Very musty and smelly. Everything in this place smells. All of our clothes and everything we brought with us absorbed the musty smell. Cooked steak dinner there and the musty aftertaste was terrible. Went out to dinner at a nice restaurant and felt so bad dining at the restaurant as I could smell the mustiness on our clothes and on our bodies, if we could smell this then I know the other patrons at the restaurant could smell it too. Felt so dirty and so embarrassed. Won’t ever return there, we were so excited about this vacation get away only to be completely disappointed.

We loved our time here! It was the perfect amount of cozy and romantic. The house was clean, and the hot tub and fireplace were a wonderful accessory to make our stay so great.

Beautiful wood home in the woods with a beautiful view of the ocean. A bit old but cozy. Great location.

This was my 4th stay at this property and, as usual, it was the exact remedy to my stress. First of all, the quiet of the area is arresting. The only sounds were the birds chirping and the sea lions barking against the background of waves crashing. So incredibly peaceful. Everything worked as expected. Check in was simple. Property was well maintained, although there are some spongy planks on the deck near the hot tub. The hot tub is a high point of this property. Kicking back at night and listening to the ocean and the aforementioned sea lions is a sensory experience not to be missed.

My partner and I had the most relaxing amazing getaway. The house was exactly as described. So beautiful and peaceful, total privacy. We will be making this a regular stay!

Wonderful and cozy place, perfect for a quiet and intimate getaway. Would definitely recommend to any couple looking for a quiet getaway with a vintage feel.
The Thai spot down the road is great and it’s a short and fun drive to Gualala or Point Arena. 10/10!

Things didn't start well when I showed up to the Vacasa office, opened the lock box and there was no key or welcome packet for my stay. It was dark, cold, no bathroom, and I didn't have cell signal so it added a lot of unnecessary stress. Luckily once I got hold of the staff, they were able to provide instructions to get in.
The property was beautiful and the location was perfect. It was in the forest but you had a glimpse of the ocean. Waking up in the morning, the huge glass windows provided a stunning view of the surrounding trees.
There were other minor inconveniences. The front left burner of the stove did not work. The filter for fan above the stove was filled with so much oil that it would drip below when you cooked. The bbq grill ignition didn't work. The shower door would not stay closed.
Despite all that, I would go back. It was a soul-nourishing getaway that offered the perfect mix of seclusion and proximity to supplies/civilization.

Great secluded getaway spot - tidy and quiet just like we like it. Perfect for 2 people. Bring extra blankets for cozy-time. Space out while gazing through those gorgeous windows.

Having stayed in lovely place prior with Vacasa, this was an extreme disappointment. I appreciate Vacasa's quick response and professionalism. Yet, they do not own or truly manage these homes. That being said, every experience is varied unfortunately.
There was not a dishwasher On site so guests had to wash by hand. Some may clean better than others. The cleaning ladies should double check that everything is thoroughly clean before any guest checks in.
Here is what what I sent to Vacasa when they ask one to rate the check in
Experience & cleanliness of the house:It is more a 3 &1/2 when reviewed in the day light
Just greasy plates & glasses, cobwebs on light fixtures & stairwell, black mold (?) in between the tiles in the shower, shower door does not close properly & so floor is wet & only a tiny bath mat to use.
Only 1 tissue was in the tissue box & no more to be found. Floor boards & trim are dusty
Outdoor entry light bulb is out, inside the stove is grubby
Cute place besides all of this
It just needs allot of TLC to make it better.

Very quiet cabin among the redwood trees. Nice view to the ocean from the house and deck.

Great location - a quiet getaway with an ocean view through the redwoods! The kitchen was very well-stocked and the BBQ worked great. Loved the hot tub. Based on other reviews & photos, we were expecting a bit of a "rustic" experience, and that was totally fine with us! We came prepared on a cooler rainy weekend with extra warm blankets (an electric blanket in fact!). The gas fireplace heats up the entire house pretty well. My only reason for a 4-star rating is due to the bathroom faucet & shower door that both should really be replaced.

The Redwood house is incredible. The views to the ocean from the hot tub and the deck are mesmerizing. We stayed for 3 days and can’t wait to come back. 10/10z

Pro's,
Clean, quiet, private. Beautiful view.
Cons,
Couches , beds, coffee maker, shower kinda suck. No microwave cookware. Fireplace didn't work.
Bed is super hard, couches are horrible.
Worst 5 night's sleep ever!.
But nice view..

You are completely surrounded by beautiful redwoods. In the very center of your line of vision are more redwoods and then the ocean and sky. Can’t say enough about the floor to ceiling windows. The deck. Sitting in the hot tub after a long hike. The long red reading spot next to the window. The other stuff was fine - kitchen, bathroom, bedroom/loft. But the main attraction here is the view. Enjoy!
4.5
No working heaters, no working T.V., smallest shower ever 2'x2', uncomfortable small and sagging bed, even lights were not all working. What a waste of time and money. Very BAD!!

Overall, we were disappointed.
The location couldn't be better--secluded, quiet, dark at night, ocean view, and surrounded by redwoods. Having a washer and dryer was helpful. But otherwise, we feel we way overpaid for such a rundown property.
First and foremost, the house was SO COLD. There is only one heat register that works; the rest have a note on them saying they're "not connected." We ran that heat register, the gas fireplace, and the lone space heater for a full 24 hours before the house came to a reasonable temperature that did not require me to wear my down jacket inside.
Second, it wasn't all that clean or in good shape. There were cobwebs in the bathroom and on stairs and ceilings, the shower drain was slow, leaving me standing in several inches of slimy water by the end of my short shower, and the furniture is very worn and dingy. The queen bed squeaks so loud; I had to stay in one position all night to avoid waking my baby in the next room (and the pocket door to that room sticks and is also very loud, and won't shut all the way). The front left burner on the stove doesn't work at all. The house is dimly lit inside. I see these same problems described in reviews from years past, so clearly they've known about issues for a long time and haven't bothered fixing them.
Check-in wasn't until 4:00, and check-out is at 10:00, making our three-day stay feel like a quick two-day stay. And the listing states it has two bedrooms, but this isn't quite true. There is one room with a door, but the second "bedroom" is just the rest of the loft, which you can't close off from the rest of the house.
It could be great with a few repairs and updates, but as-is, it's not worth nearly the price we paid.

This was my 2nd visit to Redwood House and it was simply amazing. The quiet of the property and the soothing hot tub melted my stress away within an hour of my arrival. Along with the relaxation came a wave of inspiration and I filled many pages of my journal and recorded a dozen voice memos on my phone for future writing. If you’re looking for a place to leave your worries behind and get in touch with your calm and creative self then Redwood House should be at the top of your list of places to visit in Northern California.

This was our second time staying at the Redwood House. There is just no way to accurately describe the peace and beauty that is this little cabin in the woods. We will return again!
Of Note: There is no central heat and only one of the wall units work. There is a gas fireplace that does help and one space heater for the bedroom. It was 37 degrees our first night and it was chilly in the house! If you are a light sleeper, bring a sleeping mask - there are no window coverings on any of the windows!

Peace and quiet
Had an amazing stay at Redwood House. The seclusion and natural beauty of the property were perfect for a weekend getaway. The hot tub was just what i needed to melt away the stress of these crazy times. Will definitely return to this property.

The other reviews speak to similar points. You are paying for the location and view, both of which were amazing. Great cleaning service. But, there aspects of the home that were dated and in need of repair (shower door didn't close). Seems like other travelers have had the same experience...the owner fixes things as needed but it is still quite dated. In looking at other properties, it seems you can find a similar property with more updated/modern amenities for less. Unsure if we would return to this home specifically despite the awesome location.

We’re on our way home from a 3 day stay. We loved the beauty of our surroundings, the quiet, and the privacy. We enjoyed the area very much and hope to return. But next time we may stay at a hotel. We didn’t love that the home didn’t even smell clean. Check in is not until 4:00 due to “extra” cleaning and yet I didn’t even smell disinfectant or any type of cleaning supplies. We wore our slide on shoes in the shower because it was dirty and the shower didn’t drain well and the door wouldn’t stay shut. I had to wipe down the kitchen counter because it was a bit dirty. There is a food cabinet in the kitchen that is very dirty. Quite disgusting. All of it needs to be thrown out. Cobwebs along the staircase. One of the bedside lamps didn’t work. Something is wrong with the front left stove burner. The outside grill cover was ripped up. I have read in other reviews from 2019 and on about the bedside lap and the shower drain, and the stove burner. These issues should have been taken care of a long time ago. For what we paid I expected more. VACASA has certain expectations of their guests. We complied to those expectations and were happy to do so. But their house staff doesn’t seem to meet their expectations. Does anyone in charge ever go inside the home? I want to use VACASA again but will I run into the same thing?

Redwood House is an architectual gem set in the forest, ten giant windows framing soaring redwoods, views from every room, quiet and meditative, allowing you to be one with nature. However, it can also be cold (only one of the five wall heaters work), management did provide a portable heater upon request; fireplace remote does not work, manual operation is limited; handrail for steep stairs to loft is only partial; kitchen light is very dim, there is one single scarred skillet; both bed end tables are rickety TV trays; place is damp & musty & needs good airing; directions are confusing & often self-canceling; difficult to find office (not at address given). However, office staff was very nice & accommodating. Given some TLC, Redwood House would be well worth its beauty, a return trip & the cost. These comments are meant to be helpful.

This cabin is situated directly "above" the Anchor Bay campground, therefore there's an amazing view of the water directly from the deck. The windows throughout the home make you feel like you're in a treehouse and the surrounding forest did not disappoint. Though there are neighbors close by, we rarely saw/heard another person while at the house. It was perfect for our family to use as a "home base" for exploring the northern coast, as it's situated between Bodega Bay and Point Arena and it's 3-4 hours to Avenue of the Giants. The house is rustic but has all of the essentials; be prepared as there is no dishwasher and the coffee pot is relatively small. The fireplace and a heater in the kitchen are the only sources of heat. There was a small space heater in the bedroom which was useful, as it was cooler than we anticipated for June and there were few blankets in the home (I'm assuming due to COVID). While the wi-fi was not always perfect, the house was the only consistent place we had service for our devices and we felt it was really good considering the remote location. Very easy check-in and check-out. Perfect vacation!
