to the ocean!

Great time at Good Tides
Our family consisted of 6 adults, 4 children (ages 2, 4, 5 and 8) and we traveled from Maryland and Virginia. If you are traveling from this area, leave early on Saturday - 6:00 am at the latest! Our daughter and her family left Maryland at 6:00 and after 3 stops arrived around 2:00PM!! Going home was no better - we all left around 8:00am to return home and traffic was terrible - especially I95!

Now for the good - Once we arrived, our vacation was great! The owners supplied many items that allowed us more room to pack.
There were lots of beach toys; 7 nice beach chairs; at least 12 nice big beach towels; a beach cart and a beach wagon; a beach umbrella.
Starter items - TP, paper towels, hand soap, dish soap, laundry detergent and softener sheets.
This unit had one of the best stocked kitchens we have ever had in a rental house = pots and pans, dishes, glasses, silverware, 2 coffee makers, blender, 4 slice toaster, plastic cups for kids, etc. A second refrigerator on the lower level was great for storing extra drinks and frozen treats.
The Pool and hot tub were an added bonus!
Outside shower was great.
The beach was nice and not crowded. However, watch the tide schedule because at high tide much of the beach disappears - so head back to the pool!!
The walk to the beach is not long - about 5 minutes on a gravel road. However with younger children and an adult with a bad knee, we opted to rent a golf cart. Much easier to transport people and stuff!!
The unit was clean and in good repair. Our only issue was that the main refrigerator's ice maker was very slow and so was the water dispenser.
There is parking for 6 cars - 3 under cover and 3 in the drive.
Gary, the owner, was very responsive to our questions both before and after we decided to rent.

Wonderful Property
We had a fantastic stay here. The house is very clean; and Gary does a wonderful job keeping it up to date. There was plenty of space for our group, with a bathroom for each family. It was an easy walk to the beach, about 0.3 miles. The beach cart was a huge help. We had three 5-year olds and a 7-year old and the weather was in the mid 70s during our stay. If it was any hotter, or if the kids were younger, I would recommend getting a golf cart.

Great for multiple families and young children
We were three families all with young children, and this house was very comfortable and child friendly for us. There is a baby gate and booster seat, amd many toys and games for playing indoors and outdoor toys too. The beach gear was very helpful to have, too, the cart, wagon, beach chairs, beach towels and of course sand toys! The walk to the beach took 5 minutes as described even with our slow little kids and it is on a private, dirt road so it was nice for walking on and for the kids to ride their bikes. Being April we couldn’t use the pool but the hot tub was fun to have for kids and adults. The layout if the house was great with 5 bedrooms each with a full bath (one bath is shared between two of the rooms) and two half baths in the shared spaces. There is plenty if space for hanging out and TVs as well. Everything worked great and we all really enjoyed our stay. The host was very responsive and understanding.

Very large and clean house just a short walk to the beach. Comfortably housed 10 of us, and could easily fit a few more people. The pool and hot tub were great, and there were plenty of extra cleaning and beach supplies on hand for us to use.
Gary was a great host and was very flexible when our travel plans changed. Would definitely return and recommend to others!
