About this house rental
The excellent location of this house in the heart of the historic center, very close to shops and restaurants, but in a very quiet small square, allows you to visit most of the most important monuments of Sintra on foot.
(Palácio da Vila is just 200 meters away, Quinta da Regaleira is 700 meters away, Seteais Palace Gardens are 1.1 km away, Pena Palace and Gardens are 2.1 km away, Moorish Castle is 2.3 km away and Monserrate Palace and Gardens are 3.3 km away).
Recent renovation of a mid 1800’s house, this lovely duplex features decorative paintings on the walls and offers all the amenities you will need during your stay in Sintra.
The first floor has an open space with a double chaise longue, a double day bed, window seat and a well equipped open-plan kitchen. Also in this floor you can find a bathroom with double sinks and a spacious shower as well as a closed veranda overlooking Sintra’s “Palácio da Vila”, where you can enjoy a drink while watching the sunset after a long day discovering Sintra.
In the attic, you will find a cosy bedroom with twin beds and two large windows overlooking the village plaza and surrounding countryside (maximum ceiling height 1,75 meters)
This house accommodates up to 4 persons (the living area contains a day bed that can easily provide 2 additional sleeping accommodations) and is specially indicated for couples and small families. A cot may be added, on request, at no extra charge.
Sintra: Few places in the world can envoke a sense of magic and mystery as does Sintra. From magical forests to romantic palaces Sintra never fails to seduce. Described by Lord Byron as “Glorious Eden,” Sintra’s charms have long been celebrated. Once the summer residence of the kings of Portugal and of the Moorish lords of Lisbon before them, today Sintra is a romantic getaway for people from all around the world. The UNESCO Committee decided to inscribe Sintra as a World Heritage Site at the category of Cultural Landscape, because: 'the site is of outstanding universal value as it represents a pioneering approach to Romantic landscaping which had an outstanding influence on developments elsewhere in Europe.'
This magical place is dominated by steep mountains and lush forests which create a microclimate, always several degrees cooler than Lisbon. Hosting beautiful palaces with neo-gothic towers, a visit to Sintra is a must
Other ways to discover in Sintra: In addition to the usual activities, we also suggest:
Take a trolley ride from Sintra to Praia das Maçãs;
Visit a wine cellar, 'Adega Regional de Colares';
Take afternoon tea at Lawrence's Hotel (the most ancient hotel in Iberia peninsula);
Drink water in the fountain, 'Fonte da Sabuga' (whoever drinks this water will surely return to Sintra);
Specially for the children, visit 'Quintinha Pedagógica' in Monserrate Park.

Wonderful property in the old town centre but quiet too. Has great views of the Sintra palace, the castle and the town hall plus the quaint cobbled back streets. It was good to meet Silvia the owner who was lovely and very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend staying here . ( Yes you will bump your head in the bedroom as it's the attic). We loved our stay here and if we return to Sintra would stay here again .

We enjoyed our stay very much - everything was perfect in the apartment which we only can recommend. Views are scenic. Our host Silvia was extremely kind, she takes so good care of her guests. We’re coming back. The area so beautiful - and great for hikers also.

Right in the center & beautiful view. Suggestions: bring any needed groceries with you, walk up behind Tacho Real for Uber rides to Pena, and playground down the steps. Will recommend!

They say that a 5 star rating should be given if the host is responsive. Silvia was more than responsive (I won't say all she did so that people don't take advantage of her!) Best host we've had ever. The description of the apartment is 100% accurate. Wonderful views (the main reason we took it), great location in Sintra historical center...easy to walk or hire a guide wherever you want to go. Two (minor) negatives -- as the description states, the bedroom is in the attic/loft, and it's not possible to stand up. Took a few days to get used to. The other (for longer stays) is that the laundromat and grocery are more than 1 km/1 mile away -- a bit of a slog when loaded down, though after the first time we were able to figure out the best way to go and it got easier. Would recommend both this apartment and also Sintra.

Fantastic location in the heart of old town Sintra. Incredible hand painted murals and paintings on walls, views are magical…fantastic stay!

This apartment was perfect for us. It was even better than the photos and the location was perfect. We would definitely stay here again and I highly recommend it.

This property was nothing short of perfect for us. We got turned around finding it, but the owner was quick to get back to us. The views are amazing. The home had everything we needed a nice and small kitchen which had basic necessities. We found a small mini mart to grab some water, milk, cereal and snacks right up the hill. Location couldn't be more perfect! Short walk to the stores and restaurants. You can grab a Tuk Tuk ride either by the Palace or up the hill. We walked to the Quinta da Regaleira and wandered around enjoying the sights and side streets. The traffic patterns have changed so keep that in mind when finding a parking spot. We had to go around 3 times in order to find a spot, but we were well aware of that situation when we got there. Once we parked everything was walking distance and we didn't have to move the car until we went to Lisbon. My kids (3 and 6) favorite part were the views. When we would come in at night or right after breakfast they'd sit on the bench in the living room or seat in the side room and ask for us to open the windows and they'd just hang out people watching and taking in the sights! My daughter loved pointing out the Morrish Castle from the window every chance she got. Would definitely recommend!

Apartment
The owner, Silvia was very nice and accommodating. The apartment was nice, clean and. comfortable. The bedroom I believe was once a loft space and the ceiling was very low, kept knocking our heads.
Sintra was nice but you had to be very fit, no good for wheelchairs users.

The apartment is great and in a perfect location. I would reccomend it to anyone staying in Sintra.

Sintra
The property is truly in the heart of the old town, overlooking the Palace: ideal for cafes, restaurants, and wandering this lovely, historic place. But it is also quiet and peaceful in the evenings, once the day trippers have departed.. Silvia and Mario were so helpful, meeting us just after our arrival and recommending many useful places to visit and practical points about the accommodation - thank you.

My hostess was very communicative and very helpful with questions and suggestions. The apartment was well appointed, very clean and in a quaint area right in the heart of old Sintra (basically a couple of blocks away from the palace). I loved it. I felt very secure as a lone female traveler. I would highly recommend staying at this "home away".

Silvia made us very welcome and when we arrived very late and there were tea bags and cookies some oil and honey condiments and a bottle of wine. The place was immaculate and the view out of the windows was magical. We made great friends with the owner and staff of the Bacalhau de Vila restaurant, 50 mtrs down the road who are absolutely lovely people. In fact everyone we met in Sintra were so kind. Definitely a place I will return to. One suggestion, if you have a hire car, I found the only place (and it's free) to park was opposite Restaurante Dona Maria on the N375 which is the one way street at the top of R Costa do Castelo. It is impossible to park there from 09:00-18:00 but after that if you park your car near the recycle bins and go up every 20 mins (don't leave it too long unless you are in a parking slot) you will probably find someone moving out of the free spaces. It's worth the small bit of effort and the exercise counts towards your 10,000 steps to keep you healthy. ;-)

A cozy, well-equipped apartment in the historic centre of Sintra, next to the crowded tourist alleys and attractions but very quiet at night. Silvia, the owner, was very welcoming and helpful before and during our trip.

Fairy-tale land
Our family loved staying in what seemed to be a home and small village right out of the pages of a children's book. Every view from any of the windows was picture perfect. Our family truly enjoyed our time here. This little village "old town" was buzzing during the day as day visitors from Lisbon came in but as the day came to a close the little streets were quiet and so peaceful. All of this and the fact that Silvia is an absolute sweetheart. She was so helpful and easy to communicate with from the booking process all the way to our departure. Thank you Silvia! XOXO

Best Spot in Old Sintra
We absolutely loved the place. First off, Old Sintra has stairs and this apartment also has stairs so know that up front-end your good. Walk those small alley ways to the shops and restaurants 50ft. from your door. A fully restored, lovely old building, with excellent views and those cool breezes that Sintra is known for. Silvia, (our landlord) couldn't be nicer. Thank you, Silvia for helping make our trip to Sintra a lifetime of memories.

Bedroom has two single beds with low sloped ceiling on either side. Only place to stand was in dead center. Fine for me, I’m 5’6” but my partner is 5’10” and he could not stand up. Hardly Romantic

Great property and hospitality
Silvia had tea and cookies waiting for us after our long day of travel. The place was clean and charming, with paintings decorating the walls. The sleeping area upstairs has a low ceiling, not too comfortable for a tall person. The kitchen is adequate and well appointed, though small. We were not tempted to make our own meals. Great location if a little hard to find at first.

A Perfect location in the heart of Sintra yet quiet and comfortable
A beautiful sanctuary in the very middle of the exciting center of old Sintra. Beautifully decorated, comfortable furnishings, unforgettable views. The best is when the bulk of the tourists leave and the deserted cobblestone streets are there to wander, taking you back in time. The restaurants very cozy serving incredible food. One in particular, a new restaurant named Villa 6, right around the corner from the apartment, was fantastic, owner chef and his partner were friendly and made us feel like locals. Silvia was more than helpful going out of her way to help us and make suggestions. I highly recommend this beautiful apartment to anyone Lucky enough to visit Sintra.

Beautiful, stylish apartment in a fantastic location with a great outlook over the Palace in Sintra
The apartment was an ideal base to explore the sights of Sintra. A quiet and cool sanctuary after a hot day - especially having coped with all those steps up to the Castelo dos Mouros! Silvia was very welcoming and suggested many places to see on the second part of our holiday heading South. Thank you! Charlotte & Paul

A lovely hideaway in the heart of historic Sintra
We spent several nights here exploring the sites of Sintra. Silvia and Mario have made a beautiful restoration of this hideaway; it feels like a privilege to enter this house, away from the tourist fray that is daytime Sintra. The kitchen and bath are well appointed, beds comfy, rooms are cozy with plenty of seating options. If you're tall, you'll need to watch your head in the upstairs sleeping area. We loved stepping out into the heart of things.... breakfast at Priquita l on most days (Priquita ll on Wednesdays, we learned). There is an ATM close by, as well as a tiny supermarket tucked away (you can see if from the back room, the L- shared passage way you overlook, it is right at the corner of the L) where you can find ground coffee, milk, etc (recommend this option over the mini marts nearby and closer than the Pingo Dolce if you are on foot). A terrific place to eat, a nice stroll down the hill, is A Raposa. This rental is incredibly quiet for its location and the views from every window are postcard worthy. Highly recommend this rental for your time in Sintra if you are one or two, possibly 3 folks traveling together.

Absolutely magical!!
My husband and I stayed at Silvia and Mario's apartment for 7 nights and were overwhelmingly pleased with the entire experience. Sintra is a magical location, and a wonderful home base from which to explore the surrounding area. We rented a car at the Lisbon airport and made the 45-minute drive to the apartment. Finding a parking spot in Sintra can be a bit tricky, but we found that if we drove the loop on the main road through town a couple of times, a spot would open up on the road along the wall above the apartment--this gave us a great chance to get acquainted with the layout of the town as well. The apartment is in the heart of the historic town center, with a fairy tale-like labyrinth of cobblestone corridors housing restaurants, shops, and markets. We found everything we needed for our stay within a stone's throw of the apartment; the apartment itself is thoughtfully renovated and equipped with modern comforts including wifi, a coffee maker, tea kettle, hair dryer, and plush robes. Mario graciously arranged to stop by the apartment on the first night of our stay to offer helpful hints and answer any questions we had. Silvia was very quick to respond to my numerous emails before and during the stay--she and Mario did an excellent job in making our stay in Sintra a fantastic experience! As there were so many interesting things to do and see in Sintra, we toured around the town by foot and via the Hop-on Hop-off bus for the first three days of our stay. We rode the train into Lisbon one day (the train station is within easy walking distance of the apartment), and drove our rental car to Obidos and along the coast on other days of our stay. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone interested in experiencing a truly unique, welcoming stay in an amazing setting.

Perfect location as a palace neighbor
This comfortable apartment, perched on the hill just across from one palace, and downhill from another, was a terrific spot for a traveling couple over the New Years holiday. Close to nearby attractions, but not in the middle of the tourist center, we enjoyed a restful holiday. The owner was delightful and helpful, and made it easy getting to and finding the property. SO much better than staying in a hotel!
Note that this is not the place to stay if you have any mobility challenges, as there are steep paths to the apartment, and a couple of staircases to navigate within the property.

A Lovely Find!
We felt so lucky to have found this artistically decorated apartment in the very center of Sintra! The owners were so helpful. They atranged a taxi to take us to and from the airport, personally explained how everything operated in the apartment and even left fruit, tea and cookies. Out of every window we were greeted with a breathtaking view. What a find! We were so in love with the location( right across the street from the Sintra Palace)and the ambience of this place that we extended our stay for two extra days.

Storybook Property in Storybook City
My teenager daughter and I stayed in this very charming rental for four nights, and genuinely, I can not imagine a more appropriate or magical place to stay in Sintra. Perched above the lovely town, every single window offers a postcard-worthy perspective. The sights are literally at your doorstep (and actually the best place to observe sunset is a two-minute walk), and yet, the second your turn the corner into your sweet hideaway the crowds and sounds disappear. Added to this were the lovely biscuits and other staples, comfy beds and seating, and a fine shower. Really a unique and beautiful place to stay and we loved it.

Cozy, magical and great location
We had a wonderful stay in this Sintra apartment which had every modern convenience needed, in a house dating back to the 1500s. The location cannot be beat (once you find it!), and no detail has been spared. We stayed for 3 nights and each day marveled at some new creative use of space or artistic touch. Silvia and Mario were very responsive to all of our communication needs, and made our stay very easy. We traveled with our two children (now adult aged), and opted to chose our sleep space based on height.
For restaurants, proximity to historic restaurants, shops and sites, this can't be beat. It feels very special to be able to step into your private space, amidst people milling about photographing the streets and architecture. The evenings are quiet enough, and we thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful music rising up from a nearby restaurant.
For those who come by car, our advice would be that it is easiest to park above the area where the apartment is located. We always managed to find a space, and after 5:30 we never had any trouble finding a spot for the night. What worked well was to see sites in morning and early afternoon, explore beaches in the later afternoon, and come back to town for the evenings.
There are a couple of good restaurants up that way - we loved Dona Maria for both food and terrace view, and Tacho Real was awesome.
Hope to make it back there soon, and would gladly stay in Silvia and Mario's place again.
