This cedar and granite retreat sits on a point 25’ from the water and offers tremendous bay views, secluded canoeing/kayaking, and quick access to Acadia or Schoodic. Originally built as an artist’s hideaway on the unique protected waters of Taunton Bay, Escape is a perfect refuge for those looking to enjoy the water, explore the islands and shores, or lounge on the massive deck.
“Escape” is a modern, spacious vacation retreat with 2BR and a large loft, 3Baths and a large wraparound deck that steps down to the granite grottos of Taunton Bay. The downstairs flooring and carpeting have just been redone.
A spacious master suite offers great bay views from every window and a pink granite fireplace. The main kitchen is open and well appointed with stainless appliances and a rough granite half wall separating it from the dining and living rooms. The loft has three beds, great views and a game area for the children. A small second bedroom, with views, is situated on the main level adjacent to a bath/laundry room. Two canoes and a kayak are available for exploring the bay and the mussel bed.
The home provides WiFi, BBQ, washer/dryer and a TV/DVD.
This quiet and secluded location is perfect for relaxing on the deck or the shore and within 30 minutes drive to Acadia or Schoodic Point. Your family will love playing in the calm water on the cove, exploring the bay and the marine life around the mussel beds and, of course, listening to the loons.

Waking up every morning to the view in the waterfront and seeing the stars on a clear night was truly one of the great assets of this location. Property owner was responsive and helpful when needed. Looking forward to going back.

Escape was a perfect oasis for our time in Maine! It was a peaceful, quiet, secluded location where we spent time canoeing, fishing, and exploring the beauty of the Taunton Bay nature and wildlife. We found it to be a manageable distance from Bar Harbor and Acadia, the quiet side of Mount Desert Island, and Schoodic Peninsula. The amenities of the property were more than satisfactory and the invaluable insight into the area from the hosts helped make our stay memorable. Cannot recommend enough!

The location is very beautiful with gorgeous views when the sunsets. Extremely clean. Just a great house for a quiet and relaxing vacation.
Acadia/Bar Harbor is a good 45 minute drive from house. Ellsworth with grocery stores and fast food restaurants 20 minutes.
The one negative is indoor furniture is pretty uncomfortable and difficult to get on and off of since so close to the floor. Mark is great to communicate with. Easy check in/out.

Property was great. Wonderful view of the Bay. Away from Bar Harbor crowd but a nice drive down there if you wanted to. Everything is easy to get to. We came a little early in the season, so a lot of places were just opening up. But it also meant less people!
Property had everything you needed. I suggest boiling your own lobster in the back with water from the bay just like owner suggested. It was great. We would definitely stay here again.

This was our second stay at Escape and we loved it just as much, if not more, than our first stay (if thats even possible!).
This is a clean, extremely well stocked, beautiful property and location. It truly checks all the boxes both in terms of the property, location, and host. We couldnt find fault with anything if our lives depended on it! Plenty of kitchenware for us to cook what we wanted to, and the basic spices and plenty of utensils. The house is stocked with anything we could have needed and was cozy, welcoming and extremely clean. The location is quiet and private and all the info provided is great.
I almost hate to rave so much about it for fear we may have trouble getting a spot next year!

My son and I had a wonderful week long stay at this beautiful, comfortable and quiet home right on the water. The herons, sea ducks and gulls fly close as they go around the point making it a superb location for viewing the local wildlife from either inside or outside of the home. In addition, we heard loon calls in the morning and evening on most days.
We had an initial problem with contacting the owner to get the necessary information to check into the home. The owner called us back as soon as he could, and then compensated us for the inconvenience resolving the issue to our complete satisfaction. We would stay here again in a heartbeat anytime we come back to this area. Highly recommended!

We LOVED this unique and lovely home perched above the water in a beautiful, quiet, peaceful area. It is immaculately clean, has everything one needs to be comfortable in every way, and is a place we'd love to return to when we visit the area again. The owner is kind and provides all kinds of useful, interesting information about the area. As said above, book it.

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Escape. It was quite spacious for our family of six and had a gorgeous backyard. Love to spend more time at the Escape on our future visits to Acadia NP and Mt. Desert Island. The main living area has been recently updated and loved the amount of space we had including the convenience of cooking in the open kitchen.

Mark's home was exactly as described. Also, Mark was very attentive to any issues that arised. The coffee maker at the cabin was not working our first morning there, but he got us new one. Our kids loved being on the water and finding creatures everyday. And the canoes were an added bonus. We would highly recommend Mark's cabin to anyone looking for a quiet time on the Bay.

This property lived up to our expectations and far, far beyond. The main draw was the feeling of seclusion and peace and quiet, which it delivered in spades. The view was amazing and the large windows allowed us to fully enjoy it even when it was a bit too chilly to be on the deck. Having our morning coffee and evening tea while looking out at the bay was like a dream.
The house had every amenity we could possibly think of and was so comfortable. The new carpeting they put in this year was nice and plush. We enjoyed use of the canoe and made several meals easily with everything the kitchen was equipped with and we could have easily done anything we wanted with the many kitchen gadgets and pots and pans provided.
It was an easy drive the large chain grocery stores and Walmart. The drive to Acadia was about 30-35 minutes and also very easy. There were plenty of eating options closer than Bar Harbor so the location worked out very well!
It was an absolute favorite stay of ours!

Honestly, after spending a week at this property I could see myself living in Maine. Other than the wood stove being inoperable this place was perfect. The costal wildlife we were able to experience was wonderful. We plan on returning to this property as soon as we are able.

The view from the deck is incredible. Had a couple of dsays of rain but the wall of windows facing the bay still left us with wonderful views.

This was our third year at Escape and we are already looking forward to our next stay. The house is great, the location is so quiet and peaceful and the sunsets off of the back deck are our favorite time of day. Lots to do with Acadia and Bar Harbor close by or you can just sit on the rocks and enjoy the beautiful scenery!

Graduation getaway
Two friends on a trip with our boys and their buddy as a graduation gift to them. We had so much fun! They loved the canoes and swimming in the cove at high tide. Side trips to Acadia, Bar Harbor, and Schoodic were great, but we mostly enjoyed sitting in the 2 chairs below the deck, watching wildlife with the binoculars. The sunsets were spectacular! We saw 2 seals at the same time on our last day here. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay on the water in beautiful Maine!!

We loved this quiet property that provides beautiful views, spacious rooms, and a well equipped kitchen. We had fun using the canoes for exploring the cove. The drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor is easy, and worth the peace and quiet when you get back to the Escape. We would highly recommend this home and the owners!!

Everything about Mark’s home was incredible!!!! We throughly enjoyed our stay.
Mark’s home and property was amazing! The sunrise views from the deck were gorgeous. My kids loved playing on the rocks in the water and catching crabs and periwinkles. The canoes and kayak were an added bonus and we even saw a seal while out on the kayak. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. We loved everything about our stay at Escape.

Wonderful Place!
We had a wonderful time, could NOT get over the amazing views. We would stay here again and again! Lots of places to go hiking and exploring, though we went off season so not a lot of close restaurants open (which we knew going in).

Perfect location to visit Acadia NP and Down East
Spacious home set in the woods right on the water of Taunton Bay, with quick access to Bar Harbor/Acadia NP (40 min) or Schoodic Peninsula (10 min). Ellsworth is only 10-15 minutes down the road and has all you need—grocery stores, etc. The owner communicates quickly, and gave us a ton of information about how to best enjoy our time. The house is extremely well provisioned —canoe/kayaks/bedding/books/games and a GREAT kitchen with everything one needs to cook. The large porch is perfect for watching loons and water. The master bedroom is huge with a large walk-in closet and spacious full bath, good shower with lots of hot water. The second bedroom is quite small, as is the second bathroom (very small shower). There is a large laundry/utility room that also has a toilet/shower. The living area is huge with big sky lights—the only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is the furniture is pretty basic (molded plastic kitchen chairs) and the couch is about 6 inches off the floor and difficult for older folks to get in and out of (and not at all comfy to sit on). Upstairs is a loft with two double beds—pretty dark, not much lighting. The house is perfect for a family. The Down East Sunrise trail is very close to the house (by car) for biking/walking/birding. We had a lovely stay and would definitely stay here again.

True escape
We truly enjoyed the peacefulness of this home. The views from the deck were priceless, even on a rainy day. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. The living room furniture was a little lower than we're accustomed to but still comfortable. We enjoyed going into Bar Harbor and hiking Cadillac Mountain but enjoyed coming "home" to "Escape"!

Perfect for a family that likes the outdoors
The layout and master bedroom are great but the other accommodations are definitely a step or two below. Not uncomfortable, juSt not at the same level.
Outdoor furniture and fittings could also use some upgrading. However, the location is spectacular and access to restaurants, hiking trails and beautiful scenery is first class.

A Great Escape
This was our second time staying at this gorgeous home and property and we will be back. The location is so beautiful and quiet and serene. It is a perfect place to relax and read a book. The location 30 minutes. from Acadia is ideal should you want to go for a walk or a hike. You can do a lot or nothing and have the perfect vacation!

Amazing property!
We stayed at 'Escape' for 6 nights and loved everything about it! The beauty and the quiet were amazing. It was fairly close to a lot (45 minutes to Bar Harbor and Acadia) Ellsworth had all you could need for grocery stores and that was about 10-15 minute drive. Beds were comfy. Truly felt like a home! Don't hesitate to stay here!

Great Relaxing Vacation!
This was a very comfortable home in a fabulous location. The drive to MDI was easy and we also enjoyed exploring the Schoodic Peninsula. The home had everything we needed and it was well labeled with sticky notes. It was too cool to kayak but we had some wonderful hiking and biking. Lots of good take out food on the way back from Mt. Desert Island. We would highly recommend this property.

Beautiful House
My wife, son, and I stayed at this property for a week due to its close proximity to Acadia National Park and beautiful location on the bay and could not have been happier with our stay. The house was clean, unique, and had all necessary amenities. The back deck located on the rocks above the bay was incredible and we spent a lot relaxing there, definitely our favorite part of the house. Additionally, we were fortunate enough to see an absolutely breathtaking sunset one evening. Overall, we would recommend this house to anyone and would stay here again.
2.5 / 5.0
It’s difficult to summarize just how perfect the property, location, and overall amenities of the house were. The entire house was VERY clean and the owner had placed color coded post-its for helpful hints regarding the house/appliances. Being that I am also someone that loves color coding and overall organization, it was very much appreciated! The house was also well stocked with basic needs for your stay with the wonderful addition of 2 canoes and a kayak - that we used a few times to explore the bay! We even saw some seals when we explored some of the small islands near the house!! But if kayaking or canoeing is not for you, the deck and view from sitting at the rocks is peaceful and beautiful. The house was about 30-40 minutes from Acadia on MDI and the inland portion on the Schoodic Penninsula. This made it super easy to travel to either one every day and the car ride to either part of the park is scenic so it doesn’t even feel like you’re in the car for long! In case you couldn’t tell, I would absolutely return (and certainly hope to) for another sweet Escape!

Beautiful home over looking the water
This beautiful large home was the perfect place to gather as we explored the area, hiking and sightseeing near Acadia. We found it to be just over a 30 minute drive to the National park. Due to new regulations you will need a reservation to travel loop road into the park to see all the main attractions and Cadillac Mountain. Be sure to go online ahead of time to purchase your tickets! Unfortunately we did not realize this prior to our trip and so we were not able to go where we originally intended, but did find some other lovely hikes and places to go. Also, we were pleased to find some great outdoor eating establishments where we got great local seafood and lobster rolls! The house offered plenty of room and all the amenities we needed. If you are looking to visit the Acadia area, this is a great place to “escape” to! Thanks to Mark for sharing his beautiful home!

Perfect Week Vacation
This property was just what was needed for the family. It was the perfect getaway and traveling to Acadia National Park was easy as well as Bar Harbor. The house was perfect and had everything that we needed and having the use of a kayak and canoe was great for sunsets on the bay. I would highly recommend this house and look forward to another trip back to Maine to explore what we missed.
