Located only steps away from the harbor, this quaint home offers a rural feel while being within minutes of restaurants, cafes, pubs, shops, the North House Folk School, the Art Colony, and so much more.
The space
This cozy house has great curb appeal with its colorful and cheery Scandinavian design. Its warm interior finish has preserved some of the original 1938 construction such as maple hardwood flooring throughout.
The home offers a nice balance of natural light through plentiful windows while still offering privacy from the lovely wooded property. The raised bed garden, wildflowers, clover ground cover, yellow roses, and mountain ash trees fill the yard giving it a wonderfully wild and natural feel.
The home has a cafe/booth-style eating nook with wrap-around windows…perfect for quaint dinners or for reading and writing.
The galley-style kitchen has a bar stool seating area; ideal for hanging out during meal preparation or simply for sipping your morning coffee.
Sit back in the open-concept living room or in the summer, relax on the lovely front porch in a comfy hanging chair.
The cabin is designed for 2 but can handle up to 4 guests who are looking for a more affordable stay. There is a double pull-out sofa with a mattress topper in the living room - offering limited privacy and comfort for the additional guests.

Clean, cozy, unique & close to the downtown area (shopping, restaurants, activities etc.).
If you’re staying while there’s an event or festival in town (like we did), be aware there is NO OFF STREET PARKING (or reserved on street parking for the property) so you may have to park a few blocks away like we did.

The cottage just was great, from its origin story - it was built from a Montgomery Ward catalog kit! - to its current whimsical decor.
Even though you are right downtown, the trees make it seem you're out in the woods.

Cozy, comfy, quaint. Nicely decorated and appointed, but not fancy, just the way we like it! Everything we needed and felt like home!

Underwhelmed. Cabin was 30 degrees upon arrival. It took a few hours to heat to 65 degrees. A cold night.
The pictures online look cute but the place in person was not cozy. We have stayed at other mokki places and loved them but I’d use this one as a last resort.

Great location. The cabin in small but meets the needs a person would want for a nice getaway. Walking distance to downtown and right behind a brewery with great food and beer.

We truly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. We parked the car and walked all over Grand Marais! We love coming to the North Shore and the cottage was perfect for all our needs, will definitely stay again!

My roommates and I enjoyed our stay immensely! This cottage was very well kept and is in a convenient location. I would definitely recommend this location to my friends and family looking for a secluded getaway near a cozy town.

We have stayed in the Mokki cottage 3 years in a row for winter getaways. We love the cute and clever space, the convenient and cozy gas fireplace and the fabulous location within the town of Grand Marais, MN

Best place to stay in Grand Marais
Clean, cute and comforting! Everything you need to have a happy spot while on vacation. Close to downtown. A grill you can use outside.

Wonderful location and property. Terrible mattress.
We loved everything about this place. It was clean, centrally located, cozy (love the gas fireplace), perfect amount of amenities and convenient layout.
Can’t get past the awful mattress. We arrived on a Friday night…tossed and turned on what seemed like a spongy sheet of plywood…then hiked a solid day on Saturday…and tossed and turned Saturday night too. We woke up feeling like we’d not slept a wink…sore and tired.
The place is great and we’d come back - but only if there is a decent mattress that enables a good night’s sleep.

Cozy little Nest in the Heart of Grand Marais
This quaint little cabin served us during our short getaway. It is portrayed accurately on the listing, and communication with the property manager was great. It was small, simple, and cozy during a blustery weather system that came through the area. Gale force winds out on the majestic lake Superior, rains along the shoreline, and snow up on the Gunflint were kept at bay here in this little retreat. The small cabin provides all you need. Although it has wifii, it does not have a television - and we survived! :) Thank you for sharing this cute retreat with us!

We're Coming Back!!
This was our second year of staying at Mokki Cabin for a few days' Nordic Skiing and enjoying the winter vibe in Grand Marais. We just love the little cabin! I LOVE having a cheery fireplace (this one is gas so easy to use). We had everything needed for a great stay!

Privacy in the town center
We had a wonderful stay in the cottage. Our kids mentioned several times how much they love the smell and how it made them feel cozy. The location made for perfect apres ski with pubs and restaurants within walking distance.

Great little spot.
Great little spot. Brought our own little tv. There was a little mix up with over booking. Vrbo had us staying til Friday but on Thursday there was a knock on the door. The Owners had us checking out on Thursday. They let us stay and rearranged cabins for the people coming on Thursday. Not sure what happened but overall it was perfect for us.

Offbeat Modern Twist on a Lake Cabin
This is a made-over lake cabin in the heart of downtown. Perfect size for two, with an airy alcove that catches the lake breezes. A wonderful brew/pub is located right behind the back yard!

Nice little cabin
We enjoyed our stay at the cabin and Grand Marais. The cabin was ordered from Montgomery Wards and built in 1938. A reminder the cabin does not have a TV. There were DVD's but nothing to play them on. Nice selection of books and puzzles. Cabin is easy walking distance to the lake, business's and eaterys. We enjoyed our stay.

Comfortable, Close to Town - Relaxing
Seriously - no need to drive to Angry Trout, Sven & Ole’s, Gunflint Lodge or the liquor store~ Hike Artists’ Point...etc - super simple base camp - great not to over think it~

Fantastic all around
We loved our stay! The cottage is close to everything and was a fantastic retreat after exploring the town and hiking the beautiful mountains!

nice little place for two
Our only issue would be with the very small electric hot water tank. We had to space our showers apart enough for one of us not to run out. Otherwise, we had a really nice 4 days / 3 nights.

The history of the cottage was a fun to imagine. It started its life as a Montgomery Ward catalog bungalow/cottage. The current finish is adorable.

Close to everything but feels tucked away
The cottage was exactly the type of place I was looking for for a couple nights away solo. The placement of the windows made it feel like I was much more away from others than I actually was, which was perfect. I walked just a block and a half to the co-op to pick up groceries and used the thoughtfully stocked kitchen to cook and bake! The gas fireplace in the evenings set the perfect mood. My only suggestion would be to add one or even two more small lamps in the living area for evening reading. I just brought the one from the bedroom back and forth with me to light things up enough to read and do the crossword puzzle. You cannot beat Grand Marais for a relaxing getaway, and this was a great place to enjoy it. Thank you!

Cozy and a great location
The Mokki Cottage is adorable, with brightly painted trim in and out, and many little touches such as numerous shelves and hooks for the many things we brought. We cooked several excellent meals in the kitchen, LOVED the sunken breakfast nook, and enjoyed the gas fireplace very much. Even though visiting in the middle of winter, the cottage was toasty warm. Extra points for being around the corner from Voyageur Brewing! Will definately stay there again. Can't wait!

The cottage was very cozy
It has everything you need. A bed to sleep in a cozy fireplace in the living room and there was a small bear kitty corner from our from door. He was eating someone's fallen apples. You're right on the edge of town, but you feel like your out in the wilderness.

Mokki Cottage
this a quaint little cottage with a wonderful location. There were three adults and we found it just right. We loved the little dining nook and found it a great place to play games in the evening. The location is central to everything in town. We hope to stay here again.

Would have liked to be able to use the gas stove for ambiance in the blustery wet weather. Never did figure that out. Coffee pot gave metallic taste to coffee .
