The house has all the amenities of home, and then some, including a washer, dryer, dishwasher, central air, and a well stocked cook's kitchen. The location is very serene and calming. 2023 marks the Hideaway’s fifth anniversary. We have hosted marvelous folks from all over. Lockdown refuges. Digital nomads and wedding guests galore. Writers and artists. Broadway actors. Honeymooners. Friendsgiving groups. Conference attendees. Countless children, dogs, and nature and recreation enthusiasts. Folks displaced by home renovations. Area home searchers. We have been told of multiple engagements made in the house and gazebo, and about countless happy family holidays and ski trips. It’s been a blast. We are always adding amenities and upgrades to the house, so it keeps getting better and cozier with each passing year. We thank our many amazing guests to date and are looking forward to hosting YOU!
Hey upstate lovers, come hideaway! Just a few hundred feet from the wildly picturesque and trout filled Esopus creek, you'll find a special spot where lasting memories are made. The Hideaway is 100% LOCALLY owned and operated by your host Amy (yes, also proudly woman owned too!) and is equally ideal for romantic getaways, (congrats to the couples recently engaged here!), family vacations, gatherings of friends, or solo adventurers. This is a place where the pressures of daily life can be left behind, a place very well suited for relaxation, but near every wonderful recreational activity the Catskills has to offer. Countless guests have complimented the house's coziness and comfy vibes, along with its quiet and private nature, thanks largely due to the trees and mature hedges surrounding the perimeter of the property, surrounding a very beautiful and lush park-like yard. It is so relaxing to sit outside on one of the swings or chaise lounges, or to open up the windows and listen to the sounds of nature and the roaring creek. The house’s decor has a little retro flair, but with a clean and stylish contemporary feeling, exuding warmth and homeyness. Natural light fills the house, adding to its airy nature. Families also seem to appreciate how much room there is for the kids to spread out, and that it is very safe, and how even the family dog is welcome to join the fun! Please see below for doggie guest guidelines/info. If romance is in the air, how about blazing a fire in the wonderful smokeless Solo Stove in our fire pit under starry skies after dining al fresco in the gazebo? The well-stocked kitchen is a joy to cook in, and coffee lovers, since life without good coffee is not a life I can imagine at all, you'll find waiting for you good beans, a grinder, a French press, as well as a traditional drip brewing pot. Have it outside, or in the sun-filled dining room. New for 2023: inside we have added a gorgeous Hunter green enameled cast iron gas fireplace, making the already cozy ambience even more warm and inviting.
The Hideaway is full of modern amenities like a Level 2 electric car charger, a full house automatic generator, and super high speed wifi and a large screen 65 inch smart TV where you can log into Netflix and such with ease, but also has lots of sweet little homey touches too sprinkled around the house. For some old-school down time, make sure to check out my extensive collection of classic board games and large library of books on the Catskills and Hudson Valley. There’s also a great vintage style record player and an expansive and eclectic collection of LPs for your listening pleasure. You'll hopefully find my place to live up to its name and a special place you can recharge and reconnect, with nature, yourself and with others. The bridge leading to the storied and very beautiful Woodland Valley area is nestled just steps around the bend. You'll also have lovely mountain views in almost all of the windows from the house. Relaxing and fun at any time of the year, this is without question a four season retreat!
Please note that the sleeping arrangements are as follows: The primary bedroom has a comfy queen bed and the second bedroom has a comfy double bed. A queen air mattress is available for use in the living room, this must be specified in advance.
Doggie guests welcome too, if they are 60 pounds or less each, limit of two. They need to be crate trained for when their mommies and daddies leave the house. Crates and all other supplies must be brought, and there is a fee of $60 per stay per doggie guest. The property is a great place for them though, with lots of room in the yard and open space in the house making it well suited to have them being part of your holiday!
If you're heading to town for a wedding, the Hideaway is just ten minutes to the Emerson, Foxfire House, and Mt. Tremper Arts, and convenient to many of the other area popular wedding sites.
This is also a very good place for a quiet retreat. Menla and the Zen Mountain Monastery are nearby. I'd also be happy to recommend good local spots for yoga, acupuncture, massage or a spa day, and I'll gladly share my most meditative walking spots, just ask. Some of them are heavily wooded old carriage roads where you can walk in the footsteps of John Burroughs.
Good news skiers, Hunter Mountain, Bellayre, and Plattekill ski areas are all short drives from the house, and Windham isn't that much further. Lots of options around too for snow boarding, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, and winter hiking.
Hikers will be in paradise. Some of the finest trails in the Catskills are close by including Slide Mountain, Giant Ledge, Pantherkill, Devils Path, Mt. Tremper, Overlook, and so many more. Phoenicia is home to an easy to moderate short hike, the Tanbark Trail, that leads to an idyllic vista of our town. More experienced hikers may wish to check out the the local trailhead for the famed Long Path, only about a ten minute walk from the Hideaway, and the famed hiking trails of nearby Woodland Valley are about a ten minute drive.
And there are countless other outdoor recreational options. You can walk just two minutes from the house to the mighty Esopus, one of the major tributaries feeding into the New York City water supply system, and find access right there off the bridge for swimming and world class fly fishing.
If you're coming up to check out the area's amazing food scene, the house is close to some of the finest dining in the Catskill Park region including the Peekamoose, Phoenicia Diner, Tavern 214, the Pines, Bear Cafe, and many more. Breakfast lovers, are you in fora treat with the Diner so close by, but also Sweet Sue's and their legendary flying saucer-sized pancakes are two minutes away and also not to be missed. My guide book will also lead you to some of the most insanely good cooked-to-order donuts imaginable.
Two wonderful craft breweries are also close by, Woodstock Brewing and West Kill Brewery. If you're interested in checking out the local spirits scene, outstanding local vodka and cider distilleries are not too far afield either!
Phoenicia has shops and restaurants galore, but you can take day trips to the other happening towns in the Catskill and Hudson Valley regions too. It's also just a 20-minute drive to the most famous small town in America, Woodstock, with its quaint village green and live music scene.
Make sure to check out our outstanding local theater, the Phoenicia Playhouse, and our fantastic art gallery, home of regular art parties and openings. Book far ahead for the amazing Phoenicia Festival of the Voice held held the first weekend in August where you can hear gorgeous operas under the stars. And there are countless other opportunities for culture in the region.
Are you into live music? Woodstock and Kingston both have several venues and a great scene of songwriters and musicians following the traditions of greats like Dylan, Neil Young, and local heroes The Band.
If all of this isn't enough, farm stands and antique stores can be found dotting Route 28, along with no shortage of yard sales from spring through fall. What's not to love?

We enjoyed the house immensely, just as described, very warm and comfortable. So much to do, we brought our bikes so took advantage of the bike trails. We stayed 2 weeks to we spent time in the town of Phoenicia as well as time in surrounding towns, attended a local theater production as well as a music venue in Woodstock and of course went to Bethel woods, site of Woodstock 1969! Met lots of nice people and Amy was an excellent host, informing us of events and things to do in the area…including the rubber duck race! Just an over all good experience.

Really had a great stay at this beautiful home. Kids loved the big living room with comfortable couch. Close to Belleayre and restaurants. Host was very accommodating and super nice! Home has a great backyard when weather is nice. House was updated and very comfortable…gas fireplace was great after a day of skiing…highly recommend.

The house was great. It was spacious and comfortable. The owner added some nice touches like candy to make s'mores. She also left literature about where to go to hike and where to go if you did not want to hike. The house is within 1/2 mile from the Esopus so an easy drive for those interested in fly fishing. Also, the gazebo was so comfortable. A nice place for a morning cup of coffee.

The property and well-appointed house is as described in its Vrbo listing. Located in a small well-kept neighborhood of modest (no ostentatious McMansions) about a mile outside the wonderful town of Phoenicia. What makes this rental special is the friendly host, Amy. Amy lives nearby and knows the area very well and had some great ideas of things to do. Also, she was able to quickly deal with the one problem that did arise. Unless you want to be in town or an isolated house in the woods, this is great option for staying in the area.

Such a great experience, tucked away behind rows of mature trees and hedges was this mid-century styled oasis. It felt comfortable, even on the first night of our 3-night stay...almost like we weren't staying in a stranger's house, but ours. That's because Amy was thoughtful and clear about where everything should be. Need a colander, coffee grinder, switch to turn on outside lights? Super easy to find without hunting for anything.
Beds were fab and very comfortable, and the living room was the dog's woof with the record player (playing Fleetwood Mac) and gas stove...just terrific.
The outdoor space was private and had enough furniture for a family. Having dinner in the gazebo was a treat, and cooking on the gas grill was equally treat-worthy.
This was my first time renting like this, and Amy was able to make it so easy, unpretentious, and something that I'll be surely doing again.

We went to Phoenicia to get in some mid winter cross country skiing and winter trout fishing. There was no skiing as no snow but we had a great time just getting away to Amy’s house and hanging out. The river is a couple minute walk. The house is every bit as advertised including a wonderful brand new gas stove/fireplace which kept the house warm and added a cozy fireplace feel.
We tried out great restaurants and lodges with cool funky vibes.
Amy is a pleasure to deal with and is easily available and more than willing to help you make the most of your trip.

Very cozy property with windows that provide the famed and quintessential Hudson Valley light, does not disappoint! If you are a hiker, this is a great base between the Burroughs Range and the High Peaks with the murmuring, nearby Esopus to lull you to sleep after a long day of journeying. If you are visiting with less athletically minded folk, the backyard and ambience of Phoenicia and surrounding Catkills towns will do more than enchant. Games galore. (Avid scrabble player here.) Turntable with an eclectic selection, but if you know you are coming, bring your own! And a tidy kitchen with everything you need. Amy supplied s'mores which was very generous and appreciated. Will definitely return in the future. Thanks for a great stay!

We loved this vacation! The home was beautiful and had everything we needed. The neighborhood provided great walks with our puppy to view the water and mountain. Phoenicia has a Main Street with fantastic restaurants, antiques and more! Plus there are many interesting places nearby, including Woodstock! The owner, Amy, is the perfect host.

MOST AMAZING STAY EVER
Wow this was truly one of the best houses I have ever stayed at. The house is so well equipped. Super clean. All the essentials you needed including some extra kitchen essentials you don’t always find. She was stocked up with games. A TV in every room. Enough towels for everyone. Comfy bed. Comfy couch. She had fresh strawberries waiting for us in the fridge. And an entire s’mores set waiting for us to create a bonfire. Amy is an amazing hostess. She made sure we had everything we needed to check-in. There is no cell service at all in this area. So it’s important to check your email a day or two before so you have the key code for everything. But once you check in, the WIFi is super fast so you can still use your phone to look things up. Amy had a great list of things to do and made herself fully available if you needed suggestions or had any questions. We stayed during Tuesday trash day and she was very courteous to warn us before, though we probably would have never known because it was done so quietly. The Catskills is an amazing place to visit. You are a 20 minute drive to Woodstock. So much beautiful nature to explore. I can’t wait to go back!!

Cozy Catskills Comfort
Looking for a quiet spot to spend some quality time? The Hideaway is perfect for a lovely vacation in all seasons. We were drawn in by the photo of the cozy gazebo, where we ended up spending plenty of relaxing downtime after a full day of scenic walks and visits to local points of interest. There is so much to do in the area, with many great places to eat, drink and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Phoenicia is a quaint mountain town with shops and eateries just a few minutes away from the Hideaway. A short drive away you’ll also find Woodstock, Kingston, Saugerties and many fabulous hiking trails with gorgeous views of the mountains and Esopus Creek. But the best part is returning to the Hideaway with its park-like yard, cozy living room, well-equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. Whether you choose to use the high speed Wi-Fi and large screen TV or cuddle up with a good book and a few board games, you’ll be very comfortable in this lovely home. Amy is a gracious hostess who will bend over backwards to make sure you have a pleasant stay. Her recommendations of local places and activities were so helpful! For a relaxing vacation, you can’t beat the Hideaway. We definitely plan to visit again!

Super caring host and an awesome stay
We booked the house for a weekend ski trip bringing our kids and a dog. Our host was so communicative with us as there were crazy storms passing through. She offered us a late checkout knowing we might not make it at check in time.the house is super cute with all the touches that make you feel at home. Games galore, coffee and a grinder a big plos and 2 ways to brew!!! I always live that. Pretty much anything you needed was there , even a jar of tootsie rolls that our kids loved. Amy was so helpful with eating choices and with any other questions we had. The location is perfect. You can hear the river flowing which is so soothing. We will be back.

Absolutely Perfect
My parents, fiancee, and I visited Amy's beautiful home for 10 days and we were so incredibly pleased with every aspect of the experience. We felt welcomed and at home the moment we walked in. Not only was the home completely stocked with all the essentials, but there were extra goodies for us (and our small pup!) We were perfectly content spending the days in the *beautifully* landscaped backyard, cooking dinner on the grill, and having drinks in the gazebo. On rainy days it was a huge plus having the smart tv to watch movies and fast wifi to do remote work. The creek 2min down the road is stunning and not to be missed! Really can't say enough good things about Amy's hostessing - she was quick to respond with any questions and had tons of wonderful suggestions for the area. We're looking forward to returning soon!

Cozy Mountain Retreat
We were delighted with our stay. The house was clean, cozy and beautifully furnished. The kitchen was well stocked with supplies and utensils. The huge windows really showed off the stunning scenery. We didn’t want for anything. Amy was a perfect host, responding to any questions immediately and going out of her way to make our vacation perfect. The s’mores supplies were a massive hit with the children! We will be back for sure.
