About this house rental
Escape to the beautiful mountains of Vermont. Our four-season house (now with air conditioning in each bedroom and the living area!) is nestled on a mountainside located near Killington, Woodstock, and Green Mountain National Forest. The house is in a private community that has a recreation area between the White and Tweed Rivers with a swimming hole and 2 tennis courts. Close to skiing, golfing, hiking, and river activities, there is never a bad time of year to visit!
The 3BR / 2.5BA home sleeps 8 and the whole group can fit around the dining room table but there are also two spots at the breakfast bar if preferred. While it fits a group of 8, it is cozy and not too big for just a couple to enjoy on their own.
The upper level of the house is the master bedroom which features a king bed with a Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt Firm* mattress and has its own private bath. There is a sitting area with a desk and reading chair surrounded by large windows which provide beautiful views of the trees. The bedroom has a (smaller) Samsung LED TV with Blu-ray player and Apple TV. Also located in the bedroom is a unique spiral staircase that leads to the sauna.
The lower level has a bedroom with a queen bed and another bedroom with two single over single bunk beds (sleeps 4). There is a full bath on this level along with a half-bath/laundry room combination. There are plenty of drawers, hooks, and shelves for everyone's things.
The kitchen is on the main level of the house and has quartz counters and stainless steel appliances and is well stocked with dishes, pots, pans, knives, utensils, and spices. It has a 5-burner gas stove and a double-oven with convection option. There is also a wet bar around the corner from the kitchen with additional space for beverage making. If grilling is your thing, there is a Weber gas grill on the deck.
Just off the kitchen and dining room area is the living room. It has a wood-burning fireplace insert, couch and recliners, and a Samsung LED Smart TV with Bose soundbar, Apple TV, and Blu-ray player.
The house has ECFiber fiber-optic high-speed internet. So, while there is no cable, there is streaming available through the Smart TV and Apple TV (bring your cable provider login information from home to access your favorite channels). Additionally, the house has a supply of DVDs, board games, cards, puzzles, and books to enjoy.
Please note that there is no cell phone signal at the house, but you can use the Wi-Fi to make calls with a Wi-Fi-calling enabled cell phone or text through iMessage and similar services. We also have a house phone with unlimited calling to the US and Canada.
There is a covered entry to the house that keeps the firewood dry and easy to access. The covered entry also includes racks to hold your skis and a spot for snowboards too. Inside, the foyer has shoe and boot racks and plenty of hooks for coats.
From the house, it is 25 minutes to Killington's Snowshed and Skyeship lodges or to Pico Mountain, 40 minutes to Sugarbush and Okemo, 55 minutes to Mad River Glen, and 90 minutes to Stowe. Close enough to enjoy what each resort has to offer, but far enough away to enjoy the quiet and solitude of the mountains.
This is a non-smoking property and pets are not permitted. Thank you in advance for respecting our house rules, they are very important to us.
Finally, a note from our HOA regarding the community roads in the winter:
"We make every effort to ensure the roads are timely plowed and sanded. However, during ongoing storms our roads (like all steep gravel roads in Vermont) can be treacherous. Members, visitors and guests will likely need good snow tires or chains to travel most of our roadways in snowy conditions, and definitely to access the steeper portions of the road during a storm. Four-wheel drive alone is inadequate on many snowy portions of roads when a car does not have winter tires/snow tires. Tires rated “all-season” for city driving are not considered winter tires/snow tires and will not make it up steeper roadways in a snowstorm.
Reminder: an emergency parking area is located on Timber Hawk Road (at the first open clearing on the right, marked by two wooden posts). This area may be used on a short-term basis when a car cannot make it up the road during a storm.
Be prepared: Anyone driving back roads in winter, especially at night, should ensure that they are equipped with flashlights/headlamps and shoes suitable for walking uphill in the snow.
We expect all owners, guests and renters to drive and act responsibly at all times. If a vehicle becomes stuck or disabled, it poses a risk to plow operators and other drivers. It is the vehicle owner’s responsibility to get it dislodged, at his or her own expense."

A beautiful and unique property. The hosts have gone out of their way to set up the house with all that you need and then some. Thank you so much for sharing the Crooked House with us!

We loved our stay here - it was perfect for our group of ski friends visiting Killington. Holly and Scott have thought of your every need, and the house is extremely well equipped (even had extra toothbrushes for someone that forgot). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Crooked House and would happily go back!

The Crooked House is a perfect getaway. The property is quiet and the house is well maintained. It’s only minutes to the Original General Store in Pittsfield, and about 30 minutes to a number of outstanding restaurants in Killington. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and certainly hope to return on a future trip to Vermont.

We had another fantastic time at the Crooked House. We usually stay in the Winter. This was our first time staying at the Crooked House in the Summer. Very peaceful. Lots of great towns to explore.

The owners have amazing hospitality! The location was just as we hope, secluded and in the mountains, but what really made this property was all the little things the owners provided to make our stay.

What a wonderful, relaxing weekend we had at the crooked house. It had everything my dear friends and I needed: plenty of space to cook and catch up, wonderful hikes nearby, and enough amenities nearby without sacrificing the foresty retreat of the home’s environs.
Most of all, Holly and Scott were so helpful and available for us—our visit came the weekend after extensive flooding in the region, and Holly and Scott were so communicative, generous and helpful, even while they were out of town. We were so glad that the home wasn’t impacted, but were even more grateful for the comfort and peace of mind they gave us.
That’s on top of all the wonderful resources and notes they keep on the property.
And while we were a group of friends reuniting, each of us could easily imagine bringing our future families here. Maybe someday we’ll return in the wintertime with little ones. Thank you, Holly and Scott!

Check in/out were super smooth, and the communication with the host was lovely. The house had a cozy and welcoming feel with its rustic yet super clean modern decor. The hosts made sure we were well taken care of. We enjoyed cooking in the well-equipped kitchen and exploring the beautiful surroundings. It was a peaceful and memorable retreat that left us longing for more nature-filled bonding in the future.

We came up on a Friday with snow and bad driving conditions and the driveway was extremely icy. However, the owners were extremely responsive and got someone to come and sand the roads as soon as possible. We loved our stay!

The house was great. My crew and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the amenities such as the deck and sauna. The house was conveniently located just far enough from the mountain where we’d have some privacy and close enough to a variety of resorts so we didn’t feel too far away from all the fun. However the roads leading to the house were a bit scary during rain/ snow so I’d say be careful and definitely have good tires and 4WD. Overall, we had a great stay and couldn’t recommend this house enough.

If you need a quiet getaway, this is the place. The house is located on the edge of the Green Mountain National Forest and is surrounded by trees. You'll never notice that there are neighbors it's so quiet. The Crooked house is well stocked with everything you could need. Minor inconvenience is that there is no bathroom on the main floor, you must go up or down stairs. Love this place!

The house was great. Instructions for tv's and appliances all over the house. Beds were very comfortable. Hosts supplied paper products and trash bags, coffee and spices. Grocery stores are not close to the house which sits on the side of a mountain, but the hosts supplied directions to nearby restaurants and stores. Great place to use as a base for exploring Vermont. We traveled to Stowe, Burlington, Woodstock, Chester, and many lovely other Vermont towns.

We had instructions posted for all the appliances, tvs, sauna, grill, fireplace, etc. Cabin was fully stocked with every utensil and dish we would ever need. There were games, dvds, and books for our use. They even provided cooking oils and spices and coffee. It was wonderful.

You can tell that Holly and Scott really care about their home and take good care of it. It felt like a home away from home rather than just some income property. They were incredibly kind, very helpful, and responsive as we worked through a little issue that ended up being easily resolved. Thank you both so much!

Our stay at the Crooked House was excellent despite it being the hottest week of the year. Although there was no AC, there were ample fans that kept everyone cool (in addition to the frequent trips to the river that was just a short drive/walk away) . The kitchen was well supplied, the house was extremely clean and well-kept and the wealth of games kept our family entertained throughout our stay. The owners were incredibly responsive to any questions we had throughout the week. Overall, it was a delightful stay and we would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing stay.

Beautiful Mountain Retreat
When we arrived at the crooked house, we were pleasantly surprised by how tucked away it was. Inside, the home was beautiful and incredibly spacious. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in and the hard wood floors throughout made the home seem even cozier. We enjoyed cooking, grilling and making fires each night. Very grateful for our stay at Holly & Scott’s.

College Friends
We were a group of 8 college friends who got together for a lovely weekend in VT, we went to college a little north of the house.
The house was amazing. Super clean, comfortable and plenty of space. We loved the fire place, and how well equipped the kitchen was.
Since ski season is pretty much wrapped up downtown Killington was a little empty. Definitely recommend bringing food/drinks up with you.
Absolutely will be coming back.

The Crooked House is fantastic! We have stayed here twice and will return. We had a group of 7 (4 adults and 3 teens), and the layout was perfect for us. With updated kitchen, bathrooms and a wood-burning fireplace insert, all on a cozy-wooded lot, it is ideal for a getaway during any season.

Love this unique property!
Holly was incredible to work with! We needed a last-minute house for a work trip, and Holly was able to take care of us! The house has a ton of space & was very comfortable. It had a lot of extra bedding, and we loved how secluded it was. We stayed during the winter, but I'm hoping to bring my family back to stay this summer. Was just a 15 minute drive to our work in Bethel, can't recommend this property enough!
