About this apartment rental
This apartment cottage is named in memory of King George III, who came to visit Sudeley Castle & Gardens on several occasions in the late 18th Century. Converted from the old forge on the Sudeley Estate, George III is ideally situated for exploring this fascinating part of the Cotswolds. Walking routes run from the door and you are a short distance from the village of Winchcombe and the delights of Sudeley Castle. This apartment cottage has open walls of Cotswold stone, sloped ceilings and original beams and views across the shared lawned garden to the treeline beyond. You will see walkers pass along the Windrush Way which runs behind the cottages.
This spacious, dog-friendly cottage has a large open plan living area across the ground floor. There is plenty of space to spread out and enjoy your own hobbies but also to gather for a meal or around the TV together. Upstairs two double bedrooms nestle beneath the eaves with a family shower room.
The terrace offers a section with seating just for George III and the shared lawn is perfect for dogs and the children. Enjoy this fantastic location, venturing further afield to the towns and villages of the Cotswolds as well as Sudeley Castle and the pubs and restaurants of Winchcombe on your doorstep.
Ground Floor
Living/Dining/Kitchen Area:
A bright, well-lit open plan area, furnished with country cottage fabrics, makes up the downstairs floor of George III. The sitting area has two comfortable sofas and an armchair so everybody has space to stretch out and enjoy a film or flick through a magazine. The fully-equipped kitchen overlooks the main courtyard and has a country-cottage feel, with fresh off-white coloured cabinets and wooden work surfaces. The kitchen has everything you will need for your stay including an oven/hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer toaster, kettle and Nespresso coffee machine. A dedicated dining area has a round table seating four.
First Floor
The staircase to the first floor splits in two with one side accessing bedroom one, and the second taking you to bedroom two and the family bathroom. You will pass an image of George III and it's worth pausing to admire the old construction methods on show in the beams.
Bedroom One:
This is the largest bedroom and is furnished with an oak frame standard double bed, bedside tables and individual overbed lights with reading and room lighting. This bedroom has a handy dressing area with a chest of drawers and a hanging cupboard - also the perfect place to set up a little one’s travel cot.
Bedroom Two:
The Old Forge’s impressive, but low, original oak beams are the centrepiece in bedroom two. Furnished with an oak frame standard double bed, bedside tables and individual overbed lights with reading and room lighting and a full-length mirror.
Family Shower Room:
Adjacent to bedroom two is the family shower room, with a large walk-in shower (with a fixed over-head rain shower and detachable handheld shower head) toilet, sink and heated towel rail.
Outside
Guests of George III share a lovely wooden decking area that looks out over a communal garden lawn and a footpath that leads to Sudeley Castle. Each apartment has its own seating area with table and chairs for 4 guests.

George III is a truly lovely cottage in a fantastic location. Every consideration was given to make for a comfortable stay - and the welcome pack was most welcome! I wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend!

We were attending an event at Sudeley castle , the cottage is really convenient to walk to both the castle and the town. It was very clean with all we needed for it long weekend. And the inside and outside seating great for chilling out after a long day. Have booked again for the same event next year.

George III at Sudeley Castle is a cosy, well appointed cottage. There is plenty of room for four adults downstairs both for relaxing and eating. The patio area is spacious although the gate doesn’t shut and our pooch did escape. Upstairs is a different matter. The supposedly double bedroom next to the bathroom is so small we couldn’t even get our suitcase in. With no wardrobe or hanging space at all we had to use the second bedroom which although more spacious had beams so low it is impossible to stand up. Mind your head - it got me several times!

To stay in one of the Sudeley Castle cottages is an experience, ideal to just chill out or see more of the area.

Beautiful setting amongst trees and location is a rural idyll .We stayed for the Giffords circus which was steps away on the estate and dined under the stars with them at Circus Sauce returning to sit outside on the terrace and under a canopy of stars … a sense of place indeed ✔️
A couple of notes - we were a mixed party and would have loved a manual coffee maker /cafetière for morning coffee and we all enjoy herbal teas/tisane so we’re surprised by the provision of just PG Tips !! However we brought our own but sadly could not make real coffee for our morning delight -so a more modern take on welcome pack might be a good tip for others too !!

Stayed with wife, baby and in-laws. Clean throughout. Spacious downstairs. Well equipped kitchen. Low and angled ceilings in bedrooms only reason for 4/5 in comfort. Unfortunately, weather and busyness precluded us from enjoying the what looks to be newly decorated outside - but looks wonderful. Lovely touch by owners to leave some basic staples that were much appreciated on our arrival!

George III cottage at Sudeley Country Cottages was perfect. Beautiful and quiet area. Lovely and clean accommodation, had everything we needed. We are so glad we chose to stay here. Parking on-site was perfect as well. Beautiful area to walk around and explore.

I have stayed at Sudeley Castle Cottages approx 30 years ago and always wanted to return, loving the Cotswolds in general and history in particular.
Winchcombe is such a pretty little town, with lots of pubs, shops, and restaurants and with the castle literally on your doorstep, it really was an easy choice to make. :-)
We stayed in George 111 a small but perfectly formed little cottage. There were just the two of us, but being work colleagues ,we preferred the option of a bedroom each, but without a hotel price tag, and a home from home environment. It was perfect, with everything that you could possibly need for an enjoyable stay. Lovely and clean and cosy with added extras like tea, coffee, biscuits, mints, toiletries, and dog blankets. My friend was very impressed that a tea pot and toast rack were included. :-)
Beds were super comfortable and there were plenty of toiletries and quality white fluffy towels.
The table and chairs on the outside decking area was a nice touch and it was lovely and peaceful sitting there with a morning cuppa listening to the birds and watching the sheep strolling up to the fence. A public walkway was spitting distance from our front door that took you on to the Sudeley Castle estate within minutes, and the complimentary entry was a bonus.
Walking into the village took minutes but there is a steep hill in Castle Street which could be problematic for those with mobility issues - don't forget your torch.
No negatives at all, but i think a visitors' book would be a nice touch for visitors to give recommendations for pubs, restaurants and things to do.
Also, with the downstairs being lino, floorcovering a nice rug or carpeted in the living room area would make it cosier.
Would definitely revisit.

It was lovely staying in a historic converted cottage with great facilities. A great bonus was free entry to Sudeley Castle. We had the added bonus of decking so we were able to eat outside when weather permitted.

Have been staying at this particular cottage for a number of years with no issues, unfortunately on this particular occasion the response of the Sudley Castle customer service was not acceptable.

The cottage was very comfortable

Delightful, well-appointed, sparklingly clean cottage in a lovely quiet location just a few minutes walk from the shops and pubs. Leave your car in the dedicated car park and forget about it for a few days as there are plenty of fantastic walks, long and short, directly from the doorstep. I highly recommend a stay here.

This cottage is in a great location - a couple of minutes walk from Winchcombe High Street and yet in a quiet setting on the grounds of Sudeley Castle. It is tastefully furnished and well equipped. Beds are very comfortable, shower is great and tea, coffee, pint of milk and jams are provided. There is also the added bonus of free entry to the Castle (a saving of £19.50 per adult). The only, very slight, negative was the outside furniture which needs a proper clean. We didn't need to use the furniture, but it would be worth sprucing up for the summer.

We had a lovely short stay here as a family of 4 with our dog too. Plenty of space indoors with everything we needed to feel at home and enjoyed having a coffee or two overlooking the small garden and fields. Lots to do right on the doorstep from country walks, exploring the town and visiting Sudeley castle which is a 5 minute walk across the field. Can’t wait to come and stay again.

The accommodation was charming - very comfortable and clean. Perfect location and Winchcombe is a lovely town with great pubs. The dog walk from the property was stunning!

As always, accommodation was clean, cosy and well equipped with lots of different little touches.
We did on this occasion have an issue with the TV and couldn't get any channels on, which has not happened before.
Our 3rd stay here and will be booking again for next year, lovely time had by all.

This is a very well planned design with all the comforts of home a few points you need to adjust relates to external lighting which not too good with so many steps

We have stayed at this cottage many times, it is perfectly situated to explore the Cotswolds. Highly recommended.

We booked a last minute getaway and found this fabulous find! Wanting to be in the heart of Cotswold life this little cottage was everything we wanted and more. Right in the heart and very central for visiting the Cotswold. The village was lovely, amazing walks,we took our dog and the estate is lovely to walk through with lots of friendly locals and dogs! Local pubs all very good, great food and very friendly. The accommodation was of a very high standard with everything you need and nice little touches.
If I had one small negative it would be the beds, small doubles and very warm bedrooms but in the cottages defence we are use to a superking!
Would definitely visit again and recommending to friends.

Really enjoyed our three nights at George III. Lovely location, although We were pleased we were not any nearer to the building work going on, which must have been quite noisy for some of the other cottages.
Our cottage was very well equipped for anything we needed, and being able to visit the Castle and gardens for free was a real bonus

Great location
Location excellent within walking distance of the castle and it’s attractions. Great local pubs and restaurants on the door step. Short drive to all that the Cotswolds has to offer.
Very basic accommodation, although a kitchen that has all a family will need. Lots of steps before you reach the property from the footpath and more steps directly to the front door. Tricky for anyone with mobility issues or young children. The interior of the property has more steps to negotiate across the top of the staircase to reach the bathroom from one of the bedrooms.
The floor coverings look tiered throughout the property. Outdoor wood furniture is rickety and needs replacing.
Overall great location but basic accommodation.

lovely stay, great location and comfortable clean property
Perfect location for walking from the door many of the paths around Winchcombe. Accommodation was very well equipped, crisp white bed linen and fluffy white towels. We were blessed with very good weather, enjoying breakfast on the veranda . I would highly recommend the property and would return to use again. Plenty of good places to eat in the town and staying in the cottage gives you free entrance to Sudeley Castle too.

Very pleasant house in self cathering. Very pleasant stay, we had two seasons, spring and winter in 3 days.

A very pleasant stay
Having stayed here before in 2019 we knew that it would be a suitable place for us to meet up with a relative as a half way point for all of us. The cottages are a short stroll into Winchcombe so very convenient for eating out. The cottage was extremely well equipped and comfortable and our only slightly negative comment is that the decor is looking a bit ‘tired’ with chipped paintwork in places. The outside decking too needs a bit of TLC.
We spent a very relaxing few days and would definitely consider visiting again.

Excellent Short Break for Family
Wonderful dog friendly accommodation in the heart of Winchcombe
Clean and with more than the average accommodation facilities, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee machine with tablets and pods provided to make them usable, High quality fixtures & fittings and good space to relax in. So much better than a hotel room for a family stay.
Dog friendly extends to the amazing countryside that is mostly common land around the castle and footpaths around the town that are literally on the doorstep.
Only marked down comfort as at 6'4 I had to mind my head upstairs as bedrooms have low beams to watch out for.
Not all of the cottages on the site are dog friendly so check as you book. It is an extra £20 per night for the dog so can add up if staying more than a few nights.
Fully recommend and will book again

Great location Good enough accomadation.
The location was excellent there where two foot paths right outside and the village was a minutes walk away. The accomodation was good enough but there was a whiff of the conversion having been done down to a price, a few fitments where loose or poorly fitted, the shower doors didn't shut properly so water went on the floor. It was all just a bit too durable, the floor downstairs was hard and cold the sofas where a little hard and uncomfortable the lighting all or nothing, but it was okay. The check in and out times are 4 and 10 but they were good enough to let us in at 12 as no one was there previously.

Home from home
We stayed for just two nights but it was so much nicer than a hotel or bed and breakfast, it really did fell like home from home. Everything you need (apart from food) is provided and it’s a 5 minute walk into the centre of the town with plenty of places to eat.

Great location
Cottage was just as described online, and the floorplan layout was a great help. Pre-arrival information was spot on and also very helpful. Location was perfect for us- just a short walk from the high street and amenities, and ample parking. Enjoyed having the complimentary entrance to Sudely Castle which was fascinating and def worth a visit.

Really enjoyed our two night stay. A perfect base for exploring all that the Cotswolds has to offer. Sudeley Castle is well worth a visit and such a bonus to have the entrance fee included in the cost of the stay!! We shall definitely return!!

Pretty good, but...
First, the location is fantastic, just a short walk into the village and all its amenities, lots of walking trails, also a short walk through fields to the Castle (though beware - VERY muddy if recent rain). The condition of such an old building is pretty good, and it was warm and fairly sound-proof when the windows are closed. It could do with a bit of refreshing e.g. some mouldy seals around the shower and water damage around some sinks, and the sofas cushions could use more rigorous cleaning, but really it was very good for a dog-friendly accomodation, which is very nice to have.
The main problem we had was discovering upon checking in that the fridge-freezer wasn't working - it was warm, and the freezer bins were full of water. A maintenance man wasn't able to come around until after hours. He went the extra mile by offering his own electric cooler bin for immediate use for the food we had brought, and then found an old, small replacement to tide us over until the main one was fixed, which didn't happen over our stay. The work-around was very appreciated, but I'm surprised that I've heard nothing back from Bolthole about this - not even an apology, let alone any sort of good-will gesture like a tiny bit of a refund or anything for our inconvenience.
Finally, just a word of warning for anyone with sensitivities to fragrances: whatever they use to clean their linens etc is super strong. Bring all your own bedding, pillows, and towels, and some sort of water-proof mattress protector that you can throw away afterwards because you'll never get the scent from the bed out of it, no matter how many times you wash it.

Clean and well kitted out. Warm with very comfortable bed.
Good base for walking.
Worst bit is having review rejected because it was tok short!!!!!!

Our stay at George 111 23/12/20 - 28/12/2020
Overall a really nicely appointed cottage. Good quality fixtures and fittings, washer/drier, dishwasher, toaster, microwave, lovely rainforest shower, comfy beds.
Nice touch to have a bottle of Prossecco and chocolates as a welcome. Also to be provided with milk, coffee, loo rolls, coffee pods, and other essentials as a starter.
We stayed over the Christmas period and we even had a decorated and illuminated Christmas tree in the lounge when we arrived, fantastic!
A few niggles - to access the cottage you need to climb a series of steps, unfortunately these are poorly lit and are a hazard in the dark and wet. Take care with the toaster - the whole body gets very hot when in use which makes it difficult to remove your toast. Kitchen tap leaks at joint and requires attention. White paintwork needs touching up in a few places. Could be difficult to access the site in heavy rain as Castle street is prone to flood in heavy rain, which would prevent access by car, whilst we were there the road was closed for 24 hours.
We had a really good experience and would happily stay there again in the future.

Superb short break
We have been to the George 111 cottage several times and have never been disappointed with its location, comfort and cleanliness. Open the front door and you are on the Sudeley Castle estate with access to a number of walk pathways. Already planning to book the cottage again for 2021.

A lovely break
We went to this cottage for a few days of escape from the present world.
It was everything we hoped for - the location is perfect and we had some lovely walks.
The cottage is homely and we felt very relaxed from the moment we got there.
The kitchen was spotless and provided everything we needed.
A wonderful place. We will return.

Comfortable cottage in lovely location
We had a lovely week's stay at George III. The cottage was immaculately clean and thoughtfully kitted-out. The welcome pack of jams, biscuits and milk we appreciated on our arrival. The setting, a short walk from Winchcombe's high street, was close to everything, but still quiet and relaxing.

High quality accommodation
Our stay at Bolthole cottages exceeded expectations! We really appreciated all the details that made this accommodation so comfortable: great pressure/hot water in shower, excellent variety of kitchen utensils, large flatscreen telly, blackout blinds/curtains on all windows, quality appliances, welcome pack with fresh milk in the fridge, plentiful towels etc. We had an issue with the heating which was resolved quickly by the onsite caretaker. Simple checkin w/ key box & plenty of parking. Town of Winchcombe is a 3 minute walk with cute shops, pubs, eateries. Short walk to the lovely Sudeley Castle which you can access freely during your stay. Don’t hesitate to book a stay here!
