Great size for couple or single or 1 child. Near to everything but in a quiet historic area. Patrick is a perfect host. You need something it is done. Otherwise it is your place.

I stayed here for four months while looking for a longer term home in Asheville. This cottage could not be more centrally located - it is close to everything! You can easily walk downtown for shopping and dining, as well as to businesses on Merrimon and Charlotte Streets. The cottage is also just a couple of blocks from the Greenway, which is a great place to walk. I loved being able to safely park my car behind the house, and the fenced yard was such a joy for my dog, who spent hours on the back porch in the sun. It has everything you might need for a great vacation, and you could not ask for a more responsive host. Patrick responded to every question I had immediately. He was the best VRBO host I’ve encountered!

House is in a great location if you like to walk to stores, restaurants and downtown. A nice little fenced yard for the dog along with off-street parking are pluses.

Charming cottage, convenient to grocery stores and downtown Asheville. The house was sparkling clean when we arrived, with two bouquets of fresh flowers. Whenever we had a question or concern Patrick, the owner, responded right away and very helpfully. The cottage was comfortable and we loved being there. We're told someone described this as a "happy house," and that's what it was for us!

Chestnut Cottage truly served as my home away from home during my time in Asheville. It offers tranquil privacy in a great neighborhood that is convenient and close to everything! The fenced in yard was perfect for my two dogs! I highly recommend!

We adored our time here very much. The house is comfortable, cozy and clean. But, the location beats all: 5 minute walk to town, dinner spot right in the neighborhood and a new Italian restaurant opens in Oct., plus so much to see and do. We stayed for 3 months to escape Florida’s summer heat, and what a great decision. Weather July-Aug was little warm, but all the shade trees in the area kept it lovely.
Thank you Patrick and Rebecca for sharing your delightful historic cottage!!

Amazing stay!
This is an awesome long term stay option, especially traveling with pets. The house is older but well cared for and felt very homey. Plenty of room for two of us to work remotely. Loved the fenced yard for our dog plus a spot to park our car. Walkable to downtown Asheville. Patrick was quick to reply with any questions or concerns. We would definitely stay again!

Convenient getaway cottage in great neighborhood
Loved being in the Montford District within an easy walk to downtown, the Botanical Gardens and grocery shopping. Owner was responsive when needed but respected my privacy. My short term guests shared my appreciation for the house and neighborhood. A wonderful month’s vacation.

Great Cottage Centrally Located
We stayed in Asheville for the month of February at this fabulous cottage in the center of Montford. It is centrally located and walkable to a lot of places within the city. The bed was so comfortable, the fenced in backyard was great for our dog, and the cottage was stocked with everything we needed for our stay. The wifi was great and supported two of us working remotely. Patrick was great and responsive to any questions we had. Would absolutely recommend to others to stay.

December in Asheville
This was our first visit to Asheville and we enjoyed our month long stay. The house is located in the charming historic neighborhood. We enjoyed walking in the neighborhood and to downtown Asheville. There are plenty of stores, restaurants and services nearby either by walking or driving. Since it was December many of the houses were decorated with holiday lights. The house was clean, fully stocked and charming. Our dog enjoyed the fenced in yard and also sitting on the couch looking out the window. Lots to see in the neighborhood! Communication with Patrick was excellent before and during our stay. He shared helpful area information. I recommend staying here and would stay here again. Thank you Patrick for your hospitality.

The Montford cottage was everything we could have asked for! Patrick was so helpful and accomodating in making us feel at home. We loved the area and were able to easily walk downtown, go to the park, or get on the greenway. Couldn't reccomend more highly!

Amazing location
The house was in a great neighborhood perfect for our morning walks with the dogs. Everything was so close you could almost walk. Patrick always responded immediately whenever we had questions. Would definitely stay here again and our friends that visited us during our stay felt the same.

Comfortable house a quick walk from town
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay! The cottage had everything I needed, including a very comfy bed. It was such a pleasure being a quick walk to everything downtown has to offer, including great restaurants & live music. (There is a great little Italian restaurant called Chiesa right in the neighborhood, literally 3 blocks away.) My hosts were exceptionally receptive to any questions or requests that I had. I look forward to returning!

Chestnut Cottage is a jewel! Everything we needed
We could not have been happier with the cottage. It was close to downtown and a great place to walk our dog, Walter. The bed was just awesome. Thanks so much, Patrick and Rebecca.

Excellent location, charming house, perfect host
This charming, historical house in Montford is simply wonderful in every way. The house is cozy and comfortable, equipped with everything you need, and has the most comfortable mattress ever! In the mornings the house is brimming with sunlight streaming through the many windows beckoning you to start your day with a walk in this lovely neighborhood. The location could not be better. You are within walking distance to several markets and are a few blocks from downtown shops and access to the highways. The house has off street parking in the back yard where you can enter the home without having to navigate stairs. I traveled with my dog and found the fenced backyard to be a wonderful benefit. The porches are a great spot for enjoying your morning coffee while doing some serious people watching! Rebecca is the reason why your stay will be so perfect. She is a fountain of information about Asheville and she’s happy to take the time to answer any questions you may have. The best part of my six week stay was developing a friendship with Rebecca.
Trust me, folks, you won’t find a better spot to stay than this gem on Chestnut. I can hardly wait to return again myself!

Charming Cottage, Perfect Location
We spent the month of December on E Chestnut and could not have been happier with the accomodations. The cottage is light and bright. Loved sitting at the dining room table watching people walk by. The kitchen was very well equipped. The living room comfortable and cozy. Speaking of comfortable, the bed in the master was heavenly. Our golden retriever was with us and love the fenced back yard.
While the cottage was great, the location was perfect. We walked to town, to the Christmas tour of homes in Montford, to restaurants, to parks. We could also walk to the grocery - Harris Teeter, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods. Especially loved Harris Teeter. Ordered a fabulous Christmas dinner from there. Rebecca even provides a folding cart so you can walk to the grocery and get home with your goods.
If you don't want to walk, but want to get around town or the area, the cottage is only a few blocks from the interstate. Easy access to anywhere including movies, shopping, book stores, and even more restaurants. You also get off-street parking - a real plus in historic Montford.
This review would not be complete without mentioning Rebecca, the owner. She is a lovely lady and truly wants to ensure that her guests are comfortable and have a stay to remember. She provides wonderful accommadations and lots of information about the city of Asheville and the surrounding area. You'll be glad you chose her as your landlady should you stay at her cottage. We recommend that you do so.

Fantastic. This is our home away from home
This is our third summer on Chestnut St., and until we buy something here in Asheville, this will be our summer home away from home. The location is perfect. We can park the car and walk everywhere thus enjoying all the benefits of downtown with the quiet, beautiful, tree lined neighborhood of Montford. Food shopping is just blocks away and we are now such fans of Trader Joes that we don't know how to live without it when we return home. Rebecca is not only a fantastic landlord who attends to our every need, but she also is a tour guide and promoter of everything Asheville. If you want to really experience Asheville in all it's glory and reside in a wonderful historic neighborhood with all the comforts of home....this is it!

Can't wait to come back!
Everything about our visit has been wonderful. Rebecca was here when we arrived to greet us. The house is clean and has everything you need for your stay. The bedding is comfortable, house clean, well stocked, close to many wonderful restaurants, Trader Joe's, Harris Teeter, shopping. Walking around Montfort is so relaxing. Loved the fenced-in back yard! Thank you Rebecca.

Best Rental! Lovely Spring Week in Asheville.
Highly recommend. Great location, cottage and host. The cottage fit us like a glove; felt at home within minutes. We ate all our meals at the cottage (we had dogs we didn't want to leave alone too much), and the kitchen and dining areas were wonderful. The yard was PERFECT for the dogs. Off-street parking was much appreciated. Comfortable beds -- and second all good comments left in other reviews. Rebecca was super helpful; many thanks!!! We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Asheville. Enjoyed the Thomas Wolfe Museum and the Biltmore Estate and walking through Montford. Again, thanks for keeping a watchful eye on the doggies, Rebecca.

Cozy, Comfortable, Charming, Convenient !
My husband and I stayed here in March while visiting family and were very pleased with the property. The friendly owner, Rebecca, was on hand to greet us and acquaint us with the accommodations and amenities. Fresh flowers (!) in the kitchen and dining room made us feel immediately at home. The cottage was very clean and had everything we might need during our stay including the unexpected and much appreciated coffee grinder and a cart for the convenience of carrying groceries back from stores which are within easy walking distance. The charming home is thoughtfully decorated with guest's comfort in mind. A small library of books, music, movies, games, visitor info, Internet access and 2 TVs were at hand. Rebecca's love of Asheville is apparent with the work of local artists displayed in every room. A walk-in closet, accessible from both bedrooms, as well as many built-ins provide plenty of space for storage, even in the bathroom. Only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars....would have liked an additional powder room. Montford has become our favorite neighborhood (don't miss dining at Mile High !) and we hope to find this property available to rent the next time we visit Asheville.

Adorable light filled cottage close to downtown
My Mom (she is 80) rented this cottage for 5 weeks, and absolutely loved her stay here. The off street parking directly behind the house was a big plus, and allowed her easy access without stairs to the house. For those who are able you can easily walk to downtown, grocery stores and a a few restaurants. The cottage sits above the street, and feels very private for a downtown location. It's very quiet here, and my Mom loved having her breakfast at the dining table in front of a large window overlooking the street below. Everything you need is here to make your stay enjoyable! The king size bed is very comfortable. My Mom plans to rent again for her next visit. Many thanks to Rebecca for being such a gracious owner and host!

Great Location
We were very happy with our stay on Chestnut Street. Only a 10 minute walk to Downtown Asheville. We loved that a Trader Joes was only 2 blocks away.
Conveniently located among Historic Montford District. We learned plenty about the Charming Historic Victorian Homes located around the Home we rented. My wife and I did a self guided walking tour of the Old homes and was amazed at some of the history of Montford.
We came to Asheville for a month to escape Florida's muggy rainy season. The weather was perfect, with little ran,and moderate Temps.
We would stay again At this home if ever we return to the Asheville area.
The owners as very nice and accommodating, she even took out our little dog Jake when we spent a day at Biltmore Estates.

Couldn't ask for more
On our 3rd trip to Asheville, we enjoyed staying at the Chestnut Cottage, located in the Montford district of Asheville. We were able to walk to Trader Joe's and Harris Tweeter and could have walked downtown (but chose not to). The cottage was very clean and well stocked. Rebecca was responsive to several requests that we made. All in all, a great place to stay.

Perfect location for our visit.
The cottage was exactly as pictured and the location was ideal for our purposes. Rebecca was reached easily if needed. The toaster oven broke and within hours there was a new one waiting for me on the porch.
The property was clean, in good working order and well stocked.
We will surely stay here again if available on our next trip to Ashville.

Comfortable and Convenient
Wanted to test the waters for a permanent move to Asheville and rented W.Chestnut for it's proximity to the UNCA and the downtown neighborhoods. Home was convenient to everything and when we weren't out exploring, it provided a comfortable, peaceful , well appointed retreat. Rebecca was gracious and responsive and made every effort to ensure we had a pleasant stay. Highly recommend

FABULOUS. Can't wait to return!
This 100+ year old cottage in the Montford historic district of Asheville has everything you could possibly need. In spite of its age, it has all modern conveniences, is spotlessly clean, has incredibly comfortable beds, soft linens & towels, cable TV, wifi, and literally all the comforts of home. The location cannot be beat! It is within walking distance of downtown Asheville, three grocery stores (including Whole Foods and Trader Joes), farmers markets, restaurants, coffee shops, parks and walking trails. Each morning we enjoyed walking our dog through the historic community surrounded by beautifully restored bungalow homes, hundred year old trees, cobblestone sidewalks, colorful landscaping, and pleasant breezes. We came to relax, and that's exactly what we did. Our favorite activity was just sitting on the porch reading books while enjoying the cool breeze as it shifted and wrapped around us.
Rebecca is a welcoming hostess who has wonderful sense of homey decor, and it's clear she knows what travelers need when living away from home. She greeted us upon arrival and made sure everything was up to snuff. If we needed anything, it was quickly provided since she lives only a few blocks away. As a long time resident of Asheville, she was very helpful with pointing out restaurants and activities so that we quickly became accustomed to being Asheville "residents" which we are certainly considering for the long term. We enjoyed our month on Chestnut street so well that we already made arrangements to return next year.
If you want to experience Asheville as only residents can...spend some time in this beautiful old house.

Charming Cottage in a Perfect Location
We just returned from two months at Chestnut Cottage and it was sheer perfection. The cottage was clean and cozy and the best bed in a rental we have ever had. The location could not have been better. We loved the walkability while being in a beautiful quiet neighborhood. No more than a 10-15 minute easy walk and you are just about anywhere in town as well as several market options (Trader Joes/GreenLife/Harris Teeters). We rarely used our car except on those beautiful NC winter days when it would reach 50-55 and we took off hiking. The cottage is a few blocks from the freeway so easy access to get out and explore (15-45 minutes and you are at several spectacular hikes/parks). Thankful we could walk everywhere as we ate our way through Asheville from Chestnut Cottage! Thanks Rebecca for being such a great host we loved our stay.

Perfect!
This is the second time we've stayed in this lovely cottage and we'll be back! It is very comfortable, clean, and welcoming with special artful touches inside and out. The location is fantastic - it's an easy walk to downtown Asheville through this historic Montford neighborhood. Rebecca is a gracious and responsive host!

The cottage is very nice and very clean; the linens are of high quality. The bed is comfortable as well. There is a nice porch to sit and enjoy the mountain air. The owner has made it very comfortable. It is well located. Walking distance to downtown Asheville and Grocery stores. Easy drive to The Biltmore, Grove Park and access to the Blue Ridge Mountains.

My wife and I stayed here in August 2011 and had a very relaxing time. Cottage is open and bright with amenities you hope for while away. The cottage is so close to the downtown area and is a wonderful walk to downtown shopping, eating, relaxing. I loved to sit on the porch in the rocker and read a book and watch the birds all the while having a nice breeze to relax. Very friendly neighbors and the Owner is so easy to work with and if asked can really give lots of tips on things going on in the community and off the "beaten path".
At the end of a busy day it is so wonderful to come "home" and stretch out and read up on things to do and see tomorrow. I brought my laptop with so we could search on-line for sights, i.e. went to Biltmore and was able to print tickets right out to use so did not have to wait in line there. There was a printer and Wi-Fi available or you can use the Ethernet cable to hard wire for internet access. Did not cook in the kitchen (it is vacation after all!) other than 1 meal but was able to find everything needed and was surprised at things available to prepare meals as far as equipment - utensils. The bed was something I looked forward to as not the typical "hard" mattress and really helped get a good night and restful sleep for the next day. The house was clean and inviting which also helped with being relaxed. The owner also allows dogs and we would have brought them with if they could tolerate the trip (we live in Chicago).
I really am looking forward to visit Asheville again and this cottage is at the top of my list for places to stay as it is so close to anything you want to do and see!
