"The Ranch", as we call it has been in the family since 1871 and started off as a two story house on 52 acres of Redwood forest near Sebastopol and Occidental, CA. In 1906, the Great San Francisco Earthquake brought much of the home down, and it was rebuilt as an 1100 sq ft single story home with with the original redwood and fir flooring that it has today! These floors were restored as best possible in 2017.
Over the years it served various land uses with the 1950's seeing the start of Rome Apple production. The land was an apple orchard until 2016 when the Far Niente wine group leased 6.5 acres and re-purposed our hill for Pinot Noir production. The new label these grapes go to is EnRoute, and is in the same wine family as Far Niente, Dolce, Nickel & Nickel and Bella Union.
For all of 2016 and 2017, the winery prepped the land and planted fertilizing ground growth. The vines were finally put in Spring of 2018. The vineyard is fenced off, so you aren't able to walk through it. But you can enjoy the views! However, there is a 100 year old Pinot vine right behind the back deck you can pick the grapes from if the deer don't beat you to it. There are also several apple trees left that fruit in the fall.
The house itself feels larger than it is since it has 10ft ceilings and large rooms. Additional light has been added and the house has a very airy open feel, with two very large fans in the living room. The house does not have central heating or air. Since it located within ten nautical miles from the coast, the evenings are almost always cool and enjoyable in the summer. For winter, electric heaters work well and there is an efficient wood stove for you use. Firewood is included.
Upon arrival, prepare to relax on the deck with your complimentary chilled bottle of Bowman Cellars Rose of Pinot Noir. Bowman is located in Graton, just minutes from Bluebird Ranch and hosts wine tastings, regular menu items, and various pop up dinners. The Big Bottom Biscuit Bullet, a guest weekend food truck, offers a delicious selection of sweet and savory delights from Guerneville’s favorite gourmet deli and marketplace. Open seasonally on Saturdays and Sundays from 11-4, this classic Airstream trailer will accompany you as you sit back and enjoy their gourmet biscuit sandwiches in their pet friendly patio area. Utilize one of our complimentary 2 x 1 wine tasting vouchers and refill your Rose bottle at a discount!
When you aren't wine tasting, or enjoying the many highly rated farm to table restaurants sit back on the rear deck and watch the hawks and other birds fly around. Sometimes you'll see deer, or even "Dirty Bob"- our resident bobcat. Pick blackberries, apples, peaches and walnuts. Again, if you can get to them before the critters.
Sonoma County is unique in that it has so many quaint little towns with their own microclimates. You can wind through redwood groves or take a drive along the gorgeous California coast and be sure that you will run into a sweet little town with a few family owned restaurants and unique shops. When we tell people we are from Sebastopol, people always ask.. .where's that? So we tell them one hour north of San Francisco and 20 minutes west of Santa Rosa. Along with the little lesser known places above, we also boast some of the bigger, well known, players in Wine Country.
Santa Rosa - 20 minutes, Check out 4th Street, loaded with restaurants, bars, shops, or railroad square with more shops and restaurants. Take a hot air balloon ride with Wine Country Balloons or go ice skating at Snoopy's Home Ice, followed by a stop at the Charles M. Schulz Museum for some Peanuts history. Hike Sugarloaf.
Healdsburg - 30 minutes, Charming downtown square with shops, restaurants, galleries all within a stone's throw of the square. You are sure to have some lively discussions in the creaky chairs on the front porch. If you have a boat, take it out to Lake Sonoma for warm day on the water.
Geyserville - 40 minutes, When we have guests in town, we often go to Francis Ford Coppola Winery and Restaurant. Eat at Rustic on the beautiful patio overlooking the picturesque Alexander Valley or reserve a spot for the day at the 3,600 square foot pool with full service from the pool bar and restaurant. Shop for souvenirs at his Coppola Movie Museum and enjoy items and costumes from his movie sets. The little town of Geyserville is darling. More good food, drinks, shops, wineries, and galleries.
Sonoma - 55 minutes, Sonoma hosts another charming town square. Visit the Sonoma Mission or Sonoma Jack Cheese Factory. The Girl and the Fig is one of our favorite Sonoma County restaurants.
Things to consider:
*This is a 150 year old house and there will be creaks in the floor and other older house issues.
*You will be on a working vineyard, so expect there to be workers behind the fence at times. There may also be tractors and other equipment running.
*There is no air conditioning, but the house rarely gets hot due to the proximity to the coast. However, there are times in the fall that don't cool off as they usually do. There are plenty of ceiling fans and floor fans.
*You are in the country so be mindful of your pets. There are coyotes, bob cats, red tailed hawks and even the occasional mountain lion.
We hope you will choose our historical farm house for your visit to wine country!

The house was amazing, beautifully updated and very private. Absolutely loved sitting on the porch and overlooking the vineyard. Perfect finish to the vacation.

The Bluebird Ranch farmhouse was a historic delight! Amazing craftsmanship, and updated furnishings are a perfect complement to the heritage of the much-loved home. Waking up in the vineyards was beautiful, and ending the day with circling hawks and other birds in the sky was perfect. The hot tub is a great place for star-gazing, since there is very little light clutter in this area. The kitchen is well-stocked (we only needed olive oil and a coffee grinder!). The host was accessible, and answered ?s quickly. We were hoping for a quiet space to celebrate our 3rd anniversary (yeah, we had a pandemic wedding), and Bluebird Ranch was a perfect venue for us. Our dog loved the space to roam, and meeting new critters on the farm.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Well appointed. Spent much time hanging on the back deck and in the hot tub. Beautfiul views! Even changed the hummingbird feeder to encourage more of the hummers to come around! Bed & bathroom good. Good amount of space. Kitchen is well-equipped, and basics are availble, including spices.

The property had that lovely ‘old California farmhouse’ feel to it. Very cozy. Needed to open windows at night and close up everything during the day to stay cool, but we are used to that, coming from MT and growing up in CA. Very nice deck areas for mornings and eves.

Secluded Cottage
Very nice old cottage. Surrounded by grape vines. Very secluded tucked in the California wine country mountains. Well stocked for our week stay. Downside was there were no sidewalks and the roads are very narrow and windy so unsafe to walk but we enjoyed our time

Cozy and Comfortable
We loved our stay at the Bluebird Ranch House! Cozy, quiet, stocked with tons of towels, heaters, board games, blankets, and more, we were very comfortable! The house is tucked between vineyards - close enough to town without being in the middle of everything.
We visited the coast for crab sandwiches and clam chowder, the Russian river for a sunny stroll, The Barlow and Santa Rosa for shopping, and Napa for BottleRock and did not dread the drive back to the house!
Ron was readily available by messaging and phone and promptly addressed our concerns and inquiries. (We arrived to the house around 1 am).
Mahalo nui loa to our lovely hosts, Ron and Marlo!
We can't wait to stay here again!

Lovely Farm
We stayed here for an quick Anniversary get away and we had a really nice time, the house is so cute and loved the artsy decor. The hot tub was nice a touch too. The view in the back yard of the vineyard was really nice and the only reason why I don’t give the review five star for cleanliness, is that there is a run down looking camper on the property that was a bit of an eyesore, but other than that it was really quaint and beautiful surroundings. The owner Ron was so nice and helpful and we would stay here again if we were in Sebastopol.

Loved our stay!
The property was fabulous! The location to the towns of Occidental & Sebastopol was perfect! Very convenient to wineries & the Sonoma Ziplining Adventure was breathtaking thru the Redwoods! We enjoyed the hot tub after a great day of wine tasting & dinner at Gravenstein Grill!! The house had everything we needed for our 4-night stay. If we decided to visit again this would be our choice!! Thanks to Marlo & Ronnie for a great house to stay!!

Beautiful Stay
We were (unfortunately) in town for a funeral and wanted somewhere to retreat from the chaos that surrounds those. This was an amazing, beautiful, quiet place to unwind after dealing with unpleasantness, and we even managed to see some of the area. Our hosts were so helpful and accessible that it made everything better. Thank you for the great stay, and we will definitely be back under happier circumstances Well worth the price.

Yes, we would return.
Property lived up to our expectations;
Further out of Sebastopol then expected - not for guests who want to “run into town”;
Highly recommend having a TV remote guide - which one does what and a guide for what “local stations” are national stations
Night light in bathroom
Again, we would/will return. The view, the whispering breeze, bird watching from the deck brings peace of mind and soul. Thank you!

May consider getting a split unit for heat as all the space heaters blow the unit. We loved the farmhouse otherwise. Full of character. Unfortunately it rained everyday but we still loved the view. Thank you

Beautiful Wine Country House
Beautiful little historic home among the vineyards and apple trees. Home had everything we could possibly need. Spent a lot of time on the lovely deck, listening to and watching all the bird activity (we're bird nerds!). Check in process couldn't have been easier. Communication excellent. Perfect place for a weekend getaway! Loved reading about the history of the house. Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful stay in a lovely home next to the vineyard
This older cottage has been tastefully restored and decorated. It is well equipped and is very spacious. Bubbling in the hot tub viewing the vineyard is heavenly. We had a wonderful stay and would return as well as recommend to friends. The story of this cottage and the family who owns it was so interesting. Staying there felt like being a part of it's history.

Amazing view
This place was well stocked, clean and had beautiful view off the back deck. The only negative thing I could say is that the sofabed was uncomfortable according to my daughter. There were no window coverings in living room, so it got bright early. Other that that loved the hot tub and double deck out back with vineyard views. Would stay here again if just 2 of us.

You can't help but fall in love with this historic home on the vineyard! Comfortable and pleasantly decorated it was perfect for our 2 night stay. A hummingbird as well as others visited us while we were soaking in hot tub. Also, we were fortunate to witness a night of the fall harvest! We will be back!

Fantastic property, great location!
This house was ideal for our stay in Sonoma County. It's a great jumping off point for all the Russian River valley and Healdsburg wineries - not to mention some fantastic one right in Sebastopol. The house is historic but has all the modern amenities you could want - and the hot tub was very welcome after a long day of winery hopping. Ron and Marlo are fantastic hosts who have thought of everything. We would happily stay here again!

Amazing getaway
We absolutely loved this property! The owners were very helpful and sent a detailed email about the main things we would need to know and there was a binder with more information about the property and neighboring towns. We were pleasantly surprised to open the fridge to a wonderful bottle of local Bowman white wine and 2 chilled glasses.
The pantry was stocked, the wood burning fireplace worked well, and everything was clean and welcoming. There were even bowls for the dog! We loved our stay and hope to go back!
