About this cabin rental
Cedarwood Lodge is a mountain cabin on eight forested acres surrounded by the Moshannon State Forest with access to thousands of acres for exploring nature directly from the grounds. Only 4 miles off PA I-80, Exit 111, the cabin provides easy access to Parker Dam and S.B. Elliot state parks and the nearby Elk Herd (Rocky Mountain elk reintroduced in 1913 have prospered) and Elk Scenic Drive. Don't miss the spectacular Mountain Laurel Driving Tour to view the PA State Flower that proliferates throughout the mountain forests each spring.
NEW - July 2024: The internet has come to Cedarwood Lodge via StarLink! Not reliably available in this mountainous area of Clearfield County until recently, StarLink has been successfully installed and provides a strong signal though-out the cabin and surrounding property.
The Lodge is completely equipped including linens, all kitchen needs, microwave, gas cook stove and gas grill, coffee maker, toaster, TV/VCR/DVD (no TV reception), phone, wood burning stove/fireplace, and full bath with tub and shower.
Homemade bread, and sweet rolls or muffins are provided for your first morning's breakfast. Coffee and tea provided.
Deer, turkey, foxes, and an occasional bear can be observed making their way past the Lodge. Enjoy dark skies with easy access to the 'middle of nowhere' - just a 15 minute drive (12 miles) to Clearfield or 20 minute drive to DuBois.
It is easily accessible from the main highway, yet provides privacy and a feeling of seclusion. The Lodge is a great place for family get-togethers, a romantic get-away for two, or a gathering of friends.
Some comments from our guests:
'...But the best things were the walks along the logging roads, beaver ponds, flowers starting to bloom, and the peace and tranquility of the backwoods.' Ralph, Nancy, Tucker, Keisee and Marlie, from Novelty, Ohio
'Our drive was 5.5 hours, but it was worth it. We are sad to leave this hideaway to return to the stress of the city.' Amy and Pete from New York City
'We wanted to renew our friendships, enjoy nature, and escape the hustle and bustle of life. We wanted to laugh and talk late into the night. Here at Cedarwood, it all happened.' Barb, Ruth, and Diane from Evans City, PA
'We enjoyed three of the best days of our lives here! This is an absolutely wonderful place.' Chuck and Lori - newlyweds
Although there is not onsite swimming, the cabin is located 2 miles from two state parks which have swimming, boating, nature center, hiking trails of all degrees of length and difficulty. There are beaver dams within walking distance of the cabin.

The cabin was even better than the pictures. It was a great place to relax after festival vending event. It was clean and the scenery was beautiful.

Check with owner first before booking. The owner mentioned VRBO uses AI and things are posted that are not true. No kayak, no river, no white birch trees as listed. We had to vacuum the upstairs bedroom with cobwebs above the bed. You can't open the bottom drawers due to the heater in the way which doesn't matter because they were filled with toilet paper and sheets. We cleaned outdoor chairs with bird droppings on them that have been there for some time. no wifi was mentioned but there is also no internet. The very old and very small tv had a green tent. the remote barely worked. Some condiments in the fridge were out dated. We left a day early and I mentioned all this to the owner who seemed to make excuses and not care too much. I was hoping she would offer at least a one day refund due to the misleading info on the website that she is responsible for checking. I guess that was an unrealistic expectation. I would never go back there again. Not to mention driving by another house with toys, broken down atv and other crap all over their yard, Its a shame, and an eye sore. This was the worst trip I have ever taken. I am upset that VRBO uses misleading information but more upset that the owner was unwilling to make good for it. f

This property was absolutely beautiful. The house was so amazing. We didn't need to bring a thing everything we needed was right there! The house is very spacious and there was room for everyone. The space was amazing it allowed up to have a great game night, watch movies and take walks! Thank you so much for inviting us into your home!

The cabin was wonderful! It had everything you could possibly want or need in a forest getaway: fully stocked kitchen, plenty of washroom supplies, games, movies, books, blankets - it was all the comforts of home in a beautiful forested setting in PA’s Elk country.
Our host was very thoughtful in her communications leading up to our stay, and then again while we were there with well thought out directions for the cabin, how to get around the area - even where the best grocery shopping is and how to get there. She left fresh baked goods in the cabin, along with the lights on in anticipation of a possible arrival after dark. Honestly one of the best rental vacations we’ve ever had - and we’ve had a lot!
It was everything we’d hoped it would be and more. We loved our time at Cedarwood Lodge!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

The cabin was easy to get to with great instruction. The house was well stocked with everything we needed. We spent our evenings out by the fire pit roasting marshmallows and hotdogs and enjoying the fireflies. I recommend this wonderful place to anyone who wants to disconnect for a bit. The upper loft area was really nice.

The cabin was wonderful and a great escape from the hustle of the world. This was a great opportunity for our family (kids 10 & 8) to spend quality time with each without distractions of work and devices! We would definitely book with Peggy again!

This was a lovely cabin that perfectly met our needs. It is secluded and near tons of beautiful hiking. We were so lucky to (accidentally) book around peak foliage in PA making the stay exceptionally beautiful!

Best place we have stayed in the Elk Viewing Area. The location was ideal to access hiking trails at Parker Dam, visit Bilger's Rocks, and easy travel to the Elk Viewing area in Benezette. The location is secluded and quiet. The lodge is well cared for and comfortable.

It’s a great old cabin, clean with most modern conveniences and located central to many area outdoors activities.
Great host as well.
Only cons are that cell service is terrible + there’s no Wi-Fi and that nearby “State park road” has a lot of heavy truck traffic and brake retarders, so it’s not a quiet place to stay.

My sisters and I (with a 7-month baby in tow!) enjoyed our weekend stay at the Lodge. Clear communication with Peggy, clean and comfortable cabin, beautiful location in the PA Wilds.

The cabin was lovely. It had everything you needed for a wonderful weekend away. Cabin was spotless & the grounds were well kept. We had a fun weekend exploring the area. Would definitely stay here again. Peggy made the best sweet breads. Was perfect surprise upon arrival.

The cabin felt secluded but still near enough to town to easily get supplies. The only thing I wish we had was wifi, but other than that everything was perfect!

Nice getaway in the woods
Beautiful cabin with everything you need. Conveniently close to state parks and trails. The cabin has an open layout with lots of windows to let in natural light. The homemade curtains are a neat touch. We loved that the windows had screens so we could open them and enjoy the fresh air. The screened porch is nice, too. We enjoyed our stay here while taking part in a gravel bike race. The only downside was there was no hose available at the cabin to wash our filthy bikes off afterward, but this was easily rectified by a 15-minute drive to a car wash in Clearfield. Highly recommended for a quaint getaway.

A great and relaxing Birthday weekend ; )
What a great place to relax. We had a great time enjoying hiking the trails with our dogs, playing board games and reading books. The weather was great and stars were amazing. We felt right at home in the cabin which was cozy and inviting and the home baked bread and muffins were over the top. Peggy was the best.

Snowy weekend
Peggy was wonderful and accommodating about letting us check in early and check out a bit late because of a snowstorm...10 inches!! The cabin is spacious and charming. She had left sweet bread and homemade bread for us which were both delicious! Someone plowed out our cars after the storm which was wonderful! The last guests didn't clean their dishes very good, which was disappointing but that isn't the hosts fault bc they do request you do your own dishes. The Verizon cell service is not good, so don't count in having service all the time or being able to use a hotspot there. Wifi would make this a 5 star rental!!!

Pre-Christmas Getaway
We loved the cabin. The amenities were clean. Everything was tidy. Plenty of sheets, blankets, pillows, hand soap, toilet paper, paper towels, dishwasher detergent, books, crossword puzzles, etc. The upstairs loft is great. I'm hard of hearing, but it was amazing how easy it was to hear each other between the first and second floors of the cabin. Really nice! The fire pit is great and we made the best campfire ever.
Peggy was very easy to work with and everything that was contained in our email conversation was right on the money. The local area is nice. Parker Dam State Park seemed nicer than the other nearby state park. There are neighbors on either side. The one beyond the cabin is about 80 yards away and I think it is a similar cabin to the one we stayed in. It was vacant. The residence that is passed before the cabin appears to be a year-round residence. It is a little farther away than the vacant cabin. I was hoping that there would be no neighbors. Fortunately, they were very quiet. I've learned not to ask property owners about the neighbor situation because what is "close" to one person might not be to another. Not a big deal since they were cool.
I have two gripes. The first one is not the owner's fault; the nearby main drag (SR 153, I believe) is heavily trafficked with big trucks. The hill is pretty steep and the trucks use their Jake brakes, which are super loud. Fortunately, there are few trucks after evening hours. Few is not none, though. The other gripe is that the downstairs double bed needs to be replaced. It is like trying to sleep on a crooked upside-down taco. The upstairs bed is fine.
4 out of 5!

Nice little getaway
Very cute little cabin with antiques. We drove to benezett about a half hour and saw elk right along the road. We also drove to bilgers rocks the 300 million year old rock formations about 25 min! Close to state parks also!

Cozy little place! Peggy was fantastic also!! The road is easy to miss but we got the hang of it after lots of yelling(not angrilly) and laughs! So close to parker dam and man was it pretty out there this weekend! We will see you next year!

Mercer, PA Guests...September 17-19, 2021
We booked in February 2021 and this was the only property we could find close to Benezette, PA. Approximately a 25min drive. The property was very pretty and private. There was plenty of room for everyone and it was nice having the linens and kitchen essentials available. The homemade bread and muffins were a nice touch! Upon check in, there were flies all throughout the cabin. Could not find a fly swatter, so we just dealt with them. The bed linens were stained and definitely needed replaced. The light fixture above the refrigerator wouldn't work. We weren't aware of the well/water issue, of only being able to use so many gallons at a time and then it would take 55 minutes to reset itself. So it was worrisome, having 5 guests and all. But we ended up not having an issue with the water at all! I also think the fire pit area could use some work or be moved to a better location. It's placed on a hillside which made it difficult to sit on chairs and walk around the fire. I wish we could have stayed longer than just the weekend to explore more of the acreage. Overall nice accomodations!

Very secluded but 2 houses you passed on the lane to the cabin. Very cozy cabin and clean.
The owner is very helpful with what places to go to see the elk and also places to eat, thanks Peggy the Rocky Grill was a wonderful place for our anniversary dinner. How a couple of incidents but they were taking care of. Thanks Peggy for a beautiful place to enjoy our anniversary.

We loved our stay in the cabin. Our family went to spend some time together and view the elk at the Elk Visitors Center in Benezette (approx 20 mins away). We went to the Parker Dam State Park which was close by as well. Didn’t miss the wi-fi as this was not that kind of trip. The owner was very communicative and helpful. We hope to come back again one day!

The property was perfect for a quiet family getaway. There was an issue from a previous renter, but that was rapidly addressed. A very severe storm knocked out the water heater one night and that was also quickly repaired early the next day. So we can confidently say that if an unexpected situation pops up during your stay, the owner will jump to get it taken care of.We had a really, really nice visit.

Nice home-base for hiking
We spent a family vacation at the cabin and visited the nearby state parks and towns. We were able to see a few elk near Benezette, and even saw a young black bear on the drive back. The cabin was clean, comfortable and well equipped, and it was a great homebase for quiet hikes through the forest. No wifi (which was part of the appeal for me), but we got cell service onsight.
