About this cottage rental
Enjoy the sunrise each morning at this comfortable family cottage, located at the west end of Big Platte Lake with 100' of sunny, sandy beach front. Located down a beautiful, private wooded road - away from all traffic and noise.
Lake gradually deepens, so there is plenty of shallow water for safe play. Very special location - at the end of a private cul-de-sac backed by beautiful woods.
Cottage has brand new kitchen and has an open dining/living room floor plan great for family gatherings. Kitchen is fully equipped to cook for your party! There is charcoal grill for any outdoor cooking you might have!
This cottage is lovingly family-owned and maintained. In 2021 we completely replaced the kitchen. The cottage is comfortable and clean, but the star of this property is its location and private frontage on Platte Lake. Arguably the best spot on the lake!
* Pontoon is family owned and is not available for use or rent. * Additional pet fee of $100 per pet.

For price of renting bedrooms shd b nicer. No place to put clothes BR furniture a disaster. Bathrooms need to be cleaner and rugs in BR are really bad. Did not see one fire detector or carbon monoxide detector. Location fabulous, overall place ok not great. A bear came into yard and and a raccoon was able to enter through the disastrous windows.Laundry facility not great. Again for the price they are getting there are areas that need a lot of work.

We had a great time at Platte Lake! This is the third time we have stayed at this cottage. It is close to the dunes and tubing/kayaking down the Platte River. We went to Frankfort for ice cream and to watch the sunset.(Such a cute little town!) We discovered Point Betsie beach on Lake Michigan and went rock hunting. All of this is within a 15 min drive. The cottage was clean with some new updates and has a sweet charm. The lake is shallow in front of the cottage (and warm the week we were there) and great for families with young ones. We would recommend highly!

Pros: Beautiful location, great beach and lake, perfect for children, great neighbors, kitchen updated and well stocked with dishes, etc. Good shower with plenty of hot water
Cons: Cottage is old, could be cleaner, well water undrinkable and yellow, washer and dryer ruined some of our clothing, hot water is scalding so be careful little ones don’t get burned

Large lot with a beautiful view. Quiet spot. Had a new kitchen and large living area. Spent most of our time sight seeing but enjoyed coming back to the cottage to relax.

Great location, very quiet and peaceful. We can tell it would be fun in the warmer months to use the waterfront. Overall great place, it is apparent through the historical photos that improvements have been done over the years and a lot of memories are made here.

Perfect fishing trip
My friends and I rented the house for a birthday fishing trip weekend. The house was clean, comfortable and just what we needed! Close to the fishing sites, able to bring our own boats to fish the lake or do some kayaking. We met the owners the last morning of our stay and they were super friendly. Would highly recommend and will be looking to book again next year!

Peaceful place
Quiet place at the end of a quiet private road. Beautiful lake views. Liked the very clean screened gazebo with plenty of comfy chairs to relax in as you view the lake. Lots of room to play on the lawn by the lake. Has a sandy beach. Plenty of chairs on the deck and by large fire pit. New kitchen is very nice. Not much lighting though. Could use more updating in the house, especially in bedrooms, but overall, a positive experience.

Mostly Great
I really enjoyed staying here. It has a very cozy vibe with some cool mid-century touches. I appreciate that this is a family home and liked seeing the family photos and mementos. There were definitely some things that could have used freshening up but none of that really bothered us at all as we are fairly laid-back people. The beds and furniture were comfy, and really as long as I can relax and sleep comfortably, I’m good. Only a few small things I think could be improved: We couldn’t get the dishwasher working and hand washing dishes is not my favorite thing to do on vacation . The sponge provided to wash dishes was quite old and unappealing. There were no toiletries provided, which wasn’t something we needed but are used to seeing at VRBO properties. A set of newer towels for guests would be appreciated, as well as some basic toiletries as I have come to expect that from VRBO rentals even if I don’t usually use them. Again, these are all pretty minor issues and were easily overcome by the wonderful location.

Family Tradition
It was fun to be in a home that has raised several generations of family. Wish we could have been there then.
Booking process very graceful. Property was what was expected. Great location. In house resources, cooking, heating, towels, etc. are all there. Attention is needed with cleaning, paid a premium price for cleaning services, but there was plenty of leftover dust to share. The mold mildew odors are always present. Tried to open BR windows for fresh air, but they would not open. Fire Marshall might like to know that.
Patching holes on walls and a coat of paint would better justify the price point charged.

Beautiful Beachfront
The cottage is open and well-kept. Lots of windows, all of which can be opened, which makes for very pleasant cross-ventilation. The kitchen is very well furnished and well organized. There are even labels on the drawers telling you what's in them.
The beachfront is beautiful. The yard is mostly lawn, but there are trees scattered about, and also lawn furniture. There's even a screened-in gazebo. The lawn fades to sand near the lake. The lake bottom is all sand, even right next to the shore. It gets deeper very gradually, so you have to walk out about 100 feet (the end of the dock) for an adult to have room to swim. The wind is usually off-shore, so the shorefront is usually quite calm, even on days when the prevailing wind is quite strong. The lake itself is also beautiful, surrounded on all sides by heavily wooded small hills.
Just the spot for a very relaxing getaway.

Wonderful week at the lake
Situated on a beautiful beach. Prevailing wind is blocked by trees. Plenty of sun or shade depending on your preference. As always a week on Platte Lake is just relaxing.

Great location and lake access
The best part of this property by far is the lake access. There was a nice sandy bottom, and the kids (10, 12 and 13) were all able to walk out in the water to the end of the very long dock without the water getting too high on them. The house does have a few canoes but we brought our own kayaks and kayaked out to Lake Michigan. Location is great with the house being less than a half hour away from Sleeping Bear Dunes and Crystal Mountain, and less than an hour away from Traverse City. The owner, Gina, was quick to respond to any questions and easy to work with. There were a few things in the actual house that could use some attention, like missing ceiling tiles in one bedroom and a missing light fixture in another, but none of this impacted our stay. Overall, if we ever decide to take another trip out that way, we would stay here again. Thanks for sharing your family home with us.

Great Family Location
You can not beat the location. True up North vibe and feeling. I chose the cottage as it was perfect for my family and I didn't have to worry about tip toeing the family around it. It is adequate for all things. The lake is perfect. Sandy shore, super sandy lake access. Great for paddle boarding and kayaking. Great fireplace and fully stocked with everything you need. Highly recommend for the family.

We LOVED this hidden treasure at the end of the road, set perfectly on the lake!
This cottage was super easy to rent and with the weather as perfect as we were blessed with, we spent all our time on the porch and beach! The location is central to so many day trips it couldn’t have been any better! Thank you for helping us make more family memories!!

Quiet prime location on Platte Lake at end of gravel drive!!
This was our third year at Tocco's catch and we will be booking again next year!! Best rental location on the lake and all new beds this year was a pleasant surprise. Canoe from the house to Lake Michigan with canoes provided on the property.

Overall - very nice place to stay
Great house and great location. Very clean, and close to everything. It was perfect size for our stay - 4 adults, 1 toddler, and 1 newborn. Had a great deck and backyard for our son to play in. All the beds were comfortable, and having towels/linens available was a nice convenience.
The only "issue" we had was that the beach had a good amount of weeds, and the first 5-10 feet when walking into the water was very muddy. You sank up to your ankles when walking in.

Not well kept. Very disappointed. Should not be rented.
Cluttered, not clean. No towels till we found them in the dryer on Monday. Rugs in bathrooms dirty. Sheets on lower bunks used, we washed them. Sticky kitchen floor. Dirty carpet, we all had black feet. Mattress on queen bed should be replaced. Fans are filthy. 4-slice toaster only works for 2 slices. Seems to be a family retreat that no one takes care of, just rents.
We had to ignore so much negativity as we were tied to this rental with no alternative, We traveled 500 miles expecting a nice place to stay. Can't imagine VRBO advertising this place posting POSITIVE reviews.

Loved our Stay at Tocco's Catch
We have been vacationing on Platte Lake for over 30 years, and my husbands family 30 years before that! So we have stayed many places around Platte Lake, but Tocco's Catch has been one of our favorites and best vacations yet!
The house accommodations suited our family of 8, loved the big table we all could eat at! the kitchen had plenty utensils and dishes to make meals for all of us!
But our favorite part of our stay was the yard, beach, shallow entrance into the lake and the dock! This side of Platte lake is so calm and enjoyable, we LOVED IT! And will definitely be back! Thank you for sharing your little piece of HEAVEN with us!

Clean cottage, beds and linens need to be replaced (aged). Beach requires cleanup as weeds have grown in.
Nice having canoes and paddles available.

Great Family Getaway!
Our family loved our time at Tocco's on Big Platte. Our kiddos are ages 6 and 9 and it was a perfect place for us all to unwind and enjoy the beauty that surrounds. We did miss the entrance road a few times on check-in day, but it's forever burned in our minds now, so we'll remember that the next time we stay.
The beauty of this spot is that it's secluded yet super close to everything you might want if you decide to hop in the car...super close to Riverside for ice cream, essentials, and floating/kayaking to Loon, a short drive to all of the tourist hot-spots, and not far from the drive-in for a family movie-night. Several quaint restaurants are nearby, but honestly, we LOVED making dinners at the cottage...grilling out on the charcoal grill nearly every night and just relaxing. The kitchen is nicely equipped for cooking most anything to enjoy on the picnic table provided on the deck that overlooks Big Platte.
The shallow entry and beach area were fantastic for the kiddos. The fire pit by the beach was also a great place to have nightly bonfires for s'mores making.
The inside of the cottage had everything we needed. There was more than enough space for our family of four to relax through the evening after fun-filled days. The beds were comfortable and the sunrises were spectacular to wake up to.
You can sense the love in this family-owned cottage, as it's apparent generations have made and shared a lot of special memories in that same spot.
