Wells-next-the-Sea is popular with tourists and locals alike and offers a mix of traditional seaside and artisan shops and cafés, amusements and a narrow gauge railway that runs virtually from Pirates Lookout and takes you past the pitch and putt golf course down to the pine woods and beach, voted one of the best in the country. The much photographed quay is also a staging post for boat trips including fishing expeditions, booking boat trips to see the seals and is famous for its ‘gillying’ catching small crabs by hand line from the quay wall. Wells also has its own 9-hole pitch just 300 yards away and the two Links cliff top gorgeous golf courses, the Sharingham Golf Club and the Royal Cromer Golf Club. Horse riding is also available at the North Norfolk Riding School just 5 miles from the cottage, as well as various schools and stables along the coast.
The harbour is also the home of Wells Sailing club, Water Ski Club and other water sports and visiting yachtsmen from far and near. Wells offers something for all the family, including the 19th century ‘Albatross’ Dutch sailing barge on the quay, now used as a restaurant and bar with live eclectic music on Fridays, Saturday and most Sunday lunch times. A large well-appointed children’s playground and adjoining skate park, the cinema and theatre on Staithe Street and the myriad of boutique, craft and traditional shops, as well as the ever popular with children amusement arcades for rainy days. Why not try the local horse and cart rides or alpaca trekking along the fields and marshes? An experience the whole family will enjoy.
For all the fun of the fair, head to Hunstanton but making sure you take the time to explore the pretty seaside villages along the way. Enjoy the Sea Life Centre, visit the small fun fair or just relax on its beach with its famous cliffs and rock pools. There are National Trust properties and stately homes to explore too, including Holkham Hall and The Sandringham Estate, both of which host events throughout the year. Bird watchers will also be spoiled for choice with Norfolk being described as the ‘birdwatching capital of the UK’ and there are marshes and nature reserves aplenty to explore, including Titchwell Marsh, which is just a short drive away. With ample cycling routes and walks, water sports, fishing and golf, as well as great places to eat and to just potter around and unwind in, you really will be spoilt for choice. Children will also love the playground nearby. And, after a fabulous day out, you can kick off your shoes at Pirates Lookout, enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sun go down while planning your next adventure. Shops 60 yards.

The upside down house was very clean & well stocked. Loved the large cooker. The freezer could be a bit bigger. Also the dining table it was a bit of a squeeze for 9. minor details not enough to spoil our time. Its was so nice to find flowers, milk & wine to welcome us.
Whole family can't wait to return for another visit.

We had a fantastic week at Pirate's Lookout in October. The property is superbly located for all local amenities and for the lovely beaches along the North Norfolk coast. The house is very well equipped and was spotlessly clean - it felt a very safe place to be in these strange times. We arrived after dark and found the property difficult to find so think better directions could be given - we made a quick call to the owner and he very kindly directed us. Enclosed outside space ideal for dogs. Definitely recommend and we will return to Pirate's Lookout

Really good base for our week away. Very clean and in a great position in town for easy access to pubs restaurants etc. Local host was excellent and communicative when required. Minor issues was that being tall the double bed felt small especially with a double duvet that didn't create a lot of margin for cover for both ! Dog had a great time on those lovely beaches.
Vfm was slightly marked down as only 4 of us stayed so not making use of spreading the cost among others...all we could find in these Covid times !
Happily recommend and would re-book

It is a lovely, well-equipped house. The location is unbeatable. Obviously the value-for-money improves with the size of the group.

Second time we have stayed here but we thought the cleaning wasn’t 100% and think the house could do with some tlc in places . Bit of a paint up , silicon in bathrooms maybe needs updating.
En-suite is VERY cold and shower not very warm . Hooks inside entry pointless as cupboard underneath so can’t hang coats to dry . No other space to hang coats .

Pirates look out is a gorgeous holiday let done to a high standard with fabulous views of Wells harbour. Close to all that's happening in Wells. Just a few little niggles let this place down slightly. Shower heads being blocked and damaged being the main one, but this didn't spoil our time spent here.

This is in a great location if you have children - however as an upside down house you would need to all have kids of same age otherwise no lie in for anyone due to noise from lounge above bedrooms (wooden floor and poor sound insulation. Right near the quay so handy for everything, but wouldn’t book if you don’t have children as noise from playground next to house - very popular.

we had a wonderful time.
we had a wonderful time. The house is amazing....The only fault for us as getting elderly is that the mattresses are so hard so had to buy temper mattress toppers....amazing view from the windows and would love to stay again

Centrally located beautifully presented
This upside down house makes the most of the stunning coastal view. Comfortable and well equipped we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Wells and would not hesitate to recommend The Pirates Lookout.
