***FULL DISCLOSURE***
Our classic Folly cottage is older for sure, but freshly painted, fully furnished and ready for your family. This home is 70 years old and as such has some peculiarities consistent with it's age. Our 1959 cottage has everything you need to enjoy the best of Folly Beach. Located in the quiet east end of the Island (past the washout), this home enjoys dramatic panoramic views of the Folly River and marsh with peeks of the ocean waves. This very cozy and charming cottage is on an elevated, single main floor. Sleeping areas feature two marsh front bedrooms with queen beds and one day/trundle bed in master for kids. This house includes a living area with ample seating, 55-inch flat screen tv with with smart tv and local hd antenna and a fully outfitted kitchen and dinning area. This property could be a true, 5 star rental. However, there was mold in both baths, Shower door was barely hanging on and the BR doors to the shared deck, would not lock.
The washer and dryer were located on the lower (under house) space and still had towels in the washer. The laundry room was a mess!
There was open food in the refrigerator left by previous guests.
The house is spacious, clean, light and airy and could be a prime rental with some necessary upkeep.
It is conveniently located with a beautiful view of the marsh, sunsets as well as a small, ocean view and restaurants are close by.

Property was charming and the area was quiet. Can’t beat the sunset view of the marsh. I’d come back.

Lovely, quiet older house steps from the beach. Easy check in and out. As advertised, Marshmellow has some little quirks that come with it being an older home, but nothing that the marsh view and proximity to the beach didn’t more than make up for. Loved the sunsets from the spacious back deck. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

House was clean and had everything we needed. Located away from the madding crowds, so that was nice. Beach was great and close by. Marshes off the back deck was a nice feature and we were able to see about 20 fireworks displays in the distance beyond the marsh on July 4. Great sunsets! The kids enjoyed watching the little crabs off the “crab dock” at low tide.

Everything was wonderful! The house is the cutest beach vibe! Great location! Great communication! I would definitely stay here again!

We had a wonderful time revisiting Marshmellow. The location near the end of the island is perfect, the marsh views are spectacular, and the proximity to the quiet stretch of beach can't be beat. Steven was super helpful and responsive. We hope to come back again.

This was our first trip to Charleston and Folly Beach. I was in town visiting my daughter and grandkids. This beach house was further down away from the “busier” part of town, which I loved. Yet just a short drive to the main strip. Easy walk to the beach access and deep yard w/ older dock to the back marsh waters. My grands loved catching “crabs” . The home is older however very cute and spacious inside & nicely furnished. Comfortable stay and I am looking forward to visiting again some day. Steve was great too! Prompt communication and easy access instructions.

A girlfriend and I have come here twice now for a joint birthday trip. It is the perfect house for the two of us - We love having the Marsh-view with our coffee in the morning and a quick walk across the road to the beach. I was sad to find out that they are not accepting reservations for next year. The only thing I will note is that neither of the sliding glass doors in the bedrooms actually lock And the wooden block to secure the door was missing in one of the rooms. There is also a lock completely broken off of one of the bedroom windows. Seeing as it’s just us 2 women, we do like to feel secure in the home at night. Otherwise, this house is always incredibly clean, cozy and well stocked.

I had to reach out to the owner because I never received check in details. He was quick to reply and help with this. He even said the place was ready and we could check in early if needed. We didn't because we had a 2 hour drive and the 4:00 check in worked fine for us.
I wish that I could attach pictures on how dirty the place was. I've seen other reviews of this property and understand its an old beach cabin so it will have slopping floors etc. There was a soiled and dried up dirty wash cloth in the bath tub. A potato and dirty dishes shoved in a lower cabinet and most pans had food stuck on them. The fridge had two giant 2.5 water jugs with very little water left, half a gallon of opened milk and many other used and opened items. This made it hard for us to have room for our own items. Half of the cabinets don't close and there was wadded up tissues inside the mirror cabinet that had been used. The bedroom carpets looked like they hadn't been vacuumed in months and there was children's dried up cereal under it. The bedroom sliding door wouldn't lock and the front door code would not work except to open it once. So we had to leave it unlocked when we left the house during the day. Full dog poop bags on the property. Mold in the showers and water damage all over the master bath shower because the door wouldn't shut all the way. I've stayed in motels that are cleaner. The only thing it has going for it is the location. So disappointed and grossed out.

I had a great stay, Folly Beach is great. The beach across the street is hard packed sand since it’s submerged at high tide. Not an issue for us though. For a bigger beach with soft sand walk 5 min down the road to the nature preserve/beach it’s beautiful.

Exactly as described. We had such a relaxing weekend. The house had everything we needed to cook fresh shrimp each day. We didn’t give the crab pots a proper chance but how exciting to check them every day.

The kitchen had almost everything we needed to make our Turkey dinner for 6! It’s a bit worn but comfortable.
We sure missed the kayaks though.
Will come back again in the summer.

I absolutely adore this house! It’s quaint and full of character. I love knowing there’s 70+ years of love and stories between these walls. Steve was easy to work with and we were quite comfortable.

We had the best fall break week in Folly Beach. The Marshmellow Cottage was perfect for our family. It is an older home but has been very well maintained and was very clean. My boys enjoyed the dock over the marsh. We loved that it was a short walk to the beach and within walking distance to the lighthouse. Steven was very helpful with everything. We will definitely stay here again.

Was the perfect stay for us and our 1 yr old. We enjoyed the marsh view and proximity to the beach. Also felt very private.

We really enjoyed this rental. The beds were comfortable, the living/dining space was generously sized and the decks outside were just lovely. We had never stayed at this end of Folly before and it was nice and quiet. Would definitely return.
After reading other reviews, I brought some extra lamps. This brightened up the kitchen. We would have also been fine without them, but the extra evening light was nice.

This property was perfect for our family beach vacation - stocked with all the essentials, comfortably furnished and very clean. The really special part of staying at this property is getting to enjoy the sunset over the marsh each night - just stunning.
The property owner was responsive and incredibly helpful.
Beach access is directly across the street, downtown Folly is a quick trip in the car, and downtown Charleston is also easily accessible for a day trip.
We found lots to do with our young kids - carriage ride downtown, Charleston aquarium, casual dinners in Folly. Highly recommend this beach cottage and hope to bring the family back soon!

Perfect getaway for our girls weekend! Close to the beach, town but far enough away from the congestion of town. All the amenities you need to enjoy your stay!

This was our first visit to Folly Beach and we are in love! This VRBO is bright and cheerful with a large windowed sitting room and open kitchen/dining/family space. The best part was the amazing marsh views from the full deck of the back of the cottage. Both bedrooms have access to the deck and waking up to the egrets and pelicans over the marsh was amazing. The beach is across the street and only a 5min walk through the public access point. The house had everything we needed and this is an unbeatable quiet location at the end of Folly Beach. We would love to come back for a longer stay :)

Our family loved staying in this traditional Folly Beach house! Rustic, Quiet, Close to ocean and perfect for our family. Beautiful sunsets off the back porch and super close to the sand!

This house was even better than we expected. It is an older home but it is still very full of life and charm. I loved the original touches that have been maintained. The hardwood floors are spectacular. The marsh view is unbeatable and the close proximity to the beach was amazing. The kitchen had everything we needed, to include a coffee grinder (life saver when we realized we’d accidentally grabbed whole bean coffee!). The water pressure was fantastic and we didn’t experience the low level of hot water referenced in a previous review. The owner has thought of everything. We have already put in a request to return next year! If you are on the fence… book it! You will not be disappointed.

We had a wonderful time on our return visit to Marshmellow. The location on the end of the island near the quiet stretch of beach, along with the amazing marsh views, can’t be beat. Great house for families. Easy and prompt communication with the host. We can’t wait to come back.

First off, the location is amazing- we loved being close to the beach and also having the river in the back. The house is cute with its exposed beams and sunroom.
However, for the price of the stay, I would expect to have slightly better amenities. For example, they only give you *starter* toilet paper and no shampoo or body wash. In addition, I had to clean out the fridge from past guests. I also did not appreciate the host messaging me mid-stay to take the trash can bins to the street. If I'm paying a $200 cleaning fee, that should be something done by the host or the cleaners.
Also, don't get excited about the giant bath tub, there is only enough hot water to fill it about 1/4 full. Overall, I would stay there again with the expectation that it is a bit rough around the edges.

The property is in the best area (for me) of Folly Beach- the East end where one has quiet, access to the beach and a daily panorama of birdlife in the marsh and around the house. Amazing birdsong to accompany the quiet. All the amenities are there for a good beach experience.

The home was very peaceful. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The weather was stinky so we spent most of the time inside which was ok because the home was really comfortable and nice. We will be back! Thank you.

We wanted to visit Charleston and all the attractions but did Not want to be in the city. This house is on the quiet and beautiful end of Folly island. The house is exactly as described and a perfect getaway. Our Weather was cool and some rain - I can only imagine how perfect it is when the sun is out and the ocean breeze blows. The back deck is huge and a beautiful view. Would love to return.
