About this cottage rental
Our 'Casa Two' is a unique 1920’s cottage (classic Maine “camp”) in Monmouth, Maine. This is a seasonal property - only open end of May through early October. On Sand Pond, one of five small lakes in the Tacoma Lakes chain - crystal clear water, shore about 12' from lakeside porch, wade in is sandy. (Bit of an incline from shore, accessibility to water and dock could be difficult for some.) Quiet weekdays, some motor boat traffic weekends. Enjoy cool nights, and warm days perfect for swimming, boating, fishing, kayaking walking, reading, writing, thinking, not thinking, and deep relaxation. Breakfast on the porch, lunch outside, dine at a fine restaurant in Lewiston/Auburn, and return for a bedtime lullaby sung by loons. (Note that all bedrooms are all on 2nd floor with steep, narrow stairs up.)

We enjoyed being in the area and was a middle point to the areas we were visiting. Sand Pond was beautiful and hearing the loons calling in the evening was so special.

This was our second stay at Clara's. I grew up in this area and my husband and I enjoy staying here when visiting my family and friends. It is very peaceful, organized and clean. If you are looking for a quiet get away, I highly recommend it. There is so much love and heart in this space. The vibe is tranquil and sweet. Clara communicates the details perfectly and is very respectful of our privacy. I look forward to our next getaway at Clara's.

We just needed to rest from the hectic world. This place gave us that chance. Thank you Clara. We enjoyed our stay.

We are 4 friends who getaway every year for a quiet week in New England. We look for a rustic, but comfortable, cabin on a lake where we can kayak, swim, hike and just relax. The listing was very accurate and we were very pleased with the setting and accommodations. This place was perfect for us. Everything we needed was there. We kayaked all the way to Jimmy Pond, swam from the dock, cooked in the kitchen, used the grill, read on the dock, and hiked locally. It's also close enough to go out to the coast for a lobster dinner (1 hour). We went to Five Islands Lobster.
Klara, our host, was very helpful and pleasant.

Beautiful & Relaxing Lakeside Vacation
We really enjoyed our stay with family at this lakeside camp. The water was beautiful and we loved hanging out on the porch that overlooked the water. The camp was well stocked with everything we needed to cook our meals and convenient to a grocery store - just 10 minutes away.
Klara was very attentive to our needs and installed a new mesh network that greatly improved our WIFI usage. We would love to return to this peaceful and beautiful setting in the future and highly recommend a stay at this cozy camp in Maine.

Calm retreat away from life
This was exactly what my family and I needed! It was super charming with that “rustic Maine camp” feel, just like a camp we had as a family when we were kids. Very comfortable and accommodating. Sitting out in the back deck every morning and evening overlooking the lake was what we did the most. Reading, playing board games and watching the kids swim for hours!
If we could give any criticism, the wifi mention needs a bit of an upgrade as it failed often. But honestly thats it, and that’s minor, we didn’t need it much as we were checked out of technology for the week we stayed!
We will be renting again!!

Such a lovely cabin with a stunning view.
Our family loved the cabin and location. The cabin has everything you could possibly need including the spectacular porch that overlooks the lake.

A very relaxing getaway
What a great little place to stay. As described, this is a Maine camp so there are little quirks, but it was exactly what we needed. Klara was a wonderful and accommodating host who has thought of everything you might need for your stay there.
My only warning for those with a pollen allergy is that end of May through early June may not be the best time for you to visit. The camp (and area) has many pine trees. I was surprised by how severely I reacted to the pollen.
We hope to visit again in years to come! Maybe just a little later in the season :-)

Blast from the past
My husband and I both were born and raised in Maine, we came for a small vacation home and picked Klara's cute cottage on Tacoma lake. I felt like I was 9 years old again at my great grandparents cabin. It was a great place to relive our childhood with our youngest whom is 7. I enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.

Leaf-peeping tour
This property was just as described. It was cozy, yet roomy, with a beautiful setting and view of a calm lake. We would love a chance to return in the future. We didn't stay in the house a lot during the day due to long days of viewing the incredibly beautiful trees at their fall peak. My daughter and I did find time for a short ride in the kayaks, approaching a pair of loons on the lake and later watching the resident muskrat in the water and on shore. This stay was a very relaxing and rewarding time away.

Great Maine camp
If you're looking for an authentic Maine camp experience, this is it. We enjoyed the porch overlooking the lake (all windows that open to screens). We put our boat in from a nearby landing and had it at the dock for our stay. The beds and rooms were perfect for our needs (parents in one room, 4&7 year old in twins in another, and 2 year old in a pack n play we brought in the third.) Everything that mattered was clean (house in general, bathrooms, linens), but don't expect a pristine condition house. The owner was in her home next door. Great host. The house had all we needed. Thank you!

Sweet Lakeside Screened Porch
The screened lakeside porch was the perfect place to spend time talking and playing scrabble with relatives from the area.

Camp at resort prices
The best part of this camp is the owner Klara. She was always helpful . But if you don't realize what a maine camp is you shouldn't go. Spiders, dirty cracked windowsills, old shabby furniture, a toilet in a closet with no sink, no dishwasher, horribly uncomfortable outdoor chairs AND NO level ground to put them on, and a major highway within seeing and hearing.Plus a stairway that is Steep and Narrow and Dangerous.

Lovely getaway
Lovely. We canoed both ponds easily from the dock launch site. We cooked many meals in the spacious well-equipped kitchen. We heard and saw loons calling from the lake (and were fooled by the loon-clock!). We ate meals and read books from the enclosed deck. The laptop workstation table was a perfect place to check emails while viewing the lake, and the stereo plug allowed our music (WMNR.org) to fill the room. Great view from the bedrooms, too. Highly recommended.

Great week on Sand Pond
This is a " Classical Maine Camp ". Cozy and comfortable. The VRBO description was spot on. Karla was a congenial host. Our stay was relaxing as we explored a new area in Maine.

Stay #2
This our second stay with Klara. She is very accessible and friendly to deal with. As with many old cottages, this one has it’s quirks, but we loved the view, the closeness to water, and the overall layout of the place. Please note: If mobility issues are a problem, the access to the water and shoreline are difficult.

Idyllic and quaint
Idyllic and quaint, the cottage on the lake was perfect for our family and our needs. We enjoyed sitting in the back room looking over the lake, reading, and listening to the loons. Kayaking and canoeing we're also a fun activity that we enjoyed.

Pure heaven
My family and I fell instantly in love! We walked in and it felt like coming home. This cabin has had lots of life and love walk through her. She has character!! Klara was an absolute dream of a host! We would have loved to have sat on the porch with her and gotten to know her better! She was helpful with lots of good tips and suggestions for things to do and places to go. Our first trip to Maine wont be our last! Thank you Klara for everything, we love ol Casa 2!!

My family and I had a wonderful time at Klara’s Maine cottage. The porch overlooks Sand Pond where we spotted loons and a beaver in between dips in the lake (an unexpected bonus: who would have thought the water would be warm enough in May?) We celebrated my daughter’s Bates graduation. Various family members stopped by to to raise a toast and there was plenty of room for all of us to enjoy this beautiful location. Staying in the cottage was glamping at it’s best. Just rustic enough to feel close to nature, but complete with plumbing, electricity, and WiFi so all of our needs were met. The cabin was very comfortable for the 5 of us who stayed there and the kitchen well equipped for entertaining.

Couples Vacation
It was a beautiful, relaxing get away and we enjoyed our stay. I would have preferred a bit more privacy from the owner who spontaneously came to the door once, unannounced and made it clear she may stop by. If you are ok with being hosted and micromanaged, then you’ll be fine. I personally would have relaxed more knowing that the host wouldn’t be swinging by each day. Every other detail was great and we did enjoy the experience.

A Wonderful Break!
We traveled to this cottage as an extended family. There was plenty of comfortable beds to use, a well appointed kitchen, and lots of Indoor living space. Outside we were very close to Sand Pond, with a nice shallow swimming area to be enjoyed by all. We traveled with a small boat which was easily moored to the sturdy dock provided. We enjoyed a great two weeks together!

Wonderful and Relaxing Lake house!
We rented this house with friends and it was the perfect getaway. Our sons have birthdays 2 days a part and since kid birthday parties are impossible right now, we decided to get away upstate.
The kids had the best time! They swam in the very clean and quiet lake from the moment they woke up until the moment they fell asleep everyday.
The adults enjoyed fishing with the kids on the dock, naps in the hammock, floating on the lake and cooking in the fully equipped kitchen. It really was perfect and we hope to make this a yearly tradition.
The only oops we had is that we stripped all the beds including all the blankets we used and were told after, those aren't washed between guests. I think we created a little extra work but with Covid and being from the city, we assumed they should be cleaned.
Overall really great house and Klara was very kind and hospititable. We'll definitely be back!

So well equipped
Klara’s place was great for us - the lake is very clean, clear water and was great for swimming and we loved the easy to get in to kayaks. The kitchen was better equipped than mine at home!
Klara was a lovely hostess.

Lovely place
Our family ( adults and 5 children) had a lovely stay at Klara’s house. It was a pleasure to spend our days kayaking on the lake, swimming or just enjoying the view. The camp was perfect for our needs and I could cook every day. Klara has the best tips to enjoy the neighborhood too ( try the Black crow bakery!). Thank you Klara!

Beautiful and relaxing
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful spot. All was as described and we were very happy with our choice of long weekend getaway on Sand Pond. We spent lots of time reading on the dock, we swam every day and used both the kayak and canoe. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed. The location is absolutely beautiful! It was a very relaxing mini-vacation!

Great week on the lake!
Very relaxing, peaceful time on a crystal clear lake. Owner was next door always available for questions or requests, but never intrusive. My family had a wonderful time. We loved the dock and the porch overlooking the lake the best!!

A pleasant week at the lake
The accommodations were clean and comfortable; everything we expected in a camp. The waterfront access was superb with excellent sandy access and a study dock. It was quiet during the week with minimal boat traffic and the water was warm for swimming.

Perfect getaway
We have stayed here many times before. Each experience is unique - always relaxing and restorative. This year we introduced our grandsons ages 2 and 4 to "day camp". They loved it as much as we did! Thank you Klara!

A cozy retreat
We stayed at this quaint cottage while attending graduation events at Bates College. It was a reasonable ride to the college at a fraction of the cost of staying at a hotel, particularly during graduation weekend. In addition to the 3 bedrooms, we had the luxury of a full kitchen, living room and screened porch to enjoy the beautiful May spring weather. The cottage is well maintained and clean, and is a true Maine getaway. The pictures on the website show you exactly what you can expect to find at this cozy spot. One of our most enjoyable things to do was to sit on the porch and watch and listen to the water mammals, ducks and loons. You cannot find a more relaxing place to spend time in Maine!

Lakefront Stress-Eraser
We were very pleased with our summer "Lake House" for our week this summer.
We hope to return another week next year if good health continues.
Property and pictures were described correctly. Great GET AWAY!
Owner and family were very friendly and helpful.
The only sounds heard at night were the loons which lulled us to sleep.

Better than the pictures!
This was the most fantastic place for our family to visit. It was quiet - no phones, no TV and the only sound was either the loons or frogs at night. We took advantage of the kayaks and boats and explored Sand Pond and swam in the lake not 6 feet from the back door. We ventured into town to buy live lobsters ($8 each!) and have lunch and even visited a local u-pick strawberry field. We agreed that it had to be the most low key and enjoyable trip we have had evah! Klara's kindness was above and beyond and so is here camp!
