Mendocino Dunes - Dune Flower
Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'
The Dune Flower, one of four cabins in the Mendocino Coast Dunes Retreat complex, is a great place for a small group to stay, though it can also be rented together with the other three houses for a fun-filled group vacation! This cabin has a charming nautical theme, a clean and comfortable design, and a dog-friendly attitude, so everyone will love it here! Up to four people are may stay in this one-bedroom, one-bathroom home which features a full-size bed in the bedroom and a comfortable fold-out futon. Feel free to bring your dogs to enjoy the vacation with you, though a nightly fee per dog and minimum fee per stay will apply. With a delightful nautical theme, you will feel very welcome in the living area, which comes complete with a TV, a DVD player, free WiFi access, and a cozy gas fireplace. There is no full kitchen, but the kitchenette offers a mini-fridge with a freezer, a microwave, a toaster oven (but no regular oven), and a small two-burner hot plate so you can whip up a snack easily.
In the grassy backyard area, privacy fencing will keep you separate from the other cabins. A nice deck area with seating and a firepit nearby is a great place to sit in the evening, telling stories, relaxing in the cool sea air, and roasting a few marshmallows on the fire. This cabin would be a lovely place for a small family or a few friends to spend a nice vacation, though it would also be wonderful to rent all four cabins at the same time and invite all your loved ones! With the beach nearby, the beauty of nature surrounding you, and towns within a short drive away, you may never want to leave. With a fun theme, this ship-shape cabin is a comfortable place to stay during your vacation!
Located about seven miles north of Fort Bragg, this home is just over half a mile from the sparkling ocean; though if you want easy beach access, you may want to drive to MacKerricher State Park, because the walk from the cabin over the dunes is a bit hilly.
THINGS TO KNOW
The WiFi can be spotty at times and may not be dependable for remote work or streaming.
The privacy fencing is not completely fenced.
The local area is in its drought season. We ask you to use the water very sparingly, as this home is on a well, and to be mindful of the situation and conserve as much water as possible.
If you are bringing a dog on your trip, the pet fee is already included in your quote when selecting ‘Yes’ to pets. If you would like to add more dogs, please contact us. The pet fee is per stay and ranges between $150 and $200, depending on the bedroom count, and will apply for each additional dog.

The solitude and beautiful grounds

The house was adorable and perfect for our relaxed little family of four and fur kids. We are easy going and really don’t need too much. With that said it was a rainy weekend and the walk from our vehicle to the house was extremely wet, socks, shoes, bottom of pants soaked. A nice little stepping stone walkway would be awesome. But unlike the rest of my family I packed rain boots and didn’t have an issue. The area was serene the hike to the beach definitely a crows mile, we didn’t ever end up making it there as the kids gave up and we turned around and ended up driving to the beach. We definitely would stay there again.

Wonderful cottage walking distance to the dunes--every appointment and comfort available. Just a wonderful way to spend some quiet time.

This was a cute little place for a single or small group to stay. The location is close to 10 Mile Beach, although it requires a hike across dunes to get to the beach itself. Plan your walking route with care--some routes are better than others. I realized after the fact that dogs were not allowed on this beach, an important consideration for those staying at this dog friendly lodging. I suspect that most dog owners booking this unit are expecting a beach walk...There is a spacious lawn for dog potty breaks but no fenced-in area and all outdoor activities require a leash. The decor is a bit kitschy but the cabin is cozy and bed comfortable. The kitchen is well supplied, just be aware there is a hot plate and toaster oven instead of the full appliances. The tap water tastes great! There is a smell to the place upon arrival--a bit musty or like moth balls? It either dissipated two days in or I became used to it.

Cabin itself was clean, a couple of cobwebs. Outside patio, chairs, windows, and skilights could have been cleaner. Futon was really uncomfortable to sit on. Marking to find cabin needs to be more clear in directions. Overall, nice for short stay.

The cabin was the perfect size for my husband and I and our two dogs. We had everything we needed for a perfect get away!

Me my girl n my dog Dab had great time wish i would have stayed long than 4days...lil passed fortbrag so have yr stuff ready.

This place was cute but I should have paid better attention when booking. Bed was full size. Bathroom door was a flimsy thin plastic accordion door that didn’t latch all the way…didn’t leave much to the imagination. Quite a few spiders and spiderwebs on walls and low ceiling around the bed. Also checkout was pretty early… 10 am. On a better note: fridge/freezer worked great, yard area was very nice, internet worked well, it was very quiet, they provided fans for air movement/white noise at night. Probably wouldn’t return but it wasn’t too bad.

The area is amazing. This lil rustic cottage was so fun! Beautiful grounds.

The fire pit off the back deck was great. The big yard was great.

quietness, nice decor, good shower, light
good, for 1 nite only, no bathsoap, 1 small spoon, greasy electrical fryer, for the price, passing thru FtBragg area Good 1nite for 2 only, no cable tv....

The house is in the rear. The housing showing on the website is not the one rented!? We enjoyed our stay. It was a lot like camping.
4.3
You can’t walk to beach. Bed was smaller than a double and hard as a rock. Patio furniture was badly rusted and not inviting. TV broken no cable. Very clean but many things were worn out. Too much money for what we got.
4.3
Really enjoyed this lovely cottage and walks through the dunes each morning out to the beach.

If you want a space to relax , be close to water and town, this is the place.

My spouse and I, along with our two dogs. stayed a couple of nights at Dune Flower cottage. We had everything we needed to prepare simple meals. It was cozy and very clean. There was a nice lawn to play with our dogs. The wifi was great so we stayed connected.
There are beautiful dunes to explore behind the cottages but no dogs allowed in the dunes and it is quite a trek if you plan on getting to the beach there. Hidden Beach is just up the road and a great place to take your dogs!
We had a lovely time in Fort Bragg and Mendocino. I would recommend these cottages located on a quiet lane.

The home was very cute with a nice and quiet location. It was nice to have a spacious open layout. The Wi-Fi was extremely spotty and the bathroom door was a collapsible panel type, so make sure you’re comfortable with you’re staying with lol. The trek through the dunes to the private beach was just that, a trek, but it was worth it when we got there with no one else around. Extremely nice to have dishes and a full fridge/freezer plus the microwave and a toaster oven. The bedroom was pretty compact but comfortable. Overall, it was an enjoyable stay and we would come back again.

Very cute place! Looks just like the pictures. Really the only thing missing is the hot tub. Wasn’t advertised as having one, but would be nice if it was running.
4.3
a small cozy well decorated place in a very quiet neighborhood. a couple of notes: only has a hot plate, no laundry appliances and toilet is very short and small. not easy for tall people to use the toilet. I like the place other than the above comments. would use again if toilet was upgraded.
4.3
Place is great! I wish the futon was more updated and the master bed could have been bigger. We had some issue with the toilet but it was manageable. Overall the place is great! We would come back again!

We had sunshine and we had rain and enjoyed all aspects of the beach and weather. Toured the lighthouse, did Trees of Mystery and the aquarium. Would have liked to have rented scooters, but could not find the place. An inhouse list provided by the host would be nice of things to do and GOOD restaraunts nearby, just a suggestion.

to the beach, and so close to being an adequate place to stay. Love the location, but not much else. With a few changes, this place could be amazing: put a queen bed because no couple can fit in that double, a freezer and an oven with a stovetop (there is room for it), clean the mold in the shower, and get some furniture that is comfy and not from the 70's without any support or cushion. Heads up to guests: I do not recommend and cannot imagine 4 adults in this place. It is much too small and the pull out is really uncomfortable and right next to the bathroom. The bed was also really tiny, especially if you're 5'8 and up, so my husband actually slept on the pull out while I slept in the bed. This place could be so great though!
It is a shame. Take some of the clutter off the walls, lose the gross fishing net decor - it would be a cozy, awesome spot. Quaint and cozy does not have to mean old, dusty and cluttered. I hope that someone considers this advice. I rarely leave reviews, but the potential of this place made it too tough not to say something!

We loved the fact that we could walk through the dunes to the beach. The dune walk is not totally easy, but we had the beach almost entirely to ourselves, probably because access takes some work. The only downside of Dune Flower is pretty limited cooking facilities.

Only real issue was the lack of fencing. The listing states privacy fencing which we assumed from the description and pictures meant "fenced in yard". Nope - just a panel of fencing between two cabins. Dogo's were not happy being on leashes all the time.

The house was clean and perfect for two people! We were bummed to find that it was not a short walk to the beach, instead we had to climb sand dunes for 20 minutes. However, the drive to a beach was not too far. The bed was super hard but if you prefer firm then it will be perfect for you. I did enjoy the fire pit in the backyard and the quiet, peaceful atmosphere. It was nice to get away for a while!

Adorable Cottage. Ok perfect for a little getaway. We loved that we could bring our dog. So many places to adventure nearby.

This cabin was perfect for a long weekend on the coast. Very minimal provisions, so if you plan on cooking bring things like olive oil, spices, and tin foil. The hot plate and toaster oven worked well and we were able to get by with no stove. There is no freezer in the mini fridge so pack ice in your cooler. If you don’t have dogs take the opportunity to walk the trail out in the dunes. Really cool views! The local management team was very responsive, as we had an issue with the on-demand water heater and they responded in a couple hours. Thanks for the great getaway!
