Such a great property. Amazing view from the upstairs bedroom. We loved having breakfast on the terrace every morning and relaxing by the pool in the afternoon. Effie and Francisco were great. I speak minimal Spanish but we got by. You will definitely get your steps in if you stay here. We’ve stayed in the hills before so we are used to it. Getting a cab is no problem though. We would definitely stay here again.

we were a group of seven older adults enjoying Casa Libra. This property has a wonderful authentic Mexican feel. We loved the pool area and being able to open up all the bedrooms and kitchen / living area to the open air. House was generally clean but we did feel that the kitchen could benefit from some deep cleaning. Master bedroom is amazing and the secondary bedrooms were very comfortable. The fourth bedroom is quite small but it okay for a single person. The location is generally quiet but there were a few annoying cats fighting through the night. We did not experience any construction noises that were noted by earlier reviews. Travellers with mobility challenges should be aware that getting to the shops/restaurants may require taxi's to be used as the house is "up the hill". If mobility not a challenge, the steps are fine.

Lovely hacienda with a great view of the old town. All the amenities including a nice pool. We got our exercise going up and down the stairs to eat and explore in the local neighbourhood and beyond. Lots to do there.
It was a very nice vacation!

Lots of stairs, not great for anyone with mobility issues. Location was also very steep and hard to walk around, Uber was our friend!!

Magical place to stay that is an easy walk down to Zona Romantica. There is a challenging walk back up the stairs, but it’s close by.
Effie was lovely and did not speak a ton of English, but communicated well with my very basic Spanish. She offered to wash our clothes toward the fourth day of our trip and did a great job cleaning.
There is an envelope for tips for her and the gardener/pool person.
There is some construction at the condo nearby, but only during the day. I never noticed it in my room. The fourth bedroom under the stairs does not have air conditioning, but does have a very powerful fan. I was tired enough after each adventure day to not notice, but if you have trouble sleeping without ac, keep that in mind.
The pool was clean and well cared for, with plenty of towels for everyone. There were cooking supplies, but we didn’t use them. A large jug of processed water is always full, so we didn’t have to worry about buying water bottles.
Overall a great place to stay and I plan to come back!

This stay was one of our favorites. Effie was so welcoming and very accommodating to us. The place was great! It was perfect for what we needed. It was private and easily accessible to everything. The house's private pool and open windows made it such a different feeling! There is still construction going on next door, no beach naps were taken due to the incessant jack hammers from 9-4 pm. We would stay again!

This was a beautiful property! From the welcoming that came with Margaritas and homemade guacamole and pico de gallo! The spacious open area Wes well kept and clean. The pool was also heated which was a nice surprise for early morning swims. We used the kitchen to cook one meal and everything was readily available in the home to make a steak and potato dinner. The master bedroom was my favorite part of the house but the overall rustic look, the artwork, and endless plants and greenery makes this vacation part of my top 5. Would def stay again and would def recommend. On another note was in constant contact with the owners who made check in and check out seam less. Effie the house keeper was on call for us and the pool maintenance was done once during our stay to ensure chemical levels were up to par. Love this rental!

Home gives you the sense that you are in a beautiful Hacienda. Lots of tile work, unique art objects, beautiful architectural features. Effie, the housekeeper, welcomes you with margaritas and guacamole. She is a delight! Do have her prepare a meal or more for you. We had the most amazing breakfast and another day we enjoyed a lunch that was absolutely delicious. Homemade tortillas, homemade salsas, birria, quesadillas, all the trimmings, it was really a wonderful experience. The only downside of this beautiful place is that it is on a very steep, narrow cobblestone street. So do plan to use Uber which is very accessible and very reasonable wherever you’re going unless you are a trained athlete, or perhaps a mountain goat. There was some noise from the condominium construction but only a minor distraction in the morning and daytime. This is a lovely property, a very welcoming and wonderful housekeeper, and responsive owners. My family and I enjoyed our stay very much.

Casa Libre was a great place to have a family vacation. Everyone had their own bedroom and bathroom. Plus lots of group spaces. It was really nice to have our own pool with a lounge chair for everyone. Kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed.
Effie does a great job of keeping the house clean and everything in order, and even did our laundry. She had 6 frozen lime margaritas waiting for us when we arrived complete with salted rims. Plus guacamole, salsa and chips. Perfect snacks for arrival. Effie also found a couple important items we left behind when checking out. Luckily our shuttle was a little late and she got it back to us before we left. Five stars for Effie.
Francisco worked hard keeping the yard and pool in order. Always happy and cheerful as he worked. Beautiful yard made you feel like you were the only ones around.
Note for future renters. The BBQ uses briquettes which can be purchased at the nearest Oxxo. We had many delicious family BBQ suppers.
We would definitely check this property out again for a large group.

Really had that old world feel. Loved Effie, the housekeeper. She’s a great cook. Went above and beyond assisting us throughout our stay. The condominium previously mentioned in reviews is near completion. Some noise but not awful. Updated photos are needed to reflect the new view. Much, not all, of the bay is blocked by the condo.

We had a great time staying here. The property looked even better in person. Lots of space to lounge and the pool was a huge plus. There are a set of stairs (a lot of them) just outside the entrance that leads you right into town. We were a little worried about proximity to restaurants, beach, etc before arriving, but found everything to be a quick walk. You will get a workout with the stairs, but calling an Uber for further locations was really simple. Would definitely stay again.

Casa Libra is such a special property in PV! A real hidden gem not far from all the sights of the romantic zone, but very private and secluded in Alta Vista. Beautiful Mexican style artwork all over the property, almost like a small art museum. The pool is a perfect mix of sun and shade all day. Effie was a great help stocking the house with groceries. She also left us fresh made guacamole, pico, and two pitchers of margaritas to enjoy on our stay!

This is a beautiful traditional old Hacienda. Initially the neighborhood was questionable but after staying therefore awhile and Walking around we became accustomed to it and felt perfectly safe.
The main issue with this property is the extreme deferred maintenance. I took a lot of photographs of upholst try that was stained, dirty, tattered and torn essentially worn out. slip covers should have been replaced, Decorative pillow Covers should have been replaced., Sinks were chipped and worn, Some faucets were completely rusted And one of the faucets had a broken off handle Which made the hot water inaccessible in that particular bathroom. Neither of The bathtubs Had stoppers so bathing was not available. We did buy a stopper for the tub with the jets and left it on the premises. . The other tub was in such poor condition We would not even put our feet in it let alone our entire body. The equepalli furniture was worn and torn And needs to be replaced. Overall the Cleanliness of the kitchen was not up to our standards. The scrolled wrought iron table bases and bed frames Had lots of old dust built up on them and the stack of magazines on the fireplace was so filthy I could write my name On the top of the one on top of the stack. I could go on and on about this as we were all quite taken aback. We felt that for the money they are charging this place should be up to par and it is truly Neglected. At one point we all talked about moving to a different accommodation and asking for our money back.
We were happy with the location and proximity to everything we wanted to do and we were very happy with Effie. She was hospitable and help us navigate taxi's
My advice for the owners is do a sweep of the premises replace all of the old worn tattered torn and broken items in the home And retain a cleaning service to come in once every quarter to do a deep cleaning of walls ceilings beams windows, fans light fixtures (as there were dead bugs in several of the light fixtures.), the insides of all the drawers and closets.
I realize handling the deferred maintenance all at once can be a Costly endeavor but it will make a world of difference for your guests. Right now the house seems untended and uncared for.
ThT was a Big disappointment.
I would like to add that we have visited port of the art several times and have stayed in various accommodations That we have been thrilled with so that is why this was A true let down.

Wonderful property
If you are looking for a larger property off of the town, this is the place for you! Effie the housekeeper is amazing! She was there on time for check in and check out. As many others have said, there is construction going on across the street. They start around 7:30-12:00ish and then start back from their siesta around 2:00-5:30ish. Honestly it became white noise for our family. Overall, a wonderful property.

Simply incredible
I can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed this property. The pictures certainly measure up. The communication with the owners was so reassuring and the staff onsite were kind, accommodating, and really made our stay. We can’t wait to go back.

Better than the pictures
Everyone in our group said it...this is the first rental they had stayed at where the place was nicer in person than in the picture. Tons of character and charm.
Only downside is you get a workout walking up and down the hill...but good for burning off all those tacos you're bound to eat.
Also, Effie the housekeeper was great and cooked us an amazing breakfast one morning.

Great location and accomodations
Occupied home with a total of 9 people.
I think the highlight to the home was the service received by housekeeper Effie
She welcomed us with amazing guacamole and margaritas. A few days later we plannned a bday breakfast with mariachi. She was instrumental in helping us locate an amazing mariachi. she also cooked posole for us and serviced the setup of the meal.
The house unfortunately is located to really loud construction. I would recommend brining ear plugs.... The noise was not enough of a deterrent for me to not book again.
Please take advantage of the outdoor shower.... Absolutely amazing
House is drenched with beautiful plants everywhere and nice pieces of art.
Pool was a little high in chlorine.... But didn't stop us from enjoying.
Sitting area is a little uncomfortable only please to really lay out and relax is pool beds or your actual bed.
The house gets an amazing breeze. Beds were comfortable. We also really enjoyed the separate that two of the rooms had away from the other two rooms.
I would stay here again!

Gorgeous villa, easy location
Immaculate villa vibes makes the stay at casa libre feel richly lived in! Truly a delight, cannot recommend this property more highly.
The hike up the hill can be a lot and there was some very loud unexpected construction first thing in the morning — neither of which can be helped. Taxis are cheap and construction ends eventually!
Relax here and take an easy stroll down hill for beach and nightlife. Everything you could need in zona romántica at your doorstep.

March 2022 stay
The house is amazing and beautiful. We loved the open air feel with views of the city / bay and all of the beautiful plants. Effie the housekeeper went above and beyond to make sure we we had a nice stay, and cooked an amazing dinner and breakfast for our group. The only 2 downsides of our trip were the construction noise and some of the showers did not drain well. Although we read about the construction noise in previous reviews, we feel this should be called out in the general description / notes of the house until the construction is completed.

Great stay!
Great property, nice pool, close to the romantic zone. Only issue was with there not being great lighting in all the bedrooms and a shower head was broken when we arrived.

Great house
We all had a great time. The house is nice and clean, the pool was perfect, plenty of hot water in the showers. As others have mentioned, there’s constant construction noise starting around 8am and goes until 6pm. Not the owners fault, but it did put a damper on the trip. Apparently PV is rapidly growing and it’s hard to escape the construction noises all over town. If you intend to sleep in, I wouldn’t stay here. The review that states the noise isn’t that bad must’ve been there during a different part of the construction, because when we were there, it was so bad we couldn’t hear each other talk at times. Otherwise, we had a lot of fun in PV and we would stay here again, but only after the condo complex next door is complete.

Great place if not for the construction noise
Overall rating would be higher if not for the construction noise. This casa is beautiful with a super friendly property manager. It is an older building with a lot of character, large rooms, good size kitchen, etc. Unfortunately, construction noise started every morning at 8AM and lasted until 6PM which eliminated the opportunity to relax in the yard and by the pool. Once the construction is finished guests can really enjoy this location.

Wonderful Stay!
We loved our experience at the property! It was beautifully adorned with traditional Mexican artwork and the owners really tried to maintain that level of decor. The pool is relaxing and big enough for the whole house. It is located near everything of interest - restaurants, bars, and beaches.
We also loved all of Effie’s help (the housekeeper). Highly recommend her to cook at least one or two meals for you while you’re there - we did one dinner and breakfast. All of it was delicious.

Charming traditional casa in Alta Vista
As noted in the listing, there is construction noise from the tower across the street, but it was not too bad. The evenings are quiet and the pool and garden are delightful.

Great time in Puerto Vallarta
This was our first time to PVR. The house is in a great location to easily access the Zona Romantica which is where all the great restaurants/ shops are located. We loved the Mexican decor at the home and all the neat seating areas. Construction is still ongoing at a large condo building right next to the property which did impact on privacy and relaxation at the home during the day. Catcalls from construction workers while sitting at the pool are not particularly relaxing.. However this is not the owners fault and this situation will resolve when the construction is completed. The hosts were very responsive and their on site cleaner/ manager Effie was wonderful. We had some issues with hot water at the home but they were easily dealt with and did not detract from the beautiful decor and our overall enjoyment of the home. I only lowered the rating to 4 starts due to the construction. I would definitely consider renting this house again as the location is really ideal.

Great place
Construction noise didn’t bother me. Effie was great. House was luxurious and inviting. Pool was superb. We are all over 65. Had our friends come and they were very impressed also. Just a wonderful experience. Thanks so much.

Amazing retreat so close to downtown.
Our group of 7 friends stayed a week at this amazing property to celebrate my birthday. We all had terrific rooms and enjoyed the common space and most of all the pool! Effie, the housekeeper came every day to clean and check on our needs and she was such a gem! We hired her to cook for us one night and it was simply delicious! The grounds were private, clean and beautiful and the pool was such a welcomed present at the end of a sweaty day sight seeing. The ONLY drawback at this place was the daily construction at a new high rise. This was NOT the location's fault and we were warned before we arrived. However, this did NOT dampen our wonderful experience! Highly recommended especially if you are a large group.

Great place in Zona Romantica
The house was very clean and well-decorated. The owners were very friendly and easy to work with, and the housekeeper was there waiting for us when we arrived and she was very helpful. This is a great place for a group to stay, not too far uphill from the main area of Zona Romantica.
The only issues we had were that there was no hot water the whole time we were there (although that may have been fixed after we left), and there is a large condo building under construction a few hundred yards away that is unbearably noisy from 9am until 6pm or later. I would recommend waiting for construction to be done before staying here, the noise was truly terrible

After determining I wanted to visit Puerto Vallarta and beginning the search for lodging, this place stood out to me as PERFECT! It definitely was an amazing stay and gets a 4 out of 5 stars from me but I wouldn't say it was perfect. Let me be clear...this house is phenomenal. It is the quintessential Mexican hacienda. The space is huge and the pool was so nice. It was relaxing to sit poolside sipping margaritas and having a housekeeper cook for you if you requested and paid for it (which we did and it did not disappoint). Unfortunately, there is major construction across the street which starts at 8am and lasts until 6pm every day except Sunday. It also partially blocks the view from the upstairs bedroom and workers can basically see into the windows and into the pool area, so it doesn't feel as private as described. The air conditioning unit in the upstairs room didn't work nor did the TVs. It also could use a little more cleaning/dusting to bring it up to the perfect standard I'm desiring. It was clean but I think the leftover personal items of the owner that have collected dust could possibly be removed to give it a cleaner look. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would do it again, just a few pieces of feedback.

What a hidden gem!
The pictures of the property do not do it justice. The grounds are impeccably kept, the common areas are well stocked with essentials like sun screen, towels, band bug spray - and don't get me started on Effie the housekeeper. Effie is splendid and make sure the house is tidy every day, she even greeted out group with margaritas, quac, and pico. The only downside to the property is that it's up a giant hill, so be ready to do a little walking. Otherwise I couldn't recommend this property enough.

Nice House, Noisy Neighborhood
This is the second time we’ve stayed a week at Casa Libra. The house is beautiful, particularly the gardens and pool area. Effie was wonderful as always. But the big difference this time vs last year is the construction of an 11 story condo building just a couple of meters from the house. We used to love throwing the shutters open in the master bedroom in the morning to see beautiful Banderas bay, but this year we were awoken by construction noise and the view is partially blocked by the construction site. The noise goes through the day, so it’s very difficult to relax outside by the pool. Wished we would have known this before booking. We were told by the condo sales agent that the building is supposed to be complete December 2021.
Also, we were eaten alive by mosquitoes this year! The house has an open living concept without windows, which while beautiful does little to keep bugs out. We closed the shutters completely at night and sprayed ourselves with bug spray before getting into bed, only to awake with bites all over. We get that the house is on the edge of the jungle and mosquitoes can’t be helped, but maybe mosquito nets around the beds?
We hope to enjoy Casa Libra again once the construction is finished across the street.

Beautiful casa
Me and my family enjoyed our stay at Casa Libre. All of comments about the house being nicer in real life than in the photos is true. A couple of things I should mention- although there is a washer and dryer, only Effie can use it as it’s locked. She is there based on your desired schedule. Effie and her daughter cooked dinner for us one night and it was wonderful. The cost was $140US plus groceries.
The place is impossible for taxis to find so be prepared by having the address in writing and tell them it’s by Casa Isabel.
The rooms a beautiful. One one has has an ocean view and it is one of the best views of the city I’ve ever seen and I’ve stayed at many places in PC. The garden is beautiful. The pool is nice. I thought all of the rooms were beautiful and comfortable. The place has a lot of character.
A couple of improvements that I’d recommend- the master bathroom tub is kind of gross. It’s missing titles and drains slow so we would be standing in water up to our ankles when we showered. Also, a bit of a clean out of the closets in the master suite is recommended. There is space but it’s filled with the owner’s belongings leaving very little storage. It looked like most of the stuff in there is dusty and hadn’t been used in a long time so a little spring cleaning it needs and would go a long way to making it more accommodating for guests. As it is, there were about five hangers and three small drawers for guests to place their belongings. We encountered the same issues with shelf space in the master bath. The kitchen counter is the same way with lots of stuff cluttering the counter top including two coffee pots.
I can imagine staying there again.
