Dragon’s Lair is a hidden gem! Wish we had more time to spend there. Will definitely return if available.

The unit is a whole second floor over the owner's craft shop (their house is next door) and has its own covered carport. Inside it is like a giant loft apartment, with a full kitchen (lots of appliances, full-sized frig),and lots of closet space, washer and dryer (!!!). Table to seat four, Dish TV, big couch and reclining chair, games in a cabinet, huge bookshelf full of books, comfortable bed that looks out on garden. Lots of places to charge your devices. Gorgeous garden of owner. Bathroom does not have a tub but has a huge shower stall. I imagine this is a hygiene concern so appreciate why. But my achy bones would have liked a soak after hikes! The place is very tastefully decorated and has a heat pump AC that does the job and is almost soundless. It is very quiet and secluded in a wooded area inside the city limits of Mt. Shasta, just a mile from stores, but so wooded you could pretend you are in the outskirts. Overall, just a gorgeous place. I almost don't want to tell you, lest you compete for my stay another time!

Our impeccable hosts were above and beyond kind and friendly, making it one of the most personable experiences we’ve had. The place was beautiful and so thoughtfully cared for. We learned about great local spots and cultural events and wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be back!

The one bedroom cottage was lovely with Mt Shasta view and beautiful flower garden. Owner John and Sandy was very easy going.
The place has everything we need. It is tucked away in a private street in the serene woods, yet walking distance to downtown.
We will definitely recommend it to anyone!

Our stay at the dragons lair exceeded our expectations immensely! The host’s were very communicative and it was an absolute pleasure to meet them: The place itself was extremely beautiful and clean with lots of storage space and a beautiful garden that is very loved and tended to on a daily basis. I loved how the place wasn’t attached to the host’s house so that we didn’t have to worry about being to loud after a certain time. We felt like we entered a healing portal of love and synchronicities as soon as we entered the property. 10/10 recommend to anyone who is seeking a safe space to explore and heal their inner worlds while taking in the beautiful mysteries that Mount Shasta offers along with being very close to the actual mountain.
Thank you so much John and Sandy we will definitely be back 🙏😇

This is a beautiful place tucked into a quiet pocket and low key neighborhood. The place has a great view of the mountain and the setting has a beautiful sanctuary feel to it. You are close enough to town that travel is very easy, yet you feel very close to nature and the wilderness. The loft is very spacious and comfy, I did not want to leave. You will love this place, especially with the extra touches that John and Sandy have added to their gardens and property. They are so welcoming and sweet you will feel that you have known them for years. One of the best places I have stayed, I will be coming back as often as possible in the future!

Property was quiet. The Dragon’s Lair was comfortable and clean. The kitchen actually was stocked with plenty of pans in silverware plus spices and some condiments in the fridge…
I definitely will stay again. I really enjoyed our trip.
The owners were very helpful and friendly.

This was our first visit to Mount Shasta and we couldn’t have chosen a better location and hosts. John and Sandy were simply amazing and were only outdone by the beauty of their property and gardens! Our kids loved staying in the apartment and were thrilled when John told them about the ‘hobbit hut’.
We plan to stay here each time we visit Mt Shasta and recommend that you not miss this gem by the mountain!
Thanks again to our amazing hosts :)

Relaxing with beautiful gardens & close to Mt Shasta & trails.

Tranquil mountain retreat overlooking a beautiful & extensive garden. The private patio & windows allow you to gaze at Mt. Shasta by day & observe the clarity of the stars at night.
John & Sandy have provided wonderful tips & insights to exploring the area. They have equipped their apartment with every little detail needed to make a great meal or to offer a local restaurant recommendation.
The location is great where it is secluded & surrounded by nature but close to town. You can quickly get to a falls or hiking area. We enjoyed our stay tremendously!

The Garden Loft was the perfect place for my friends and I. We came here to snowboard for the weekend and wanted to make sure to beat the holiday crowd. Had everything we needed to enjoy our weekend.
The loft is within minutes of everything in Mount Shasta. John, our host, greeted us when we arrived and gave all the info we needed on Mount Shasta and had very organized binders about Mount Shasta history, places to eat, birds to see and even about the flowers.
The kitchen was perfect. It has all your essentials to make a great dinner. It also had many extras likely left from past guest.
We also really enjoyed having a TV. We usually don’t watch television much but after snowboarding we were exhausting and watched many movies. The loft has a decent selection of DVDs as well.
The property was gorgeous, quiet, and a very accommodating host. Highly recommended.

Thank you so much to John and his wife for creating such a comfortable and lovely place to stay! Everything was so clean, well thought out and enjoyable. We cooked a few nice meals in the well stocked kitchen, enjoyed some DVDs during the rain and generally were able to relax! We found wonderful sledding at Bunny Flats for our children! Highly recommend this sweet cottage.

My wife and I were looking for somewhere to take our 3-year-old to the snow for the first time. We're not a ski family, and prices near the resorts were pretty steep slopes. But this small apartment was the right price, minutes away from snowy Shasta fun, and came with so many bells and whistles! I didn't need most of the kitchen gear I'd packed, imagining a cabin vibe -- you want a pizza slicer, barbecue tongs, soup ladle (or takeout menus)? Laundry and dishtowels and a coffeemaker? You're covered! Everything was very clean and easy to locate. We mostly hung out inside and enjoyed the quiet between preschooler-length hikes in the snow -- but if you're more out-and-about, there are lots of suggestions for you. Owners John and Sandy offered us the use of their grandkids' toys, and our little one enjoyed roaming the grounds, gathering pinecones and pebbles. The winter garden shows so much promise and the care of over 40 years -- I would love to see it in the growing season! The best part of this vacation was knowing that someone else was around to take care of the property -- including clearing the drive and the road for our ambitious Prius -- and if we needed anything they would be right there to help.

Would recommend!!!

This garden loft far exceeded our expectations! The unit is like a large efficiency apartment with accommodations for every need; lots of storage, full laundry, plenty of linens, full kitchen, lovely back deck, enclosed covered parking with direct covered access into the unit. Lots of windows and natural light.
The owners have prepared 4 binders that provide just about every bit of information you need to successfully navigate the area. We very much enjoyed shopping at Berryvale Grocery for lots of vegan and organic options. Also highly recommend Yaks for breakfast, and Pipeline and Sparky's Landing (AMAZING pizza) for lunch/dinner.
The setting makes this rental especially lovely. The unit overlooks the beautiful yard and gardens with Mt. Shasta in the background. The deck off of the unit is peaceful and private. It feels like an alpine mountain chalet! Very quiet and peaceful but only 1.5 miles from town. It's a perfect location!
John and Sandy were the most lovely hosts. You can tell they genuinely care about the experience they provide their guests. Ours couldn't have been better!!
Thank you John and Sandy. We WILL be back!!

The cottage is upstairs over the carport where you park your car. It is a lovely place—spotless, very light, the kitchen window looks out over their beautiful garden. It is setup as a studio in that there isn’t a bedroom with a door but the bed area is off to the side in its only little alcove with 2 built in dressers for your use—quite ingenious! There is a deck with outdoor table & chairs & BBQ which is quite private. It is located less than a mile from downtown Mt Shasta and was very quiet and peaceful. John gave a very thorough introduction to hiking trails and other nearby places worth visiting. They also put together a series of binders with hiking trail maps, other outdoor activities in the area, the geological and general history as well as fun facts of the area, places to eat and buy groceries. It was a wealth of information which was extremely helpful! I hope to come back another time and stay longer. I highly recommend John & Sandy as hosts and their beautiful cottage in the garden.

Wonderful apartment
This property is beautiful. It's in a quiet location and the garden is amazing in July. Everything we needed for cooking meals was available in the kitchen. The place is spotless and has a washer/dryer for your use.
The hosts were kind and helpful. John even brought us fresh picked veggies from the garden. So delicious.
We will definitely be back.

Perfect Shasta stay
Fantastic private guest home. Beautiful gardens to visit. Nestled in gorgeous trees, and still close to “downtown” Shasta. Jesus to communicate with owners, very hospitable. 100% recommended.

wonderful stay in snowy mt shasta
Everything about our stay was perfect. Thank you, John and Sandy for welcoming us in your garden loft. We enjoyed cooking our own meals in the excellent kitchen, the easy access to snow and nature, and the recommendations for nearby places to explore (ice rink, waterfall hike, sledding spot). We appreciated the extra night of stay and we hope to come again soon :). - Madelaine and family

So much more than just a comfy stay!
The loft is beautifully laid out, uses space so well it feels much larger than the numbers. Very comfortable, very nicely appointed, new throughout. Lovely wood furniture. View of the mountain! The garden is glorious, flowers and veg. But the key EXTRA here is the hosts: Starting with big binders of local food and attractions, how-tos, important info and good Wifi, all the way to personal gardening advice, genuinely warm people when needed, no botheration when not. QUIET. Away from town, so you have that 'in the forest' feel, but just a half-mile away when you need something. Mt. Shasta City isn't a city; it's a small town (my hometown is miniscule and calls itself a city, too!) but it has all the amenities you need and none that you don't, to make a restful or exciting getaway, and with the Hansons as your host, you enter your adventure completely ready with insider info. Hubby and I really can't praise this place and these hosts enough. One advantage of the next-door-carriage-house location: Hubby could observe a midnight lunar eclipse and do other potentially-bothersome nocturnal activities of the amateur astronomer and neither hosts not neighbors (a dim distance away) were bothered.
We are definitely recommending that you stay here!

Perfect Getaway
This Garden Loft in Mount Shasta was the absolute perfect place to stay for me, my husband and our teenage daughter. It was charming, cozy, comfortable, and was a wonderful home away from home.
The owners, John and Sandy, were very kind and welcoming. My family definitely felt like we made new friends in them.
I highly recommend this little gem if you’re looking for a place to stay. My family and I will stay again for sure.

Amazing!
My husband, 2 kids and myself stayed here for 3 nights and 2 days and had an amazing time. John and Sandy were so welcoming and their property is one of the prettiest I have ever seen. The garden, which is quite obviously a labor of love, sits nestled in the woods with a peek-a-boo view of Mt Shasta. It is lovely to sit in the garden and enjoy the space and the birds and animals that visit. They have plenty of toys, an outdoor swing and a zip line that our kids loved and asked to play on every day! John and Sandy gave us so much information about the area, and shared many of their garden's tasty delights with our family as well. We can't wait to return!

Perfect getaway surrounded by nature
John and Sandy's garden loft was amazing! The location was excellent. It's on a private road, so it's very quiet, secluded and nested in nature. It's less than a mile from town so it's still convenient, lots of stores and restaurants. We were surrounded by wildlife with cute squirrels and lots of birds chirping. An owl landed on our balcony and drank water from the little fountain, an incredible sight to see. The loft was cute and had everything we needed. We enjoyed having meals on the balcony overlooking the garden and the mountains. John and Sandy were very kind and helpful. They put together binders that had maps, activities, restaurant menus, basically everything you ever needed to know about the area. The air was smoky from the nearby wildfires when we arrived, and they offered to refund our stay if we wanted to leave, such a generous and thoughtful gesture, but we stayed and it rained the next day and it cleared up. John gave us a tour of their beautiful garden and he cut some lettuce and a bunch of other veggies for us to make a great salad for dinner. If you're looking for a peaceful getaway in nature, this is the perfect place.

awsome
Nestled in the pines of Mt. Shasta we found our home away from home.We stayed Labor Day weekend with the beauty of nature’s wild birds and overlooking a beautiful garden area. The chalet is separate from the main house was very comfortable and gave us some time to ourselves. The chalet had all the amenities you could ask for plus a nice deck to sit and watch the beautiful surroundings.
Our hosts John and Sandy who greeted us upon arrival showed us around and we’re a lot of help. Thank you.
We will definitely stay again in our home away from home.
See you in the spring if not before. Thank you so much

Superb place to stay
Myself and wife completed a 10 day stay at this location and would highly recommend it. The location is an ideal setting for those looking to be tucked in amongst the beautiful trees and nature of Mount Shasta while being in walkable distance to town if needed.
What made our stay even that much more exceptional were the hosts of this property John and Sandy. Some of the most freindly and benevolent people one could ask to meet while traveling, thank you!!

Sweet Loft in Shasta
I love it when the VRBO description of one of their listed properties turns out to be even better than I expected. The loft is cozy, laid out well, warm (important in the winter), quiet, beautiful, enchanting...and I could go on and on. John and his wife were great hosts. They got us checked in right away, were friendly and gave us the privacy we were looking for. We will definitely be back; hopefully in the summer so we can enjoy their lovely garden.

You won't regret this choice!
Where to begin. This had to be the most welcoming and relaxing location I have found yet. The owners are amazing folks and very welcoming. The loft is very warm, comfortable and truly feels like home. The view from the patio can capture a lot of your time by just looking at the surrounding forest and wildlife and not to mention Mt. Shasta poking through the tree tops. I will not be able to describe the true feeling except I will come back; many, many times. I've look back on the pictures I have taken and look at times in the future to head back their. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.

Magical Shasta Cottage
A wonderful experience. Thank you John and Sandy for opening your doors and sharing your space. Everything was convenient, cozy, beautiful. The garden was beautiful in its splendor, below the mountain, close to town, secluded, inviting and peaceful. You are wonderful hosts, and I look forward to returning very soon.

Wonderful English Chateau getaway with fully stocked kitchen and great atmosphere
Exactly as described, with a fabulous kitchen, just minutes from Mt. Shasta downtown, but nestled in the woods. Super comfy bed. John was eminently courteous, with lots of helpful information and great local stories. This is a place to remember, and take lots of photos!

Peaceful loft apartment in heart of Mt. Shasta
This was my 4th stay in John and Sandy’s wonderful loft - which says it all. Comfortable, private apartment with everything you might need for a short or extended stay, surrounded by beautiful gardens. Close to center of town but in a peaceful woodland area off the road. John and Sandy are gracious hosts who will make you feel at home. I look forward to returning next year - this time for much longer so that I can fully enjoy all that this amazing mountain location has to offer.

Had a really nice 4-night stay in this quiet, private loft. All the amenities you could want. Very clean; comfortable bed with a wooded landscape view. The owners John and Sandy are welcoming and very respectful of guests. They have a beautiful property set outside the town, but just a 10 minute walk away from restaurants, cafes and shops. I would highly recommend this garden loft.
