About this house rental
We hope we have the opportunity to host you at our awesome Tahoe Bear Cabin. It's located in a truly private spectacular setting with our backyard bordering The Tahoe National Forest. Our pictures of the cabin and surrounding property and forest acreage don't do it justice.
The 'Tahoe Bear Cabin' offers tumbled marble in the bathrooms, slab granite, and maple cabinets throughout, state-of-the-art stainless appliances, four televisions, four of which are high definition (60-inch and 42-inch), satellite TV, home theater surround-sound, a grand copper wood burning fireplace, beautiful gas fireplaces in upper and lower bedrooms, central heat, and hardwood floors. Several decks make for wonderful outside entertaining, as does the Jacuzzi hot tub, which offers total privacy. Bose speakers complement the Jacuzzi and decks.
Approximately 2600 square feet, this unique and elegant three-bedroom, three-bath, incredible Tri Level Cabin promises to make your stay in Tahoe unforgettable. Come for the Weekend and make memories that will last a Lifetime. Make no mistake, this cabin will truly bring the Lake Tahoe experience to life.
Surrounded by acres of conservancy land with The Tahoe National Forest and only two long blocks from the lake lies our Tahoe Bear Cabin, offering both privacy and convenience. For the security of our guests and the safety of our home, there are external security cameras located on our deck, the exterior doors into the house, and the parking lot area. One of the greatest features is the opportunity to watch neighborhood bears, but they can be little rascals if there are no guests at the property. We monitor the outside to ensure everything is safe for our authorized guests. There are no surveillance cameras inside the house.
Located just minutes from Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows ski resorts, and only 10 minutes from the Coast Guard boat launch at Lake Forest Road, our Tahoe Bear Cabin will allow you to experience Tahoe to its fullest - access to the Tahoe Rim trail, snowmobiling, cross country skiing at Paige Meadow, sledding on our private road or at Granlibakken Resort, quad & ATV, and hiking are conveniently located right out our back door.
Bedroom One: King-size bed
Bedroom Two: King-size bed, Queen Sofabed
Bedroom Three: Queen-size bed, Sofabed, and Twin
Living Room: Sofas sleep up to 6

Easy, spacious and pleasant home.

This home was quintessential Tahoe, in a good location. The kitchen and bathrooms were clean. Plenty of towels. Our group was overwhelmed by the amount of clutter (decorations) throughout the home. Removing at least half of it would make the space more livable, more welcoming and be much easier to clean.

We had a great stay in the Bear Cabin. Plenty of room for the 5 of us with comfortable beds. Everything just as posted. Quiet neighborhood away from the crowds, yet very close to all Tahoe City has to offer. Would love to return - Thank you Cheryl!

Super cute house with lots of charm!

Our group had a great time at the Bear Cabin - we were close to driving to Palisades while also being close enough to restaurants to walk without a car. The fireplace was a wonderful addition to helping us warm up and hang out in the large living room...as well as the hot tub, which was a delight to sit in while the snow fell. Cheryl was very communicative although we had no problems!

We had a fantastic stay at Cheryl’s Cabin & Spa in Tahoe City. It was a wonderful place and a few minute drive to everything from mountains, store, shopping etc. We enjoyed our stay at the cabin with hot tub, big living room and fireplace. We will be sure to be back next time we visit Tahoe. Thank you Cheryl!

Would gladly stay again; charming, spacious, well-stocked and private. Adjacent woods have enough clearing for nice walks. Deck is huge. The larger beds are all fantastic. As of early 2024, the two smaller beds were shorter than twin size (but still manageable for shorter occupants), and the sofa pullout in lowest-level room near fireplace needed "mattress" replaced (20-year-old slept in living room instead).

We had a wonderful time celebrating Christmas here. The house was much larger than we anticipated, lots of space to hang out together, and also plenty of space for quiet alone time as well. Great location, super clean, a well loved and cared for home...we would definitely go back! Highly recommend!

Our stay was fantastic! You can tell you are renting someone’s personal vacation home instead of the usually business operated rental, but the cabin was very comfortable! My only complaint was the internet was so slow it’s mostly not usable. I think that would be an easy fix for the property owner. Sadly, some travelers still have to remain connected for family and work reasons. But we loved it and would go back again!

We had a wonderful stay, great communication with the host, location was perfect and accommodated our group size and pups! The unique rooms and large deck gave us different spaces to hang out and enjoy the beauty of Tahoe.

A beautiful stay with family in Lake Tahoe.

This is our second time at Cheryl’s wonderful cabin and it certainly won’t be our last! The cabin is just a perfect retreat for us, I always feel the stress melt off once we open the door! VERY well apportioned kitchen, comfortable beds, amazing family room, and outside is like your own private forest. Cheryl was incredibly communicative and very accessible if we ever needed anything. I seriously cannot think of anything negative to say about the property or communication. We want to make this our family tradition at least once a year. THANK
YOU, Cheryl for every!

This property is very fun - super large, with lots of accommodations and privacy if you want it, but also large gathering spaces. The kitchen was decked out with awesome appliances, spices, cookware and all that you would need. The bathrooms are very modern and nice as well. The property is situated in a way that allows for privacy in the neighborhood, and the snowbanks helped that as well!
There was a tremendous amount of snow but Cheryl made a point to call us ahead of our check-in and help with directions if needed, as the street signs were all buried under the snow!
We had a bit of confusion with regard to wi-fi directions, but again Cheryl was very responsive and we got this resolved. Hopefully the check-in instructions regarding this part can be made a little more clear for future guests.
We would definitely book this property again - so close to Alpine and Palisades, which was the main reason for our trip!

A couple of issues with access to the property. After we reserved and paid, we found this was no longer listed with VRBO. One of our party dropped out due to this because she sensed something was wrong. When we arrived we followed the instructions on how to get inside, but they were all incorrect. We called the property manager who was listed in the VRBO communications who said she has not been managing this property for a long time. She said she has requested the owner correct the error, but hasn’t gotten anywhere. She did give us the owners name and number. Luckily, we reached her and was able to access the house, but this took about 45 min to figure all this out which was pretty stressful. There were several issues with the house, the most annoying being poor to no internet which made me feel there was something buggy going on.

Beware of staying here. On the whole, the house is nice, but our group has had a terrible time dealing with the host before and after our stay and the house is not worth the aggravation that comes with renting this property.
In terms of the house: The house isn’t located in town as the listing suggests - it’s a 10 minute drive/40 minute walk away. We tried to cancel our booking when it came to our attention that the location was misrepresented but we were told 'we should have googled that the property is where it said it was on the listing.' The third “bedroom” is actually a basement, so it offers no privacy. There are cameras watching you. The house is full of items that people have left there over the years - half eaten condiments, used toiletries - creating a lot of clutter and requiring a good clean.
Regarding the host: The host is unhelpful and unresponsive. Prior to our rental it would take days or sometimes more than a week for her to respond to us. She's listed the house as sleeping 10 - though it will comfortably sleep 12! - but if you add any more than 4 guests, the cost goes up astronomically. There are cameras outside (and maybe inside?) the house that she doesn’t disclose, which is a huge violation of privacy.
We are a group of 30-year-old+ accountants and other business professionals with an affinity for travelling - between us we've stayed in dozens of vacation rental home stays and none of us have experienced a host like Cheryl. Following our stay she was swift in notifying us that she had "proof" - likely the aforementioned cameras for monitoring guests - that we had additional guests at the property (we admit we had some friends over, but they did not stay the night). She has tried to charge us for additional overnight guests (that did not exist) and has said we damaged the property despite the house being left in the same condition as when we arrived. Cheryl's property is beautiful, but her actions have been vindictive in nature and we encourage anyone to find accommodations elsewhere in Tahoe.

This cabin is everything in the listing, AND MORE! When first driving up to the property, one can't miss the beautiful neighborhood and forest. Then walking around the cabin, on the outside, its unique decks and entrances are simply stunning. Then enter... absolutely beautiful. The family room is very large and was where we found ourselves every night watching a movie or talking about our day. The bedrooms, the kitchen, the dining room, everything about this cabin is what you dream of when visiting Tahoe!! We spent hours walking around the cabin and looking at all the items, art, lights, everything that the family has collected over the years and shared with everyone. And if the cabin wasn't awesome enough, Cheryl (the owner) was the most wonderful person to work with. We shared stories and photos from our stay, as she shared history and stories as well. Whenever we had a question, she was quick to reply or call with help. She truly made the trip so much more enjoyable and comfortable. Simply put, when our family visits Tahoe again, this is where we will stay!! Thank you Cheryl for EVERYTHING and sharing your stories and beautiful cabin with us!!!

Such a wonderful time at the Bear Cabin. My new baby had so much fun with his cousins in town. Cheryl was super communicative and helpful.

The Bear House lived up to its advertising. Great spot, wonderful hot tub, beautiful copper fireplace.

Perfect location with access to forest and snowshoeing right out the back door. It was a perfect home base for our Tahoe getaway. Large yet cozy cabin with plenty of space and well equipped. Lots of unique features with a gorgeous fireplace, and a large private hot tub. This truly is a bear cabin, we counted over 100 bears in the cabin during our stay. Cheryl was very attentive and helpful through out the rental process and during our stay. We would chose the Bear Cabin again for a Tahoe family gathering.

The cabin is very homey and perfect for families. Cheryl is very welcoming and easy to reach with any questions or problems.

We spent Dec17 - Dec21, 2021 in Bear Cabin and enjoyed it so much. The Christmas decorations throughout the house were so beautiful and you couldn't help but be in the Christmas spirit in this cabin! The primary bedroom has a gorgeous big window that looks out on the National Forest and it had snowed before we arrived so it was nice waking up to that every morning. The beds were amazingly comfortable. The hot tub was enjoyed one night by my husband and son-in-law in the freezing cold weather. The couches in the living room were very comfortable and plenty of room for all 6 of us to have a white elephant gift exchange and play games on the very big screen TV. I was able to reach Cheryl when needed and she was very nice and helpful when we struggled to get our front wheel drive mini van up the hill to the cabin. My mistake for not renting a 4 wheel drive van in the Tahoe winter! Overall this cabin is very special and I am thankful that we were able make great family memories at Christmas time. I would love to come back in the spring time and hike behind the cabin.

The location for this is a nice area. What turned us off first, the price for our week rental actually doubled with all the extra add on charges. Our 5 day vacation turned scary with very close fires and thick smoke in and outside of house and caused us to leave after 2 nights . When we first arrived we were stuck outside in smoke for an hour with an incorrect door access code.and couldn’t reach the landlord due to non cell service. We did request at least a partial refund for the unusable days but did not get a response unfortunately. I can see if we cancelled due to our decision but it was a forest fire and we were forced to leave . The landlord also has a rental disclaimer that protects her from refunding in any emergency ,so be aware. We won’t be renting this property again , probably not Tahoe again !

Overall it is a beautiful property, but we had a lot of difficulty getting in touch with the property manager. I had to message/call many times prior to our stay to get the information we needed. We also had to leave the stay early due to the Caldor Fire and our requests for any sort of refund/voucher were completely ignored. Overall a nice property, but the lack of communication made the days leading up to our vacation a bit more stressful than they needed to be.

Everything was very good, the cabin is beautiful, my children liked it very much the only thing that my husband did not like that the code they gave us online did not work, until she called us to give us a new code.

The house was beautiful and in a quiet area, making it the perfect place for us! The house is well stocked and the owners are very helpful! Would absolutely stay again.

Beautiful property and setting. Secluded back property perfect for walks. Beautiful large patio for outdoor dinners and star watching. Fantastic owner, very friendly and helpful.

We chose this cabin for the location and kid-friendliness and it met our expectations and more. It was clean and Cheryl was very easy to talk with. Even though we did not use the hot tub she still had it cleaned and warm for us.
4.8
A true gem at Tahoe! Highly recommend the cabin and can’t wait to visit again!!!

We had a great time at the Bear Cabin, which is located in a fantastic part of the West Shore walking distance to Tahoe House. Lots of toys for kids and separate areas for play to give parents and kids their own space. Rooms don’t have a ton of privacy (no blinds towards the forest behind), great deck and outdoor space though in need of a bit of a cleaning to be fully useable.

Cute bear themed cabin. Comfortable beds and couches. Well appointed. We enjoyed our stayed. Highly recommend.

We really enjoyed this vacation

Our Memorial Day experience at Bear Cabin was amazing! Cheryl was so nice sharing her wonderful cabin with my family and friends! The accommodations were impeccable with everything clean and in working order. After entering the cabin we truly felt at home with all of the heartfelt details that went into the cabin. It was hard to leave on Monday and she even allowed us an extra hour to take it all in before leaving. After leaving we could not stop talking about how enjoyable the cabin was and our excitement to hopefully return one day soon. Thank you, again, Cheryl.
