We had a wonderful stay at Whitehall Pele Tower.
We had a wonderful stay at Whitehall Pele Tower. It felt like a real treat as the building has a stately feeling and the kids loved exploring the grounds. It was spacious enough to relax on a wet day and felt like a good base to head into the Lakes. The beds were comfortable and pleased to report they now have a king sized bed in the bedroom (there may also be a king sized in the other bedroom but I didn't sleep in there and can't remember!) The kitchen is well equipped and there were even bowls for the dog. The house was always warm and everything was very straight, tidy and clean when we arrived. My only nit picky point was they'd missed cleaning the fridge and bread bin and some areas in the top floor bathroom. Overall, we had a fabulous stay and we'd definitely go again. The security deposit was returned in full the next day.

This is the perfect destination if you want to go that little bit extra for a special occasion mini-break rain or shine.
There is plenty of room to relax and enjoy the property for all that it has to offer in a surprisingly warm and cosy medieval tower.
It is well situated for the Lake District National Park and the Solway Coast with plenty of amenities in the town of Wigton just a few miles drive away.

We booked Whitehall for a long weekend in the autumn to celebrate a significant birthday with friends. It was so much fun to stay in a unique property with so much history - a large place that still felt homely and we really appreciated the personal touch of having contact with the owners and the housekeeper.

We had a cracking four days at Whitehall for a reunion. A great renovation of a interesting building. All required cooking and living facilities were available and the property was spick and span. A lovely, fascinating and peaceful location (hence slightly remote). The games room provided much entertainment with a table tennis competition on multiple nights :)Thoroughly recommended. For dog owners - the only comment to be aware of is that the lovely grounds are open on two sides so you cannot let your dog out to wander on their own.

Excellent property for larger families located close to Lake District and N Cumbria beaches.
Excellent property for larger families located close to Lake District and N Cumbria beaches. The house facilities were brilliant, kitchen well equipped, all the essentials and most of the luxuries too. WiFi Internet access across the house was good, speed ok. Decent 4g phone signal outside as the wall thickness did very well at blocking that Inside! We took our dog, who loved the extensive garden to explore. Would recommend to anyone.

What a house (or castle)! Full of charm and character.
What a house (or castle)! Full of charm and character. Perfect for two families - you can have a floor each and the communal spaces are huge. And the gardens are big, beautiful and private. Certainly met my three must-haves: clean, quite, comfortable.
If you're thinking of renting this house in the autumn or winter, just check with the owners about arrangements for the heating.

Our family of 6 adults, 2 children and a dog had a fantastic Christmas at Whitehall. The owners contacted us to arrange a meet up with the caretaker in good time and they were generally really helpful. The castle itself was delightful, the living area was exceptionally cosy with a lovely grand fireplace. The bedrooms were comfortable and the kitchen was equipped very well. The castle felt warm, clean and a lovely place to relax. The games room was fun and exploring the castle gardens and ruins was great for the children. Overall we had a wonderful stay!

We had an amazing weekend break.
We had an amazing weekend break. We were blown away by the size of the house and found the history of it very interesting.
The furniture is in keeping with the house and there is everything and more that you could need in the house.
The children and grown ups enjoyed playing hide and seek plus there is the added bonus if the games room which that too had endless supplies of toys and games.
We liked where the house was situated out of the way but close enough to be able to drive to Keswick and the surrounding area.
The bedding was all clean and smelt lovely and fresh. My only suggestion for the house would be to have king size beds as we found them too small. The beds were very comfy but to small for us. With the bedrooms being on the larger size it would not compromise on the space.
Both families absolutely loved it and we are already booked for next year.
