The Phoenix 102 by Mountain Vacation Lodging is a top floor condo with good quality, a warm western decor, and a bed configuration that will work for all sorts of group dynamics. The location is very close to the Gondolas and the development has a great set of on-site amenities. Please read on for more details.

The Location & Ski Slope Access:
The location of this condo is so good, we have to mention this first. When you stay here, you'll enjoy a location that is so close to the ski slopes, parking permits are required. To put that another way, you'll have an easier walk to the slopes than anyone who is driving and parking. That walk is made even easier by the fact that the homeowners have invested in ski lockers right by the Steamboat Gondola. When you're wearing regular shoes instead of ski boots, and not carrying your skis (or your kids skis), what was already an easy walk to the slopes has been made an absolute breeze.

Specifically, from this condo, you'll have a short downhill walk of about 150 meters, to the corner of Apres Ski Way and Village Drive. At that point, you're already right next to numerous shops and restaurants, as well as a small grocery store. From that corner to the Gondolas, Ski School, the ticket office, as well as many more shops, restaurants, and bars, you'll only walk about 200 meters, and that section is a very gentle incline. If you're using the ski lockers, your walk home is also easy. That said, you might choose to “ski in” to the condo instead. Here's how: When skiing home, just take the “Stampede” trail. When you can see the very bottom of the Steamboat Gondola, you stay left and then just before/above the Gravity Haus hotel, hang a left onto the ski access easement that leads to the Ptarmigan House. At this point, you're only about Either way, you're less than 50 meters from the condo. Just walk across the street and put your skis or boards in the garage. This location is so close to the slopes, it's the kind of place where you can come home for lunch, saving you hundreds. If you need to shed a layer of clothing, or add one, no problem.

In ski season, there is also a free private shuttle provided, and it can take you anywhere in town. That said, you probably won't use it to access the ski slopes or base area restaurants and shops - they're all a short walk from your door! Of course, the location is also great in spring, summer, and fall, when you'll be able to hike or bike the national forest trails, right from your door. The base area has many events, activities, attractions, and restaurants. It is where you want to be, and this condo is in the heart of the base area.

The Condo:
The condo itself features an open layout that feels spacious thanks to its 2 story vaulted ceilings. You'll enjoy nice furniture, linens, bedspreads, & appliances. In fall of 2024, the homeowners began a multi-year investment into renovating the kitchen and bathrooms. The kitchen updates are complete, as well as one bathroom, plus one more bathroom will be completed before the 24/25 ski season. The condo has large TVs in the living room as well as each bedroom. You will enjoy free high speed WiFi throughout and a private Washer & Dryer is found on the main level. Bedroom 1 is on the main level. It has a King size bed, private en suite bathroom, and private entrance, as well as a desk, if you need to work remotely. Bedroom 2 is also on the main level. It has a Queen size bed, and the bathroom dedicated to this bedroom is the one that has already been renovated. Upstairs you'll find the other two bedrooms, two more private bathrooms, plus another desk in the landing that overlooks the living room. Bedroom 3 has a Queen size bed, vaulted ceilings, an en suite bathroom. Bedroom 4 offers something for everyone. It features a Twin over Queen bunk bed as well as 2 Twin beds that can be converted into a King bed. The owner has King linens and a memory foam mattress topper that make the conversion very comfy! We'll reach out to you prior to your arrival to confirm if you have a preference of King or 2 Twins. This large bedroom also features vaulted ceilings and an en suite bathroom. So, whether you have 5 couples, 7 singles, or a mix of couples and kids, this condo offers a bedding configuration that will work well.

** One other thing to note about this condo - you'll have air conditioning. Most properties in Steamboat don't have AC, but this one does! With AC units in both of the upstairs bedrooms, you can turn them on and keep the whole condo cool on hot summer days.

Arrival, Accessibility, Layout and Parking:
Once you book, we're here to support you before, during, and after your stay. We will provide you with arrival instructions, local information, and answer any questions you might have.
– Accessing the property: From the Garage and Parking Lot to the front door of the condo, there are two flights of stairs. Once inside the condo, everything is on the main level, except Bedrooms 3 & 4 and Bathrooms 4 & 4.
– Parking: The condo has a private, heated, 1-car garage that is large enough for all but the very largest SUVs or trucks, such as a Suburban or Tahoe. In addition, this garage is in the corner of the parking lot, so unlike many other units at The Phoenix, you can park a second vehicle right in front of the garage without impeding the right of way for other vehicles. In addition, there are shared covered parking spaces available on a first come first served basis. Please note, trailers and campers or RVs are not allowed at this development. If you need additional parking options, please contact us for more information
– 4WD vehicle information: The roads in Steamboat Springs which lead to and from this property are generally easy to navigate and well maintained. However, if your visit coincides with snow and winter weather conditions, 4 Wheel Drive or All Wheel Drive and tires with good tread are recommended.

Shared Amenities - this development has:
– Private Shuttle Service (ski season only)
– Clubhouse with On Site Front Desk
– Heated Pool & Hot Tubs,
– Fitness Center & Sauna
– Pool Table & Lounge Areas
– Gas BBQ Grills

Our large family enjoyed having 4 bedrooms and 4 full bathrooms. It's amazing how they fit so many rooms into the square footage of this unit. The bathrooms are small but served their purpose just fine. The family room's sectional sofa was very comfortable and provided another bed. The dining table with seating for 6 was perfect for family game nights. There is a bench alongside the wall just inside the door that is great for organizing hats, gloves, helmets and boots. While the kitchen appliances are new and in very nice condition, the only downside is that the kitchen itself is not equipped for cooking large meals. It could use more bowls, cooking/serving utensils, newer pots and pans, and a griddle would be super nice. There is not a lot of counter space, but totally fine for storing snacks and breakfast foods. Steamboat Resort and Downtown have wonderful dining options so we didn't bother with cooking in as much as we usually do on vacations. There are two floors of stairs to get to this unit, but that didn't bother our family. We rented two cars and had no trouble getting into the garage space with one and finding a covered spot for the 2nd. We didn't use the clubhouse or hot tubs because it was a bit of a walk in the cold and after a long day on the slopes, we just didn't have the extra energy, lol. The walk to the gondola, slopes, ski storage, dining, Wild Plum Market, and coffee shop at Gravity Haus was easy and very convenient. Great Location!

The condo has great space for a large group and the location is fantastic. However, the condo is very outdated, the beds and furniture are beat up and uncomfortable, one the the bedroom windows was missing a window covering, half the box fans were broken, and the front desk on location will not provide clean bath towels. For what we spent on the rental, these issues were such a bummer!!

Better for colder season
Better for colder season
While this property states there is AC, the AC units are not in 2 of the 4 bedrooms so it gets really hot during July month. Unit had an odd smell to it, almost like pet urine. Not enough pots and pans to cook a meal for a group of 8. I come to steamboat annually for a soccer tournament and i would not stay at this unit again.

Nice place with some startup 'issues'
Nice place with some startup 'issues'
Overall we liked this place! It was clean, roomy, great for our large family group. The kitchen has most things we needed, although there could have been a bit more silverware in a house that sleeps 10. The one thing that we were a bit unhappy about was the check-in. I received an email with instructions and that was fine. The doors work with key cards and out of the 4 that were provided to us, only one actually opened the door. So we were able to get in. What was a bit more of a hassle was that the email had also said there would be a folder with more information about wifi, where to park, house rules etc in the apartement. There was not. Check-in starts at 4 pm so we got there around 4:30 and by the time we had unloaded the cars and realized we didn't have the folder the reception, where we actually had to pick up that info and reset the key cards that were not working, was closed (they close at 5pm - might have longer hours in the winter?). Bottom line is we only had one key and no wifi for the first night. A quick warning for those travelling with kids, in the 4 night that we were here we saw bears on three occasions at different times of the day. One young one was hanging out in a tree right outside our kitchen for quite a while. I am new to Colorado, so seeing them in town was not something I am used to. We thought it was really cool to get to see them from a safe distance.

Keep looking

The unit was tired and a lot of features were original condition from the 70s to the 80s. The showerheads were ridiculously inadequate. Second floor unit, so there were a lot of stairs. The only great thing about the unit was the microwave oven. Bring your own pots and pans

Much Needed For Improvements
Much Needed For Improvements
There were 12 of us, seniors 55+ and mostly women (10 of 12), and we did not feel crowded. We made good use of the washer/dryer. The exterior is spacious and pleasantly landscaped. We had no problem getting a covered parking spot. However, there were several things which should be improved: Check-in: - Magnetic keys did not work. We had to wait for the security guard to deliver them to us. - The dishes in the dishwasher were not clean. - The fridge's light burned out. We had to put in a new bulb. - The unit is on the 3rd floor, 3 stair levels, which is not clearly indicated in the property description. For us seniors, carrying our luggage up 3 stair levels was quite challenging. General: - AC is not central. Only 3 window units for 2 bedrooms upstairs and the dining area. These are quite noisy that we couldn't sleep with them on. - ceiling fans are covered in dirt/dust. - The TV in the living room and some of the bedrooms did not work. - Bedroom closets are cluttered with beddings and furniture. No room for us to store our luggage. - Master bathroom shower head is not correct, e.g. hot and cold water were not mixed properly, we got hot and cold jets instead of warm water. - Shampoo and conditioner provided were not enough to last 6 days. - Although we managed to cook with provided pots and pans, we think additional, 1-2, larger pots would save us lots of cooking time.
