We enjoyed the spacious barn and the beautiful views.

Our recent stay at this VRBO barn house was nothing short of magical. Nestled amidst serene surroundings, this property provided the perfect retreat for our large group of 20 people.
The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the breathtaking view that greeted us every morning. Surrounded by farms, the barn house offered panoramic vistas of the surrounding countryside, creating a sense of tranquility and serenity that is hard to find elsewhere.
The spacious layout of the house was another standout feature. With ample room for all our guests to spread out and unwind, it felt like our own private oasis. Whether we were gathered in the cozy living area, admiring the view from the expansive windows, or enjoying meals together in the dining space, every moment was infused with a sense of warmth and comfort.
The charm of the barn house extended beyond its interior, with the outdoor area offering plenty of opportunities for relaxation and recreation. From playing in the massive driveway to evenings spent gathered around the fire pit under the starry sky, there was no shortage of ways to enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings.
I must also commend the host for their hospitality and attention to detail. From the moment we arrived, they went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was nothing short of perfect. The owner even brought treats for our our group which was so nice. Overall we highly recommend this place and will be visiting again!

This was a perfect landing spot for my four siblings and our spouses. Tons of space to spread out, a great fireplace, and the best kitchen we’ve seen for a large group. We hope to visit again.

We had a great time at the Barn House, we especially enjoyed the big screened-in porch. The views from every window in the house were spectacular, even though we were a little early to see the peak fall colors.
We played board games on the huge dinning room table and started a puzzle on the small table next to it.
I would highly recommend the Barn House for your next Iowa getaway.
The warm cinnamon rolls delivered Sunday morning were a tasty surprise, Thanks.

Our group came here to relax for a few days at the end of our vacation and it was just what we needed. We were lucky enough to have nice weather so we were able to enjoy the large yard playing bags and horseshoes and it had enough room for the kids to run wild and burn off all their energy.
The views across the field in the morning when the sun is coming up is magical. It's the perfect time to read a good book on the porch with a nice cup of coffee.
The property was well stocked with anything you could need but close enough to town if you forgot something while still having that out in the middle of nowhere vibe. Close to field of dreams for a little sightseeing.
The host even brough freahly baked cinnamon rolls before we checked out which was a nice touch.
Highly recommended booking this rental. You will not be disappointed.

We enjoyed our stay at the Barn House! It was great to have such a large place to accommodate our large extended family. We had 21 family members come together for a getaway, and there was room for everyone! Kitchen was well supplied with items that we needed and although the commercial stove/oven is not completely functioning currently, we were still able to make the meals we had planned because of an additional stove/oven that was available for use. We appreciated the hosts checking in on us to make sure we had all of our needs met, and we especially appreciated the fresh cinnamon rolls delivered check-out morning!

This Barn House was a great place to give my family a taste of Iowa! There were plenty of places to sleep, sit and eat, and spread out throughout the property. With 25 people, we didn’t feel cramped at all. There were plenty of dishes, but if you have young children and don’t want to worry about breaking anything, I’d recommend bringing paper plates and cups as there was no plastic ware.
The kids really loved the garage area with the ping pong table and skee-ball and there was plenty of space to store our bicycles in the garage, too. I was a little worried it might get hot and stuffy with all the windows and so many people, but the A/C worked well and we were very comfortable. The host was really nice and personable and made our stay very enjoyable. Thanks Gerarda!

This is our second time staying at the Barnhouse with friends and family. Both times we had wonderful experiences; it is a true escape property equipped with great amenities to entertain children and adults. We loved cooking in using the kitchen and the kids enjoyed the game room and fireplace. I highly recommend!

The Barn house worked out very well for our family of 11. Everything was just as the host advertised and it was great family time

There were only 12 of us in a barn/house that sleeps 20 plus. We had plenty of space and bathrooms. Additionally, there were two separate family rooms, each with a TV, so those who needed to watch football - vocally - could without disturbing those who did not want to watch football! The views around the barn/house were gorgeous. It had everything we needed including a table that all 12 of us could sit around.

Beautiful weather. Gorgeous environment inside and out! A wonderful weekend to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of our parents! Thank you for the use of the beautiful home and amazing hospitality! And Peoper Sprout in DBQ is an amazing meal out as well!!

We were a total of 21 family members ranging in age from less than 1 to 80 years young. Absolutely in awe from the moment we drove up to the property...from the beautiful Barn House out in the beautiful rolling hills, to the amazing welcome from Tony and Gerarda. Gerarda is the absolute sweetest and made us feel like family rather than renters. Where to begin....we took full advantage of the huge outdoor space, setting up a soccer area, putting some wiffle golf balls, playing a family game of wiffle softball, setting up the provided volleyball net, and spending one evening around a campfire. During the brief rain we encountered, we took full advantage of the large indoor space to play various card and board games we had brought. We are so gracious to Gerarda and Tony for providing this beautiful place for people to unwind and enjoy the things that truly matter in life.

Pictures don’t do the property justice. The house had everything needed for our stay. We had 12 people in our group and had plenty of space. Enjoyed the screened in porch at night and the large lawn during the day. Would stay here again.

Wow! You recognize your good fortune upon arrival and repeatedly at every vantage point in the home - and out on the decks, patio and huge yard. A myriad of places throughout the three floors to gather or retreat. The Views are spectacular. The Privacy - priceless. The kitchen with commercial fridge & stove, pantry, massive island/breakfast bar and stocked cabinets makes preparing big meals easy and FUN. Outdoor grill too. Every bathroom is clean and equipped with towels etc. If you draw the 3rd floor master - take advantage of the jacuzzi tub. Horseshoes, ping pong, skee ball, board games etc. Fireplaces and a fire pit. Golf, skiing and trails close by. Field of Dreams is 10 minutes away - so don’t forget to bring a bat, ball and glove. Is this Heaven? No, it is the Barn House.
Gerarda, Tony and family make you feel at home and part of the family. Thanks!!
Did I mention the Horseshoes?

I stayed at the barn with a group of 13 people. The barn to start is absolutely gorgeous, both inside and out. The views are terrific. There is plenty of space inside with multiple bedrooms spread out and multiple living areas. We never felt crowded. The entire place has beautiful decor and architectural styling. I would highly recommend for any larger gatherings that need space and are looking for a unique experience!

The Barn House totally met our expectations and needs for our family of 16, 4 adult couples and 8 grandchildren 1-13. We utilized the whole facility indoors and out. Each family had their own space and it was so large we had so much space. The kitchen was just awesome. We love to cook and grill. The refrigerator gave us so much room for all our food and drink. There was a freezer handy as well. We were able to play games outside in the yard, roast marshmallows and set up our own outdoor theatre. Gerarda was always available to answer our questions and gave us a warm welcome. We were close to Guttenberg to boat, take the kids to Field of Dreams and stopped at the new brewery in Dyersville “Textile”. (Awesome) Lastly, there is a great little grocery store in Epworth called Silker’s with a great meat market. Well stocked and very friendly. (Locally owned) Our family said this was our best experience yet and looking forward to coming back!

This former barn has been transformed into a wonderful rental property which we thoroughly enjoyed. The bedrooms were very comfy, and the main floor which includes an expensive kitchen has views in both directions they are simply stunning. We highly recommend this rental property. The owners go out of their way to accommodate guests every need. We can’t wait to book our next visit to this magical place, a stones throw away from the Field of Dreams:

We had a very nice stay at the Barn House. Gerarda was a great host and the house was just as described - an authentic rural Iowa experience with everything we needed. The beds were quite comfortable and we all slept well! Recommend a visit to the Fields of Dreams if you are there in season.

Our four families were able to gather together comfortably at the barn house. Lots of space, big beautiful kitchen, plenty of sleeping options. Gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. Overall good energy in the home. Would love to visit again in the spring or fall when the countryside is even prettier.

The barn house was absolutely amazing, such a unique place to stay. Unfortunately not being able to host a large Thanksgiving this year we were looking for a getaway to accommodate our limited family. The barn house gave us that and much more the openness of the main floor with the kitchen was so perfect, and the sunrises as well as the sunsetswere beautiful !!! Cannot wait to return ....

We recently stayed at the Barn House for a girls weekend. 7 women all together. There was plenty of space to relax and visit. We spent a lot of time in the kitchen preparing meals together and out on the extensive deck chatting and catching up. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone.

We cannot say enough about "The Barn". Everyone in our party was elated about the facilities and the hospitality that was offered by Gerarda & Tony. There is everything in the kitchen that you could ever want. We had thirteen in our group and never ran out of space or felt like someone was in our space (it even rained two of the four days that we were there). The outside is just as awesome as the inside. The lower floor with the bar area, and the game area and then walk outside to the covered patio was great. The well kept lawn made you relax just to sit and enjoy the scenery. It was so nice to have all the bathrooms. The saying of "Earth Meets Heaven" fits this to a tee. We would definitely recommend this to others and will rent it again.

Our family enjoyed our stay at the Barn very much. The kitchen with its commercial stove and fridge made our meals easy to fix and it is stocked with every utensil you may need for cooking, baking, etc. We loved the views and enjoyed watching deer graze near by with two pair binoculars provided. The kitchen and dining and living room are beautiful with space to spare for dining and gathering for games and fun. It also had a huge family room with big screen tv and sectional down stairs We had plenty of room. We enjoyed the skeeball, bean bag toss and karaoke. Tony and Gerarda were most helpful and Gerarda made special cookies to surprise us and they were delicious and appreciated by all the grandkids. You would enjoy your stay at the barn. The only thing that I think would add to the fun their would be a ping pong table or pool table for even more family fun.
Sincerely, The Hilmer's

The Barn House is a pretty neat property. It has several beds/baths to accomodate a large group. We had some kids in our group and they had plenty of room to run outside. The owners even provided baby gates for the stairs! The outdoor space is great, with plenty of tables and chairs, a grill, games/toys, etc. The kids enjoyed feeding carrots to the horses outside and playing on the swingset.
I would liken this property to a bed and breakfast more than a hotel or resort. The owner is at the house often, to the point that you feel you are staying WITH her. It is not uncommon for the owner to walk right in the house unexpectedly while you are sitting there eating breakfast. There is no privacy. The one other problem we had was one of the downstairs bathrooms was completely missed by the cleaners... hair all over the tub surround and a dirty toilet. I am guessing this was just an error to miss this room, as the rest of the place was very clean. The kitchen has every gadget and cooking utensil known to man so you really do not need to bring anything for cooking except food. The beds are very comfortable and there is plenty of room over three floors to spread out. Overall it was a neat place to stay for our annual family gathering.

The Barn House is truly as beautiful and comfortable as it looks on this website and the owners are very helpful and accommodating. We were there for a weekend as part of a group of 12 friends, and we rode our bikes both Saturday and Sunday on the Dubuque Heritage Nature Trail, which is especially scenic between Epworth and Durango. The Epworth trailhead for this biking/walking trail is just two or three miles down Gun Club Road from the Barn House. The Park Farm Winery is also just two or three miles in the opposite direction, a wonderful place for an aperitif, with views over the rolling countryside that are beautiful--but no more beautiful than the views from the Barn House itself!

We could not have found a better place to host family while in Iowa for our son's wedding. There was so much room to spread out, everyone was comfortable. The pictures are great but there is so much that cannot be captured with photography - it is a truly beautiful home. Tony & Gerarda were amazing hosts, always available if we had a question or needed something. It was easy to find and within a decent distance for all our comings and goings. After the long days associated with a wedding, it truly felt like we were going home for the night and were able to completly relax. It is on our list of places we would like to return to someday!

We enjoyed the New Year's weekend at the Barn House. It was an inviting "home" where we had the opportunity to spend time with our 4 kids, their spouses and our 10 grandchildren (ages 5-16). All under one roof but so spacious that we were never cramped and with the two huge tables in the main area, we spent one night playing cards and game boards all together in one area. Other times the 7 granddaughters who slept in the loft area played up there and the 3 grandsons played play station in the downstairs while the adults could enjoy the main floor - a few adult beverages around the fireplace playing Loaded Questions and being quite noisy. We are a family that loves to have fun so not so much the "Hallmark" family - but it really was as close to a Hallmark weekend that one can have. Many memories made last weekend.
The host and hostess were most gracious and boy can they make a fabulous cake they surprised us with. They were so accomodating.
Highly recommend it for any family get together or reunion.

On August 15th, 10 of the "girls of '62" arrived at the barn house. What a wonderful place to gather. There is so much room..(6 bedrooms and 4 1/2 baths) The kitchen area with 2 stoves, a commercial type refrigerator and freezer make it so easy to put together meals if you so wish.
The screened -in porch (with its great view) was our favorite gathering place..but there were many places for us to sit and chat. And the elevator was such a plus...we aren't young anymore, you know.
The beautiful setting is almost spiritual...and the beauty of the structure itself just adds to the whole experience.
And then there is Gerarda...what a wonderful hostess. She spent one evening just chatting with us..we so enjoyed her and so appreciated her warm and welcoming personality. She even sent over a warm and wonderful outmeal cake and ice cream our last night there. Thanks again, Gerarda..you may our stay so special. She will help you find near by attractions that you can enjoy, as well.
I would recommend the barn house to one and all. You will love it. We all did. It was exactly as described...but more.
Sherlock, the dog, was our official greeter. What fun !

We stayed at the Barn to celebrate my mom & dad's 50th anniversary. It was the PERFECT place to stay. There were 18 of us - ages 6 - 71 and all of us loved it. We had plenty of place to hang out, talk, play, etc. The owner, Gerarda, was a great host who bent over backwards to make our stay comfortable and memorable. We would highly recommend this place. In fact, my family spent some time talking about when we could return.
