About this cabin rental
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Need to get away from the big city? You have found your retreat! So many things to see and do, without the crowd. River Haven Cabin is nestled right on the beautiful Shenandoah River, with a spectacular year round view. The very name River Haven hints to its warm and cozy place on the river. Life at the cabin is very low key, just the place to relax and take it easy while having the full features of a home at your finger tips. Explore the river or the nearby national parks, all at your own pace. River Haven has something to offer for all who visit.
River Haven is the perfect place to relax. Enjoy a local hike or sit back on our large deck and enjoy the river. River Haven offers all the comforts of home with the advantages of being located by the Shenandoah River. Bring a pole and lures and enjoy our abundant small mouth bass or take the canoe and tour the river.
River Haven is situated on the northwestern portion of a 200 acre farm named Rivercrest that dates back to an original land grant from the King of England. The original deed granted hundreds of acres to the Moyer/Taylor family who were also distant relatives of our 12th President of the United States , Zachary Taylor. While the Taylors amassed most of their holdings through many local business dealings of the 1800’s, the fertile soil and incredible waterfront beauty of Rivercrest always interested the last heir Everet to farm and cultivate the rich soil and produce abundant crops. In the 1960’s, Mr. Taylor sold roughly an acre of riverfront property to a local businessman and soon after River Haven was born. The previous owners of River Haven upgraded and maintained the waterfront retreat and decided to share its peace, quiet, and solitude with the rest of those looking for a retreat away from the stresses of modern day life. And, to this day, these qualities make River Haven such a unique and incredible property and it invites you to feel like a part of the infamous Shenandoah River like no other can offer. As the owners of Rivercrest and now River Haven we are pleased that the two are once again joined together and we are anxious to add our touches to River Haven and for our guest to experience the stress and tension leaving as you make your way down past the historic farm that we and Mr. Taylor love and cherish and find your peace, solitude, and enjoyment in all that River Haven has to offer.

We loved the location. The cottage was comfortable, clean, and had a nice kitchen with enough equipment to cook basically anything. The deck is great. I emjoyed watching all the activity on the water and in the park across the way. The host was thoughful and communicated with us very couteously when it was necessary to remove a tree which had blown down in a storm. Highly recommend this place.

We just returned from our long Thanksgiving 4 day stay. It was perfect! We loved the cottage and it was so cozy. The views were amazing. We enjoyed the hottub, the canoe, fishing and the outdoor firepit was a big hit on our chili nights. I cant say enough about the host. Scot wad amazing from the time we booked until check-out. He was so helpful and responded to all our questions right away. The only suggestion i would make is to bring a folding table. We brought one and it came in handy for our meals and playing games. This was exactly what we hoped for and it really did exceed our expectations!!!

The location of this cabin is wonderful and it was very relaxing to stay there. Scot was great, and helped accommodate an early check in. This place could absolutely be 5 star with a few small updates. Some weatherproof deck furniture would definitely be a plus to replace the grungy deck cushions. There were no screens on the windows or sliding door to let the air in which would have been nice on the cooler nights. The trash can has no cover which might seem petty but I really don’t want to look at our food scraps. The toilet, which others have mentioned, needs at least two flushes every time. The kitchen was also a little lacking and we had to buy some mixing bowls. The overall inside could also use a good scrub. This is not meant to be a bad review just a nudge to step it up a notch to make it amazing.

Clean secluded just a perfect little getaway.

One of the best rentals I’ve experience in my 15 years renting along the Shenandoah. Scot was an excellent host. No complaints! Can’t wait to come back!!

This is the perfect cabin for a family getaway. You can not beat the location right on the water with a dock and canoe. Looking forward to coming back in the warmer months. Scot went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.

The property was exactly as it is posted. Great place to getaway from it all and just relax. You can spend many hours on the huge deck. Plenty of seating, a grill to cook on or the Hot tub to let all your troubles go. Early morning coffee on the deck was my favorite, listening to the birds as the sun rises. In the evening a glass of wine or your favorite adult beverage on the deck is so peaceful, watching the water flow by and see the occasional boater.

Property is exactly as described! Clean, well taken care of and nicely decorated! Scot was quick to respond and goes above and beyond to make your stay perfect! I highly recommend a visit! 😊

Nice location, great decks/dock and firepit. There was a little mud on the walkway to the dock under the house that made it a little slick going to the dock. We had a great time with our 2 dogs enjoying the water and views.

My husband and I rented this property for a weekend getaway and it did not disappoint! You couldn't ask for a better location. Great view of the river, great fishing and an amazing outdoor space. The deck is seriously awesome. Add in the hot tub and the cozy interior and you really couldn't ask for more. The property manager is really great too. Super responsive and he even came and helped us get our car started when we discovered the battery was dead. I can't recommend this lovely cabin enough. We will definitely being going back!

A lovely getaway
We loved staying at River Haven! The location is beautiful and peaceful, we loved that there was no-one around…we could just sit out on the beautiful deck and enjoy the views and the River. My kids loved the canoe and fishing and we enjoyed the hot tub which was ready to go when we arrived! We will definitely be back to River Haven soon! My 18, 16, 13 and 8 year old all enjoyed our stay. We hiked and shopped and enjoyed the older movies at the cabin. There is a train that goes through but it didn’t bother us at all. The driveway is steep but again it didn’t bother us. We also brought our golden doodle and she loved romping around the property. Thank you for a much needed time away….it was just what we needed. Oh, the weather was nice for March! 70’s then 60’s. It only rained one day and we went shopping in Harrisonburg that day.

River view
Awesome...needs a few fixes. Toilet clogged 5 times. Outdoor grill only lite up in spots. Can see outside around the fireplace...needs to be caulked. The view would have been better if the windows were cleaned. Hardwood floors swept but dirty. Quite relaxing I would visit again.

Communication was great with management company. The scenery was beautiful but the sound of the train was loud and annoying at times especially in the early morning.

It was very nice and clean and comfortable. The only thing, was the steep walkway down and up to the cabin. It was very hard to maneuver with a cane.

We had a great weekend at River Haven with family. We spent a lot of time on the river, we brought our own kayaks, but also used the canoe. The fish weren’t biting but we made the best of it. The hot tub was very relaxing sitting on the deck in the mornings and evenings with the crisp fall air. Although the hot tub can only fit 3 adults comfortably. Bring your own fire wood and fishing gear. The only downfall was the lack of plates and dishes stocked in the kitchen, if you are cooking for a large family you will need mixing bowls and storage containers. We know to bring more of our own next time. It’s very secluded, but the train across the river is noisy at times. If we needed anything we just made a short trip to Elkton to stock up on supplies. We also had a hard time finding a tackle shop, so make sure your tackle box is fully stocked. Overall, I would recommend River Haven for a quiet getaway from the hustle & bustle of life.

The manager was very accommodating when we had trouble with our cable. If you like being on the river canoeing or fishing or just for the peacefulness, this is the place for you!

We had a pleasant stay at the river house. The deck is 100% the best feature of the house.

This house has a beautiful view. However it needs cleaning and updating. It’s much smaller than I thought it would be. The TVs did not work, water damage throughout the place, not enough supplies such as trash bags etc... It is a beautiful area and we made the best of it but it wasn’t at all what I pictured.

I loved that it was in the woods right next to the river. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Wonderful spot
We really enjoyed the easy access to the water and the surrounding mountain areas. The cabin had everything we needed. We loved the big deck and having a canoe easily available was a great perk!

Great place for a small group of friends
My friends and I decided to visit the area for a girls’ trip. We had a lot of fun! The house is quite clean and an adequate size for 4 people. We especially loved the large windows and outdoor area. The deck was very spacious and the hot tub was a nice treat. The only issues we experienced was the heating unit and pathway to the house. The heating unit didn’t function very well, and with the large windows it can be challenging to keep the place warm. By night two we had it mostly figured out though. The pathway to the house is quite steep and rocky so make sure you watch your step! Overall, my friends and I really enjoyed the property and will hopefully be back for another visit.
P.S. if you are interested in horseback riding as an activity, I highly recommend Jordan Hollow Stables. It was a blast :D

Loved this place!
Such a great cabin for a weekend getaway with friends, we'll definitely be back! Cozy cabin with a fully equipped kitchen and such gorgeous views.Extra points for the hot tub and fire pit outside, they really were the icing on top of our fantastic stay.
We arrived after an ice storm hit the area so the walkway down to the cabin was SUPER slippery, we were surprised no one warned us or took care of it before we arrived but after contacting they cleared the way. Don't forget to say hi to the nearby farm cows and cat during your stay!

If only the outside was everything!!
Beautiful location. Cannot beat the scenery. Very quiet and peaceful with beautiful views of the river. We booked this for a romantic getaway and for the most part it was a 5. The deck was wonderful and sitting and gazing at the river was very dreamy. The hot tub was fantastic! The fire in the fire pit on a chilly night was a big bonus. So, why am I rating this a 3? Well, inside things go a bit downhill. It rained one day so we thought we would watch a movie - wrong. The DVD player did not work. It said 'bad disc' for 5 different DVDs, including a brand new one that we brought with us. The microwave was a HUGE safety issue. When you opened the door it was loose and when you looked at the end you see that it's cracked. Should not be used - definitely a safety hazard. We would love to stay again but, were disappointed with the disrepair so will look for other locations.

great river hideaway
We had a terrific time at the cabin. It's small but was just right for our group, and the big deck and adjoining firepit area were perfect for hanging out. The canoe was in great shape as well as the dock. Would love to return.

perfect place for our get away. We will be back and can't wait.

not exactly what we expected
Over all we had a good time.. The inside of the cottage was very clean. It does not have central air, only a wall unit, so we had to keep the bedroom door open to keep it cool. Which was not really a problem for us, but I can see where it could be for others. There was no way to lock the door from the inside. The upper deck was quite mildewed and could use some maintenance, but was ok. The hot tub didn't get hot until the second day, so we ended up not using it. It is also located on the rear corner of the deck as apposed to over looking the river which seemed odd. The stairs to the lower deck are more like basement steps and have very poor lighting. We were concerned about snakes ect. since it was a dark damp area to walk through. The Canoe was stored up under the house so we opted not to mess with it.
