About this cottage rental
In June, July and August this cottage rents from Sat. to. Sat., bed linens and towels will not be provided.

A Northern Escape is a quiet retreat in the village of Empire, surrounded by the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Park. Enjoy this well equipped home (full kitchen, seating for 6 people) and the two decks for some quality time. You will find two beaches, each with boat launch- one on Lake Michigan and one on South Bar Lake which is ideal for small children.
The public beach area offers a playground with climbing structure, basketball court, rest rooms as well as a picnic area, fire pits and swimming dock and offers fun for everyone! There also is a park with baseball diamond and public tennis courts nearby.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Park offers hiking and wildlife viewing and nearby Pierce Stocking Drive allows for breathtaking views of Lake Michigan, the Manitou Islands and the surrounding area. Enjoy the bicycle trail from Empire to Good Harbor Beach (E-Bike are available for rent nearby). The house is in walking distance to Empire's restaurants, unique shops and ice cream parlors. A new library and a gas station are conveniently located in the village.
Enjoy spring and the blooming orchards, summer and all it has to offer and the spectacular fall colors.

Our family had a great week in Empire. We love this location as a jumping off point for all things in Leelanau County. The cottage had enough space for the 5 of us to spread out and relax after busy days of hiking, kayaking, and sightseeing. The house looked and smelled clean upon arrival. We had a few ants in the kitchen around the window but there was some bug spray under the sink that took care of them. All the appliances were updated and worked well. The refrigerator made great ice! The owner’s communication was clear and timely. We loved using gas grill and the location was an easy 15 minute walk to Empire Beach, always made shorter by stopping for ice cream on the way! We would love to stay here again.

We always have a great time here in Empire! It is especially nice when we have a wonderful host with a beautiful house! The house is in the perfect spot to hike the bluffs, walk to the beach, cycle to the trail, or stroll to the ice cream shop! We plan to come back again!

This is such a lovely, comfortable, clean and well-equipped house. We love the quiet location and private backyard. And it's a short walk to the restaurants/shops on Front Street. The beach and Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail also are close by. All in all, a perfect spot for a family vacation in the Sleeping Bear Dunes area.

Six long term friends stayed at this very clean, comfortable and convenient home. The owners were very responsive and fixed a light immediately…I would stay again knowing that I had to either pay for towel & bed linen usage or bring my own and that I needed to bring my own basic hand soap for the bathrooms.

The house is immaculate, spacious and very comfortable. The kitchen is well-equipped, though we did not do much cooking. It is an easy walk or bike ride to shops and the beach. All in all, a perfect place for our family’s visit to Empire.

The house was very comfortable and clean. The host was very kind and helpful. Highly recommend! Close to lots of hiking and biking. The sunsets over Lake Michigan were an easy walk or bike ride. Empire is a cute village too! We recommend Tiffany's homemade waffle cones.

Three bedrooms and two bathrooms gave my family plenty of space to spread out. There were lots of thoughtful touches like night lights around the home. We took advantage of the parking pass for Empire Beach, which made the day so much more relaxing. Plus there are a ton of toys and items to choose from that you can take down to the beach with you. There are so many locations nearby to watch beautiful Lake Michigan sunsets, too! It was great to have the washer and dryer so we could pack light. We would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful, clean, spacious home!
This house seemed much more spacious inside than it appeared in the photos or from the road when we arrived. It was very clean which is one of our top priorities when we travel. With a family of five, we had plenty of room to spread out. There is lots of storage space in the bedroom closets which was a huge help to us. The location is perfect. Empire is a beautiful town, and the beach and playground nearby were great for kids. We would love to rent this house again in the future! I can't think of anything negative other than having towels and linens provided with COVID restrictions being eased would definitely make packing easier next time!

The property is located in a quiet place but close to restaurant, nationalpark and beach.
The best was the specious garage.
Yard - front and back - offers privacy and space for activity. Deer might swing by for a short visit.
The house itself is well equipped (specially the kitchen) has lots of space and two very clean and up to date bathrooms.
Overall an excellent place for family vacation
The host is very helpful, friendly, fast in answering questions....

Empire House, Great Stay!
The house and yard were nicer than I expected. The large kitchen/dining room/living room area was great for family congregating. We used the grill and the picnic tables out back. Our 4 year old and watching adults used the yard quite a bit. We liked being able to put our car in the garage. We didn't use the beach toys in the garage (we brought our own), but there was a nice collection. It was convenient to have two bathrooms for showering - one up, and one down. Having a washer and dryer was wonderful for this beach/hiking vacation. Martina was wonderfully responsive and helpful. Great stay!
