The place is in the perfect location. Lots of room for us all…. Kids and adults as well. Fred is just next door so any questions were answered quickly. A lovely , lovely spot.

There are not many properties that can accomodate our entire family under one roof. With 9 proper bedrooms, 7 baths, and three additional dens/living areas, there is plenty of room for all to be comfortable. The main living area is spacious and comfortable. The house has two decks on each floor for enjoying that sea breeze and a roof deck for stargazing.
It is an easy walk to the beach (polar bear plunge!) and down to the lighthouse. Additionally Scituate town center is a short 5 min drive where we went for groceries, coffee, last minute Christmas shopping, and where couples could escape for a date night while we watched each other's children.
We are so grateful that we could spend the entire week together. All of the children resisted when it was time to pack up. Thank you Fred for sharing your lovely property with us!

The house was perfect - lots of room, great bedrooms (TV in every one), two kitchens, couple dry saunas, beautiful view of the water, really nice outdoor patios and porches. Fred was there to give a tour of the house and he was available for any questions. House was central to all places we visited (Boston, Newport RI, Martha's Vineyard). Great house to rent!

Fred is an absolute gem. He greeted us when we arrived and let us check in early, toured the property with us and made sure we were aware of the ins and outs. This house was used to sleep 23 people and 2 dogs for our wedding weekend at the River Club. Plenty of space with rooms to spare, incredible views and beach access, patios and balconies for unbelievable views and perfect for good times.
Honestly no better house in Scituate to hold a large party and no better property manager than Fred!

We had a wonderful stay at the Lions Den! We celebrated my parents' 50th anniversary together. We loved the proximity to the beach and the extra large gathering space on the main floor. Some of the amenities weren't working, but Fred was very responsive. Thank you for a wonderful stay! We'll be back! We loved Scituate!!

Awful experience
We had a family of 30 book the property. Fred double booked us and moved us into 2 homes next door to each other. The quarterdeck and the rendezvous. One home was fine (rendezvous), the other was awful and extremely old (quarterdeck). We checked in at around 11pm. The A/C on the second floor did not work, it was 80 degrees. The place smelt awful bc it was hot and air wasn't circulating. We wrote Fred and his response was, "no more complaints tonight, see you tomorrow and open windows". He did not resolve it until the next day, which he did move us to another home. When i mentioned that it was old and smelt awful, he said that is what people come to Scituate, MA for is for the old homes. Fitting 30 people in a home that fits 15 was an awful experience the first night, when he double booked us in the first place.

Great space for a big family gathering
We rented this property for a Thanksgiving weekend with family. There was plenty of room for our group of 15 with lots of sleeping and gathering spaces. Having two kitchens was great for Thanksgiving dinner and there was room for us to all eat together. Only a few downsides -- jacuzzis were closed for the season (owner had warned that might be the case depending on weather, but it was still a bit of a disappointment), there was a problem with the heat on the 2nd and 3rd floors on the day we checked in, but it was able to be resolved with instructions via phone on how to restart the furnace from an HVAC expert, and there was a problem with the lock on the bottom floor that was not resolved. Overall, a great gathering space for a big group with beautiful views.

Great property for large groups
We loved our stay at the Lion's Den in Scituate! We had a group of 15 people and everyone had a bed (very comfortable beds I might add!) and most couples had their own bathroom. The views and proximity to water were awesome, check in / check out was no problem at all, the kitchen was fully stocked with cooking supplies we required, and the main gathering area was open with seating for us to all spend time together. Fred (the property manager) was responsive and friendly.
My only complaint is that both hot tubs did not appear to have been cleaned prior to our arrival, and the hot tub on the upper deck was broken. Fred sent someone shortly after we reached out but unfortunately it was unable to be resolved.

We booked this property to accommodate our entire family for the week of Thanksgiving. Since it was off-season we did not get to enjoy all the benefits of the water front property but it was still breathtaking. There was plenty of space for dining, sleeping and entertaining. The house was very well kept and Fred, Jeff and Mike were helpful.
Thank you for your hospitality and we hope to visit again in the future,

The house and Fred were very nice. We were approached by a random lady from a street over at 630pm our first night yelling at us about how this was a working neighborhood, which we were a bit shocked as we had just arrived and never caused any issues at all during our stay. My guess is other guest in the past were not respectful of outdoor spaces. That being said we made sure to stay indoors and were respectful to the neighbors.
The issues we had with the house was that the amenities listed were not working. We told Fred the first night the roof top got tub didnt work. A maintenance guy came to look at it the next day but said it was over his head and never returned. In addition to the hot tub on the roof top not working the hot tub on the floor level was not treated with any chemicals, which is dangerous. Also, the steam shower on the second floor didnt work and the sauna I'm the in law suite didnt work. So unfortunately we paid for all these up scale aminidies and they didnt work. This trip was for our bridal party members and my husband and I we paid a ton of money for 3 night and it was a bit disappointing to say the least...

Beautiful - but difficult!
The Lion's Den is a beautiful home. Fred was kind enough to tour the place with me well before our stay. When we arrived, however, the locks were not changed over for us (we had to call for help to be let in) and the house looked unprepared for guests. Some of the appliances were non-functional. It was difficult to contact the ColbyCo for help with the facilities. I had family, including grandparents, staying there for our wedding weekend and I would say overall they had a wonderful time. However, we were not given back our full deposit and I truly believe that we were respectful guests. To summarize, the house and location are beautiful and worth the stay - but make sure you do a thorough walkthrough and report anything amiss right away!

Perfect for Large Group Gatherings!
We stayed here for a wedding with 13 people, and it was PERFECT. Fred was super accommodating and gave us a tour of the home and all its features upon arrival. Bedroom and Bathrooms are all great. Beds super comfy. Great location from water + also an easy 15 minute walk into downtown. Ample parking for at least 8-9 cars which was perfect for our group. Home had all of the amenities you'd want in a vacation rental!

Great property, beautiful home.
We had a wonderful time. This house is perfect for a family of 15. Lots of space to spend time together, and lots of space for when you need to get away. Great backyard for games ,for kids to run around, nice quiet area bike riding and walks. Great area for morning runs. Conveniently located, easy shopping at the village market and fish markets. Fred was very easy to talk to and was quick to respond to any questions we had. Will definitely stay here again!

A Giant Slice of Heaven on the Irish Riviera
Incredible Vacation. Incredible home! Who knew that Scituate, MA was considered the Irish Riviera???
We didn't; but now we DO; making us love this place EVEN more!!!
Our group of 5 siblings, spouses and kids; totaling 21 stayed at the Lion's Den from July 29 - Aug. 5th and could not have had a better time! The home was spacious enough for all of us. While we could have used a few larger prep and serving items in the kitchen for this large group - we certainly made do. Any minor issues with the home, were handled immediately by the owner (i.e cable TV feeds, & Hot tub thermometer adjustments)
The one piece of information that was not shared with us prior to arrival is that the Seawall in this town has been under construction for 7 yrs. or so, and has finally made it's way to the area of access that would normally be used by guests of the Lion's Den- so the views to the Ocean are restricted and access to the beach is a wee bit of a hike, but very easily done!
Thanks to Fred and Bobbie (owner's who live next door; and Chris who is the on-site caretaker, who lives in guest sweet in the garage on the property), we had all of our needs met and more. From sharing tips and tricks on local sights to even helping boil a lobster who did not quite make the car ride home- we truly had a wonderful time.
Thank you Fred, Bobbie and "Uncle Chris" for your generosity and hospitality... next time we are flying in!!!!

Ahhhh the Serenity!!!
Fantastic home for 6 couples gathering for a much anticipated reunion! Everyone had their own space to include full bathrooms and the common areas accommodated our group beautifully for eating and lounging inside and out. The neighbor/owner Fred was super friendly and on hand often - from the tour of the amenities of the home to handling a few issues we encountered. Heat in the lower level wasn't working properly so he supplied space heaters. When that tripped the circuit breaker in the lower level which we noticed quite late that night I got a call back from his helpful manager Emin to remind me where the fuse box was (which I should have remembered from the tour but since he covered so much info on the whole property that bit didn't stick!). They had a service technician out by the next day (Sat) and all was well! Fred stopped by a few more times thru out our stay to make sure we were happy and enjoying ourselves. We noticed someone in the garage apartment a few times and found out that he's a friend of the family's - I would suggest letting holiday renters know about this up front so it doesn't alarm anyone. Fred is really laid back and I was so grateful for his attitude - we are friends who hadn't seen each other in nearly a decade and may have gotten a bit loud but Fred didn't mind us at all!!
Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate enough for us to be able to use the hot tubs but we did enjoy the back patio and fire pit in between rain showers one afternoon. I couldn't get the steam shower to work but that may have been operator error. One of our party used the sauna in one of the bathrooms and said it was great! Great stocked and supplied kitchen!! Everyone remarked on how comfortable the beds were. Nice linens and good thick large towels! I had hoped for unobstructed views of the water from the house but frankly we were too busy having fun to mind. I'm sure from the widow's walk that is the case but the weather didn't allow that.
Train to the city was easy and stress free. The town of Scituate is charming, shops still open during low season.
Given how comfortable and how much we enjoyed our stay in late Oct I can imagine how wonderful this property would be during the warmer months when all the amenities can be taken advantage of and enjoyed - looks like we will have to schedule another trip!! :)

Endless Bedrooms
The Lion's Den has so much space it's a dream for large groups! The "in law" space downstairs is a great option if some of your group has kids and others don't, because it's an entirely separate living space, complete with kitchen and tv room. The fire pit works beautifully and don't miss the roof deck view.
4.6
Great place, as described, full of amenities
Perfect for a larger party, two hot tubs, two saunas (though one was out when were there), two kitchens. We used it a staging area for our wedding party and it was perfect for that use, had tons of people in and out all weekend. Somewhat close to neighbors which could be an issue if your party gets too rowdy, but we didn't have any issues. Beach right down the street is a mix of sand and rocks, but very nice. Designed to host large groups, and serves that purpose very well.

Great house to accommodate large groups
Our group of 8 families had a wonderful time at the Lion's Den! There were 28 of us in all, including small children, and everyone was comfortable and had plenty of space. The house is clean, well-stocked, and has gorgeous views of the water. The beach is very private and clean, though at high-tide we had to vacate because the water went almost all the way up to the sea wall. The many decks and hot tubs gave us the ability to be outside while staying close to the house. Fred is friendly and helpful and wants to ensure that his guests have a good time. We were sad to leave after only 3 days and would definitely come back in the future!

Photos don't do it justice--amazing place!
This is a gorgeous property in an adorable town. The views are amazing with balconies off almost every room. The sauna is lovely, and the hot tub was so relaxing after a day at the beach. Very neat and clean, and had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend it. Many beaches are a close walk or bike ride, including the one very private one just across the street. Also ventured (by car) to the Boardwalk area in Hull, which was a great day trip (including a carousel!) There is a cute general store nearby for an easy breakfast, or a lunch to have in or take to the beach, or for an evening stroll to the ice cream window. Or make a family dinner in the gorgeous kitchen (we did this several times) and/or grill out back. The private back area is great for family gathering/relaxing. TVs with Netflix is most bedrooms and living spaces. The town is just up the road and there are kayak and paddle board rentals, nice restaurants on the water, and cute shops.

Our Week at the Lion's Den
We were a total of 19 people -ages 10 to 82. The place had enough bedrooms and baths, including the pull-out sofas. Kitchen was large and comfortable with many supplies already there. Decks and hot tubs were well placed and fun. Town of Scituate was charming. Beach - rocky, but that's not something Fred can control.TVs did not work, but we brought our own router. Nice place for a family vacation.

Simply Beautiful
I stayed at the Lion's Den with some of my close friends from college. There was about 22 of us and it was a great time. The house was beautiful and there were so many great activities to do in the area. Sharon was very kind and assisted me with utilizing the house to it's full potential. The inside of the house is very beautiful and classy, and all my guests were super comfortable in there rooms and loved the safari theme. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a relaxing and stunning beach vacation spot.
Thank you Fred & Bonnie for being amazing hosts.

Great house for large families!
We stayed at the Lion's Den this past weekend with 18 family members and never felt crowded or on top of each other, especially since the weather did not allow us to use the outdoor space unfortunately. The open living room and kitchen area was perfect for cooking, hanging out and socializing all in the same area. Sharon was wonderful, welcoming and very friendly from the time we arrived to our departure. The house felt clean and was well maintained. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a large family gathering place or beach vacation spot. We hope to return in the future!

Bday & Labor Day Weekend Get-a-way 2015
From the moment we pulled up, we were excited! The weather was gorgeous, ocean view, big clean property! Sharon was there to show us around and to make sure we knew how to operate all that we'd need to know - from the entry, to the gas grill, fire pit, hot tub - each made us smile!
They even provided island cruisers(bikes) which truly made our trip feel like a vacation. Biking along the waterfront, into town, to beaches - everything seemed so close because of the beautiful scenery and really it is close to everything - we biked to the movies, felt like kids again, & biked to dinner! Also is a super close location to a general store that had vaca essentials including beer & wine.
They provided beach chairs and boogie boards, all so convenient to access. Seconds walk to a rocky yet peaceful & beautiful beach. I sat there for awhile on a few occasions watching dogs play in the water, along with scuba divers, boats and the ocean for miles!
We grilled & enjoyed the hot tub several times, so relaxing & very private patio area that included the fire pit which was nice for conversations among friends - it felt like a dream!
All was clean, beds comfy, nice bathrooms/showers, spacious kitchen and nice living area to unwind with a movie.
The owners, Fred & Bonnie, were extremely friendly, welcoming to all, accommodating & laid back. We certainly did not want to leave!
I highly recommend the Lion's Den, I only hope it's available when we want to go back!
Cheers to your time spent should you be lucky to go!

This place is awesome
We booked the Lion's Den for a family and friends gathering. The location is great. Super convenient to Boston with both nearby ferry and train access.
The property is amazing. The views are unbelievable!
Inside the house is luxurious with still that beach feel. It has state of the art everything. And all the amenities you would want are on site.
The owners are also very accommodating. We needed an extra drip coffee maker for my mom. We mentioned it in passing and they had one to us within the hour.
Overall, probably one of the best rental house in Scituate for family gatherings.
