A great little budget hotel packed with character and staffed by cheerful, helpful people in the very centre of Chester.
3.6
It was right in the city centre, you can walk to everything....The staff were fantastic.
Nothing I didn't like
3.6
Perfect location reasonable price lovely bathroom
Room looked slightly tired but bathroom was excellent
3.6
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
We were on the 3rd floor and no lift , my partner has mobility issues. It had no car park. Also no breakfast was available.
3.6
Location excellent room clean and comfortable lack of central light in room and scuff marks on wall but apart from that comfy bed clean bathroom would recommend didn’t eat there so can’t comment on breakfast
Stair carpet abit dated and worn didn’t use bar area but it looked okay
3.6
Location was perfect, staff very friendly, breakfast was lovely

Central position
We booked a place to sleep. The Commercial is a place to party, so sleep was very difficult. The bar manager explained that this is well advertised, but there is nothing about it in the booking.com description.
All in all, if you want to party into the early hours, this is the place for you. If you want to sleep, book elsewhere.

Great central location right in the heart of the city

It’s located perfectly
The only thing was my mattress / no breakfast facility

Music booming till 2am

Great location and good room size
Hotel bar closed
No breakfast available
Failure to notify us of either

We eat out jut around the corner. Biggest breakfast I've seen for a while.
3.6
Rooms are big and have fridges. Large bathroom
The noise from the club was unbelievable. My friend recorded it at 76 decibels. In the bedroom you thought were in the middle of the club. I read complaints about noise but this was beyond noisy.
3.6
We didn't have breakfast, but the suite we had was amazing and the staff was lovely too
I liked everything

location was fantastic for Chester city centre. staff very helpful and attentive

the pub itself is overall tatty

Facilities and room was great for price
Very unclear where to check in upon arrival. Music was blasting until 2am, couldn’t sleep as this was right below us. Cold in room, staff rude.
3.6
Loved the location as it is situated in church yard so nice and quiet. Jay who showed us in was lovely he let us leave our heavy bag for an hour before check in. When checking in he took our heavy bag upstairs for us and reccomended Jaxx a music bar that we went to that night and it was Great Bathroom wss lovely shower bath and two sinks
No heating through the building just plug in oil filled heater in room. No hot water in bathroom till. 8am. Lots of stock everywhere seemed very unorganised. You have to.use a"ring" door bell or telephone them to enter. No "personality" in the building just a picture of the two male managers on the wall. Bar not open breakfast not available

perfect location right in the center of Chester.

The location was great, right in the middle of everything. The manager was very friendly. I had the Byron suite which had a bedroom, bathroom and living area. Cosy and warm. Bathroom has underheating flooring. Very comfortable stay.
3.6
Comfortable clean beds and room. Nice bath.
Hotel forgot we were arriving 19.00 and reception closed 17.00. Had immense help from a member of the neighbouring hotel who couldn't do enough to make us comfortable and get us access to the hotel.
3.6
Generally easy to find but only because we know the layout of Chester.
The staff, plain and simple. Ordered a drink at the bar, told one price, when handing money over, stated another. When having a drink
In the courtyard, staff were setting up tents, it was raining and the staff used a broom to push the water from the top which then came down and soaked a lot of people.

Location & comfort
Noise from below going on past 02.00 hours

Staff was amazing. Friendly and helpful on entry room was much bigger than expected. Few things that needed upgrading wallpaper peeling, sink plug stuck, no main light in the bedroom all lamps. Bed was comfy carpet going up stairs is massively in need of a new one seeing that put me of staying until we got into the room and I thought it’s not that bad. You can see the muck and how worn down it is doesn’t effect sleeping arrangements but does effect the first glance.
Ok so we did read the reviews or the small print on booking ( our fault ) but the 2am dJ was the worst experience of my life not the hotels fault!! But I think sending a email just before check in is not the best experience to say there is a live dJ, there is also a 65.00 deposit needed which again is not stated on check in honestly we did not stay for the night night life just shopping and light drinks so this hotel was no great for us but if you want to get steaming and crash then maybe. I think it needs more notice that it’s so lively again not the hotels fault.

Hotel was very clean and room was fantastic 👌
A long walk from the station but that is not the hotels fault

The staff were excellent and very welcoming, the room was easy to access, and the location of the bar was perfect. It's a little hidden away from the road, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the alleyway that takes you to the courtyard. The room was nice and spacious with a double sinked bathroom along with a bath and shower. The room was clean and well kept, and check out was easy.
Although we were prior warned about noise, this didn't affect us as we were staying mid week. The only noise was the beer delivery in the morning, but we were awake by then anyway.
To be nit picky the room needed some TLC e.g paint was peeling off the walls in the bathroom and the shower temperature wouldn't change no matter how far over to cold it was. The mattress has a visible dip both sides but was comfortable non the less. The carpets leading upstairs are very well worn and have the usual old pub grime to them but this didn't take away anything.
The only real gripe was a few of the plug sockets didn't actually fit a normal plug as they where too small so the lovely vanity area with a seat and mirror were a bit pointless.

The location
Quite noisy and the bed mattress needs replacing - v uncomfortable and has a big dent in it.
3.6
Beds comfortable booked single beds by mistake but just pushed together
Carpets need changing filthy. Could here man upstairs having a pee then on flushing the noise went on forever. Then at seven in the morning drain men came for empty barrels and rolled each and everyone down narrow stone corridor.

Great location we were warned about the noise and we're expecting it..... to be fair the atmosphere was absolutely buzzing when we git back to hotel seemed like hundreds of people dancing and partying to live a DJ who playing the kind of music you don't mind loud. Defo stay here again when visiting Cheshire. A really popular spot.
Nothing. Great value for money.

Great location. Very clean, lovely bathroom with products 😍
Can be noisy with window open as drinkers in courtyard outside.

room was spacious and in very good location
friendly staff and very helpful

Owners very plesent and location great right in centre of the town
Just looking tired , needs a little tlc , but owners were starting to renevate
3.6
Room was huge....Nice entry area for the suite, good size bedroom area, huge bathroom.
It's not a dislike. It's a note. This is a pub with bedrooms above. So especially at weekends there will be noise as Chester's finest enjoy a night out. Not a problem. I enjoyed listening to them singing along to the DJ!
3.6
the room was very nice everything you needed tea & coffee etc
we arrived no reception area got given are keys at the bar which while we were there weren't open apparently advertising 3 bars no facilities what so ever in hotel didn't see any staff you got given room key with door key to get back in hotel great location tho.
