We actually stayed in another room that wasn’t oceanfront (not sure why it shows we stayed in the oceanfront unit), but it did have some ocean view.
Close to restaurants and the town, so walking distance to restaurants and shops. Nice central location for sightseeing - nothing is terribly far (1/2 hour to the north or south is everything).
Listing and photos are accurate.
Note for fellow travelers who haven’t been to Kauai - there are many dirt roads, so if you plan to wander, get a Jeep or SUV so you can easily travel down some pretty bumpy dirt roads with big rocks in them! It’s well worth it - there are lots of hidden gem beaches and such!

Our unit advertised a queen pullout bed. The pullout bed was a joke! Zero padding. Springs poking in your back. Completely unusable. Seriously?! I ended up sleeping on the floor with the couch cushions. Additionally, the couch was lumpy and uncomfortable to sit on due to broken springs. Definitely need an upgrade on the furniture. That is my only complaint however. The unit was immaculately clean. The views outstanding. The resort well care for.

Walking access to all eateries and stores. Great pave walking trail next to the beach.

Positive, front desk was helpful when we had an issue with our room

Pono Kai is centrally located on the island, so it is the perfect “home” for day trips and exploring. Staff was excellent, friendly, and helpful. Being oceanfront was the perfect way to start each day. The grounds are beautiful and it was so nice to have laundry so close! The exercise room was large and had plenty of options for working out/lifting and the walking/biking path was right there for easy and accessible use. Make sure you rent bikes! We can’t wait to visit again!

We were glad that our suite was decorated with modern furnishings. We loved the view, the great location (near so many restaurants and activities), the activities at Pino Kai, and the quiet solitude of the suite. Choose a suite with ocean view and you won’t be disappointed!! It was absolutely great and I wished we could’ve stayed here for our entire Kauai vacay!

What a beautiful location, this unit is so close to the beach. No issues with parking, close to everything. and just a short (although slow because that's just the nature of Kauai's highways) distance from kayaking, snorkeling, and hiking.

I loved everything about my stay at Poni Kai. The place is very clean. This was my first time chilling to Kauai and I definitely will be back again.

The property is old but very clean and well maintained. Friendly staff. Hotel-style check-in and maid service. Great spot for a family vacation. Kitchen has the basic pots, pans and appliances. AC and water heater worked well. Interior was clean. Views were great. Property is on the beach.

The unit is very basically furnished. Only complaint was that if you have a unit above you, you hear every footstep, music , voices, etc. Units are in serious need of noise abatement measures.

This corner condo was spacious and relaxing. I just loved sipping coffee watching the waves each morning.

Overall a great family vacation. Location is perfect on the island as it’s halfway between ke’e beach and polihale beach, the beaches at either ends of the road. The condo was clean and had plenty of bedding for everyone. The pono kai resort is well maintained and has plenty of activities on the grounds should you want to stay close to home for the day. “Downtown” Kapa’a is is right outside the grounds with plenty of great restaurants and shops. The walking path is fantastic and offers great views while you walk, run, or bike. The only downside, was that there were very few cooking utensils, and the knives were horribly dull. I understand that some of those conditions are difficult to maintain in a vacation rental.

Condo was a good size & comfortable. Not the view in this picture but we saw the ocean from a different angle. Cousins had a great time at pool & hot tub.

Good amenities, roomy condo, lots to do. Mostly friendly staff. The thin walls and people being loud at all hours not so good. We enjoyed the ocean and pool and nearby bike path and shave ice places
Check out time of 10 a.m. a little early.

The accommodations were a perfect size; the beds comfortable; towel service great. However the unit needs cleaning. All glass surfaces were hand printed and the stove & light very greasy with dust in the grease. Bathrooms were ok but corners were dirty. The size and functionality made up for a lot, but I didn’t expect to have to clean when I arrived. 1 mattress was stained and smelled of urine, when we reported it the mattress was changed out immediately, but you could smell it when you entered. Someone tried to cover the 2 foot stain with a garbage bag and mattress cover, but the housekeeper should have reported it right away.

We love Kapa'a and pono kai is the perfect spot for us. The full kitchen and convenience to multiple grocery stores works great for my food issues. Plus most of the restaurants in walking distance can cater to my needs as well. We live the direct access to the walking trail and beach. Close driving distance to both the south and north Shore makes this or preferred spot. The units are clean, spacious and have everything you need.

Great place to stay! It's right next to a bike/walking path and we had great views of the sunrise everyday! Very nice and clean.

Lovely unit and well equipped for doing light cooking.. It's a great location for morning walks along the ocean on the path just behind the unit, and so close to the shops and little restaurants in the town. The complex has lots of fun amenities to keep families active.
Thanks Shawn!

All staff and associated friendly and helpful. Grounds and surrounding areas beautiful. If you have a bad time in Kauai it's your fault. One and only issue was blender was broken, absolutely not a big deal. All other accommodations were perfect.

The place was large, clean, and comfortable, a little dated but nice. We had unit F302, 2 bedroom, 2 bath, full kitchen, top floor corner, with a fantastic ocean view. Air-conditioning but hardly needed with trade winds every evening. Laundry not in unit but on-site coin operated. The grounds are very well maintained with fun activities, tennis, putting golf, croquet, and shuffleboard. Within walking distance to stores and restaurants.

Our 2 bedroom condo was very clean, well located for many activities and comfortable. Our views of the sunrise and moon rise were wonderful as this particular third floor condo looked right out to sea! Accommodations more suited to two couples than to a family share. The roosters were quite colorful! Ah, Kauai! Mahalo Shawn and Aloha!

We had an ocean view two bedroom unit on the second floor. We were delighted that it had air conditioning in the living area and master bedroom. All appliances in great condition and nice big screen tvs for enjoying our late evenings. Maid service was excellent and kept us in clean towels and freshened up our unit on a regular basis. Concierge service was helpful in booking adventures. Bike path was wonderful to walk and bike on daily. Highly recommend this resort to everyone!
