Perfect place to vacation! Went as two couples so the 2 bathrooms and separation of the upstairs bedroom was perfect. Such a cozy and cute spot, only 20 minutes from Sunday River!

Mullen Chalet had everything we needed from a cozy living room to great kitchen to comfy bedrooms. Perfect for a weekend getaway.

This place is a mess. There was raw wastewater pooling on the floor in the basement in front of the washer/dryer and under the pool table. The toilet on the main floor had urine on it from previous guests, mold growing in the grout in the shower, the dishes and silverware had food remnants remaining, counter tops were sticky, upstairs bathroom room shower head was broken and fell off when we turned the water on. Don't book through VRBO because you get ZERO customer service that way. Vacasa sent someone to the house who wanted to make repairs while we were using the home which simply isn't realistic or fair to paying customers. All of these items should have been addressed BEFORE renting the property. How can you not notice these things when you are "cleaning and preparing" for your next guests.

We arrived to a puddle of wastewater on the floor in the basement in front of the laundry and pool table. You had to wade through this puddle to turn on the water to the house, to use the laundry, or access the "bedroom" in the unfinished basement. The toilet in the main floor bathroom had urine on it, and the shower had mold in the grout. The kitchen was not cleaned well, the dishes, silverware, and pots had old food on them. The dishwasher doesn't clean dishes. It seems to run, but the dishes remained dirty after 3 cycles. The second floor bathroom shower head fell off when we turned it on because its broken and was left like that. Aside from that, it was lovely (note the sarcasm). The manager offered no compensation for the deficiencies, but did offer to come and repair while we were staying in the home. Sure, maybe if we were staying for free we would be willing to deal with repair people, house cleaners, appliance techs, and mold remediation companies, but we paid to have the home to ourselves. Having repair people there while we are trying to enjoy a vacation isn't appropriate. All these defects should have been repaired BEFORE we arrived. I do not recommend it.

Perfect base for skiing
We had a very nice stay at Mullen Chalet. It was a rainy weekend, but with Apple TV, ping pong, and billiards there was plenty to keep kids entertained. The house is really nice and super close to Mt. Abram.

Great property, terrible management
We stayed for 8 days at the Mullen Chalet. It is clean, spacious and at a close distance to both sides of Mt. Abram, allowing us to walk to either lift.
The management is terrible. There were no sponges, one half roll of paper towels (the store is 20 minutes away). We wanted to add a night at the beginning of our stay, however the rate we were quoted to add that night was outrageous (much higher than we paid per night for the coming week) which was ridiculous bc no one would rent it for one night (we had it booked for the next 8 days already) - so instead it sat empty - no income for the owner, no additional night for us. We also had a terrible experience when we called to ask about plowing during the storm, so we could move our cars to make it easier for the plow. The management said "we don't plow" and when I said it looked like the driveway had been plowed already and we just wanted to move our cars to make it easy for the plow, they basically told me to get a shovel and do it myself. The management was wrong (the owners have a large corporate company managing, they should go with a local one) - there was plowing, as we expected, but it was such a nasty negative experience with them on the phone and they didn't know what they were talking about. The dishwasher broke, someone was sent, it was never fixed and no one followed up.
Location great, chalet is nice (heating system is loud for anyone staying in basement).
the management should be changed to a local management company that can be helpful and responsive to renters. We would never stay there with the same management company. Go local!

Great Escape
Looking for a place the captures the true north experience? The Mullen Chalet Captured it, and provided my family with a great weekend away. Clean, neat and well maintained…spotless! Loved using the wood fire stove, although it was more for our enjoyment as the heating system kept the house nice and warm… Can’t wait to visit again, hopefully for the last spring hiking season… oh and being so close to Sunday River was just an added plus….

Great location right at the foot of Mt. Abrams; near hiking and downtown Bethel. Also, plenty of space for 4 adults! Would recommend!

Cute chalet in the woods.
We loved the close proximity to our favorite outdoor activities: downhill mountain biking at Mt.Abram (2 min bike ride to the lifts); 1-2 miles from public boat launch that connects to 3 beautiful ponds for paddle boarding or kayaking; and not to mention the numerous hiking trails close by. Overall, the chalet is in a great location. One thing to note during the off-season some of the local eateries are not open everyday of the week, but the good news was the chalet's kitchen and grill helped us cook at home. The chalet does not have air conditioning, so if you are visiting during the summer when it is in the 80's-90's the house got very hot inside. We did use the basement bedroom (very cool) with two twin beds on the nights when sleeping on the main floor was unbearable. Overall, glad we were able to visit western Maine it was nice to disconnect.

Will be great once they fix these issues
The house is super cute with a cozy living room, however in the main upstairs loft bedroom, there was only one screen for 5 windows. I called Vacasa to see if they had any more screens somewhere in the house because the room was getting really muggy and had no circulation. After 3 days and having to call them 3 times, finally someone responded saying that no, there were none, and acted as if I was being totally unreasonable that I found this a problem. They said 'technically there's nothing wrong with the house'. For our 7 night stay, there was only one roll of paper towels, and detergent for about 3 loads of laundry. Also, only 3 fans for the bedrooms, and one was broken. This will be a really nice place to stay once they take care of these issues.

We were able to ski four different mountains from this great location. The cabin was REALLY clean. I have stayed other places and the cleanliness of this spot surprised me. The towels and sheets seemed brand new!

Nice but more noise
Mostly lovely, but there is a bar with live music on the deck that sends distant echoes through the woods.

A lovely and safe autumn getaway
We had the great pleasure of staying at the Mullen Chalet for 2 nights.
The house was comfortable, charming, tucked away yet accessible. The vibe is mountainy, airy and bright. The common space accommodated the six - all adults. The rooms were simply dressed and lovely. I was a fan of the upstairs bedroom! The fire pit was perfect, and we were beyond grateful for the firewood. We were give plenty of towels, wash cloths, pillows and paper products. The only thing we missed, and found we needed, was a dishwasher.
I look forward to sharing the love of Mullen Chalet and, hopefully, staying once again in the future...for more than two nights! Thank you to the Mullen family for a lovely and safe autumn getaway!

Off the Beaten Path
My family (3 adults & 3 kids) thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Mullen Chalet. We ended up skiing 3 of the 4 days we stayed there. It was quiet, cozy and perfect for our family.

Charming house
We had a very nice time staying at the Mullen Chalet. We stayed in the two bedrooms on the main floor and the bedroom on the second floor (didn’t use basement bedroom). We were six grown adult couples with the males being over 6 feet. The house was well equipped, the only thing we wished they had left was cooking oil, so make sure to bring that. We felt the space was good and there was enough seating for us. The beds all felt pretty small and uncomfortable, however, the second night- after a day of skiing at Sunday River, we slept well. The location was right near a small ski mountain that my brother and his wife skied at- they said it was a fun little mountain with a bar and entertainment. We were about 20 minutes from Sunday River. Thanks for a great weekend!

Bare bones
My family and I booked this home for a ski getaway before Christmas. We had recently stayed in another home nearby that was fantastic and were excited to get back to the area. This home, however, was not at the same level. Many aspects of this home felt cheap. For examples, the couches were overstuffed yet still lumpy, the silverware was all thin tin that bent easily, the pillows all felt like plastic, there were no window dressings on the windows that faced the main road, the ping pong table net was held up with a pencil (and that didn't last long as my kids insisted on playing), I couldn't stopper any of the bathroom sinks to shave... Any one of these issues I could write off, but the combination made for a less than comfortable stay. The location of this home is fantastic and we had a great time, but it wasn't because this house was a great home away from home.

Perfect Chalet for Foliage Trip
The Mullen chalet was perfect for our girls foliage trip. The location was beautiful and in a wonderful neighborhood at base of Mt Abram, perfect for walking and enjoying nature. The chalet was very well stocked, especially the kitchen for cooking. The bedrooms were clean and they provided lots of towels for our large group. Did I mention dog friendly!

Awesome stay!
House is clean and well stocked with everything we need including many clean towels! We enjoyed the pool table and everything the house has to offer. It was an awesome stay for us as it is close to Sunday River and Mt Abram!

A great getaway for families
My family shared the home with another family for a mid-week ski trip and we had a great time. The Mullen Chalet has a really cozy feel, but not at all cramped. With a basement and a loft bedroom, our party of two teenagers, two younger kids, and four adults had plenty of space to spread out or come together as we wished. The kitchen is decently equipped and the home is clean and nicely decorated. It's an easy drive (maybe 15 minutes) Sunday River. The house is at the foot of Mt. Abrams ski area, which we found was a hidden gem. The westside lodge of Mt Abram is a quarter mile away, probably walkable if you wanted to.
