About this cabin rental
“Marúaweeka,”
(“Welcome” in the Uto-Aztecan language spoken by the people) to Doves Rest Cabins – Comanche!
The Comanche’s were fierce warriors who reached present-day New Mexico, the Texas Panhandle and Palo Duro Canyon by 1700. During that time, their population increased dramatically because of the abundance of buffalo. Though the tribe was large, they never formed a single tribal unit, but rather, were divided into some eight to twelve independent groups. Sharing the same language and culture, they sometimes fought, and other times at peace, cooperating one with the other, similar to the modern family today!
Comanche in their native language is “Numinu”, meaning the People. And, Comanche Cabin is just that…for the People. We are proud to bring you this newly constructed home with a universal and accessible design to accommodate a wide variety of guests. This single floor house has been specially designed to accommodate people of all ages, genders, sizes and physical abilities. 36” wide doorways and hallways, generously sized bathrooms with roll in shower, staggered height kitchen countertops, front entrance and back patio low thresholds for wheelchair ease of access are some of the notable features that make Doves Rest Cabins – Comanche accessible to the PEOPLE.
Comanche is a three-bedroom, two- full bath, in a very accessible, functional and cozy 1,440 sq. ft. design. The cabin features a wood burning fireplace, covered patio and BBQ grill. The fully equipped kitchen offers everything you need to make you feel at home. Clean linens and towels are provided for your comfort along with extra blankets for cozy nights.
Unwind and enjoy magical moments while the golden light mixed with clouds plays over the expanse of Palo Duro Canyon State Park. One of the best features of the lovely view from this cabin is the vistas one can see in an 180 degree angle.
Only 16-miles from the city of Canyon, home to West Texas A & M University and just 30-miles south from Amarillo and historic Route 66. There is plenty of shopping, restaurants, museum’s and all local amenities to enjoy in the “city.”

We enjoyed our 4th of July at this lovely home. We highly recommend their concierge services as well. Their private chef and their help organizing made my husbands birthday special.

Great location with views of Palo Duro Canyon. Well maintained home. Chilled Cava in the fridge! Perfect!

This place was a dream come true! From the moment we arrived until our departure, we lived in the lap of luxury. If I could give this 100 stars I would.
The beds were so comfortable with fluffy pillows and soft linens. Both bathrooms were wonderful with excellent shower heads, and we appreciated the cozy bathrobes.
The kitchen and living room were fantastic. I especially loved the sofa that overlooked the porch and canyon view. The view was breathtaking at sunset and equally so in the morning.
This is my favorite VRBO stay ever. I’m already trying to see if we can revisit Dove’s Rest on our way home.

Beautiful home. Gorgeous view, which is not fully appreciated by the photos online. It is rather secluded (which we liked.) The ‘White Room’ was very fun. The beds were very comfortable. The only suggestions I would make are to have more dish towels and a few more rugs. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and the soothing showers, but the tile floors were extremely slippery if treading with wet feet. Thank you!

Can’t say enough about the facility or the management. The former is awesome but the latter is better. We shall return!

We took my grandmother to the Texas play and this was the perfect set up for us! We had four generations staying and it was a fit for all of us. Would definitely book again!

Beautiful house over Looking the Canyon. Everything was first rate! Welcomed by a beautiful bottle of Champagne 😊 10 minutes from the canyon park. 100 miles long second largest following the Grand canyon. Also a live musical about the history of Texas. If I could give 10 stars I would. We will all be coming back! My Aunt and Uncles-had a wonderful
stay. My Aunti Lora turned 79.

Apparently, the previous renters did not open the flue when using the fireplace, so the entire house along with the bedding, towels, and furniture smelled like burned hickory. Everyone who entered the house immediately commented on the overwhelming smell. After showering, our hair smelled like hickory after being dried with the towels. The robes were high quality and soft but smelled so badly we couldn't enjoy using them. The stone on the fireplace was completely covered in soot that would come off on our hands when we touched it. When we arrived home, our personal items that were hanging on the doors or laid on the table surfaces needed to be cleaned to get rid of the burned wood smell.
We had to purchase our own toiletpaper, trash sacks, and paper towels as the supply provided was very limited.
The house was beautiful and the view was amazing but I would hesitate to stay there again due to the extremely overbearing smell of burned wood.

Our stay with Dove's Rest Cabins was about as close to perfect as anywhere we have stayed! The luxury cabin had everything we needed and was the best location for viewing and visiting the cabin.

We had a wonderfully windy stay atop the canyon rim. The house was as described with the exception of the white room, which is actually a converted garage and a bit dark. Cleverly themed though, loved Cream.

I stayed here with two of my girlfriends and the place was perfect. We each had a very comfortable room, the views were amazing, the hot tub hit the spot after long days of hiking, and the kitchen was well stocked with all kinds of pots pans and gadgets for cooking. All that and the entrance to the park was just a 10 minute drive from the house.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is nicely equipped and comfortable with all we needed. The views are incredible and it was extremely peaceful. We travel with our doodles, this home has a fenced backyard that allowed our pups plenty of space to roam.

Awesome place. Incredible host and the views are something out of a movie.
We were graciously welcomed. The host is incredibly friendly. They make themselves available for any needs or concerns. Cannot say anything but good and, that is a rare thing. They definitely are superior compared to any other places we have stayed. CS

Amazing Experience!
What an amazing experience, we have travelled to Canyon multiple times but this was our first Doves Rest experience. The house was exactly like the pictures - it was clean, well stocked and had some extra perks we weren’t expecting! We will be booking again for future trips!

Excellent, but still...
We enjoyed our stay so very much. When we arrived the place was spotless but there was still some trash in the can. I called the customer service line, just to make sure we had enough room in the bigger bin and to find out where the bigger bin was, and there was someone at our house in 3 minutes to correct the error. We didn't need them to come, but they were there before my brother could find the trash bin. Excellent customer service.
Because of Covid, we had planned to cook and eat every meal at home. We were able to make all four meals with ease. We highly recommend the Meat Lab in Canyon) We brought our own spices, of course, and was hoping they had a well stocked kitchen with cutlery and glasses -- and, they could have done better. There were only 5 knives and 3 appropriate wine glasses, but we went into Canyon one afternoon to see some museums and bought a few more wine glasses -- and left them there. But if you are planning on making a "Thanksgiving dinner" as the description says is possible -- make sure you bring some finer glassware. (admittedly, I am a bit of a glass snob in full disclosure)
The last day we were there apparently the last hour we were there the water quit on us. We tried to finish off the best we could -- called them on the way out -- again the customer service was instant and fantastic. They were on their way over, but we were on our way out. The response time for anything we needed was 5 star!!!!
This location is fantastic to the park. We woke up every morning at 6, was in the park by 7 and out by 10 doing a hike a day. We showered, went into town to see museums (and, buy glasses ;) and returned for dinner. The accommodations and view could not have been more perfect. The evenings devine and the beds -- out of this world comfortable.
We will be back for sure. If they'll have us.

comfortable, clean and great proximity to the canyon!
The Comanche house had absolutely everything we needed for our 3-day stay. The kitchen was incredibly well equipped, the beds were super comfortable, and the view was beautiful! We especially appreciated how close it was to the entrance of the park. Highly recommend!

Great Views!
This seemed to be the only cabin with a fence. We had a small dog with us and needed the added safety for her. Would be perfect for people with small children as well. Fence is low and does not obstruct views.
